Rick Gates Close To Plea Deal With Mueller

CNN reports:

Former Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates is finalizing a plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller’s office, indicating he’s poised to cooperate in the investigation, according to sources familiar with the case.

Gates has already spoken to Mueller’s team about his case and has been in plea negotiations for about a month. He’s had what criminal lawyers call a “Queen for a Day” interview, in which a defendant answers any questions from the prosecutors’ team, including about his own case and other potential criminal activity he witnessed.

Gates’ cooperation could be another building block for Mueller in a possible case against President Donald Trump or key members of his team.

Once a plea deal is in place, Gates would become the third known cooperator in Mueller’s sprawling probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. It would also increase the pressure to cooperate on Gates’ co-defendant Paul Manafort.

    • teeveedub

Among other things. Like, oh, I don’t know, maybe documentary evidence of his knowledge of and cooperation with Russian efforts to tamper with the U.S. election.

      For starters.

A Republican controlled Congress will take no action.

    • HanyBaal

That’s what the Colluder is counting on. Mueller will present an air-tight case and the Repugs will collectively shrug it off & continue dismantling the country.

      • Todd20036

But I don’t think Mueller is preparing a case for this congress. He’s preparing a case for the congress after 2018 elections.

If there really is a blue tsunami, there will be justice.

        • JCF

Well, there will be an impeachment, quite possibly. I hope people aren’t deluding themselves though, to think the Senate, w/ a 66 vote threshhold, will vote to remove Drumpf even IF the Dems retake the Senate.

More likely: Drumpf will resign and/or Mueller will find a way to indict him in Federal Court. [And/or an AG in a state court?]

          • The_Wretched

We just saw the Turtle rally a whopping 9 (of 54) votes for the negotiated bipartisan immigration bill in the Senate. That was a bill the Republicans could stand behind but they intentionally tanked it anyways.

I remember this show (but not the host). This show was a forerunner for Jerry Springer. The audience chose the queen by clapping for the sob story they liked best. And the prize always included a washing machine and a years detergent. I have thought several times that this would be a good show for TV to bring back. The younguns can get a feel for this show by searching Queen for a Day on YouTube. What would they give out today?

O/T the Second amendment ” a well regulated militia being necessary to secure the free state. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed Dec 15 1791 A few points: First ‘A MILITIA” was called by a local general or ranking officer and convened for a period of 90 days.Second “Well Regulated” I would take to mean under the direct and specified orders of said general or ranking officer. Third to”secure the free state” If the state was already free then this obligation would have been met.thereby the militia disbanded. Fourth, based on the conditions of the aforementioned stipulations if all these conditions were met and satisfied for the next 90 days as so stipulated then it would mean this amendment was duplicitous given that there was an armed army in place since 1775 As militias were supplanted eventually by some branch of the armed forces The second amendment would be innocuous except in incidences for hunting game and home security with your trusty flintlock musket . All communities today have police forces which render, in most parts of the world, home security redundant. One has to accept this , in the light that, when the constitution was originally written we had no electricity automobiles airplanes computers or a litany of things. The constitution has been altered to include these. If the constitution can be altered to include progress then it can also be altered for exclusion of non viable items like militias and muskets. This was all written in the late 1700 This is what it is subject to. Not one from Item A and one from B Again i offer this for your perusal

    • canoebum

A shorter version of “Well regulated” means that the militia is under the direction of professional officers who answered to a duly constituted civilian authority. We know that the militia of Colonial and Revolutionary times included primarily the upright, trustworthy citizens of the locality, those who could be trusted to do their duty as directed. Thieves, drunkards and the village idiots were excluded.

      • JWC

to me however its relevancy in today’s setting is redundant

    • The_Wretched

You’re entirely right. However, Scalia, the Scaly One, (still locked in a grave), struck the “Well Regulated Militia” out of the Constitution in Heller. He was an originalist.

So the fun part is the lawyer now representing Gates also represents Priebus and Bannon, the latter of whom spent two days (20 hours) this week speaking with Mueller’s team – while publicly refusing to answer any (Nunes-led) House committee questions not previously approved by li’l donnie.

Fun fact, a lawyer representing more than one client re: the same case is discouraged unless no conflict of interest exists between the clients – seems possible to me, then, that Reince and Steve are also working toward making deals with Mueller, or have already…

    • JWC

      Have they subpoenaed Bannon yet

      • AJayne

Not that I’ve read – the threat he currently faces from Congress is being held in contempt for refusing non-donnie-approved questions – tho that could become a moot point if word of his cooperation in the case comes out…

        • JWC

He Claims executive privilege the same as Don Jr both have been advised it does not apply

          • AJayne

I know what he has claimed to the committee, but that “claim” could be part of his (and his lawyer’s) strategy during plea negotiations – to take that route (with Mueller’s approval) – because once the deal is made, he’ll stop talking to anyone except those on Mueller’s team…
