ARIZONA: GOP US Senate Candidate Kelli Ward Touts Endorsement From Anonymous Fake News Site

Politico reports:

It looked as if Arizona Senate candidate Kelli Ward had scored a big endorsement: On Oct. 28, she posted a link on her campaign website and blasted out a Facebook post, quoting extensively from a column in the Arizona Monitor.

There was just one problem: Despite its reputable sounding name, the Arizona Monitor is not a real news site. It is an anonymous, pro-Ward blog that has referred to her primary opponent Martha McSally as “Shifty McSally,” frequently blasted Flake and, at the top of its home page, proclaims its mission as “Striking Fear into the Heart of the Establishment.”

The site launched just a few weeks before publishing the endorsement, and its domain registration is hidden, masking the identity of its owner. On its Facebook page, it is classified as a news site, but scant other information is offered.

The Arizona Monitor seems to be part of a growing trend of conservative political-messaging sites with names that mimic those of mainstream news organizations and whose favored candidates then tout their stories and endorsements as if they were from independent journalists.

Ward will also face Joe Arpaio in the primary.

  • Friday’s_cat

I’m shocked, shocked, I tells ya!
The party of Lincoln and Eisenhower would stoop to vile chicanery.

  • Joe in PA

Kelli Ward and Joe Arpaio…ah, the embarrassment of riches in the GOP. Love it.

    • The GOP primary should be televised.

    • greenmanTN

      Heavy on the embarrassment.

    • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

It’s Arizona. Don’t be shocked when they both win the seat.

      • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

Arpaio … Arizona has set a very low bar indeed if they’re running a pardoned criminal. I really think we need higher moral standards for our elected officials.

    • prixator

      Is Martha McSally any better?

  • JCF

    ROFL!

  • In a related story, the American Council of Foods has declared that my cooking is amazing and that you should eat dessert first.

    • Mark

      I’m there! lol

    • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Who am I to buck a reliable source like that?

  • Could it be, that amongst all the fake news sites, that even the politicians don’t know what’s real and fake?
    Just a thought.

    • Possible. Or they don’t care.

Or maybe they’re aware that their supporters won’t know or care.

Or maybe they’re just all that delusional.

    • kareemachan

Sounds more like she had it set up for her.

    • skyweaver

That’s an interesting question. I think the smart ones know they’ve got a series of levers that seem to engage their electorate just enough to give them continual power, but know most of it’s horseshit. They’re merely cynical. There are clearly dangerous ones that actually believe the nonsense they’re spewing and are just as deranged as their base is.

  • Bluto

The gop has sunk so low that this is the caliper of candidates they can attract while one third of murica cheers.

    • Karl Dubhe

      How’d that ‘b’ fall upsidedown? 🙂

      caliBer.

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Depends what is being measured. 😉

  • Steve Smith

No actual policy proposals, then, Ms. Ward? Just name calling, “anti-establishment” racist drivel and the usual lies, whereas, if elected, you;ll be first in the queue for establishment handouts from the Koch bros. and their like.

    • Michael White

Does any Rethug has a policy? They are still reacting to Pres Obama, nothing but hate and terror.

  • Joe in PA

It really is too bad that domain registrations can be hidden like that. Remember when there was some “calligraphy” company that was going to file suit against some anti-discrimination state…it was all set up by Liberty Counsel (probably).

  • Gustav2

This is good, US Rep Vern Buchanan’s kid couldn’t win a state legislature seat in Sarasota. It is a 12 pt flip since Trump. Catch the Wave!

    GOP, the party of corruption.

  • LSMC1987

When we find these, we need to complain to Facebook about these fake sites.

    • Tread

Ha. What have they ever done to shut fake news down?

      • LSMC1987

Maybe, perhaps, possible, they’re more sensitive to that now……. maybe…… only complaints will tell if they are.

        • Tread

I’ve been sending sites and posts in for review for the last year. Nothing happens. If it makes them money, they don’t care.

          • LSMC1987

Sigh….. you may be right. but I did it anyway. I would hope the more who do the same thing, a different outcome may come.

  • kareemachan

“Shifty McSally”? Is drumpster her writer, then?

  • Karl Dubhe

O/T Damn the milk producers. It used to be that the date on my milk carton was reasonably accurate, it would go off by that date or the day before. Now it’s going bad a week before the date on the carton.

    Ricken racken stuffenpeppers.

    • Tulle Christensen

Make sure your fridge temperature is between 38-40 F

    • Chang to soy or almond milk. Much longer expiration dates.

    • It may have something to do with the way it’s stored and/or shipped — “refrigerated” doesn’t always mean what you and I think it should mean.

      • shellback

OMG. I remember when we had a real president.

    • greenmanTN

Odd. I usually get about a week after the expiration date. After that it still isn’t sour but I give it to the cats.

      • jimbo65

Do the cats tolerate it well? I always heard cats were lactose intolerant. Of course, that doesn’t stop mine from begging for a lick of ice cream.

        • greenmanTN

I haven’t had a problem. No vomiting or diarrhea, no seeming discomfort. Their favorite is if I stir a spoonful of sour cream into it.

        • RaygunsGoZap

They beg? So sweet. My cat will literally climb on me and pull my arm down to reach the spoon. Monster!

          • jimbo65

Mine will be more aggressive with yogurt. She loves yogurt.

    • Bambino

Very much depending on store employees as well. Sometimes crates of dairy products are left in room temperature or warmer in the stock room longer than they need. Employees are either too busy or there’s just not enough of them to tend to. Infrequently, I still get dairy products that gone bad despite the expiry date indicated otherwise.

    • Robincho

You need to store it somewhere other than the kitchen at Merde-a-Lardo…

    • greenmanTN

Skim and the 1% & 2% go bad much faster. That’s one reason why I buy whole milk, the other being that skim is to milk as Coors Light is to beer.

      • Chris Baker

I find that skim spoils less fast. I have had my share of bad milk so I always use the smell test (after I pour it in a glass). I usually get a few days after the ‘best by’ date.

        • Rolf

That’s an illusion. Skim is inherently disgusting so it’s hard to tell when it’s gone off.

        • greenmanTN

Compare the expiration date on skim or 1%, vs whole milk. The exp date will be much further away from the date you buy it on whole milk. Cream is even further out.

Not sure if that was clear. Say you’re in the grocery store on March 1st. The exp date on whole milk will be (for example) March 14, but skim milk will be on maybe March 10.

      • Ben in Oakland

More animal fat. It will kill you if something else doesn’t get you first.

        • greenmanTN

You don’t live longer drinking skim milk, it just seems longer. 😉

          • Ben in Oakland

I prefer 2% myself, though I do like richer milk. It’s my compromise between pleasure and health.

    • shellback

I discovered milk MUST be stored on the bottom shelf of the icebox. Don’t use that special place manufacturers make on the door – or any other place other than the bottom shelf. I made that mistake.

      • Chris Baker

icebox? how old are you? haha. I am just teasing you. I am always interested in regional variations in terms. Do people in your area still call it ‘icebox’ or maybe it’s just a family thing? My dad used to call the sofa a ‘davenport’ (he was from Montana, and went to college in Wisconsin). Somewhat related, my BF is [relatively recently] from Cuba and calls the refrigerator the ‘freezer’ in spite of me correcting him, and several times I have wanted to start referring to it as the ‘icebox’ cause I like that term.

        • shellback

I’ll bet I’m old enough to tan your hide with a switch behind the woodshed.
Actually, I’m a bit younger than that. My older relatives always referred to a refrigerator as an icebox – I guess it just stuck.

        • Igby

I call it an icebox. Much to the chagrin of Hubby. I also refer to sheets and pillow cases as the bed clothes.

          • shellback

OMG Were we separated at birth. I call them bed clothes as well.

    • RaygunsGoZap

Sorry! My boyfriend convinced me a couple of years ago to only by organic milk. The expense was a barrier at first but the milk was so much better.

    • The_Wretched

I’d expect it’s your vendor or supply chain not refrigerating properly. Milks fine around here.

  • BearEyes

No different than that fake pediatric association several years ago with fake study claiming LGBT parents raise crappy kids. Except for repeated exposures to sunlight, not how better to expose them.

    • Todd20036

All kids are crappy. That’s what diapers are for

  • jimbo65

OT. So the rare tines I’m watching Morning Joe. Eric Bolling, Mr. Dick texter is on. Relating his son’s suicide with the opioid crisis. The same crisis that this POS POTUS is doing nothing about.

“Ward will also face Joe Arpaio in the primary.”

It is like that time the KKK and Westboro Baptists got into a fight. No matter who wins it still ends with shit.

    • Todd20036

More like, maybe they’ll beat each other bloody and the Democratic will win

  • SoCalGal20

I’m laughing that McSally has to throw a bunch of money around before the primary because Kelli Ward is running against her. Meanwhile Krysten Sinema is just raking in the money on the Dem side and has a bunch of cash on hand ready to go once the primaries are over.

  • Luther Kreiger

Can’t get anyone to support you, GOP? No problem! Use those “campaign donations” funneled from billionaires to pay people to *create* supporters, ta-dah! Now you’re endorsed by important-sounding people and ready to go!

  • Charles Nelson

Strange how the Monitor’s Facebook fees have been paid in rubles…

  • Menergy

The head shot photo reminds me: why has the dry, straight scraggly unattractive long shoulder length women’s hair style taken hold? It’s ugly, not appealing or pretty hair, and looks terrible in almost all cases ,( IMNSHO). Or even the long twisted wave hair style like Huckster’s or sometimes KellyAnne Cuntway’s. Time for a new fad.

    • TexasBoy

It has taken hold because gay hairdressers are refusing to do Republican hair. They have to go to the beauty schools and discount chains.

    • Ann Kah

      It’s a thirty-year-old wig, perhaps?

  • Harveyrabbit

That endorsement is nothing. Arpaio was endorsed by Prison Beatings Weekly.

    • jmax

The latest issue of PBW has Sheriff David Clarke as the centerfold. Hawt!

  • Mikey

And of course, Fakebook doesn’t have any sort of “official” option for actually reporting the page as a fake news website. None of its options allow you to specify the reason for you report.

    • Girlgoon

I drive by fakebook headquarters quite often on my way to do the bidding of the silicon valley elites. Always a crowd of dumb tourists out there tripping over each other’s selfie sticks in a bid to get a picture of themselves with the giant thumb

I see Chem Trail Kelli is back at it again.

    In short…

This is Donny Ferguson’s old trick. Donny Ferguson was one of Eugene Delgaudio’s sidekicks. He went on to become a spokesperson for Texas Congressman Steve Stockman.

He set up a fake website that presented itself as a Montana newspaper, the Montana Standard.

    https://realloudoun.com/2012/11/01/learning-from-the-master-of-corrupt-politics-himself/

    https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/mysterious-docs-found-in-meth-house-reveal-inner-workings-of-dark-money-group/

The front page accused the Democratic gubernatorial candidate of being soft on sex offenders.

All the sites got scrubbed years ago. Donny himself is still around. The picture on his Twitter account is from the Montana Standard days.

Chemtrail Kelli. She’s a nutcase who hates the gays, immigrants, non-white people. The voters in rural AZ love her.
