NRA Board Member Ted Nugent Promotes “Crisis Actor” Conspiracy Claims About Parkland Massacre Survivors

Media Matters reports:

National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent promoted the right-wing conspiracy theory that the Parkland school shooting survivors who are currently calling for gun regulation are “coached” actors.

In a February 20 Facebook post, less than a week after the shooting, Nugent shared a February 19 Natural News article claiming “these kids were coached to repeat scripted lines, just like actors reading lines for a movie production.”

The article claims that “It’s all scripted, in other words, to push a gun control narrative rooted in emotional reaction rather than constructive solutions” and includes the tags “false-flag” and “hoax.” The bulk of the article is a reprint of Lucian Wintrich’s post at The Gateway Pundit, which first started spreading the conspiracy theory.

Media Matters notes that Nugent “liked” the below comment left on his Facebook post. Nugent also promoted similar bullshit about the Sandy Hook and Las Vegas massacres.

  • kaydenpat

You don’t need crisis actors when you have teens witnessing shooting rampages. This is beyond idiotic. Trump should call them out for this.

    • Todd Allis

I don’t imagine Trump would call them out on anything.

      • David Walker

  • ErikDC

Nugent shouldn’t own guns. He is obviously mentally ill and has lost touch with reality.

    • SkokieGuy / May attempt snark

The brandishing he did on stage and his comment about Hillary should have been more than sufficient to confiscate his guns. I suspect ATF is full of right wing types and / or cooler heads that didn’t want to make him a martyr that the right would use to ‘prove’ that the left wants to grab guns.

      • Barry William Teske

Children, and the future potential they represented, are dead, dying, and will continue to die, because of the (affix othering label here) afraid of creating “martyrs”.

That is all the proof I need.
To me, it is proof enough the ‘war zone artillery’ rights, need to be stricken from your law books.

        • SkokieGuy / May attempt snark

I agree. Military weapons have no place in the hands of civilians.

    • David Walker

I wish he would stop shooting off his mouth, though. He is a disgusting, demented asshole, just what the NRA admires in its board members.

I still cling to that hope. The survivors of Sandy Hook will be voting soon too.

      • Tor

I think this time is different – at least I want it to be. This time the victims are young adults who can speak for themselves, not first-graders. I don’t think they are going to stop.

        • pch1013

The national attention span is too short. The bloated orange sack of pus will issue a few asinine tweets, and the media and the rest of us will simply say “Squirrel!” and move on to the next outrage.

          Nothing will ever change.

          • northern_neighbour

don’t be so without hope… not good for the psyche!

          • kelven

Things have changed. Mothers Demand Action was formed the day after Sandy Hook. They have not only thwarted attempts to loosen gun control legislation, they have managed to get laws on the books preventing men who are convicted of domestic abuse from having guns.

            https://momsdemandaction.org/our-victories/

These kids are going to be the sea change to a movement already underway.

          • GayOldLady

Things will change. It took this country a long time to become so fanatical over gun ownership that possessing weapons was more important than the lives of their neighbors, now it’s the lives of their children and that changes everything. I believe that new reality will become the impetus to turn this ship around.

          • jeffg166

These kids know how to work social media. I don’t think they are going away anytime soon. When the next shooting happens, as it will, they will be ready to pounce.

Some people feel hopeless about the ongoing perpetual carnage, but I agree that the 100th monkey can change the world. In this case start turning around the Titanic (i.e NRA’s death hold on American society).

These are young adults or nearly. They are fighting back and their parents will support their fight. They are starting marches and walk outs, and political action as well. The Clooneys and Oprah are kicking in support to help with some of the logistical costs.

AR-15 weapons in the hands of practically anyone in America is going to be a huge issue this November, all across the nation. And these kids have started leading the charge. Bravo for them. We need to support their efforts 100%. It is going to be like the #Metoo phenomenon, … it is way past time for the blow back to begin, and it has, imho.

      • Gerry Fisher

With Sandy Hook, they addressed the parents, mainly. Not the surviving children.

        • SkokieGuy / May attempt snark

I still hear the same playbook being used. “Staged” “Crisis Actors”, but yes, now they are aiming for at the children than the event itself. No matter what, its vile.

  • Ninja0980

When my Uncle Jim, a life long NRA member left a few years ago, he cited the NRA catering to folks like Ted Nugent and having them on the board as reasons why he was doing so.
As he rightfully pointed out, you can’t have folks like this on your board and then whine that people think the NRA and its members are a bunch of crazy, evil people.

  • CharlestonDave

Poster says Hogg is a meth addict and 26 and a paid actor? Nugent agrees?

Looks to this non-lawyer like another pending libel suit…deliberate, malicious publication of false information intended to defame Mr. Hogg. Might take a while, but he could well have his college tuition paid for by Nugent.

    • Kids should get lawyers and sue everyone of these bastards for college funding.

      • lymis

They might well be able to get legal services pro bono at this point.

    • Joe in PA

      • SkokieGuy / May attempt snark

Nationwide, I hope teachers join in. Their lives are threatened just as much as the kids. And to all the blue lives matter types, teachers routinely pay out of pocket for school supplies that the districts are too cheap to provide.

Teachers are demonized by the right and being screwed by the charter school movement. In Illinois they are likely to be screwed out of their retirement benefits. But they throw there bodies over the children to try and protect them.

When you enter the police academy you know you are entering a career that exposes you to risk (but not in the top 10 list of most dangerous occupations). When people became teachers, they simply thought they would be helping children learn.

My charity of choice is The Ali Forney Center. The total they have received from Amazon (because buyers are using Smile and Amazon donates) as of February, 2018 is $9,730.08.

I was thinking of you last night as I cobbled together 2 meters of red (635 nm) LED strips with one white strip (I can’t stand red and blue, the plants look black). It’s on a flexible mount so I can arch it over the top of a small pot as well. 🙂

        YAYAY!
Yeah, lighting can really affect the appearance of a plant.
Looks like you are germinating in 4pks?

Have you considered maybe using a small propagation tray or a plug tray? I use prop trays very similar to this for seeding. Advantage being isolated rows thus lowering chances of any soil-borne pathogens to move from seedling to seedling. Also, can do multiple small crops in one tray.

        • Treant

I haven’t thought about that! I do it this way–for right now anyway–because it serves its purpose from initial sprout right up to the day they’re planted in May. Some things get a little root bound, but surprisingly, not that much.

I can’t figure out the relative strength of that light as I can’t locate PAR numbers for the radiation spectrum, unfortunately. It draws 8 watts (a hair less), but…

          • PickyPecker

Should be sufficient, I would think. Between the addition of the wide-spectrum and your heating mats, you should see a marked difference this year in your seedlings.

Pro tip: This is the time of year that growers in northern climates like ours get their plugs delivered…and planted. The trays are most often discarded as recycle. There are many ‘mega-cell’ trays that I’m sure you could get some use out of (aka. pretty much the size of a 4pk cell, however there are usually 50 cells/tray). A nicely worded inquiry to your local greenhouse might just nab you some freebies.
Sterlize w/10% bleach solution in room temp water and you’re ready to go.

          • Jerry Kott

Thanks, just ordering my Snake and Bottle Gourds seeds. Had a rotten season last year. Hope for better results this years.

          • Treant

This is where I mention that I’m great friends with a grower named Steve and although the used flats aren’t free…I find paying for them rather enjoyable.

That would be untrue. I just buy ’em online and re-use until they start to leak. 🙂 I do disinfect them every May when I’m done with them for the year. They sit on the driveway with bleach solution for several hours in the blazing noonday sun. I figure the UV can’t hurt!

Rest assured, Spring is on the way! It got here to S FL at the end of January. It will make it up to the great North mid to late March.

    i just listened to Scaramuchi being interviewed on UK Channel 4 by John Snow;

Scaramuchi : “Your saying about more guns than peoplein the USA…..like you are criticizing my country, man…..
    this is an amazing country….’

The endless patter of how great the country is.
I’m afraid at this stage we all have heard that bull shit so much it has tripped over being amusing and landed in untreatable delusion.

The only thing that gives everyone hope is that the School children of Florida have the Bastille of the NRA/GOP bribers/bribee in their sights.
Let the students grow and organize into a coherent force for change…….just the same as 1968…….the students have civil rights to life and safety.
It is an indictment that kids have to have ‘active shooter drill’ in their classrooms.

Shame on a society which allows it.
Far from being “an amazing country, Scaramuchi, it is a shameful one the exploits its children’s safety

    • I decided a long time ago that for the most ardent believers in ‘American Exceptionalism,’ it is actually an excuse for never making anything better for its citizens. After all, if everything is the best it can possibly be, there’s no reason to reach higher, right?

For example, it’s like when they bark that America has the best healthcare system in the entire world. Except that by every rational, objective measure, it is far behind dozens of countries and falling further every year.

      • Tread

“After all, if everything is the best it can possibly be, there’s no reason to reach higher, right?”

There isn’t a reason to reach higher, if you’re male, white, and affluent.

        Re : Healthcare.
Yes, I have written about this before. Just at New Year my US BF was prescribed a steroid ointment for a skin problem. The pharmacy wanted $169 for a small tube. I brought him the same ointment four times the size for Euro 35.

I have seen the charges for hospital treatment, for general care, scans etc.
I tell you I am completely shocked by the costs…..they are multiples the cost of the same treatment in the UK and Ireland.
It is a complete rip-off in the States.

it’s such a pity you so not have a National Health system……..of all the countries in the world, the USA can afford it.

        • kiprian

What I want to know is this: when I was sick in Europe several years ago, I got codeine laced cough drops over the counter. They worked really well. My hub got food poisoning in the UK and was given laudanum. So why isn’t there an opioid crisis in Europe?

      • JackFknTwist

France – the Health Care is wonderful.

      • Cattleya1

They don’t need to make anything better, because they are all going to heaven forever…

      • prixator

At the very top, like platinum-level care, it probably is the best in the world. Unfortunately, very, very few people can afford the insurance premiums for that level of care.

    • lymis

“”Your saying about more guns than peoplein the USA”

Yes, asshole, and the more guns people use on mass murders, the fewer people there will be.

      • JackFknTwist

Who are you calling asshole ?

      • JackFknTwist

        Are you drunk ?

      • JackFknTwist

Are you calling dead school children “mass murders (sic)” ?

      • JackFknTwist

Let’s be plain; you are a right wing tosser.

      • Dazzer

I’ve tried to find a clip of the Scaramuchi interview on Channel 4 News tonight. It’s not up yet.

You really need to hear it before you can respond to Jack’s comment.

I saw it on the news tonight and I tend to agree with Jack’s comment – although I wouldn’t express my view in his words.

The thing is, though, that this is a bit of a useless debate to have.

Unless you’ve see the Scaramuchi interview, it’s useless commenting on someone else’s view of it.

Much as I love you Jack – you are being a bit of a tosser. While you’re essentially correct, s/he’s not seen what you’re talking about and I can understand why lymis is saying what he/she is saying.

        • JackFknTwist

          I can’t.
He/she is just the usual sounding off the minute anyone criticises the USA; Scaramuchi did it with John Snow tonight.

Many people have told me in the USA to “go home” when they hear me criticise their gun madness/ their bribing of politicians/ the health care rip-of/ their gerrymandering of constituencies and so on.

It’s just a visceral reaction without any intelligent appreciation of the points being made.

And you say I’m a tosser for saying this.

Well that just about proves the point I am making.

          • Dazzer

Man, it is what it is. And I sympathise with what you’re saying. You’re not wrong.

But lymis hasn’t seen what you and I have seen.

Frustrating though it is, you cannot ascribe an emotional or passionate point of view to someone who hasn’t seen the same information that we have.

The only thing lymis has to respond to is your words – and lymis was responding to a perceived slight on his/her country. I saw the interview and I agree with your general point of view – but lymis only has the words you used to formulate a response.

          • JackFknTwist

I’m glad you saw that interview with John Snow; he’s a news man who I respect ‘bigly’.

I suppose that Scramuchi is not one to whom any intellectual depth could be attributed. And I recall he is notorious for running off at the mouth.

I was taking umbrage on John Snow’s behalf at the ignorance of Scaramuchi. I have encountered similar rudeness many times.
No matter how you dress up the to-and-fro of the exchange the fundamental truth of the substantive argument remains : the USA guns down school children through a Faustian bargain between the NRA, the bribers, and the GOP, the bribees.

No matter who is insulted or aggrieved, that single point must be repeated.

          • JackFknTwist

PS : Hmmmmm. the USA does have more guns than people…….Lymis was praising that absurdity.
            He remains a fool.

  • David Walker

Another person from my generation said, “When I was in the military, they gave me a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one.” That’s probably too much for Ted (or most on the right) to deal with, especially if they knew Leonard Matlovich’s story. The kids don’t know about Matlovich, probably, but they certainly are acting honorably, which is more than you can say about the NRA, its board members, and their hired gun legislators.

Funny, because Ted perfected his Mr Poopy Pants routine to stay out of the military.

  • Ginger Snap

I hope these lies being told of these students enrages them even more at our government and propels them to hold bigger, louder and productive protests.

  • David Walker

Fuck. I wonder if the crisis actor bullshit gets attention because the Parkland kids are articulate, speak well, know what they’re saying, and are determined to make a change, whereas the base has kids who mumble a lot, can hardly read or write, get their opinions from the pulpit and the family, and are afraid of us and need to make up reasons to hate us? I can’t imagine a parent who couldn’t be at least disturbed by the massacre last week, but I also can’t imagine the fucked up minds of people who throw their kids out of the house because the kids are gay.

    • greenmanTN

Republicans are the party of misspelled signs so I’m sure they’re baffled by kids speaking in complete sentences.

I was lucky. I came out to my dad when I was 17 and told him I’d heard of kids who’d been kicked out of the house for being gay and he said, “I’d rather cut off my own arm than reject you.” My parents for their time and place were quite liberal. One of my proudest moments was when my mother asked me to help her register to vote (which she hadn’t done for years) so she could vote for Obama.

That might be why I’m a little uppity. 😁

      • David Walker

Congratulations. Sounds like you raised your parents right.

        • greenmanTN

I was the late accidental child, and stubborn as hell. I don’t believe in astrology but look up Taurus personality traits and they nail me. The one time they tried that “you will sit here until you finish your dinner!” thing on me I sat there until midnight with my arms crossed and a pissy look on my face. My mother said, “If SOMEBODY hadn’t been too lazy to go to the drugstore we wouldn’t be dealing with this right now!”

They really should have named me Karma. 😁

Let’s help the kids. Cameron Kaskey has started a GoFundMe with a goal of $2-million to help with the expenses of putting together the March for our Lives group and the necessary permits for the March march on Washington. They’re at about $1,500,000 after two days. It looks like personal donations are ranging from $10 to $200. If you are able to donate, and I think it’s a good idea to show we’re on their side in a discussion that shouldn’t even be needed, the link is

Character assassination: it’s what Republicans do.

Nugent’s stupid. These people who claim Sandy Hook was a false flag are stupid. They live their lives regurgitating these lies. I find all the disinformation distasteful.
