MANHATTAN: De Blasio Bans Cars From Central Park

AM New York reports:

A car ban in Central Park will go into effect in June, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Twitter Friday morning. “Central Park goes car free in June. 24/7, 365 days a year — because parks are for people, not cars,” he wrote. Motorists will not be allowed on the “loop drives” below 72nd Street, the Daily News and the Post reported. Currently, cars are already banned from the drives north of 72nd Street and are only permitted on the drives south of 72nd Street during certain daytime hours.

The ban does not affect the three cross-park “transverses” that mostly run below ground level. De Blasio will also order that horse carriages move from Central Park South and pick up passengers inside the park.
