Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Claims He Paid Porn Star Out Of His Own Pocket, Not From Campaign Funds

The New York Times reports:

Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, said on Tuesday that he had paid $130,000 out of his own pocket to a pornographic-film actress who had once claimed to have had an affair with Mr. Trump.

In the most detailed explanation of the 2016 payment made to the actress, Stephanie Clifford, Mr. Cohen, who worked as a counsel to the Trump Organization for more than a decade, said he was not reimbursed for the payment.

“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,” Mr. Cohen said in a statement to The New York Times. “The payment to Ms. Clifford was lawful, and was not a campaign contribution or a campaign expenditure by anyone.”

He declined to answer several follow-up questions, including whether Mr. Trump had been aware that Mr. Cohen made the payment, why he made the payment or whether he had made similar payments to other people over the years.

Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Claims He Paid Porn Star Out Of His Own Pocket, Not From Campaign Funds

His pockets were deep and inclusive.

  • GayOldLady

Doesn’t everybody’s Lawyer pay $130k in hush money to their clients Porn Star mistresses? Just when you think the actions of these crazy SOB’s can’t get any more bizarre, they DO!

    • jeffg166

      The best people believe me.

    • Ranger One

Yea, he paid 13,000 dollars of hush money from his own account. Riiiiight.

      • AmeriCanadian

You are missing a zero in your amount.

        • David Walker

The missing 0 represents the amount of leadership currently found in DC.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

How much do you bill an hour for this service? $150,000?

      • GayOldLady

It’s amazing, isn’t it? I hope everyone of these women go to the press and disclose how the money was transferred to them so the FEC and Mueller can find all of these Contributions in Kind to the Trump campaign, because that’s what they are. They’re hush money paid in service to the Trump Campaign.

        • The_Wretched

Didn’t John Edwards (anyone remember him?) get hit with penalties for that?

          • GayOldLady

The FEC tried to bring charges against him, but they failed to prove that what he paid his Mistress was from campaign money or even that it was hush money. I think the conclusion was that he was taking care of his mistress because she was pregnant with his baby.

    • Rambie

Is Cohen basically admitting he laundered money for Trump?

      • GayOldLady

I’m not sure you call it that, but he is admitting that he paid hush money on Trump’s behalf.

        • Rambie

He got the 130K from somewhere. I know he claims his own money, but where did his bank account get 130K? Sounds like a cause to audit his accounts and billings to me.

          • GayOldLady

Agree. I don’t think his explanation will fly with the FEC.

          • Chuck in NYC

            Maybe he won Lotto.

          • The_Wretched

Cohen is pretty well off on his own. He did shady real estate and met Trump that way.

          • Rambie

He wouldn’t give away 130K of his own money, he was just a middle man,

          • The_Wretched

Right, his lie is pretty non-convincing that it’s personal funds and not a violation of the Trump Campaign funds rules.

          • Just Noh

well, he’s quite rich. mobbed up with shady ukrainian/russian figures for a long time…and skimming trump org deals.

      • Uncle Mark

If he didn’t launder the money, then how do you get the stench of cheap porn star & old bloated mango out of it?

      • The_Wretched

It’s not money laundering unless Cohen was compensated with funds from illegal sources (such as prostitution or drug sales).

        • Rambie

Still he’s admitting he’s the middle man

    • The_Wretched

They could do with a CLE on credible lies.

  • DN

I’ve had jobs where I’ve loved my boss. I’d crawl across glass right now to work for one in particular. But donate $130,000 to him? Fat fucking chance. Get Mueller on this because there is no way this is the truth.

    • AmeriCanadian

I bet you would pay it knowing that you would get double, triple, even quadruple back in one form or another.

      • DN

Sure would! And I’m no lawyer but I bet that payout would be accompanied by a stylish orange jumpsuit 🙂

  • joeyj1220
  • Rocco

Does Cohen even have other clients?

  • GayOldLady

The real story will be how many more of these payments were made to other women to keep them quiet. In the Trump tell all book “Fire and Fury”, there were apparently reports of many others.

    • David Walker

I’m thinking the First Tart has yet more reason to be pissed off. Not only does this validate the claim that the fucking moron DID have sex with Miss Daniels, but it raises the legit question of how many more? Was it just during Mel’s pregnancy? Doesn’t president shithole pay for anything ?

      • GayOldLady

We know there are more women that were paid hush money and restricted by NDA’s. It’s just a matter of time before some of these women call a reporter and blow this story wide open. There is so much scandal around Trump it’s difficult to know what to focus on.

        • David Walker

But…but…what scandal? Rich people are different from the rest of us. They do this sort of thing (i.e., shit, lie, stiff contractors) because they can. And being above common decency doesn’t hurt, either.

        • bzrd

wouldn’t that be grand, have about 5 NDA ladies at the same time with fabulous fck stories. Would he then sue them all??? It would certainly interfere with his golf game not to mention ………….

          • GayOldLady

Can you imagine the POTUS suing strippers and porn stars and female escorts for outing their NDA with him? Every woman who has been forced into an NDA with Trump because she feared she wasn’t powerful enough to fight him in a court should step forward. Every victim of sexual assault, every witness to sexual assault, every single person, including his employees who have facilitated him and feel trapped by an NDA should come forward.

  • j.martindale

Oh, the amazing decorum of the tRump White House. Dignity incarnate! No scandal here. (One of) the presidunt’s whore(s) wasn’t paid with illegal funds, so what is there to worry about?

  • TampaZeke

Wait a minute. Paid her for WHAT? Trump says nothing happened and she said nothing happened so what in the world was he paying her for? Her foreign affairs expertise?

    • Acronym Jim

Out of the goodness of his hearsnidljweklx………….

*****(((ERROR 589 – THIS COMMENT HAS SUFFERED A FATAL ERROR FOR BEING COMPLETELY OUT OF THE REALM OF REALITY. THIS COMMENT WILL SHUT DOWN AND RESTART)))*****

      • William

If only more things would die from the sheer weight of hypocrisy.

    • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

THIS is the question. Why isn’t anybody asking it?

    • AltheaTheCat

And if he was paying the money, why did he feel the need to set up a shell corporation in Delaware to do it? Who was HE hiding this from?

    • Strepsi

you’ll have to wait for the ABC movie of the week,WHO FUCKED STORMY DANIELS?

  • BearEyes

who put the money in Cohen’s pocket? If not tRump, then RNC? NRA?
This story is like jared’s financial disclosures – ever changing.

    • GayOldLady

According to Cohen he paid the money out of his own pocket because everyone shells out $130k in hush money to porn stars that have screwed their friend. It happens everyday.

      • UrsusArctos 🐻

With the exchange rate of October 16, that would have been 7.4 million rubles. $130k sounds like a bargain.

        • GayOldLady

          🙂

    • Uncle Mark

Did someone get some “birthday money” from Putin?

  • Karl Dubhe

Maybe you should have tried that claim the day after the story broke. Not a month later…

    • GayOldLady

They’ve been lying their asses off since the story broke, now Cohen is admitting she was paid, by him, with his funds. They’ve acted with total impunity for so long they have no idea how foolish and criminal they look.

      • They’ve been lying their asses off since day one.

      • olandp

        “Says who?”

        • GayOldLady

          LOL!

      • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Dont lawyers of rich assholes USUALLY pay the blackmailer? Ive seen enuf movies to realize that. And that hush money is delivered by the crooked lawyer but its never the lawyers $

        • Paul

I assume that since he was 45’s personal lawyer that he was on a retainer so the $130,000 would have been only a small amount to such a “high profile” client as 45. And I am sure that there are some “special billable hours” somewhere over the year.

    • Rolf

I love the timing of this.
      Happy Valentine’s Day Melania!

      • Karl Dubhe

Ha! I love being single. 🙂

  • Joe in PA

Well, there was that time when Obama wore that tan suit.

    • GayOldLady

Dammit you know that wearing the tan suit was much more serious than paying off porn stars, right before the election, to keep them quiet about adultery.

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Yes, but only within the Evangelical Community.

    • The_Wretched

Obama was also pinkie off on a cup of coffee once.

  • Michael R
  • GayOldLady

This makes “I did not have sex with that woman, Ms Lewinsky” look like child’s play. POTUS paid hush money to a porn star just a few weeks before the election. You just can’t make this shit up.

    • Joe in PA

Well, not to bring up a sad/sore subject but the “depends on the what you mean by “is” is pretty crappy. (I’m paraphrasing but still). Not crappy like this, but still crappy.

      • GayOldLady

I concur, very, very crappy. I’ve always known what “is”, is and so has everyone else. To be so smart Bill could be so dumb, or maybe too smart by half.

        • j.martindale

I thank Dog I don’t have a prosecutor who is looking to entrap me for every bad thing I ever did in my life. The fact that the worst Clinton ever did that they could unearth was lie about a blow job doesn’t rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors in my book. And I think the “scandal” can be put to bed now. Remember, we had W killing tens of thousands in an unjust war, and tRump’s treasonous collusion with Russia. We ought to focus on real scandal of major proportions rather than little embarrassments in Democrat’s’ past.

          • GayOldLady

I liked Bill. I voted for him and volunteered for him, but he was a womanizer and he was unfaithful to Hillary. I was disappointed in Bill but I always thought that Bill’s infidelity was between Bill and Hillary. Still, he lied under oath, which was too stupid for a man who’s so damn smart (I believe one of the brightest Presidents we ever had) and it cost him so much and it also damaged Hillary, which I find infuriating.

          • William

He hedged that lie by saying he didn’t have “sexual relations” with that woman. Because only a lawyer would split the hair between intercourse and a BJ.

  • greenmanTN

Fine. Now say it under oath, when perjury applies.

  • Kevin Perez

This reminds me of what goes on in my life (said no one, ever)

  • JCF

    Cohen, You.Are.Not.Helping…

This little dino smells a steamin’ pile of BS.
    Gross!!

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

      A veritable buffet of bullshit

  • netxtown

so the lawyer did her, too?

  • olandp

Lawyers pay off people from their own money all the time, right?

  • Frank McCormick

As if we can believe anything that comes out Camp Trump!

  • kareemachan

Simple: all he needs to do is show us where he got the money from. A bank statement, investment fund statement, etc.

  • Jay Silversmith

OK. Have Mueller subpoena Cohen’s bank records to prove it. Next, we’ll hear that it was actually Sarah Huckleberry that paid it.

  • gaycuckhubby

HaHa!!! Joe, you pick the perfect picture to go along with this absurd claim.

  • Bambino

A lawyer paid out of his own pocket for his client? Says who? Disney should file a copyright infringement for a script stolen from its vault.

  • Halou

    $130,000.
    I don’t think so.

  • AmeriCanadian

I heard this on the radio news while driving in. The announcer added, at the end, that the lawyer said “I will always protect Mr. Trump”. I was really surprised to hear that on this station because (like all AM radio) it leans conservative and that sort of sounds damning, to me at least.

  • William

Will Mr Cohen rent me a porn star for an evening?

  • Marty Pavelka

One thing that strikes me about this whole fiasco….$130,000 is such an odd amount for hush money. OK, 100,000 or 200,000, I’d understand 150,000, but 130,000 seems odd, as if they wanted to pay out some hush money and this particular amount happened to be available immediately. This intrigues me.

    • UrsusArctos 🐻

7.4 million rubles exchanged to $130k in October 16, but that’s an odd figure as well.

    • KarenAtFOH

      “I need $200,000!
      No way, $100,000.
      150.
      130K, final offer.
      Done”

  • Stephen Elliot Phillips

So lets see where we are.
    The poor will be force fed soylent green in a can manufactured by corporations;
while men pay hookers 100’s of thousands of donated corporate dollars in hush money.

Such moral times Rome is living in.

    • Jerry Kott

The dots don’t connect anymore. And when they do it looks like a scribble.

    • drbrentzenobia

Soylent Green – now with more girls!

  • drbrentzenobia

How civic-minded of him. If only others would follow this man’s patriotic example and bail Trump out of other bills: his attorney fees; his unpaid construction contractors; the white supremacists to whom Trump promised legal assistance if they smashed protesters in the mouth; his various charities that exist only to deflect fines from the Orange One; his bankruptcy creditors. The opportunity for selfless public service is just endless. “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for The Donald!”

  • canoebum

Shouldn’t he be disbarred for telling such blatant lies? Paid out of his own pocket. Good one.

  • JAKvirginia

    Bullshit.

  • marshlc

I’m going to have to have a talk with my lawyer. He’s never shelled out any money from his own pocket to protect ME from embarrassment. Now that I know this is something lawyers do…..

    • bzrd

      reminds me of the joke
“What’s good about a cold, windy day?”
Lawyers have their hands in their own pockets!

  • Uncle Mark

So if Stormy’s allegation of an affair wasn’t true, then why the $130,000 in hush money? If Stormy was blackmailing him, wouldn’t Trump sue her, like he threatens to sue everyone? Furthermore, blackmail is federal offense. Since there were allegations against him from other women, it would have been to Trump’s advantage to destroy this one “false” blackmail/allegation in court; thus casting doubt on all the other allegations.

Except, none of the above is true, as Trump & Co are too cheap to pay for “nothing.” Melania’s reaction is certainly revealing as to how likely this trist was real. Lastly, the DOJ should really look into this, as they did in the John Edward’s case.

  • TrollopeReader

further in one of his quotes is that he “facilitated” the payment … there is a lot of wiggle-waggle in the word ….

  • Charles Nelson

I am going to post this to my own lawyer. I going to expect that he personally pay for any parking tickets that I get in the future. Isn’t that what private attorney’s are supposed to do…pay for their clients charges?

  • Cipher

Backpedaling to avoid the obvious violation of campaign finance laws.

  • TrollopeReader
  • Larry L

Because, that’s what lawyers do….pay out $130K and get nothing in return….only the Trump base would believe this pile of bull.

  • Kevin Andrews

Fresh from the synagogue of Satan, Cohn just buys off the prostitute? The Fascist Zionist bastards are really stretching for that. Cohn wouldn’t spring for cab fare much less $130K for the Shitgibbon. Wonder if it was Putin or Bibi?

  • Daniel E. Duclo

Just another example of a contractor that didn’t get reimbursed. MONEY LAUNDERING!

  • ColdCountry

    Riiiiiiiight.

  • UrsusArctos 🐻
  • The_Wretched

Cohen just happens to have a spare $130k lying around? In cash!!!

  • Larry Hankamer

Then who reimbursed Cohen? He didn’t say the Trump Foundation didn’t reimburse him.

  • Stogiebear

“In the most detailed explanation of the 2016 payment made to the actress….”

It is a tribute to the spontaneous vitality of the truth that we never hear of someone blurting out a lie.

  • Xuuths

Definitely want to see his entire financial history. Perhaps a tax audit as well.

  • -M-

Sure, Jan. What lawyer doesn’t spontaneously pay $130,000 in hush money ‘out of his own pocket’, through a shell corporation, weeks before an election.

  • Galvestonian

This is a lawyer – A LAWYER – a New York Lawyer. Right ? When would any lawyer pay for anything out of his own pocket ? NEVER !

  • JWC

Hmmm Why do I think someone will follow the money on this and it too will blow up on them

  • EqualityForAll

I wonder how much the Trump campaign paid Cohen to fabricate such a ridiculous lie.

  • FelineMama

Would he swear this under oath? Of course, liars, I mean lawyers, know how to work around this.
Falling on your sword for the Dumpster. What kind of a deal did you get??

  • BobSF_94117

Sounds like a gift to me. Anybody pay the gift tax on it?

  • BobSF_94117

I bet it was an anniversary gift for Trump and Melania. Let’s see…

    1ST YEAR: Paper.
    2ND YEAR: Cotton.
    3RD YEAR: Leather.
    4TH YEAR: Hooker slush fund.
    5TH YEAR: Wood.

    7TH YEAR: Wool/ Copper.
