Trump Rages Over Report That He’s Considering Hiring Lawyer That Defended Clinton During Impeachment

Here’s the report that spawned this morning’s freak out:

President Trump is in discussions with a veteran Washington lawyer who represented Bill Clinton during the impeachment process about joining the White House to help deal with the special counsel inquiry, according to four people familiar with the matter.

The lawyer, Emmet T. Flood, met with Mr. Trump in the Oval Office this past week to discuss the possibility, according to the people. No final decision has been made, according to two of the people. Should Mr. Flood come on board, the two people said, his main duties would be a day-to-day role helping the president navigate his dealings with the Justice Department.

Mr. Flood would not replace Ty Cobb, the White House lawyer who since the summer has taken the lead role in dealing with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III. But Mr. Cobb has told friends for weeks that he views his position as temporary and does not expect to remain in the job for much longer.

How could the orange moron go wrong with Jay Suckalot?

  • Mark

Isn’t he due for a heart attack or something from all his freak out tweets?? I can’t imagine his blood pressure spikes.

    • Cattleya1

You couldn’t kill him with a stick. It would take some unknown type of Kryptonite.

  • PickyPecker
  • Todd20036

Um, is he watching the same Congressional races we are? Because democrats are winning them.

    • safari

He’s not told about the non #Winning

      • Todd20036

A lot of fox viewers are going to wonder how they lost the House after all the “winning”.

        • Joe in PA

          🙂 Rigged don’t ya know?

    • Nic Peterson

      Alternative winning.

    • Randy Left Brooklyn

He is talking about the 5 House races since January of 2017, and he is correct. Remember the one in Georgia, and in Kansas, and the other 3? You know, the ones where democrats could not be bothered to vote, because writing a post on Facebook and bitching to friends is just as important and a valid alternative to voting.

He is ignoring the Senate race in Alabama.

      • JHunter
        • Randy Left Brooklyn

While technically correct, there was no GOP candidate in the final election, only two democrats because CA has a primary system where the top two vote -getters go to the final.

Where the final election was democrat vs. republican, the GOP has won 5 of the last 5 House elections.

  • greenmanTN

Of course he denies it. It’s the smartest action attributed to him in recent memory!

His supporters would be so disappointed they’d have to dig UNDER the barrel to find a replacement!

    • Reality.Bites

If this kills Trump’s desire to have him as a lawyer, it’s great news for Emmet T. Flood, who now neither has to do it, nor anger Trump.

I wonder who leaked it to the Times?

      • JackFknTwist

Yeah, he may have dogged a bullet.

    “…have shown conclusively…”

What is this conclusive proof of which you speak, Mr. Trump?

    • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

He didn’t write that. He doesn’t know that big word. Plus it’s spelled correctly. No exclamation points.

      • clay

Doesn’t end in a one word exclamation of what the reader is supposed to feel. Three tweets long. He didn’t write that.

      • RoFaWh

“conclusively”: four syllables; almost certainly a word Trump does not understand, cannot spell, and may be in a language he doesn’t know (viz, English). Trump speaks ly-ish.

  • another_steve

Why do you even need a legal team in the first place, you orange piece of toilet bowl slime. If you’re innocent, all you need to do is fully cooperate with Mueller and his team. Turn over all documents and answer all questions. The documents will set you free because they’ll prove your innocence…right?

Show us your tax returns, you criminal mobster posing as President of the United States.

    • ClevelandJim

“The documents will set you free because they’ll prove your innocence…right?” Um, yeahhhhhh. Hee-heee!

I can’t wait for Wednesday’s “I knew Rick Saccone was the wrong guy for the seat” from Trump.

(I’m assuming the election is Tuesday. If not, please mentally adjust my post accordingly)

      • stuckinthewoods

Right. Saccone’s loss wouldn’t have anything to do with him. Trump’s speech at that rally was so much about himself I was surprised Trump didn’t suggest voters write-in his own name.

    • clay

Even at the PA rally, Trump gouged the guy, saying he should have been winning easily.

  • Bambino

The way to read the news these days is when the bone spur cadet bitch and moan about fake news, there are very likely true.
    1. He is not happy with his lawyers. Will likely firing them soon.
    2. Collusion with Russia is 100% accurate.
    3. Has negative impact on Republicans winning any race.

    • blackstar

      2. no collusion. conspiracy yes.

Yeah, cuz his picks are SO experienced and knowledgeable….

  • marshlc

It’s a little amazing how bad he is at this.

This is not a story that very many people would have paid any attention to, and that even fewer people would have cared about. No matter where they stand on Trump, the vast majority of Americans are not keeping track of who exactly his lawyers are. Even places that get really granular would have a little “Hmm, what does this signal?” and then drop it.

But now he’s made it a thing. He’s limited his options, as if he now hires the guy there will be stories about this tweet. And he’s brought the issue of his legal troubles front and centre again, when who knows, maybe there could have been a day when people were talking about something else.

How in the hell do you spend a lifetime as a person out and about in the world, and not learn how to keep your mouth shut?

    • Wisterley

      Because he’s bonkers.

    • Rambie

If they were talking about something else, they wouldn’t be talking about him.

      • ClevelandJim

Bingo. “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.”

    • ClevelandJim

It’s just withering how lacking in judgement and maturity he is.

    • RoFaWh

As Keith Olbermann put it, Trump lives inside a self-constructed cocoon. It used to keep “bad news” at bay, but with 24/7 interest in Trump’s activities, and the bright glare of publicity, his cocoon has become moth-eaten and Trump can’t handle the bad news pouring in through the holes.

What kind of legitimacy can a government lay claim to when it REFUSES to protect the country’s elections from a hostile foreign power? NONE. And what kind of society and opposition party and FREE press fail to make a MAJOR issue of a government’s refusal to uphold the Constitution they have SWORN to defend?! Trump and the GOP are violating their oaths of office by refusing to do everything they can to protect the elections!! They are doing next to NOTHING.

And, while we’re at it, what kind of FREE press treats as insignificant, as nothing but a “breaking of norms,” the FACT that the POTUS is a proven and relentless pathological LIAR, slanderer, and racist hatemonger, using his office to deliberately spread discord among the people of this country and to attack the tenets and institutions of democracy?!

    • clay

It’s as if they’re playing the pronoun game, or the reporter forgot to ask WHY Cobb views the position as temporary.

      • DumbHairyApe

As much as I detest the lot of them, I do want to play with Cobb’s moustache.

        • RoFaWh

We’re going to set up a self-help group for you and Alternate Steve, to discuss your unhealthy obsessions with nipples and moustaches.

          • DumbHairyApe

Thank you. I appreciate your concern.

  • ClevelandJim

Did Faux News tell him the story said he was “unhappy with” his legal team? Cause I missed that sentence in the NYT article quoted by Joe…

  • Stogiebear

“I backed and campaigned for all of the winners.”

Is that what they call rounds of golf at Mar-a-Shithole now?

    • RoFaWh

It’s what is technically known as self-aggrandizement., though instead of making him look more important, it just makes him look sillier and sillier and ever more impotent to ward off the forces aimed at him.

  • lymis

Has to lie about the reports about his lies.

They didn’t say he was unhappy with the team. They said he met with another lawyer. Since none of his current lawyers have any experience in all this, it would make sense for him to do so.

  • TrollopeReader

5- 0 …. Alabama, baby! and 39 flipped seats in other races … to 4 on the R side ….

  • SilasMarner

He keeps calling the NY Times and CNN, and MSNBC “failing” and yet they are still there to point out his idiocy and lies. LOL, “failing” dRump

  • DumbHairyApe

He has a tendency to discredit anything that anyone says about him as “fake” and “lies” if it has even one point within it that is incorrect. So, he’s really focused on the “I’m not unhappy” part and throwing the entire story out because the important part to him, the “ME” part, is incorrect.

    • RoFaWh

Truth as pure as the newly fallen snow he calls “fake” and “lies” .

The man clearly really believes his own bullshit about being The Very Best at Everything and seemingly thinks no one else can see through his smokescreen of lies. deflections, and projections.

Notice that he never wonders just why the news reaching him in his tattered cocoon makes him so upset.

      Poor Donnie!

      • DumbHairyApe

You’re right. He will lie about little, or lie about much.

  • boobert

He better get paid up front !

    I can’t believe he’s planning ahead.

  • RoFaWh

When Trump freaks out like this, it’s because something he thought was a big secret has reached the newspapers. Something he knows makes puts him closer and closer to a penitentiary cell.

Just like his desperate efforts to derail Mueller’s Russia investigation. It a macabre sense, this freakout is rather amusing: Trump so lacks self-awareness (and, for that matter, other-awareness) that he evidently does not realize his machinations, freakouts, etc merely confirm what everyone except cultists already knows: Trump is traitorous criminal.

    Or so I guess.
