North Carolina GOP Hired Cambridge Analytica In 2014

The Raleigh News & Observer reports:

North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis and the state’s Republican Party paid $345,000 to a data company that is now under scrutiny for its use of personal information about Facebook users. Cambridge Analytica also worked for the Donald Trump campaign, earning more than $5.9 million in 2016 according to Federal Election Commission filings, and for the “Brexit” campaign in the United Kingdom.

Two years earlier, the data company helped Tillis, a Republican, defeat Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan by 1.7 points. It was at the time the most expensive U.S. Senate race in history with total spending of more than $121 million. Cambridge Analytica put a page about Tillis’ race on its website, touting its work and listing the race as a case study. Wayne Goodwin, the chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party, said the reports about Cambridge Analytica make him “wonder whether North Carolina was used as a trial run in 2014.”

North Carolina GOP executive director Dallas Woodhouse claims he cannot locate their contract with Cambridge. Woodhouse, you may recall, earned national headlines days before the 2016 election when he dangled a set of handcuffs during an MSNBC appearance, declaring them to be Hillary Clinton’s “inauguration jewelry.”

    Of course they did.

    • Gustav2

When lies and fear is all you have in your campaign, you get the best people to peddle it for you.

      • Boreal

My guess is that it won’t just be the NC GOP. I think other state GOP groups did the same.

        • GayOldLady

I believe the entire GOP is in this up to their eyeballs. I believe that their leadership structure is compromised by the very tactics Cambridge Executives described during their video taped meeting with the guy from Sri Lanka. At some point these folks are going to have to face the music or go to Mueller and tell all.

Oh this just gets better and better. smh

Fake Lord knows what other nuggets of criminality will be discovered in the coming days/weeks. Another front has opened up in the war against the Colluder in Chief.

From the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers…. “The time you are living in is called the age of destruction,” they said, “the Kali Yuga. It is the lowest point. At this time evil comes
to the surface to be destroyed. This dark-age takes place just before the arrival of the in-coming Golden Age, so today you are watching out-of-balance Yang energy creating destruction all over your planet. This IS the Kali Yuga. You have heard and read about it and now it comes.

“Your country has just elected a moy to be its next president. Russia as well as Syria are already run by moys, while Africa is overrun by them; each moy creating havoc in his area of that continent.”

They hit it dead on……no pun intended.

Interesting, thanks. Just the other day I was thinking the way to describe this period of greed and decline is koyaanisqatsi.

How long until “taken out of context”?

You KNOW your eyes and ears are lying to you.

      • Rambie

They’ve said that yesterday about the video clips.

    • GayOldLady

It makes you wonder how they feel being on the other side of the equation. They’ve lost control of the message and now everyone who’s been held hostage by them should come forward before the truth of how Cambridge blackmailed them is exposed via investigative journalism.

  • DaddyRay

I hope Cambridge Analytica goes down and exposes all of the dirty deeds

  • ChrisMorley

Channel 4 News this evening (UK time) will dish the dirt on Cambridge Analytica and tRump election

Part three: Tuesday, March 20, 7pm GMT – on the company’s work in the United States

There will also be Part 4 and Part 5

  • netxtown

Why does this unraveling give me such great hope?

  • Halou

Kenya is not very happy either.

Also worth remembering, the 2017 election that Cambridge Analytica says was one they took part in on behalf of the incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta. The results of that election was nullified by the nation’s Electoral Commission because of corrupt practices on the part of Uhuru Kenyatta’s campaign.

    • ChrisMorley

That election was rerun in October and Uhuru Kenyatta won by 98% with less than 39% turnout.
The re-run was suspended in 25 constituencies which are all opposition
strongholds amid security fears. The election commission said those
results would not affect the final outcome so it could proceed with its
Mr Odinga boycotted the re-run because he said that no reforms had been
made to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after the Supreme Court found irregularities and illegalities in the original

      Nothing to see here. /s

  • Kevin Andrews

There is nothing that defines these pants-pissing cowards, liars and thieves better than the lengths they go, the gyrations they make, in destroying democracy for their own personal gains.
    These Christ-O-Fascist bastards are traitors.

  • GayOldLady

And I’m certain that Bob Mueller knows everything that Cambridge has done, everyone Cambridge has worked for, everyone Cambridge has bribed or compromised and every act of sabotage Cambridge has been involved in, initiated or instigated. What we heard from the Channel 4 yesterday is just a tease compared to what we’re going to find out.

    • ChrisMorley

But Channel 4 News / Guardian / Observer / NYT? investigative journalists are ahead of the pack, and Mueller doesn’t have the legal power to seize Cambridge Analytica’s servers & files from its UK HQ as UK Information Commissioner is now attempting:

      • GayOldLady

But what we do have are these great agencies, like the FBI, that work hand in glove with the Brits and I feel certain he knew this information well before we learned about it. I hope the UK government gets into those servers and records and tears this story wide open and quickly. We need this info NOW.

And thanks for the link Chris. I don’t follow UK news like I should.

        • ChrisMorley

Unfortunately trusting the UK Conservative government to get on top of this is not smart.
They are up to their necks in Cambridge Analytica (CA) shenanigans (2017 election, Brexit referendum, their homophobic hater allies, the Democratic Unionists in Northern Ireland – whose Westminster votes prop up the UK government).
I have limited faith too in the UK Information Commissioner being able to hold CA to account.
Our spooks (and ex spooks like Christopher Steele) are good but we don’t know that they do have their tentacles deeply probing CA. I hope so.

  • Charles Nelson

CA never really does the immoral/illegal activities they brag about. It just like bank robbers who are videotaped talking about their next heist…it’s just game playing…not real planning.

    • ChrisMorley

They were covertly recorded saying they deliberately distance themselves from those they commission to do their dirty work.
      So they’re still guilty.

    • JCF

      “Doncha think?”

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

I remember once hearing that workers for Monsanto hate how people give them a dirty look because of the company they work for. I hope the workers for this piss ass company get treated worse.

  • Nic Peterson

Of course the GOP used Cambridge. Why win honestly when you can cheat and mislead people?

  • JWC

Oh once it cracks everything falls out, get the popcorn

  • In 2014, did Cambridge Analytica have a US branch? If not, does it not violate election laws to hire a company who uses non-US employees for an election campaign?

  • JCF

I blocked out that handcuff thing. My mind can only process So Much fascist bullshit…

  • ColdCountry

The folks at CA are unethical, scum-sucking, bottom feeders. What does that make the people who knowingly hire them?
