Homocon Site Pushed Russian Troll Accounts

Media Matters reports:

On February 16, the Justice Department and special counsel Robert Mueller issued an indictment against 13 Russian nationals, along with the Russian entity the Internet Research Agency (IRA), charging them with defrauding the United States and interfering in the 2016 presidential election campaign. The indictment notes, according to CNN, “The defendants allegedly posed as US persons, created false US personas, and operated social media pages and groups designed to attract US audiences.”

In particular, the indictment says that “defendants and their co-conspirators also began to promote allegations of voter fraud by the Democratic Party through” those “fictitious” accounts. According to the indictment, one of those Twitter accounts, @TEN_GOP, had tweeted on November 2, 2016: “#VoterFraud by counting tens of thousands of ineligible mail in Hillary votes being reported in Broward County, Florida.”

That same day, The Gateway Pundit, a far-right, pro-Trump blog known for repeatedly pushing misinformation, published an article that prominently featured that tweet and hyped its allegation. Thanks to The Gateway Pundit’s article, @TEN_GOP’s tweet was indirectly shared on multiple conservative and pro-Trump Facebook groups (including at least one supposedly based in Florida), along with a Facebook page of a South Carolina talk radio station.

This is not the only instance in which The Gateway Pundit cited an IRA-linked account. The site also regularly cited another Russian account post-2016 election to support and defend President Donald Trump and criticize Democrats.

But my gawd I’ve never seen two such examples of unfit, unstylish, unappealing meh-blah with bad haircuts and ugly glasses. Just looking at them offends and bores my eyes at the same time.

they tried trolling left leaning sites, but their lies kept getting debunked.

Not entirely. They were able to stir up fights between Bernie’s support and Hillary’s, provoke Gay/Black/Muslim outrage to further incite conservative outrage, and encourage people to stay home or vote third party.

      • Robincho

That’s because left-leaners are way smart. Even the JMGers who were born yesterday have definitely been up all night…

What’s shocking viewed through contemporary eyes is how old-acting and dressing parents of young marrieds were portrayed (and I suppose mainly were in real life)

When you watch an early rerun of All in the Family with a contemporary Modern Family and realize Archie and Edith were in their mid 40s, same as Claire, Phil, Mitchell, Cameron and Gloria, it’s an indicator of how much things have changed.

This all comes down to the same thing: none of this internet babble that people are reading and “learning” from is news.

Someone, turns out to be a Russian agent but doesn’t have to be, sends a tweet claiming something happened. It’s completely made up. A website posts a story based in that tweet. Now we have a piece that can be sent around and reposted where dimwits will see it as news, too stupid to know the difference. No reporter fact checking, no editor worried about being wrong.

We can blame the Russians but they are just a symptom. It’s the stupid people. How many times did we here completely fake info couched as “well I read somewhere”?

I heard from a Bernie dimwit at a bar after he lost “I read they are bringing him back at the convention. He is going to be the nominee”. And all kinds of other crazy

It’s the dumb masses. This has happened in human history many times before!

    • ZRAinSWVA

Unfortunately, you’re right. All you have to do is read the comments on Faux, OANN, Breitbart, etc., and their willful, unthinking ,unquestioning stupidity is clearly evident.

And, no, of course we shouldn’t teach critical thinking skills in school, should we…

      • killreligion

It’s a big problem that affects all of society. In my state we had natural gas protests which simply keep people from switching from oil, hauled in on trucks, to cleaner gas.

If you use critical thinking skills you realize we can’t all have windmills on our roof but we can, immediately, stop heating with oil. But no, “all fossil fuel infrastructure must be stopped”

It’s nor just lack of education.
I have a phd chemist on my staff who wraps himself around the climate thing to come to the conclusion he wants: the climate is so complex how can we ever know we are changing it?

We have that great chart showing all the correlation: emissions, population, industrial activity, climate change. They lay right on top of each other

Scientists seek causation but they create their hypothesis from correlation. He refuses to see that because he doesn’t like what it means

    • JackNasty

Funny, I heard from several sycophantic Clintonistas that only Hillary “DOMA GIrl” Clinton could beat Trump.

I also heard Hillary was so qualified she didn’t have to campaign in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

      • killreligion

My comment is completely unrelated to the wrong assumption her win was inevitable-but you are right in saying that was an issue-she didn’t see what I’m saying, people don’t decide using verified facts.

I used an example that happened to be the duping of a Bernie supporter, but could have used a trump supporter example.

I agree the issue you cite was a factor but it’s completely different.

But let’s be clear about one thing: Bernie would have been a worse nominee. So it’s splitting hairs to keep comparing the two now that we know why trump won, which was my point
