Florida GOP Rep: Don’t Listen To Student Activists Because Adults Make The Laws, Not Children [VIDEO]

This rant from Tuesday is blowing up today.

Carbonated reports:

Florida State Rep. Elizabeth Porter is not a fan of young activists. The Republican lawmaker made it clear when she went on criticizing her colleagues who support students protesting against existing gun laws, stating it was an “adult’s” job to make policies.

“We’ve been told that we need to listen to the children and do what the children ask, are there any children on this floor? Are there any children making laws?” asked the enraged politician during a state house debate.

“Do we allow the children to tell us that we should pass a law that says ’no homework’? Or you finish high school at the age of 12 just because they want it so? No,” she continued. “The adults make the laws because we have the age, we has [sic] the wisdom, and we have the experience.”

“We has the wisdom!” – Rep. Elizabeth Porter.

  • motordog

Well, she can kiss all those votes goodbye in a few years. Hopefully the parents, extended families and older friends of all those kids send a powerful message to this shitbag in the very next election!

    • Joseph Miceli

Yeah, this asshole just gave herself a retirement date and she doesn’t even know it. Kids remember and these kids vote. Patronizing bitch.

      • Todd20036

And kids have parents who won’t vote for more guns in schools.

  • “Don’t Listen To Student Activists Because Adults Make The Laws, Not Children”
Heehee. Today, maybe. Let’s see about tomorrow.

SOME RARE GOOD NEWS HERE ON JMG!!!

The sun did NOT explode within the last eight minutes! That’s how long it takes the light from the sun to reach our eyes.

If it had exploded, we’d all be in the dark now.

    • zhera

      *looks out the window*

      Umm, Steve… It’s dark here.

      • another_steve

Here in Central Maryland it’s only partly cloudy.

        Fear not.

    • kanehau

I think you meant “if the sun winked out”.

If it exploded… it would be getting brighter and bigger.

      • another_steve

        Good point.

First there will be a terrible heat, a terrible light, and the melting of our skin.

Then the cold and the darkness.

        • kanehau

          Well… no.

First indication would be a huge increase in the brightness of the sun. It would also appear to grow rapidly.

However, any mass ejection would move at sub-light speeds so could take many minutes to hours to hit.

But… an ‘exploding’ sun would be a sun going nova – which means its eventual radius would put Earth in its outer atmosphere.

So yes… there would be the melting – of just about everything, and a good deal of roasting of just about everything.

But no cold nor darkness, as eventually the sun will expand even further – meaning the entire earth will become a component of the sun.

          • another_steve

            Thanks for the clarification.

Bottom line: Never ever pass up on the opportunity to have a well-prepared Beefeater martini, three olives on a stick.

            Never do that.

        • zhera

It’s a good thing we don’t believe in science, then! That ‘sun expanding’ nonsense is completely unbiblical and satanic.

  • Judas Peckerwood

    Wow, what a scumbag.

    • another_steve

Please do not debase scumbags by comparing them to her.

Back in the day (when I was vital and capable of erections on demand), I used condoms.

      Condoms were my friend.

      Speaking of dirty fossils….

    • motordog

He’s old, that’s exactly the problem! Not to be all ageist up in here (I’m no spring chicken myself), but on one level all these ‘fossil politicians’ know they have a good decade or two left in them tops, then it’s off to White Jebus Heben!. They’ll never really have to suffer the long term effects of the decisions they’re making now. Since they’re all on the sociopath scale, they don’t even care about their own kids, grandkids, etc. As long as they get to fart through silk for a few more years.

    • thatotherjean

      That would be “No,” then.

    • ColdCountry

Oh, ffs. Is there no bottom to this pit of stupid we seem to have stumbled into?

      • prixator

No. I’m afraid you dove into it. Most of what is on display now was predictable well before the 2016 election, and still…

(ETA: Not “you” personally, but the country.)

Don’t ALL constituents have a voice? Voters need to make sure they are represented on election day.

    • Lizard

These are high school students. Odds are Porter doesn’t consider them constituents because they can’t vote for her.

The fact that they will be able to vote, and soon, apparently does not occur to her.

  • Ray Page

Those children are our future and they will vote pompous NRA whores out of office.

  • JoeMyGod

The rant is blowing up today because of the above tweet from student activist Emma Gonzalez, who now has 1.2 million Twitter followers.

    Emma DOES has the wisdom.

    • Devon Rodriguez
      • zhera

Since today is today, and Emma’s a woman…

        Awomen!

      • perversatile

Cheers to Elizabeth Porter’s absolute lack of foresight… I can only imagine the non-stop horror of her dotage when she finds herself left in the care of the generation she is currently so eager to dismiss.

        • HozillaSmallpox

Yes and these teens won’t forget. Hopefully these monsters will continue to drag themselves down until they are alone with no place to turn. Karma!

          • Steven Jaeger

I don’t know about that my experience with Millennials is if it’s not in front of their face they don’t remember it

          • Nowhereman

This generation are not the “millennials.” They are known as Generation Z and so far it looks like they comprehend and remember events very well, and are keen to take action on it.

          • Kissmagrits

Moreover, Generation Z doesn’t seem as likely to lie to your face while hijacking your future.

          • Lizard

That’s an untrue stereotype of Millennials anyway.

        • 2guysnamedjoe

I have no doubt that the young people she denigrates today will become the competent, caring professionals who will treat her compassionately in her dotage. Those kids strike me that way.

          • perversatile

I believe it’s entirely possible for an emotionally healthy, capable individual to operate from a place of kindness and compassion and still possess a thirst for vengeance.

    • Sometimes when you make sense, people listen. 1.2 million! I’m one of them.

  • “Are there any children on this floor?” No, they are lying dead on other floors.

    • KarenAtFOH

No, but a spoiled brat has the microphone.

    • mickey

Best response is yes. Spoiled rotten children who refuse to do the peoples business because special interests have bought them all

  • Max_1

The adults in the room have lost it. They think arming people who are no-fly list because they are on a terrorist watch list is a good idea. They argue that we should not arm people with mental health issues but yet they won’t pass legislation barring such ownership. They think 18 is too young to drink but yet they’ll put a semi-automatic in an 18 year olds hands and teach him how to kill with it to defend the nation. The adults in the room are the ones that are lost

    • David Walker

“They argue that we should not arm people with mental health issues but yet they won’t pass legislation barring such ownership.”
Actually, the honorable federal congress critters created and passed a law that does exactly that…arm more mentally ill people…and president shithole signed it.

      • TrollopeReader

did anyone (including NRA) challenge the ban in the courts? it certainly didn’t get to the US Supremes.

  • evanedwards

The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.

  • Tread

I seriously can’t with these fuckers. Truly and utterly reprehensible “people” who don’t deserve to breath the same air we do.

  • FAEN

Just you wait lady. Just you wait. These kids aren’t letting go and they will win.

  • geoffalnutt

Lose the flowery yellow hat and people would take you more seriously.

  • Rex

Hey, sweetie, when homework starts KILLING students you might have a point, until then, sit down and STFU.

    • Joseph Miceli

I’d like to see this NRA whore’s face when someone calls her “sweetie.” That alone would be worth the price of admission!

  • UiscePreston

Oh, this dumb wh0re. Talk about false equivalencies. Homework vs. getting the living sh!t shot out of you at school because these so-called “adults” have failed to protect them. And if her stupid khrunnt @ss wants to talk experience: how about the experience of going to class only to duck-and-cover as bullets fricking fly. These kids already have more combat experience than most of the sorry [email protected] with moronic opinions still bought and paid for by the NRA. This imbecilic b!tch can eff off away with her antiquated beliefs.

  • HZ81

Really adult of her to come for a bunch of kids

  • Max_1

Florida state representative Elizabeth Porter needs to explain to the public why guns are not allowed on the house floor. She needs to explain why the Capitol building is a gun-free zone. She needs to explain why her constituents cannot carry a gun into her state representative office. And then she needs to explain why she isn’t working to undo all of that because after all according to her guns save lives.

  • JoeMyGod

In September about eight million teens will be old enough to vote for the first time, counting the ones who turned 18 last year when there were no national elections.

    • Stogiebear

And if all of them register and go vote, on average that would be 160,000 per state extra. These new young voters need to be encouraged to exercise that privilege on behalf of the entire nation!

  • JWC

Hey bitch just remember that when they vote your ass out of office

  • No More GOP.

Adults make the laws… and it shows. Y’all have been doing *such* a stellar job of it. And these “children” are just months away from being adult enough to be in miliary service. These “children” have been through a horror you seem to be unable to imagine. Get over yourselves. Seriously.

  • Max_1

Welcome to International women’s day… Where we recognize the womb is not constitutionally protected with an amendment but a steel object designed to kill and take human life is.

Children who will be voting adults shortly.

  • Devon Rodriguez

But children can soon vote and you will be OUT!!!

  • Cuberly Deux

I’ve been wondering if she’d have issued a “clarification” or a non-apology Nope, so far nothing.

She’s so tone-deaf reprehensible she doesn’t even have the glimmer of awareness to pretend to have made a mistake.

        • Joe in PA

          I just found it…she gets an “A”. Wow…what a surprise.

          • greenmanTN

I wonder what that translates to in dollars?

          • Joe in PA

Yeah, I can’t find that info specifically…when you go to Votesmart.org (book mark it now!) there is a ton of info. Very searchable etc. But it lists only the “top contributors” and NRA is not there. However, nothing to stop the NRA from funding tons of ads on there own. 🙁

    • David Walker

Cuz them demo-rats’ll steel are gunz an’ put us all in jail. Ah nose that for a fack. Alex Jones told me, and yuh cain’t lie on television. An’ sombody sed it was on the innernet, an’ if’n its on the innernet, its gotta be true, to.

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

So along with dispensing with all their devotion to morality, Republicans are now dispensing with, “What about the children?”.

  • Harveyrabbit

“Are there any children making laws?”

Not yet but there are plenty of lawmakers currently acting like children.

    • Gianni

In this case, it depends how you interpret ‘children’.

    • zhera

Somebody should ask her: “Are there any fetus making laws? No? but you’ll fight for them!”

  • These fuckers. “How dare children not be willing to die so ammosexuals can own military-grade weaponry in unlimited quantities!”

An overwhelming majority of Americans want universal background checks for all firearms purchases and transfers. And for firearms to be kept out of the hands of the mentally unstable and violent criminals. And for assault weapons to be banned again.

Where the fuck is the ‘wisdom’ behind refusing to do these things?

Aside: I have no doubt this woman also claims to be ‘pro-life.’

  • Tomcat

They must have missed the part in their bible that says and a child will lead them.

  • MonochromeMouse

Does she not realize that a large percentage of those “children” are going to be 18 in time for the midterms, and most of them will be over 18 by 2020. She just guaranteed she will be voted out of office very soon.

    • Gigi

I hope whoever you’re waiting for is okay.

Thanks, a whole day of test in prep for him to have a newheart valve. Hopefully they don’t show me an 8×10 glossy of his sphincter like they did when I drove my the elderly neighbor lady in for her colonoscopy. Both her and I tried to tell them I was just the neighbor. 🙂

        • Todd20036

So it’s NOT good form to show my colonoscopy results to my coworkers?
          The more you know…

          • Jon Doh

My husband is fine, this is my ex. I have asked them to only use anesthetics if legally required. He never should have pissed me off and then given me power of attorney. 🙂

The GOP: where if you can’t give them money, they don’t give a fuck if you get shot and killed in school.

Way to go belittling the experience of these kids. Somebody slaughtered 17 of them while the others hid in fear of their lives, and might I add that it happened thanks to the ‘wise’ and ‘experienced’ adults.
This isn’t them petitioning for a “no homework” law!

Also, many of these kids will be voters in 2020 and this bimbo will be demanding, not asking for their votes as if she is entitled to receive them and as if the office is her personal property not a civic duty.

It may be useful fodder for opposition ads. “This is a Republican. So-and-so wants your vote, and he is a Republican. On Nov. 6, put so-and-so where the Florida sun don’t shine.”

    • TK

Glad to hear she’ll be outta there.

  • TK

Hey Rep Dumbshit – first, stuff your childish immature opinions up your NRA owned ass. Second – a large number of these “children” will be voting in November and will hopefully vote your adult ass out of office. Just another heartless, brainless GOP piece of political garbage.

  • -M-

Adults make the laws and those kids along with many other citizens are protesting your deliberate failure to make good laws regarding the availability of firearms Ms Porter. Duh!

    • GanymedeRenard

Exactly. And those kids happen to be the receiving end of some evil lawmaking. Once aware of this, they have every right to be heard.

  • kaydenpat

I hope Dems focus on challenging her. She needs to be out of office.

  • D. J.

This dipshit State Rep. is on three education committees. She needs to go back to school. She “lives” in Lake City while her husband “lives” in Daytona Beach. Are they receiving two homestead exemptions?

  • rcdcr

    We HAS the wisdom? Seriously?????

  • The_Wretched

I like Emma’s tweet the most.

Right, the problem here is that the chattels spoke; said the conservative woman….

  • Pete Wascher

i wish there were more ADULTS in congress

  • Gerry Fisher

Yeah, don’t listen to those kids. They’re only social-media and politically adept enough to have your ass out on the streets after the next election.

    • Gil

      never to return

  • Pickwick2

Those children are going to be voters sooner than you think. Enjoy your seat while you still have it.

  • JaniceInToronto

100% pure unadulterated asshole. It’s getting worse, not better.

    • Mike_in_the_Tundra

It’s probably just staying the same. It’s just that this asshole and those like her feel feel they don’t need to continue hiding.

      (Typed while in 4:20 haze)

  • GanymedeRenard

These children are smarter and with a more mature mentality than you, ma’am. What you said is just repugnant.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

    What a stupid stupid woman.

  • misterjack

    Sic ‘er, children!

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

She HAS to be related to Janet.

  • Mickey Bitsko

The rights of inanimate objects, in this case guns, trump those of human beings, in this case (and hundreds of other cases) children.

    Gotcha.

  • fuzzybits

    Wisdom? Bitch please.

  • Renfield

    Just another dumb republican.

  • Dom Saunders

Wow, she’s like…transparently evil. These kids are survivors of a mass shooting and reasonably don’t want to have to go through that again, and she has the gall to condescend to them as if they’re only just kids. Fuck her and everyone in that room.

  • Renfield

A quote from this dumb bitch: “we have the age, we has the experience and we have the wisdom.” But not education.

    • Dom Saunders

She doesn’t even have the experience, really. She doesn’t know what these kids went through so of course she’s ignorant as fuck on the matter. It isn’t about just making laws, it’s about saving lives and she basically said she couldn’t give a damn.

    • I think the “wisdom” part is open to dispute.

  • Tor

Those stupid little kids will be able to vote her out in 2-4 years, or 6 years, but the chances increase as more young people come of voting age.

  • netxtown

I bet she just pissed off a whole bunch of mommy’s and daddy’s, grandma’s and grandpa’s….not to mention every high school kid across the country.

Don’t quit kids. You have the voice! You have the right! And you have it right!
    DO what they won’t do.
Make our schools SAFE from sea to shining sea.

  • Ninja0980

    What a *(&$

  • I seem to recall reading in a book somewhere– its name escapes me — that people who bring harm to children need to be flung into the depths of the sea with millstones tied around their necks.

  • Friday

She’s claiming the Republicans are somehow being the ‘adults in the room’ about anyone putting a slight curb on their deadly toys?

  • ted-

This woman needs to suffer a heart-attack or something.

  • Canadian Observer

Would it be callous to point out that Rep. Porter is significantly closer to the age where senility, in it various forms, displays itself than the children she is bad-mouthing?

  • Nowhereman

Rep. Porter is a bright shining example of why the “children” need to take this issue on. And she might want to consider that about 20% of these “children” are or will be eligible to vote this fall.

  • anne marie in philly

but the children WILL BE voters soon…and don’t think for one second they won’t remember this bitch! FUCK YOU, PORTER!

  • justme

So in Fla… If you don’t have the $$

    We ain’t listening,,,

  • Frank McCormick

At first glance I imagined the chair back and the floral arrangement behind her as her hat.

  • HozillaSmallpox

“And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
    Are immune to your consultations
They’re quite aware of what they’re going through” – David Bowie

  • Wynter Marie Starr

If this boob had done HER homework, several things would have been made clear. #1 Most homework has been shown to be harmful to children, especially if it isn’t project based. And, #2, these “children” will be eligible to vote in a few short years. Rather than antagonizing and putting them down, perhaps she should listen to those that are literally on the front lines of gun violence.

  • Steve Smith

Its obviously one of those evenings when you just want to repeatedly slap someone around the head. So goodnight one and all. I recommend mass protest, with maybe just a little well-justified violence against selected individuals for good measure. Meanwhile, goodnight all as I can’t stand to read any more.

  • Charles Nelson

“Do we let voters from the left tell us what to do? We need some method to inhibit their voting…oh, I got it…we re-arrange voting districts. Oh…We already do…then let’s raise the voting age to 65!”

  • Chris Baker

They are not children. They are victims of a horrible attack. They are witnesses of a terrorist attack. They have first-hand knowledge.

  • Bryan

I’m…I’ve… I have nothing to say that isn’t just a string of expletives and increasingly complex means of passive-aggressively wishing death upon her. So I’m just going to go pray to the mighty Cluebat in the sky that it sends acolyte Lucille to give this bitch a fucking clue.

Do you see many Republicans in the houses of California’s government? Do you know why that is? Because we don’t let Republicans like you make the policy. We realized you for the brainless, moneyed sociopaths you really are. We paid attention in school and saw the signs across history and the kids of today are the adults of tomorrow. We don’t stop remembering what we thought, or feeling what we felt, because we turn the magic age of 18. The collective children here now and who’ve come of age in the 90s and new-aughts have seen this crap happen again and again and again while you fuckers did fuck-all to fix it except pay grinning lip service to the bloody and broken bodies. Then you promised to fix it and went off to a luncheon held by the people who caused it. We’ve seen it and let me tell you something you filthy dried up skag – WE. ARE. FUCKING. PISSED. You should RUN AWAY while you still have time you dusty bitch because MY generation is coming and our CHILDREN are coming and we’re not stopping until your precious NRA are convicted terrorists with their heads mounted on pikes. It’s time to set fire to the NRA and all their supporters and burn it all the fuck down.

  • wds

And let us all send “thoughts and prayers” for the demise of her political career … SMH

  • Thornton

In the above video, Ms. Porter asked how many children are in the room. As far as I am concerned, the room is full of people who ACT like children….NOT adults. I hope the kids remember this 8ITCH when they reach voting age.

  • Ann Kah

Give that speech the next time somebody shoots up your workplace, OK?

  • Jon Doh

    Home schooled, right?
