Former State Official Rewarded With Federal Judiciary Nomination After Refusing To Sue Trump University

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports:

President Donald Trump nominated David S. Morales to fill a federal judge vacancy for the Southern District of Texas in Corpus Christi. In 2016 Morales’ role in then-Attorney General Greg Abbott’s Office gained attention. Morales said in a statement that year that he decided not to pursue a $5.4 million lawsuit against Trump and Trump University without discussion with Abbott, now governor.

In joint statements, U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, both R-TX, praised Trump’s selection and touted Morales’ experience in both public service and private practice. Both called for a “swift” confirmation process.

A federal judge on Monday finalized a $25 million settlement between Trump and former students of the now-defunct Trump University. Former students said they were misled into enrolling in the university’s real estate seminars and given essentially worthless “educations.”
