BREAKING: Leader Of White Nationalist Militia Says Shooter Was Member, Took Part In Paramilitary Drills

The Associated Press reports:

The leader of a white nationalist militia says Florida school shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz was a member of his group and participated in paramilitary drills in Tallahassee.

Jordan Jereb told The Associated Press on Thursday that his group wants Florida to become its own white ethno-state. He said his group holds “spontaneous random demonstrations” and tries not to participate in the modern world.

Jereb said he didn’t know Cruz personally and that “he acted on his own behalf of what he just did and he’s solely responsible for what he just did.” He also said he had “trouble with a girl” and he believed the timing of the attack, carried out on Valentine’s Day, wasn’t a coincidence.

Should we start having a conversation about white nationalist groups being categorized as terrorist groups and treating them as such? People who have had membership in such groups should be automatically barred from owning or possessing firearms.

I’m pretty sure we put terrorists groups on the no guns background check list. We also have them on the ‘no fly’ list.

          • Chucktech

I’m afraid that until a “white supremacist group” engages in a bonafide act of “terrorism” (and adjudicated as such) that membership in such a group would be protected by the first amendment.

BTW, as you certainly are ruefully aware, being on the “No Fly list” apparently isn’t enough to keep you from purchasing a firearm.

    • Taylor Bixler

That someone with that last name would be in a white nationalist group is…puzzling.

      • Misutaa Roboto

Not as much as you’d think. In Orange County, CA one of the local leaders of a white nationalist skinhead group that does lots of anti-immigrant rallies is named Juan Cadavid (who uses the fake, but still Spanish-sounding name, Johnny Benitez), and was himself born in Colombia. Of course, there’s still a lot of infighting with the other white supremacists (many of them hate each other either because they aren’t the right kind of white, the right kind of Nazi, or because they are all pieces of shit who are hard to tolerate being around and have personal grievances).

Sadly, there really are plenty people with Latino backgrounds who would really love to be let into the white nationalist club (you also have Chicanismo, which espouses a whole ‘nother kind of racial nationalism, but frankly mostly serves as an effective bogeyman for white nationalist reactionaries).

“Asp caterpillars pose a seasonal health hazard. Intense, throbbing pain develops immediately or within five minutes of contact with the caterpillar. Stings on the arm may also result in pain in the armpit region. Erythematous (blood- colored) spots typically appear at the site of the sting. Other symptoms can include headaches, nausea, vomiting, intense abdominal distress, lymphadenopathy, lymphadenitis, and sometimes shock or respiratory stress. Pain usually subsides within an hour and spots disappear in a day or so; however, with a larger dose of the venom, it is not uncommon for the symptoms to last several days or longer.”

The democrat commie National Media realize that half of all U.S. citizens are low information dupes who will believe anything they are told and they look down upon these creatures as dumb animals and morons. They will put out disinformation just like this and a few days they will retract it and say they were wrong and that they are sorry. BUT THEY KNOW THAT THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE. Because the low IQ INFO moron only see’s the headl;ines and researches no further so they believe the original story that was an intentional lie from the beginning. And here is the truth : Jereb told the AP that he didn’t know Cruz personally and that Cruz “acted on his own behalf of what he just did and he’s solely responsible for what he just did.”But Tallahassee authorities told the Tallahassee Democrat that they’ve found no connections between Cruz and the militia so far.Lt. Grady Jordan of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office told the AP that deputies had arrested Jereb at least four times in the past four years and that they closely monitored the group’s members. He said his office has “very solid” information on ROF and found “no known ties that we have that can connect” Cruz to the militia. Not only that , but the shooters facebook page contained references to allah and islam and antifa and ISIS and how he admired the groups.

That’s good to hear. Those politicians need to understand that thoughts and prayers are useless in the context of gun violence.

Going way out on a very thin limb here but is it right to jump to a conclusion. the compartmentalize this as an terrorist because somebody claimed responsibility. That is reminiscent of the Salem witch trials. I am NOT defending this guy , he fucked up, he killed kids and he WILL pay for that. My question is, he is 18-19 obviously exhibited anti social behavior in school and probably received all the disciplines the school could mete out. Did anyone 2-3 year previous ever reach out to this kid to try to befriend, to help, to guide, or did they all judge him a misfit and let him fall through the cracks. As a lot of us on here are gay or are of other persuasions we have all felt times of loneliness ,rejection and have pulled out of it because of friends and social interaction . This Guy didn’t, spiraled down and killed people I do not offer this for argument I only offer it as insight

“Loner” doesn’t necessarily mean “nice.” Quiet, maybe. Maybe he was a douchebag so nobody wanted to be around him. We have a right to pick who we spend time with and who we reach out to.

I was a loner in high school, too. I managed not to murder anyone with an AR-15.

      • JWC

That is my point theses are all assumptions that we don’t know Yes he could have been a douche bag we don’t know .We all react to loneliness differently, some become actors, or develop a sense of humor or just endure some do not I am NOT trying to justify this guy I am just trying to understand where this whole shit show went off the rails Its to easy to write him off as a mentally challenged ethic kid with terrorist leanings. That’s just to GOP

        • Lizard

I’m not just writing him off as a mentally challenged kid. I’m saying it’s shitty to ponder that if only some of the people he murdered had been nicer to him, this wouldn’t have happened. That skirts too close to victim-blaming to me.

          • JWC

In mu statements I am not trying to skirt the blame and say it was all because he was misguided and misunderstood NO he Murdered 17 kids and you cannot deny that .. but why?

        • Randy Ellicott

I see what you are saying, you are trying to do a kind of “root Cause” analysis on how this came to happen, and that does need to happen, and i think we kind of already know that in a country with no comprehensive healthcare (particularly no mental health care), a general lack of support for the public education system, and amazingly lackluster gun laws these things will keep happening. Until we as a nation make taking care of our citizens a priority there will always be people thrown out in the cold who will come back to tear down the walls. Pondering what ifs doesn’t help though, if someone had just helped pick up his books when he was in elementary school maybe he wouldn’t have done this provides no way forward, looking at the unfortunately massive amount of date we have on mass shooters we can draw conclusions and find a logical way forward, well if we weren’t so resistant to science and logical policy making in this country.

          • JWC

I appreciate your insight as well . No picking up his books or other random acts of kindness may have done little to change events. but something was not there to bring us to yesterday . I do not accept that he woke up yesterday abd Said “Gee a great day to shoot people” Something lead up to that

A few school have the means and skilled councilors to have successful interventions. Until and unless the republicans stop tearing up the public school system, this sort of bad actor cannot be ‘redirected’ to better ways of dealing with the world. • JWC

And totally ignores the Elephant in the room amending the 2nd amendment The Sacred Cow in all of this because it forces a conflict with the NRA and in a GOP world that is Blasphemous

    • m_lp_ql_m

My own experience: I was a loner, gay, closeted. My anger and frustration was pushed down, repressed-I lashed out at myself instead of lashing out externally.

The difference is all in our culture: gay is something evil, being white is something good.

      • JWC

As I said It wasn’t meant as argument but as insight. I have no ideas what this guys social life may have been . If there is substance to the fact that he was an orphan of Hispanic background there may be something there He doesn’t get my sympathy per se but he does beg my understanding

      • JWC

Its tough this kid fucked . Circumstances that he was subject to but had no control over lead to this despicable tragedy

    • In my social circles, we’ve referred to this as “Geek Exclusion Syndrome,” (or Nerd Exclusion Syndrome) and it was used many, many times to prevent known bad-actors from being banned from our larger events.

Even when there were credible reports the person involved violently and/or sexually assaulted folks or destroyed people’s property, the reasoning was always, “Well, we’ve all experienced being excluded. We just need to try harder and make sure he understands the boundaries. And we need to warn women not to be alone with him.” It’s a noble sentiment, really, but sometimes it enables bad behavior to continue and usually some subset group ends up being victimized.

It never worked because the violator didn’t want to change, didn’t feel any pressure or need to change. No amount of social outreach did anything but convince them they didn’t need to change, because they’d never be excluded. “I have ‘friends’ and I get to go to all the parties and events, so why should I ever stop being a raging violent douchebag who can’t be trusted to be left alone with someone smaller or weaker or less armed than me?” is how it eventually goes.

Bigots and monsters usually choose to become that way. This cowardly terrorist mass-murderer decided he’d let racism and self-entitlement be his top guiding motives. Being nice to him wasn’t going to fix that, not when his starting position was he didn’t think non-whites should be allowed to exist in Florida.

Your sentiment is kind, truly, JWC, and clearly heartfelt. But sometimes someone needs to be rejected because of what they choose to represent, who they choose to be, and how they behave among us.

      • JWC

I appreciate your insight as well Becca But I have to say as a kid 13+ I suffered a growth spurt hitting 6’2″ in a few short months I became the oddity subject to comments and jibes. The proverbial knuckle draggier in Lilliput. What that did to me, and really its totally different for all, made me a total introvert, quiet not getting involved because I knew I would be rejected before I attempted It was in no manner way shape or form a fun life but I endured I did not kill anyone, if anything i developed a compassion for the underdog . I refuse to judge before I understand , something that i did not feel was afforded me when i needed it. High school kids, through their lack of understanding, the bully syndrome, can be cruel without knowing. This , however does not justify violent action and killing people

    • ECarpenter

His mental state wouldn’t have mattered if he couldn’t have gotten a gun.

      • JWC

my central thoughts here have been gun control Kids do not need nor should have access to this type of fire power. Who supplied it

    • e’ville_globeguy

I can offer this personal viewpoint. I was never exposed to guns as a child, and don’t think there were any in my home. Didn’t like violence at all. But I was the “new kid” in school 10 times (because of dad’s job relocations), and the “fat kid” and the “quiet, timid sissy kid”. I was tormented, bullied and physically assaulted throughout school and felt utterly helpless most of the time. Fear and rejection was an everyday thing for me while at school.

And I remember in the 6th and 7th grades, how I wished I could get my hands on a gun, as an equalizer. I shudder to think what might have happened if I had had access to one, and have no doubt there would be some dead bullies if I had.

      • JWC

I grew up in a family with guns 22’s 30 ought 6’s 12 gauge shot guns . My brother and I had BB Guns I have never been a fan of guns in the least nor did i ever feel the need for retaliation I just became a loner and introvert I was happy with myself and assumed it was their loss The point is a skids we hit the ‘Bully stage and we all handle it differently . Back then it was a rite of passage I suppose , we lived thru t and didn’t kill anyone Today kids have counselling and mass shootings

        • The_Wretched

          no.

Or we should care only so far that groups are represented fairly with the context about who they are. That means Liberty Council should be called a hate group even though they don’t like the label. the Koch bros shill groups should be called shill groups. Industry groups should be so labeled. Astroturf groups should be labeled industry groups. etc.

I also question the wisdom of, yet again, endlessly posting a terrorist’s picture and talking about his life. It’s not that we glamorize it (pretty much the opposite), but the attention encourages others.

      However, Joe’s definitely not a shill. 🙂

    • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

Shilling for …. ? I’m curious and honestly do not understanding your point.

      • The_Wretched

RWNJ doesn’t think the white supremacist group should have moral culpability for winding up a disturbed young man and his resulting shooting spree.

        • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

Amazing how easy it is to substitute “white supremacist group” with “GOP” and it still makes perfect sense

          • The_Wretched

I still think Bill O’Reily owes the citizens jail time for winding up the guy who killed George Tiller. And there’s similar blood on Hanity, Rush and Alex Jones.

It didn’t occur to you that the face of white nationalism could look so young and innocent? If you saw that photo last week would you think it would have “mass murderer” and “white nationalist” attached to it this week? The problem is deeply systemic.

She has her moments, but she’s way off-base here. Said dealer doesn’t care what you’re going to do with them and wouldn’t bother asking (although half a million weapons would be difficult to impossible to procure all at once for the average dealer, not to mention probably triggering a required reporting somewhere, with ATF if nothing else).

Every sensible gun dealer knows full well that you may have half a mega-AR15s, but the army’s got bazookas and nukes.

We are learning about his racist past from militia representatives.

I wonder if Florida cops were and are trying to keep the public from knowing this about a good ole boy.

True or not It would be VERY necessary for the GOP to demonize him in any manner to deflect from any dialogue of the NRA and GOP no action

Info like that would have been in the briefing for Scott and Trump. They failed to mention it as well.

    • With the (adoptive) surname Cruz, they were all hoping he was a Hispanic immigrant, preferably an undocumented Dreamer.

Australia confiscated 650,000 guns. Murders and suicides plummeted.

    https://www.vox.com/2015/8/27/9212725/australia-buyback

On April 28, 1996, a 28-year-old man with a troubled past named Martin Bryant walked into a cafe in Port Arthur, a tourist town on the island of Tasmania, and opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle. He killed 35 people and wounded another 28.

Australia’s prime minister at the time, John Howard, had taken office just six weeks earlier at the head of a center-right coalition. He quickly drew a very clear conclusion from the Port Arthur killing: Australia had too many guns, and they were too easy to get.

  • RJ Bone

    White Nationalist, huh?

I’d be excited, because in a good and just society, this would be a nail in the coffin of ammosexual, white supremacist, “Patriot” groups and we’d be hunting them all down to put a stop to it once and for all.

    Like the terrorists they are.

    BUT for those in office…

I just hope this stays in people’s minds when the time comes for action. A rallying cry, if you will.

He had violent fantasies, but he’s not the first or last teenager to dream of slaughtering his perceived tormentors. It’s fairly common. Movies have been made out of those fantasies, remember “Carrie”? But now kids can get the guns to carry out their fantasies, instead of eventually outgrowing them.

didn’t the Trump Administration recently divert funds from monitoring domestic white nationalist organizations to monitoring only foreign Islamic?
I’m not naive enough to think that that alone caused this or allowed this to happen. But I’m aware enough to understand that white supremacist are more emboldened in this country and now would be a perfect time to be monitoring extremist activities

  • BeaverTales

Color me surprised, domestic terrorists are as lethal as foreign ones but fly under the radar more often., even if they have a similar social media presence as Daesh..

But if you aren’t dark and scary looking, you can build up a small armory before anyone notices. it’s easier to be ignored until you finally commit the crime.

    • Because they want to form a militia to kill non-whites in the “inevitable” (according to them) revolution against “Da Liebrul Elite!”.

    • coram nobis

The “militias” have been cropping up here and there like noxious weeds ever since Bill Clinton’s first term. (See, e.g., the Turner Diaries, the aftermath to Ruby Ridge, &c.) It’s not “a” militia, but they do share a common and thuggish mind-set.

Of course, the gun and ammo manufacturers will quickly rummage up McCarthy v. Olin Corporation, 119 F. 3d 148 (7th Cir., 1997), in which the survivors of a gun rampage on the Long Island commuter railroad sued the manufacturer of the Black Talon bullets. I remember it as a teaching point in Torts, and it makes for infuriating reading.

    https://openjurist.org/119/f3d/148/mccarthy-v-olin-corporation

New York courts do not impose a legal duty on manufacturers to control the distribution of potentially dangerous products such as ammunition. Accordingly, although it may have been foreseeable by Olin that criminal misuse of the Black Talon bullets could occur, Olin is not legally liable for such misuse. As the district court pointed out, appellants have not alleged that any special relationship existed between Olin and Ferguson. Here, Olin could not control the actions of [shooter Colin] Ferguson …

To impose a duty on ammunition manufacturers to protect against criminal misuse of its product would likely force ammunition products–which legislatures have not proscribed, and which concededly are not defectively designed or manufactured and have some socially valuable uses–off the market due to the threat of limitless liability. Because Olin did not owe a legal duty to plaintiffs to protect against Colin Ferguson’s horrible action, appellants’ complaint does not state a cause of action for negligence and the claim was properly dismissed.

Because we hold that the Black Talon bullets were not defectively designed, we must affirm the dismissal of appellants’ strict liability claims. We also hold that Olin was under no legal duty to prevent criminal misuse of its product and therefore affirm the dismissal of the negligence claims. Although appellants are the victims of a horrible tragedy, under New York law, they have failed to state a cause of action upon which relief can be granted–in sum, New York law does not afford them a remedy. Accordingly, we affirm the judgment of the district court.

    • E.J.

Fear of additional law suits and public pressure led to the manufacturer restricting sales in 1993 and eventually the ammo was pulled from the market.

      • coram nobis

That is true, but the case still suggest it will be uphill sledding for survivors to make any kind of connection between the shooter and the weaponry, which is why this case shows up in Torts classes as an illustration. The survivors did also sue the Long Island railroad, so I imagine these survivors might sue the school district.

Not only that , but the shooters facebook page contained references to allah and islam and antifa and ISIS and how he admired these groups.
