US Women’s Hockey Takes Gold Against Canada

ABC News reports:

The U.S. women’s hockey team finally returned to the top of the Olympic podium with a dramatic, heart-stopping display of hockey against rival Canada. The USA won in a nail-biting shootout — 20 years after they last won gold in 1998 when women’s hockey made its debut as an Olympic sport.

The U.S. broke Canada’s streak of four straight Olympic gold medals in women’s hockey. The U.S. players celebrated on the ice, draped in the American flag, as they gained a measure of redemption for their heartbreaking overtime loss four years ago.

Congratulations to the Women’s US Hockey Team

    • Todd20036

That wasn’t a typo, was it?

      • Acronym Jim

I didn’t realize the hokey-pokey was an Olympic sport. WHY DIDN’T ANYBODY TELL ME THE HOKEY-POKEY IS AN OLYMPIC SPORT?!!!

        I coulda’ been a contender.

        • Canadian Observer

You do realize the correct name of the game is “skatey punchy” don’t you?

          • kcken

Right, I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out…

      • DaddyRay

        Omg yes it was

I would watch ALL the hockey with Leslie Jones.

      “best mothafuckin’ goldie”

  • Rex

And they did it without a quad. Whatever that is. I guess it’s important in skating or something.

  • LeeCMH

The top two teams USA and Canada. Yes!

    Sore Loser…

Nope, not interested in silver— Pete Blackburn (@PeteBlackburn) February 22, 2018

      WOW petty and disrespectful behavior

    • gaycuckhubby

I’m okay with this. The us-canada Rivalry in women’s hockey is unmatched in all of sports. It wasn’t meant to be disrespectful it’s just so much disappointment in herself after working for all these years for one game.
I don’t think anyone on the US team took offense to it. We were there four years ago.

      • joeyj1220

Even if its disappointment in herself, it comes off as bratty behavior we see in toddlers when they don’t win and have a meltdown. Too many young people today have this behavior excused (or see it in the President of the US and think its okay)

        • gaycuckhubby

          But Trudeau is her guy!

          • joeyj1220

            There’s that… 😉

I suspect today she’s mortified. Emotions run high. That’s sport too.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Many Canadians are furious this morning for her doing this. Believe me, she’s being told in no uncertain terms.

      • Christopher Smith

One would hope the CUNextTuesday is told for a very long time to come. If you read the Twitter comments, many Canadians are supporting her. LOL

        • jawnbc

Anytime anyone does something impulsive and stoppd Twitter will run the gamut from insane to hilarious to poignant to lame. But I suspect few of those commenters lowered themselves to using the c-word, you fucking neanderthal.

          • Christopher Smith

Your elevated moral status is apparent just from your lovely language, not to mention your astounding originality of invective. Aside from not being able to spell ‘stupid,’ you have all of the maturity of the spoiled little twit who just didn’t think an Olympic silver medal was good enough for HER. You positively deserve each other!

  • gaycuckhubby

Ahhhh!!!!! I can’t believe you posted about this, Joe!
I stayed up till 3 a.m. to watch it, and had to get up two and a half hours later to get to work. I’m still excited about it, it has been a long time coming.

Trump’s In-Laws Probably Got Green Cards Through Chain-Migration Category He Wants To End

President Donald Trump’s in-laws likely obtained legal, permanent U.S. residence through a visa category that would be eliminated if the president’s chain-migration termination proposal were passed into law.

First Lady Melania Trump’s parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, are green-card holders are on the verge of obtaining U.S. citizenship, according to their family lawyer. They’ve not publicly disclosed their U.S.-immigration story, but it’s likely their daughter sponsored them for immigrant visas, according to the Washington Post (citing immigration-law experts and “people familiar with their status”).

      A couple of Germans, a Swede and a Finn, I believe. 🙂

  • gaycuckhubby

These women are amazing! In their offseason, while getting ready for these games they successfully negotiated a new contract to bring them more in line with equal pay with the men’s team. Most of them have to have other jobs to support their Sports. But there is a new professional women’s league that is still in it’s infancy… It’s the NWHL. And they have the first openly trans professional team athlete in their midst. His name is Harrison Brown and he’s pretty awesome.
If you have a chance to go watch them play you really should. They’re fantastic

    • jawnbc

And the Canadian women backed them 10000% The US and Canadian gals have played with (university; the women’s pro leagues) and against each other for a long time. It makes for a very interesting dynamic on the ice.

      • gaycuckhubby

I agree. It’s such a great thing to see. And I love the expansion of the cwhl

  • gaycuckhubby

I hope they get a ticker-tape parade in New York City just like the women’s soccer team did when they won the World Cup. This is a very big deal in the hockey world.

    • JCF

And after an even longer drought!

  • MBear

Probably doping. Murrikkkans are cheaters. Look at ar their gubmint! /s

      do you needs a hug?

  • gaycuckhubby

Meanwhile, the US Mens team lost to Slovenia. LOL

    • JCF

Hmm, do you think the Slovenian team could have had a mole in high places? ;-/

  • Gregory B

Congratulations to the USA and CDN Women’s hockey teams! Well done USA!

  • GayOldLady

    Finally, something to cheer about!

  • Phil2u

You Go, Girls! Proud of you!

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

It was a great game, though I do confess it didn’t end well. A shootout is really not a good way to end a game, it should have played out. That said, them’s the rules and the US won. Congratulations.

  • JWC

It was a very good game and we got silver

  • Ninja0980

  • Doesn’t anyone give a shit about how well the USA men’s curling team is doing?

  • jawnbc

It was a great game—heart and skill and tough. As a Canuck I should be gutted, but it’s never good for sport when one team wins gold four consecutive times. The bigger story in Pyeonchang has been how many of the other teams have improved.
