House Intelligence Committee Republicans To Construct Literal Wall To Democratic Staffers Out Of Their Spaces

CBS News reports:

In a sign of increasing partisan hostilities, Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee plan to construct a wall – a physical partition – separating Republican and Democratic staff members in the committee’s secure spaces, according to multiple committee sources. It’s expected to happen this spring.

For now, some Republican committee members deny knowing anything about it, while strongly suggesting the division is the brainchild of the committee’s chairman, Devin Nunes, R-California. “I’m not part of that decision,” said Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas. “You’ve got to talk to Devin. I don’t know what they’re trying to do one way or the other.”

“I swear to God I didn’t know that,” said Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Florida, when asked about the plan. While acknowledging a wall might not be constructive for the committee’s work, he said, “The level of trust and the level of everything down there is – it’s poison. It’s absolute poison down there.”

        • Librarykid

Like the Kennedy center in the late 70s when the waterproof membrane under the kitchen started to leak and the National Parks Service could not find money to fix it so it ran down the wall of the theater under it and ruined the plaster over the years it took them to find money to fix it. Eventually the theater had to be closed for repairs, but that is government wisdom and efficiency.

That’s how I used to describe choosing soloists in a community chorus. Most of the time rehearsal was like herding cats, and I was pretty good at that. But choosing soloists? When it got to be too difficult (she can’t handle that G, but she has no emotions), I’d decide that it would really sound good if all the first sopranos took that. It really was like “how do we carve up this baby?”

          • greenmanTN

I have what is possibly the world’s worst singing voice. In 5th grade we were practicing for the Christmas pageant and the music teacher kept walking back and forth with his ear cocked, trying to figure out where that awful sound came from. It was me. So instead of singing about a Winter Wonderland they had me skate around in my sock feet pretending to be in one.

Years later I was listening to a song, wearing headphones, humming along with it quietly (I thought), and I turned around and my entire family was laughing with tears streaming down their faces, almost rolling on the floor.

I admire people who can sing, but I can’t. My speaking voice isn’t bad (I think) but I absolutely cannot sing.

Rep. Duncan Hunter is hitting the skids…..and add allegations of having 2 women on the side.

“In interviews with lawmakers and congressional aides who have closely associated with Hunter, a picture emerges of a promising young lawmaker who appears to have lost his way. Hunter has developed a reputation on Capitol Hill for drinking heavily and carousing, according to multiple lawmakers and staffers who have witnessed his behavior over the past several years.

Former staffers to Hunter said he and his lawmaker friends — dubbed the “bros caucus” by his aides — would regularly go to the Capitol Hill Club, a Republican hangout, to drink beer, sometimes during the day. Congressional aides have recounted to POLITICO at least two stories of recent official meetings where lawmakers questioned whether Hunter was intoxicated.

In one December huddle between Republicans on the Armed Services Committee and GOP leaders, Hunter raised his voice at Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), accusing the Republican leader of undercutting the military with an irresponsible funding strategy. According to people who were present or heard about it afterward, members noticed his bloodshot eyes and speech and questioned whether Hunter was under the influence.”

If/when we ever overthrow/throw out the GOP, there must be consequences. No more “forgive and forget because they’re our colleagues and it’s just politics”–which is the Democratic instinct.

What the GOP has done is beyond the pale of acceptable behavior in a democratic republic.

Absolutely disgusting when the Oscars embraced Spicey after the lies he deliberately spread. There needs to be severe social consequences for these people–just like the sexual predators and child molestors.

Soon to include expulsion of republicans who ‘fraternize with the enemy’ on the other side of the wall? Did Nunes spring for the optional razorwire package?

  • Friday

    Sure, that’s *totally* normal.

  • JohnJay

Why is Nunes even able to do anything? Last week that memo, new memos are promised, and now this. He recused himself six months ago. Why are we hearing his name at all?

Well, Trump’s congressional water boy is feeling his oats and Jelly-spine Ryan lets him do whatever he wants. Republican governance at its best.

In theory, in the past, intel was supposed to be about national security, and therefore more-or-less was treat as non-partisan.

    Not any more. Sad !

Uh…what am I not understanding about the term “committee”?
