C-SPAN Caller Tears Into Sebastian Gorka [VIDEO]

“First, I would like to say that the elections in 2018 is perhaps the most consequential in our history because we have to stop and impending dictatorship by this white supremacist, right-wing traitor. And Donald Trump, make no mistake, is a traitor, along with everyone in his orbit. We have to look at this relationship with the Russians. Donald trump is owned by the Russian oligarchs because they funded him when U.S. banks wouldn’t. They have compromising information on him. So 2018 will be a very consequential election.” – An unnamed C-SPAN caller during this morning’s appearance by Sebastian Gorka.

As you’ll see below, Gorka chose not to respond to the caller’s claims about Trump and Russia but instead denounced the caller’s “dangerous language” for using words like “white supremacist” and “traitor.”

Gorka, as you surely know, has been accused of belonging to a Nazi-affiliated group in Hungary.

      • Hmmm,

Is It Punch A Nazi Day Today?
It’s Punch A Nazi day on the 28th of January.

In total we detected 57 total unique days being shared such as Signing Day which had 1,158 people talking about it, or Chocolate Cake Day having 780 tweets. A random sample of which are shown below.

National days on the 28th of January

Can I Register Punch A Nazi Day?
We don’t have an international authority or governmental remit to declare any officially celebrated “national Punch A Nazi day”. We only aim to programatically reflect what ‘National Day’ it is based of what The Internet Says It Is. We believe this is much more fun as it reflects the nature of how the most amusing / interesting national days are often created organically and grow based off popular social trends and sharing, as such we don’t add new days to our database unless they are organically observed on social media.

Is it National Punch A Nazi Day Everywhere?
Yes? No.. Sort of | Maybe ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What’s really intersting is how whilst some National Days like National Daughters Day are seemingly celebrated internationally irrespective of geography, some very popular days (That often become the No. 1 National Day on our homepage) are in fact locally very specific and are offical holidays celebrated on a Country’s national calendar. Take National Rambutan Day for instance, Rambutan is a popular Souteast Asian fruit and not seen so much in the UK, Europe or the USA. Some regionally specific trends subsequently become immensely popular internationally and worldwide, partly fuelled by widely shared ‘National Days’, National Pabebe Wave Day being one such example.

teenagers sharing national days on social media

Hang On, It Was National Punch A Nazi Day Already This Year..!?
Yes, this is strangely enough entirely possible. The date shown for National Punch A Nazi Day can change, if for instance several hundred people tweeted about Punch A Nazi Day in early April, then in May a few thousand people tweeted about Punch A Nazi day, then the date shown for National Punch A Nazi Day, could come up twice 😀

        We have also detected mentions of Punch A Nazi day on;

His dress like his face is strictly crowd scene but he thinks it’s spotlit if not centerstage. He often derided critics on their intelligence and handsomeness. They’re weak points for him and I wish more people would exploit them.

      • Dazzer

        Exactly what I was thinking.

He wouldn’t even have been able to get a doctorate from Trump U

      • Lars Littlefield

He earned a Ph.D. in political science from Corvinus University of Budapest and had made his living as a national security expert with a focus on Islamist extremism.

        • Dazzer

          Are you sure?

There was an investigation into him in the UK about a year ago and they concluded that most of the academic qualifications he was claiming came from the UK were false.

These claims he made were never vindicated by British intelligence agencies (with whom he claimed to work) and he certainly wasn’t making any money from British sources as a ‘national security expert with a focus on Islamic terrorism.’

My alma mater is one of the most high-powered academic institutions dealing the ‘orient’ and Africa – and they’d never heard of him.

          • Lars Littlefield

It’s easy to check his academic history. And you don’t even need to use weakipedia. It’s not my fault

          • Dazzer

Yes. I know. And I’m not impugning your research.

The only thing I’m saying is that an awful lot he has claimed about his past has proven to be false.

There doesn’t appear to be any impetus to investigate him in the US, but whenever he’s been looked at in the UK, his claims about himself have never stacked up.

          • Lars Littlefield
          • Dazzer

Thank you for that, I appreciate it.

That is – without doubt – the shoddiest attempt as a Ph.D that I’ve ever read. It’s appallingly bad. It wouldn’t even pass muster as a second-year essay at my old college (The School of Oriental and African Studies).

I have no idea how that piece of drivel was ever awarded a doctorate, but it reinforces the idea that Gorka is a busted flush with piss-poor academic credentials.

          • agcons

Wow, so he’s a liar too. I’m shocked.

        • Raising_Rlyeh

The “PhD” he earned is laughable at best and his dissertation wouldn’t qualify him for that degree in an actual university.

          • Lars Littlefield

Have you read it? While I agree in part with your assessment, I actually waded through it. Your argument holds more power if you can point out intellectual fallacies and and poor logic in the dissertation. The most amusing “new” idea that he seems to think is special is the concept of Transcendental Terrorism. He likes to point out all of the different kinds of “terrorism” that exists in the world and his only means of tying them all together is to make up a nonexistent umbrella. The man truly is a fraud. But you need to call him out publically for his poor arguments.

            Again: http://phd.lib.uni-corvinus.hu/314/2/gorka_sebestyen_ten.pdf

          • Raising_Rlyeh

Hadn’t had a chance to read the dissertation, and I was mostly basing my opinion on the analysis of others and bits and pieces that they highlighted.

          • Lars Littlefield

Another amusing tidbit: The University of Corvinas has a world ranking of 551 out of the 600 of the QS World University Rankings 2012/2013. ASU (Arizona State Univ.) which I conisider one of the weakest excuses for getting a good four-year education but a great place to drink for four years is ranked 127 out of that same 600.

          • Dazzer

On the Times Higher Education rankings for global universities, Corvinus comes in at 801st out of 1,000 for 2018.

          • Lars Littlefield

I think Utah Valley Trade Tech rates higher than that.

          • Dazzer

I’m skimming through the dissertation at the moment. From his very first citation of Francis Fukuyama, he seems determined to set his intellectual level no higher than a jobbing writer for a Sunday broadsheet.

I’m going through his citations first (to get a flavour of how he will build his argument) and then will go back to read his analyses – but this dissertation is really not great.

          • Lars Littlefield

            You’re being too kind. 🙂

      • JT

Yes, that was very popular during the Nazi occupations.

        • Resistance was not futile during the Nazi occupations. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was the most famous — other uprisings of Jews, Romas, Political prisoners, Prisoners of War, Slavs, LGBT people in concentration camps and ghettos occurred and were not documented and are just coming to light. Partisan armies and underground fighters did much to wear down the Nazi occupation. Don’t think for one second there was no resistance to brutality. 11 million people died in concentration camps — but they fought back as best as they could. We cannot be passive to advocates of genocide — and I am not endorsing the shutting down of free speech.

Because corporate journalists cling to the idea that, to be “fair” and “objective”, they must present “both sides”. Even if one of the sides is LITERAL NAZIS.

Also, corporate journalists are blinded by a sense of self-importance and insulated by wealth and privilege. As such, they have never given much thought about what will happen when the LITERAL NAZIS come after them, much less about what the LITERAL NAZIS quite explicitly intend to do to racial minorities, immigrants, women, LGBTs, handicapped people, etc.

  • JackFknTwist

This dunce is just another loud mouth. Do they breed ? What a lump of shite.

We have seen so many opinionated right wing nut cases on US tv, it’s like a collection in some Victorian freak show:

    Lou Dobbs
    Sean Hannity
-that baby faced crew cut c unt……

    I, a foreigner, can’t remember the goons.
Every time I’m in the States I watch news shows, but I avoid Fox…….it reminds me too much of fascist propaganda.

But seriously , is it the water ?
    Is it a virus ?
These goons do not exist in the wild, they seem to be a type of fungus which slimes the walls of TV studios in the US.
    We need a spray !

      I forgot :
      Rush Limbaugh.
But the serious point I make is that I listen British Radio, and TV, I hear Irish Radio and TV. I hear reasonable people making sensible points and discussions.

I have never in my entire life heard any right wing nut jobs like these.

Jacob Rees Mogg, a right wing conservative MP, was mobbed at a University over the weekend because he was a hard line Brexiteer talking about leaving the EU. He wasn’t peddling extreme right wing anti immigrant bile. Just a different point of view.

One of the USA talk show people would be pulled limb from limb if he appeared in a similar place.

Why are there extreme right wingers loose in the USA ?
      Why so many
      Why so deranged ?
      Why are they tolerated ?
      Why are they popular ?

If you read through the transcript, Mr. Gorka comes off as very rational, cool, collected, etc. Not making wild claims. Evaluate the evidence, etc. Although his statement that Trump “doesn’t have a racist bone in his body” seems to be outweighed by the evidence.

If you go back to the C-Span site, there is an interview earlier in the morning with a Betsy Woodruff, who is with the Daily Beast, who has a very balanced view of the Nunes memo and some interesting background on FISA warrants and the tension between the FBI’s sources (including gangsters and drug dealers) and our expectations about accountability and transparency.

I would rather hear from Ursula the Sea Witch and Cruella DeVille. It would be more informative.

  • yeah, and our press corpse just gives them a pass, over and over. “are you a radical environmentalist who spikes redwood trees?” they will ask, over and over. but “are you an actual fucking nazi?” they will not. there are reasons for this. which leads to reasons why the most i’ll do is read posts at Joe’s about them, but never watch them or read their fascist filth. there is, to use a word they like, a solution. it involves most of them being at the very least uncomfortable, for the rest of their lives.

  • Uncle Mark

How is this fucking Nazi relevant? He was shitcanned by Trump last year, and seems to have little influence over him. How desperate are these “news” programs to have a live body on their shows?

    • This is how I feel about the stupid 4 page “nunes memo”. It’s a joke! Do we really need to be devoting two weeks of front-page news coverage to it? Aren’t there more important things to obsess over?

I once thought it was the monkeys in the jungle that was making the sound.

        • SoCalGal20

It’s quite something. There are neighborhoods in Los Angeles that have endemic populations of peacocks from back in old timey days when people thought they were exotic and decorative or whatever. The Los Angeles Arboretum in Arcadia also has their own population some of which make their way around Arcadia (over to Santa Anita racetrack or the mall, etc). It’s…something.

          • Yeah my friend in north Pasadena has them all over the neighborhood. I stayed there – I have no idea how they can sleep at night. They had their wedding at the Arboretum and their reception at that racetrack’s function room.

          • SoCalGal20

I used to live in Pasadena, a block south of Washington. No peacocks. However, we had flocks of parrots which are their own special noisemakers. 5:30am and you can HEAR them coming into the neighborhood like Flight of the Valkyries lol.

There are several different families of parrots now, some have taken up residence in other parts of the city. There is a group that does a flyover of my neighborhood that lives in the palm trees on Dolores St in Noe Valley. You can always hear them coming.

          • Cuberly Deux

            Excellent documentary.

Whenever I’m on Delores St. passing those huge palms it’s so cool to hear them jabbering away. Though they’re so deep within the fronds it’s impossible to see them.

    • I just read Biden’s latest book (recommended) and my sense is that people in the Obama white house mostly got along. I don’t see BO pitting people against each other or similar Trump-like power plays. They disagreed about substantive matters of policy but it wasn’t personal or factional. “In Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, Miller was described as a “a fifty-five-year-old trapped in a thirty-two-year-old’s body”; Wolff noted that “other than being a far-right conservative, it was unclear what particular abilities accompanied Miller’s views. He was supposed to be a speechwriter, but if so, he seemed restricted to bullet points and unable to construct sentences. He was supposed to be a policy adviser but knew little about policy. He was supposed to be the house intellectual but was militantly unread. He was supposed to be a communications specialist but he antagonized almost everyone.”

          • Lars Littlefield

Interesting question. With the exception of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, and Busby Berkeley the majority of male choreographers were very, very gay. I remember hearing that MGM kept a herd of gay male dancers well fed and on retainer for use in all of their musicals. But I’m sure there were heterosexual hoofers trying to make a living dancing in film, too. Michael Kidd, Roland Petit, Tommy Tune, Hermes Pan, Bob Avian, Billy Ortega, Paul Taylor, Jack Cole, Jerome Robbins . . . the list continues with the majority of contemporary choreographers and dancers were and are gay. Even Gower Champion, married to Marge Champion, was pleasantly bisexual. So, if I were a betting man I’d guess that at least 80% of those tripping the light fantastic with Judy Garland were/are friends of Dorothy. Whadda you think?

They have been joined by Poland in this regard recently. There are some very ultraconservative and right wing elements in both governments. Yet, they remain full US allies — if they are attacked we have to come to their defense. Gorka was called Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s man in the White House. So my question is this — why exactly are we defending Hungary and paying for a missile defense in Europe right now? Maybe we should rethinking our policy there.

    • Bambino

Oh my! Such fluffy big paws they got.

      • JT

        Snowshoes.

        • Silver Badger

          With sharp claws.

          • JT

            Added traction.

      • MBear

Largest paw to body ratio or something like that

    • Dazzer

They’d eat your head and use the rest of your body for kitty liter.

    • kareemachan

      LOOK AT THOSE PAWS!

ETA: I should have looked at other comments before typing, I guess.

Also, on a not-so-fun note, when I lived in AK I took film in to be developed (yup, I’m that old). Some guy was picking up a photo he had had enlarged. It was a lynx with its paw in a bear trap (the kind with jaws). The asshat was SO proud of this photo – which he took before killing the lynx – that it made me want to puke. The lynx was gorgeous and you could tell by the look in its eyes that it knew it was going to die – after gawd knows how long it suffered. Just the kind of thing the drumpsters would admire. I’ve killed animals for food – mostly fish – but for something like that, no way.

This happened years ago but still affects me big time. 🙁

I’d cuddle up to those kittehs if they let me, tho.

      • SoCalGal20

Hunters like that disgust me. Proud of their cruelty. Like Junior and Eric’s safari. Ugh.

      • AmeriCanadian

My first real camera was a Minolta X-700. I was SO proud of owning that. I carried it everywhere. I still have it but it’s too big and bulky (and film development is expensive) to use anymore. I don’t miss those parking lot Fotomats though. What an eyesore.

You’re story regarding the lynx is sad. It’s too bad people like that don’t get caught in traps themselves, left to suffer and die a long, drawn-out death.

      • Chef Philips

Thanks for the nauseating picture I will now be unable to remove from my brain

    • Cattleya1

Look at the size of those paws. Just think what they would do to the couch.

      • AmeriCanadian

        I don’t think you’d survive being swatted.

    • Galvestonian

Kittens with paws that BIG ?

  • William

    Accused, that’s funny.

  • Silver Badger

Poor Mr. Gorka. He looks so sad. I can just see him sadly shaking his head as we are marched into the ovens.

    • JCF

“Oh, the things we had to watch!”: attributed to actual SS officers (may be apocryphal).

      • fuow

No, it’s a genuine lament. The poor little things.

  • Rocco

This fascist pig should be deported. He is a walking Goebbels ad. Much like Trumputin, whatever swill leaks out of that noxious pie hole should be considered utter propaganda and its opposite the truth. Ugh.

I think you are actually referring to a shithole which would be trump’s big mouth and from which it spews – and attracts said roaches.

This guy has run before and is akin to the crazy woman Joe features on here when she runs for City Council who never wins.
He is running in a solid D district and has no chance of being the Rep.
IMO, he needs to be ignored in favor of the other crackpots like him such as Joe Arpaio who can actually win.

    • Lars Littlefield

No he’s not. He’ll be dead before he sits in Congress. My Magic 8 ball assures me of this!

    • another_steve

This is actually a positive development, as it just about ensures that the Democratic nominee will win.

Of course, provided that people – including Colin Kaepernick – actually bother to vote. [In 2016, Kaepernick suppressed his own vote; no Republicans needed.]

And if they don’t vote, well, they deserve him. Sad !

    • SoCalGal20

Not quite a Roy Moore situation in that IL-03 is safely Dem but, yes, he’s the only R running.

OT Super Bowl: ooh, Pink has definitely sounded better…

…but she finished quite a bit better than she started.

    • houstonray

She’s battling a terrible flu. There was apparently some drama earlier today that she might not make it. but yep, she finished much stronger.

      • Michael R

I heard her talking about her flu earlier today
and how she wanted to do this most of her life .

        • another_steve

For the money she’s getting paid for it, I would drag my bones out of my grave, dust off the maggots and perform the “Triumphal March from Aida” using my dead mother’s corpse as percussion.

In a 10-1 vote, Austin City Council passed a resolution on Thursday that prohibits the city from doing business with contractors employed to design, build, or maintain a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The border wall is not about keeping us safe,” Mayor Steve Adler told reporters on Thursday. “It’s a political symbol of fear and division.”

    • another_steve

      Interesting.

You called it a “resolution.” That’s probably not legally binding.

      • LesbianTippingHabits

This battle is not worth fighting. Protect the Dreamers even if it means giving Trump his wall.

Besides, if critics are correct, it will have no effect, so why not?

Remember, 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Just ask the Palestinians. Thank you.

        • another_steve

          Reasonable, but I’m still conflicted.

          “accommodation”

Didn’t work so well when the Brits tried it with Hitler… did it?

          • Dazzer

To be fair, part of the reason for the Brits going easy on Hitler in the earlier ’30s was to ensure they had time to build up their defenses.

          • LesbianTippingHabits

            And who is progressives/Democrats’ Churchill?

Feeding a crocodile in hopes that it will eat you last…

        • NowAnAgnostic

It will have an effect. An Indian Reservation that spans AZ and Mexico will be cut off. Migration of many animals between the US and Mexico will have a dire impact on those species. NO WALL.

          • Lars Littlefield

            NO WALL!!

          • LesbianTippingHabits

And no Dreamers living in the U.S., either.

          • NowAnAgnostic

That’s on the repukes then. Nice publicity for the repukes.

    • McSwagg

That won’t go over well with Governor “Wheels” Abbott. He’s on a tear to centralize all power into the hands of the state government. He demands “local control” from Washington, then denies the same local control within the state, especially to the more liberal cities.

  • another_steve

Ohmigod my husband tells me he’s sittin’ on the first quarter winning numbers in my nephew’s Super Bowl pool!!!

  • Cuberly Deux

So how long does this sports ball thingy tournament bowl stuff last?

Sheesh, the last time I made it through an entire football game I was drunk as hell out of pure boredom. I swear it was 4 hours long, 3 hours of brain killing commercials, 45 minutes of people yakking about stats and things and injuries and 15 minutes of ball play.

    • another_steve

You’re pure 100 percent fairy, just like me.

It *definitely* helps to be drunk, although pro football is still no-mans’ land

  • Acronym Jim

The irony of trying to discredit Steele’s field notes as propaganda by quoting from the Nunes memo.

    LOL!

    • billbear1961

But this is exactly what they’re going to do with any memos Nunes produces–treat them as gospel and use them to spread their propaganda and attack honest investigations. And the goddamned USELESS media will just LET them!

Media: “One side says this, the other the following.”

Well, media, do your FUCKING goddamned JOBS–look into the subject and tell us which side has the stronger argument and if/when someone is obviously LYING or deliberately distorting–taking things out of context–to spread disinformation!

  • Cuberly Deux

    Some GREAT news!

“The race for the seat held by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), who is being investigated by the FBI over alleged use of campaign funds for personal expenses, is a striking example of Democrats’ fundraising advantage.

Two Democratic candidates significantly outraised Hunter, who pulled in a paltry $52,000 for the fourth quarter. Retired Navy SEAL Josh Butner raised $107,000, while former Obama administration official Ammar Campa-Najjar brought in $172,000.”

    http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/372092-dems-build-fundraising-advantage-in-key-house-races

    • SoCalGal20

      My district! 🙂

Ammar has apparently motivated the Millenials so we’ll see how that works out come the primary in June. I’m obviously voting for whichever Dem makes it through the primary but Ammar has impressed me. I admit I haven’t met Josh Butner, though.

      • Cuberly Deux

Isn’t this like the 3rd campaign fund dipping scandal Hunter’s been involved in? The guys an entitled mess. Just like his right wing daddy.

Fingers crossed he gets turfed out. If anyone deserves to get the boot it’s him. Well, Hunter and Issa….of course.

        • SoCalGal20

Basically, he keeps using his campaign fund to pay for other things – some work on his house, a $600 plane seat for his children’s pet rabbit, $1100 in video games(?!) which he blamed on his son but to me sounds like some lame money laundering scheme, and so forth. He is currently being investigated.

          • Cuberly Deux

How does his son have access to his campaign credit card?

He’s doing as great of a job raising his kids as his dad did with him.

            The Beagles.

          • McSwagg

When I was in the Boy Scouts many years ago, our troop went to the annual summer camp. Each troop is subdivided into smaller groups that are named after animals. Two o f our groups were the Eagles and the Bears. Since not enough boys of either group went to camp that we had enough to compete in various activities, we combined into one group and called ourselves the Beagles. There were no other Beagles at camp that summer, though there were lots of Bears and Eagles.

      • greenmanTN

I don’t do sportsball either. I’m a gay man in East Tennessee who hates watching sports, likes old movies, paints and draws, and reads a lot. I figure even if my voice sounds like Charles Bronson I still might as well be wearing a dress.

And I’m not sure about the voice thing. All of the men I’ve ever known who complained most about “effeminate” men sounded like Sandy Duncan. We aren’t always the best judges of ourselves.

        • another_steve

I don’t need to tell you, greenman, that despite our occasional differences on this or that, I identify intensely with your “voice” and with your experiences, as you’ve recounted them on this blog.

I trust you know that, my friend.

Out of curiosity, did any of the players take a knee as what’s-her-name wheezed through the NA?

    • houstonray

Not that I saw. There was a story on the news earlier that the players had sort of all agreed that protesting was over with the season and wouldn’t continue into the Super Bowl.

Shame, I was hoping some would so Trump would have a meltdown. Of course now he’ll claim credit for them NOT kneeling in 3, 2, 1…

Long story short, he ended up calling her one of the words Joe doesn’t allow here after she rightfully pointed out that he’s a doormat who will fight against women’s reproductive rights but will never stand up for himself against the party who has made it clear he and his soon to be husband deserve no rights.

The way it was done Im okay with. He didn’t try to duet or interact. It was a proper tribute specially for Minn.

      • Ninja0980

Don’t tell that to the twitter lynch mob.

      • jimbo65

Yeah. When I read the earlier reports they made it sound like it was going to be interactive. From what I saw it was more of a projection of Prince. So it wasnt offensive as it could have been. So I’m okay with it too.

May have something to do, that, with your being a slut.

      • Nothing wrong with being a slut.

        • another_steve

I strive for it, truly. But I’m in my mid-60s and it comes to me haltingly these days.

Oh ye young and bouncing gay boys, enjoy these halcyon slut days of yours, while they still present.

      The British invented humor.

A thousand or two years ago.

      • safari

I saw a movie centered around the intrigue of the French court. At one point a member arrived back from Brittan. His compatriot asked if they have wit like the French. The courtier said, no, they have something called humor, which is not wit.

        • another_steve

I’m neither an historian nor a sociologist, but I sense there’s something in the British DNA that senses, profoundly, the human tragedy and the human comedy. Simultaneously.

          Ridcule (1996)

Courtier: Baron, how did you find the English?

Baron: Droll. They have a way of speaking they call ”hew-mah.’ ‘It makes them laugh enormously.

          C: Is it like wit?

          B: Not really, no.

C: What is it in French?

          B: It’s untranslatable.

          C: Don’t tease. Tell us!

C: Any talk that causes laughter must be a form of wit.

B: It’s not exactly ”wit.” We’ve no word for it.

          • Hue-Man

            Ridicule.
Haven’t seen it in years. Will have to rewatch during the Olympics drought.

          • safari

It starts with a man peeing on a now powerless member of the court out of revenge and then telling his nurse that he wet himself. I like that in an opening.

      • canoebum

I suspect it was the Romans who stayed in Britain who invented humor. You just don’t see any Druids doing stand up these days.

        • another_steve

I’m a lover of ancient Roman dry wit.

Some contemporary British authors – Robert Graves, for instance – recognized the gem there and created wonderful works that attempted to capture it in prose and theater.

    • jimbo65

Wasn’t bad. The whole Prince tribute wasn’t as sacrilegious as it was feared to be. But yeah, not the best halftime either.

  • DaddyRay

Overall I would say the half-time show was a success

  • JohnJay

Now that the halftime show is over, those who aren’t going to watch the rest of the game but need something to do while your SOs are still watching… here’s a fun way to hear a description of the Wagner’s entire 20 hour Ring cycle in a comedic 28 minutes.

Re : posts/discussion of the Nazis.

I don’t like to refer to the Nazis very often.
Of course I abhor everything they were about.
It’s just that I think in modern times by referring to the Nazis, as here in the current discussion, we are in danger of missing the general fascism that is going on.
I mean, if you mention Nazis everyone expects to see big red/white/black Nazi flags.
But it is the fascists like Gorka above, Bannon, Breitbart, Fox who are the fascists. They have a cover of respectability, they have civic tolerance but they are fascists without the flags and the paraphernalia. Even the GOP are fascists, completely undermining society’s boundaries and legal framework with their enabling treason in the electoral process, not only in their enabling Russia but also in gerrymandering constituencies.

    Not Nazis, but fascists

And that is why I prefer ‘fascists’……it is a broader church.

    • JCF

Perhaps…but I think the term “Nazis”—as the archtypical fascists—has much more emotional impact.

      • JackFknTwist

Sure. It’s just my personal way of writing about these pondscumers.

So today I’m alone in my bedroom as he watches this football game of his.

        🙁

        • JackFknTwist

The thing about “falling for a dancer” ( ie- in love) is that it is the best and the worst thing one can do. Maybe substitute “jock”……hmmmm, maybe a rugby player….but I digress !

I’m not being profound here, just wistful………and as for falling for an American as I did ……that’s like the seventh circle of hell.

Off topic, but I saw a re-run episode of “The Detour” last night and I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard at a TV show. It’s got to be the filthiest show on TV, which is fantastic! I see why that Christian Woman’s group is all up in arms about it. Well, Samantha Bee is a co-producer, and I love “The Might B”!

    • canoebum

I liked the son trying to explain his friend’s gender identity to his Dad.

      • ‘Til Tuesday

That was great when he kept saying “they” and trying to get his dad to understand. I know it’s totally redneck, but using the wine coolers instead of clay pigeons because they’re cheaper was hilarious. And the good ol’ boy seiguing into the discussion on what “non-binary” is was pretty funny.

I have yet to see an alligator in Florida.

    • JohnJay

You haven’t been looking very hard. Practically every inland canal of any size has them. Just need to look for something that looks like a dead log or two little eyes poking up out of the water.

      • safari

I haven’t really been walking along canals.

      • safari

Do you, like, ignore them, fear them, or play with them?

        • JohnJay

Most gators don’t walk away very far from the water… and I’m not very near any. There are canals that run through residential areas, and they have to worry about small dogs, etc. Many put a chain link fence between their back yard and the canal. Best to avoid them if you see them.

          • safari

My colleague fought off a gator that tried to eat her small dog. She went for is eyes and only has a scar on her thumb to show for it.

          • safari

This said, I kind of want to pet one.

      • safari

Isn’t that… weird? Like, just running into a living dinosaur on the way to Starbucks?

        • djcoastermark

Even more weird, is when you’re driving to work in the morning and traffic is backed up on a road due to an alligator in the middle of the road, and it’s being reported on the AM news traffic report.

          • safari

Don’t you just yell at it? Honk your horn? Slowly approach it with one’s car intimating running it over?

          • safari

(Do you think there’s a market for alligator removal sticks? I imagine them being like the snow brushes we need in the north, but meat flavored.)

          • djcoastermark

A gator in the road on a busy street brings traffic to a dead stop. Honking doesn’t faze them and trying to run them over results in a lot of damage to ones vehicle underneath. Just got to let them pass by on their own terms.

          • McSwagg

No, you call out the gator wranglers.

As I posted this story below, this was particularly foreseeable. This Nazi POS had run before. The Rethugs COULD have fielded another candidate, but this just didn’t give enough of a f#ck about it. Sucks to be you, Rethugs: Democratic ad possibilities!

I am hearing a lot of women screaming “Oh my God” outside my window, here in Philly.

Super Bowl. Brady got sacked and fumbled the ball. May have given up the game. Less than a minute to play, 41-33 Eagles.

      • Lumpy Gaga

  • safari

Does Philadelphia burn tonight? NPR informs me that they are one of the more violent teams. Their local PD would even grease lamp posts to prevent fans from scaling them and punching out the lights. (It didn’t work.)

Tina Fey’s “punching a police horse” thing last night was a reference to reality.

You’d risk the Monkey’s Paw-esk curse that would befall you if you bought them? I thought the idea (and joke) behind Cabin in the Woods was that we’re supposed to be smart enough to NOT pick up the completely-obviously cursed and/or possessed item or artifact of terribleness. Buying the tears of Tom Brady today and tomorrow kaiju destroy the Golden Gate. This is how horror movies start. “Hi honey, I bought and brought into our home the concentrated essence of pure evil in a vial. NO NO it’s totally fine, see? The manual dexterity there is amazing.

Some folks reading here may be familiar with the manual/digital dexterity of raccoons. Those boys can carefully and methodically unlatch and unhook things you think are beyond their abilities.

We had bird feeders that we carefully (or so we thought) fastened to supporting poles. Next morning, the feeders are gone. If we’re lucky we find them somewhere in the adjacent woods – where the raccoons take them, empty them and leave the remains behind.

    The search for Jackie Wallace
I’ve worked as a photojournalist for more than 35 years. During that time, serendipity has been my muse. In my experience, great journalism follows trails and doors left ajar, and the next big thing is usually just around the corner. My job is to be patient and pay attention. snip
I climbed the pier with my camera and made a few frames of the scene, then climbed down and woke him. He wasn’t startled in the least. I guess when you sleep under bridges, you learn to expect the unexpected.
He sat up slowly and cleared his head. I asked him if he knew anything about the homeless camp — if he knew what happened to the men.
“Yeah,” he said. “Teens driving by started shooting their guns at them, so they decided there had to be a safer place to live. Why do you ask?”
We talked for a minute or two, about my editor’s idea and journalism in general. After a brief pause, he said, “You ought to do a story about me.”
I’ve heard this line many times before, and many more since.
“And why would I want to do that?” I said.
“Because,” he said, “I’ve played in three Super Bowls.” snip

The name meant nothing to me, but I didn’t tell him that. We talked a little and I shot a few more frames, then thanked him for his time. I headed back to the newspaper office. More specifically, I rushed over to the sports department.
There were probably two dozen sports writers pounding out daily stories when I walked up. “Has anyone ever heard of a guy named Jackie Wallace?” I said.
Every head turned. An editor spoke first. “Of course,” he said. “He was a star at St. Aug, played for University of Arizona, and played for the Vikings, Colts and the Rams.”
And, sure enough, he had played in the Super Bowl — twice, not three times, as Wallace had told me, but that slight exaggeration mattered little to me.
“Once he was released from the Rams,” the sports editor said, “he dropped off the map. Nobody knows where he is now.” Snip
Jimmy’s story and my photos led the front page of The Times-Picayune on July 6, 1990. The public response was immediate and glorious.
Full story here. It is a long read but worth it.

Trixie Mattel just did a very good Dolly, on RPDR All-Stars 3 (and I’m not generally a TM fan. That thing w/ her eye make-up is weird.)

      • TuuxKabin

“cheap wig and stuffed bras.’ Love Our Dolly.

O/T: And they’re not thrilled with Engler as the interim president, either

I should note that the Governor Snyder can also remove trustees.

      • JCF

Governor Snyder can remove his gonads from his body. >:-( FFS, who’s running to replace this Flint-poisoning POS?

Hmmm, Aug. 7 primary: we got a Hillary Democrat (female), a Bernie Democrat (young Arab-American, but already spouting the “they’re out to get me” Berniecrat line }-/ ), and an Indian-American tech millionaire. It should be an interesting primary campaign…but PLEASE, Dems, you MUST unite to elect a Democrat! Rethug Snyder has been catastrophic!!! Vote Blue No Matter Who.

Go ahead and give now. Don’t wait until after primary. https://democraticgovernors.org/

Did I read correctly that Tom Izzo may be on the hot seat for the gymnastics mess at MSU? I wonder how he was involved?

      Drooolll..

    • Mikey

Nope, just knowing he’s one of those christer zealots is such a huge turn-off that the pic – hot under any other circumstances – is of absolutely no interest to me.

It’s weird, I always remember, from when I was younger, really never being attracted to any straight men.

    • Matt G, Rochester

In that position, some naughy bits are very missing… Poor thing, maybe his Jeebus can make it up to him.

  • Piet

Why is a disgusting, sententious, overstuffed liar like this even appearing on television, much less as a commentator worth hearing? His characterization of tRumpF alone, as being only concerned with our safety and success, would be enough for an indictment if he were to utter it under oath.

And add to it: The other team is active in (gasp) making local, inner-city schools better, lobbies government for increased criminal justice, and even the white dudes take a knee! Add to it: the owner of the franchise holds a doctorate– them there smart people– and the city they represent is like 6:1 Dems. Trust me: Trump hates Philadelphia and its team. Makes it even better than they won.

I’ll try to make this my final Super Bowl post. Any time that the Orange Piggy in the White House, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and Robert Kraft are all sad is a great day!

One day someone will thank Satan and all hell will break loose.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Yes, let him do Jesus. Fine, bummer as it is.

But the rest of the team pisses off Trump with a passion. And oh! does the GOP love them some Pats.

Couldn’t be happier than to be, live, and work in Philadelphia.

BTW, Boston is SO overrated as a “city.”

I retract my previous comments ! lol

    • Lumpy Gaga

Are they… taking a knee for Jeebus?

      • Oscarlating Wildely

There is a lot of Jeebus going on in football. As an ardent atheist I readily admit that it kind of creeps me out. But I have yet to hear anyone on that team note: “Philly won! It’s because some Christer loves Jeebus!” In fact, I never heard a thing about Jeebus the whole game. He wants to be into Jeebus, let him. We all have our imaginary friends.

But more: An Eagles win pisses Trump off to no end. And yea, that’s better than Jeebus.

        • Lumpy Gaga

Er, FIRST agent acknowledged by Coach and Understudy QB post-game was Jeebus. A later locker room press event between 11 and 11:30 apparently needed a “Lord’s Prayer” led by the Coach.

Less well-known players chimed in with their thoughts during interviews, too, such as ‘God had it already written down.’

Jeebus and football isn’t exactly news, and I don’t care much for either, but don’t tell me he wasn’t sprayed all over the place tonight like a popped bottle of champagne would have been in the old days.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I missed those. Still don’t care, though. I must have missed them as to me it’s white noise. The Christers want their imaginary friends, let them. Who cares? In no way, shape, or form will that zealous superstition have to with policy, and the latter concerns me far more than “I got a touchdown as my sky fairy likes me.”

          • Lumpy Gaga

            I missed those.

            And yet, they happened.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

OK, but still note: They’re passable. It’s superstition, like throwing salt over your shoulder or walking backward into a building or the sign of the cross. I probably wouldn’t care or notice that either. Same shit. Personal superstition, locker room superstition, test taking superstition, church pew superstition. They got their personal Jesus superstition. As long as it’s their personal thing and its about their own personal identity, even if it’s weird as shit, who cares?

          • joe ho

But it’s not. It’s not like throwing salt over your shoulder. It’s a comprehensive worldview. It bleeds over into their justification for limiting rights of gays and women. It’s insidious.

I’d call that close enough .

So, what he’s saying is: “I offer my tight end up to jeebus.”

Matthew 6:5. This is a good one to know.

        • JCF

Oh, thanks for the citation: I hadn’t even noticed that the graphic didn’t include it.

Episcopalians like myself tend to take what I’ve heard called the “Catholic approach to Scripture”: “somebody said somewhere.” Google has been (literally? ;-/ ) a godsend, for finding spot-on Bible quotes, when you can’t remember where TF they are exactly!

    • JT

Apparently, “making disciples” and drawing people to jeebus includes public nudity.

News to me that democrats were on their phones, playing candy crush at the SOTU.

    Keep up the good work.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Travesty! Sheer national embarrassment I say! How could they sink so low?

Candy Crush is so two years ago. Cool kids play Indie Cat Match 3 at least.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

Still recall this day. Wicked cool that they did this. And the “how ya doin?” refrain just made it that much better– and the fact that everyone got choked up.

OT: JMGers, pour one out, if you will, for Aranrhod (“silver wheel” in Welsh), my 2000 Ford Focus, whom the car haulers (on behalf of my local NPR station) come for tomorrow.

Her first 10 years in Michigan (only the last two there as mine) did her in (rusted engine-wise)…though that busted power-steering belt you see was the coup-de-grace.

Aranrhod and I had a lot of happy times together, both alone, and carrying around my friends (both in Michigan, and the last 8 years in Northern California). She brought me across country, was occasionally a roof over my head, and played a lot of great jams (woo hoo, my first car with a …wait for it… CD player! ;-/ ). Since I got the car in 2008, I’ll always associate her w/ Barack Obama (including taking me to see him in a rally in September ’08, in Battle Creek MI). She took me for GOTV in Jackson MI…and then to an old theater there, where we celebrated Obama’s VICTORY!!!! Ah, those were the days… Michigan snow&ice, California heat/drought—and flood: Arahrhod saw them all. Skiing and hiking trips, up and down the Sierra. Hauling my dad and me for our weekly Wednesday shopping excursions. Reasonably efficient w/ gas. Intuitive lay-out. Comfy seats.

She was a good car. To Aranrhod!
