FLORIDA: Trump Goes Golfing For 95th Time

The Palm Beach Post reports:

President Donald Trump arrived in Palm Beach Friday night with first lady Melania Trump and son Barron for a weekend at Mar-a-Lago. Air Force One landed at Palm Beach International Airport at 6:55 p.m. for Trump’s 12th presidential visit to Palm Beach. He’s expected to remain through Sunday night. Trump sent out two tweets en route to his golf course about increases in his approval ratings and claiming the controversial GOP intelligence memo alleging bias by the FBI and the Justice Department in the Russia vindicates him.

I watched Blade Runner 2049 a couple nights ago. If you havent seen it, you must, if only for the extremely beautiful cinematography and soundtrack

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I saw it. Did you mean to say, but only?

        • Stephen Elliot Phillips

if thats the correct grammatical way of saying it, yes

        • Strepsi

“if only” means it’s worth watching for those 2 things alone, everything else is icing on the cake; “but only” means it’s worth watching for those 2 things alone, but everything else is crap.

          • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

            Yes!

          • Strepsi

Hahaha, I do agree, and I am a huge fan of the original, that it was gorgeous and lovingly made in homage to it. But it just wasn’t that great as a new movie, and I agree with the critique it did not advance the use of women in its screenplay much – it was pretty straight-white-male sexist. Why on Earth was Jared Leto not a pleasure model android? That would queer the sexism and be perfect casting!

          • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Me too. After all the hype, I just expected too much I guess.

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Jared was a replicant? I just thought he was a blind human and those insectoid things he used were his “eyes”

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

well. BR 2049 was way better than Alien Covenant

      • jimbo65

I loved it. Cinematography was great. It was one of those movies that didn’t spoon feed you. Which is probably why it didn’t fare well at the box office

Queer history *does* exist, but as the link you provided also noted, our history has often been erased, altered, or hidden from public view, and it needs desperately to be reclaimed and publicly displayed.

OT – Hey, Joe. I’m flying today, so I started out in the Palm Springs airport and their wifi has something called Fortiguard, and lo and behold I find that JMG is blocked! Allegedly, because it’s a “political organization”. I filed a request that their classification of JMG be revised (but why would a “political organization” be blocked in an airport anyways?). Curiously, I checked Towleroad and Wonkette and they were not blocked.

Just thought you ought to know.

    • BearEyes

I’ve worked with Fortigard before. Their default list (tongue in cheek here) “blocks erring on the side of caution”.
They block by default many LGBTQ sites – just because – even just info sites (the porn part blocking I understand.
Blocking ‘political organisations’ is on their list.
You’ll need to petition the wi-fi owner who can adjust some sites on the list. Depending on their contract with Fortigard, they may need to work with Fortinet to change the list. Please contact the airport.
Joe will also need to show them this is a blog – not an organisation.
      [email protected]

btw – Fortinet makes a secure router that a number of organisations and businesses use. Fortigard is the software that runs on it. It has a good reputation of screening out hacker attempts and other ne’er do well crap.

I have thoughts on this which I think is awesome. I will reply again when I have more time

        • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

I’m atheist but respectful of others. My brother recently asked me to be the godfather to my niece (they’re not religious and know how I feel and are doing this to appease my mother). I said sure, I would be honored. When I called the church about the batptism class, they said come by on Sunday after mass but you have to attend the mass too. Ugh. But I went and listened closely to the readings and the homily which were very Jesus-y – about love, humility, helping the poor etc. and it occurred to me how far removed all these so-called Christians are from the teachings of Jesus. I’m ok with Jesus and I thought, what would Jesus think about trump or Paul Ryan or the GOP policies? Jesus would tell them the fuck off! He would chase them out of the church! . And they would kill him for it!

Anyway, regarding you’re meme. The Christian Left (and Jewish Left) used to be very politically active and a big force in this country. The anti-slavery movement, civil rights movement etc. not so much anymore. They’ve ceded their voices to the money changers, the hypocrites, the wolves who profit and steal in Jesus’ name. I think we as Liberals, progressives, Democrats need to welcome the Christian Left and help them find their voice again to preach the real teachings of Christ. The Christian Left must be part of our big tent and have a voice in policymaking. Jesus would be on our side — of that I’m sure Thanks for listening and sorry for typos

          • JCF

There’s always been a Christian Left, and there always WILL be a Christian Left. So why aren’t people—especially secular, progressive people—familiar with it? Because the ChristianIST (that is, pseudo-Christian—worshippers of White Jebus, not brown Jesus of Nazareth) Right is SO Loud, and SO Obnoxious (and usually: SO Evil!). There’s an expectation: if we Jesus-followers are actually different, actually Left, why aren’t we as Loud&Obnoxious, if not MORE so, than the Christianist Right?

I would say that (JMO) it’s a judgment call: that is, the believe that being Loud&Obnoxious is an intrinsic part of the problem, not just a neutral means of the message. The Christian Left has a much larger focus on how we live, and what we DO, as opposed to what we say. My faith tradition, the Episcopal Church, is about as (on average) left-leaning, and Democratic-voting, as you’ll find among various belief cohorts in the U.S. But if we’re not as loud as the Christianists, it’s because our focus is on modelling the Way of Jesus—and Jesus spent MOST of his time, speaking/living quietly w/ a small group of followers. And DOING the works of Justice&Love.

Anyway, this is all JMO. Good talkin’ to ya, bkb!

          • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

I’m Bryan by the way. I know what you’re saying. The Christian Right are all surface and no deeds . But they’re loud in proclaiming thier supposed virtue that the GOP cynically co-opted them. Meanwhile the Christian Left as a political force is all but forgotten. I hope the Democratic Party can make sure they feel welcome in the big tent because of their faith and not despite it. I think a lot of progressives want to move to a more secular basis for humanistic policy (which is understandable) but there is the danger of leaving behind a lot of liberal Christians who may be made to feel marginalized because their faith.

If so, let’s all send Trump some of their food.

          • CharlestonDave

I don’t eat at Chipotle, as a local chain called Moe’s does the same thing better. The latest Food Safety News includes such inspirational reports as:

—Jimmy John’s repeatedly sickening customers from salmonella in their alfalfa sprouts.
—Hep A at the Huddle House
—550 sick from norovirus at two Tacoma restaurants
—toddler dead from E. Coli in cheese
—salmonella-contaminated baby milk for over a decade
—dangerous shredded coconut in U.S. and Canada

And that’s just the first page.

            http://www.foodsafetynews.com/sections/foodborne-illness-outbreaks/#.WnYF8WbGzfA

So glad we have the current administration here to save us from excessive regulation!

Oh, and those with pets should know that 80% of raw meat-based pet food has been found to carry parasites or bacteria that can infect humans when your pet licks you or you handle the uncooked-meat pet food. The free side items include listeria, salmonella, e. coli, sarcocysts, and toxoplasmosis. Yum!

    • Also they eliminated the Personal Exemption ($4050) that was available to everyone. So “doubling” the standard deduction ($6350) actually means that they gave taxpayers – (using a single person as an example) a rise of $2300 in tax free income that will be offset by a rise from 10 to 12% of the tax rate for low income taxpayers. The Trump tax break is a FRAUD for low to middle class Americans. The lowest tax rate is NO LONGER 10% It is 12%! Isn’t that cute that they were able to get away with this — and CUT it for the super rich??? Oh,one more thing. If you use your car and keep track of your miles for doctor’s visits medical tax deductions they CUT that to $.23 a mile. After all, only slobs have to drive themselves to doctors, right?

      • Chef Philips

        Preach, Eddi!

        • I despise the kleptocracy — and Trump is the perfect figurehead! And I am still hearing “oh, Hillary was so dishonest” from stupid working class white people. What is their problem????

          • boobert

            You can’t fix stupid !

          • Ninja0980

Hillary’s problem was she was too honest and told some folks what they didn’t want to hear about some jobs being gone.
Trump made promises he had no intention of keeping while Bernie made ones he had no way of ever being able to keep.

      • William

        Do you have a website?

      • jerry

Worse: No one gets to claim unreimbursed employee expenses in 2018 (this was mainly a fuck-you to unions). So, everyone who has to travel for their jobs won’t be able to deduct the mileage, travel costs, union dues…

    • another_steve

One of the ways Republicans plan to pay for their massive tax breaks for the wealthy is by cutting Social Security.

Everyone needs to read this, especially people under age 50:

      http://news.groopspeak.com/republicans-announce-plans-for-drastic-cuts-to-social-security-raise-retirement-age-4/

      • Ninja0980

Yup but they’re waiting to do that and other things until 2019 and beyond when voters can’t punish them.

        • Todd20036

          Technically, that isn’t true.

There’s a reason a LOT of republicans aren’t running this year

    • boobert

I just had this argument this morning ! Hubby said his pension was going up. I told him it’s because the withholding went down and he will not get a refund and may even have to pay at tax time. Deception at it’s best !

      • William

Trump is not planning on being president next January.

    • William

The kicker will be the people who end up owing taxes next year. They won’t look at the slight rise in pay every month, only the surprise payment of $1000 to the IRS.

      • boobert

By that time , the ignorant will have voted in the midterms.

        • William

Not to worry, it will all be Obama’s fault.

I think America is bracing for the firing of Rod Rosenstein. Observers aren’t certain Trump has the balls for that, but some are saying it’s quite possible, even likely.

Jill Wine-Banks – a frequent contributor on MSNBC – noted this morning that MoveOn and other activist groups are planning massive demonstrations should Rosenstein be fired.

      Like…massive.

      • Ninja0980

Protests are nice, getting people to vote is even better.

        • another_steve

I predict two things and two things only will galvanize the progressive base to the point where there’ll be massive massive protests: Rosenstein and/or Mueller being fired, and a Supreme Court nominee from Trump, replacing Kennedy or one of the four liberals on the court.

I’m talkin’ hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people in the street.

          Like the Vietnam War protests.

    • JAKvirginia

Okay folks. Let’s get off the golfing shit, alright? Here’s the deal. FL is a “no income tax” state. I’m sure DJT has listed the Mar as his primary residence. Yes, he does not actually reside there a majority of the year, but FL law allows a variance if your “job” takes you out of state for extended periods. (Hey, he’s Prez, y’know?) He will continue to visit FL every weekend he can, or more, to prove his residency, AND… we the taxpayers get to foot the bill to get him there and back. And it’s all perfectly legal. It’s Donnie, kiddies. Follow the fuckin’ money.

OT – Some neighbors around here are shooting at their exploding targets again. These things shake the windows and scare the dogs. Some weekends it sounds like I live in Beirut.

    • PickyPecker

      No local ordinances against explosives?

      • William

Apparently not. There was a story on the local news about these last week. Someone was shooting them in a much fancier area. There were so many calls to 911 the sheriff’s department sent out a helicopter. Once they found what it was, they returned to base.

    • Tomcat

Sorry, I know how annoying that is, no peace on weekends.

I wish reporters or anyone else for that matter would repeatedly remind Donnie how, on the campaign trail, he emphasized more than once that he likely wouldn’t have time to be golfing because he intended to be doing presidential things like working in the White House.
