“Many of the world’s great leaders request to come to Mar-a-Lago and Palm Beach. They like it. I like it. We’re comfortable. We have great relationships as you remember. It was originally built as the southern White House. It was called the southern White House. It was given to the United States and the Jimmy Carter decided it was too expensive for the United States.
“So they fortunately for me they gave it back and I bought it. Who would have it thought? It was a circuitous route, but now it is indeed the southern White House. And again, many, many people want to be here. Many of the leaders want to be here. They request specifically.” – Donald Trump, promoting his golf club yet again.

Trump isn’t even accurate in his history of Mar-a-Lago, which he claims was “originally built as the southern White House.”
It was originally built, in 1927, as a cereal heiress socialite’s house. She donated it to the US as a possible “winter White House” 46 years later. https://t.co/MkbOz9YJ3K

During an official presidential event, Trump slips in a little advertisement for Mar-a-Lago: “Many of the world’s great leaders request to come to Mar-a-Lago and Palm Beach. They like it. I like it. We’re comfortable…it was originally built as the southern White House…”

Mr Trump just used press conference with Japanese PM as commercial for Mar-a-Lago. Contrary to what President said it has never (until now) been used as Southern or Winter White House, tho that was Post family intention when given to government in 1973 (and sold off 1981).
