Carter Page’s 2013 Letter: Hi, I’m A Kremlin Advisor!

TIME Magazine reports:

Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page bragged that he was an adviser to the Kremlin in a letter obtained by TIME that raises new questions about the extent of Page’s contacts with the Russian government over the years.

The letter, dated Aug. 25, 2013, was sent by Page to an academic press during a dispute over edits to an unpublished manuscript he had submitted for publication, according to an editor who worked with Page.

“Over the past half year, I have had the privilege to serve as an informal advisor to the staff of the Kremlin in preparation for their Presidency of the G-20 Summit next month, where energy issues will be a prominent point on the agenda,” the letter reads.

Page is at the center of a controversial memo from Republican Congressman Devin Nunes, released this week. The Nunes memo claims that in Oct. 2016 the FBI improperly received court permission to spy on Page, whom Trump had named as an adviser to his campaign in March 2016.

    • Todd20036

It’s not entirely stupidity. Many people never thought Trump would win. And if he didn’t win, none of these investigations would occur, or probably would not have occurred.

In any case, we are seeing The Producers in real life, except instead of a broadway show, it’s an election for POTUS

  • Friday’s_cat

Did Page register as working for a foreign government when he took the advisor job in 2013?

  • So Nunes & Donald are trying to claim that Carter Page—a man Donald and his goblin cult have previously declared had nothing to do with his campaign, but is basically the bucket-behatted poster-boy for 100% legit FISA warrants based on behavior going back at least to 2013—was illegally surveilled and therefore any evidence derived from that surveillance should be inadmissible in court and any investigation related to or making use of the resulting intel needs to be shut down immediately.

Or to put this more briefly, anybody asking why Donald cares about a guy who he’s said was basically just a covfefe boy and never actually involved in the presidential campaign, the transition or the administration afterwards?

And Nunes never read the documents, Gowdy did, and Gowdy told Nunes and his staff what was in them. And then stable genius Nunes uses his enormous brain and farts out four pages of absolute horse shit that concludes by admitting that the Russia investigation kicked off after Papadopoulos drunk bragged about the campaign’s collusion to the Australian diplomat in London and NOT due to the intelligence agencies following bottom-tier prep school dropout Page. My best Grandma story ! The power went out while grandpa was at work and everything thawed in the freezer. She was scared to tell him so she went ahead and cooked a roast. My uncle went over the next day and saw this note on the door.

      • BJORN RAGNVALDR

I bet you’d be great at organ meats…🤔

      • Sam_Handwich

it’s not so much a sickness issue as a quality/texture issue. a chuck roast would probably be fine treated like that. or other meat cuts that you intend to cook for a long time. but i’m not sure about organ meats either. and i wouldn’t do that to chicken or fish

        • Anne Mckinney-page

You are correct about not refreezing liver. It is the softest, and most water laden of the organ meats… and it would become leathery if refrozen, and then cooked.

End of Titus Andronicus (that’s means there’s spoiler lol)

The next day, during the feast at his house, Titus asks Saturninus if a father should kill his daughter when she has been raped. When Saturninus answers that he should, Titus kills Lavinia and tells Saturninus of the rape. When the Emperor calls for Chiron and Demetrius, Titus reveals that they have been baked in the pie Tamora has just been eating. Titus then kills Tamora and is immediately killed by Saturninus, who is subsequently killed by Lucius to avenge his father’s death. Lucius is then proclaimed Emperor. He orders that Saturninus be given a state burial, that Tamora’s body be thrown to the wild beasts outside the city, and that Aaron be buried chest-deep and left to die of thirst and starvation. Aaron, however, is unrepentant to the end, regretting only that he had not done more evil in his life.

  • OT- Do not listen to the MSM & Drudgery propaganda about Trump “making up a 10 point different in popularity” and the “huge Trump wave”. Trump still has a 14 point disapproval margin in the 538 average of polls after a very good January. Any additional “oscillation” is bound to be temporary. I expect Trump to go back to an adjusted average approval rating in the mid-high 30’s which appears to be his low base in the next few weeks (the Dow just lost 2.5% of its value for example). And folks, do not fall for progressive hysteria — just because one poll may show approval at 32% does NOT mean that level of approval is accurate nor sustainable. These are still terrible numbers for any President. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?ex_cid=rrpromo

Um yea, this Justice For Janet thing trending right now is STUPID.
As I’ve said before, if folks want to get mad at the fact much of the backlash ended up being against her when Justin and others were in on it too, won’t get an argument from me.
But this notion so many are pushing that she’s some victim and the Justin Timberlake is evil is getting old and should NOT be part of the Me Too Movement.

    • Treant

One person “forgot” to put on the red bra. That person was not Justin Timberlake. I do not believe that Justin was there physically forcing Janet to not put on the bra.

Janet made her own decision, broke the rules knowingly, and is the one whose fun bag got flashed on TV.

(rant) This completely disempowers as an entity and renders her, in the square of decision-making, as if a completely incompetent child. If anything, Me Too should be screaming for Janet to be held responsible for her actions as a “strong, capable woman.” Instead, they’re saying that an intentional transgression she made is not to be held against her…but against the man dancing with her.

Fuck that shit. There’s a slippery slope that ends with Janet having to clear her gynecological appointment results with the Republican party and this “not my fault” bullshit needs to stop. Accept responsibility for what you do and realize that, in times like this? It really is your fault and in the case of that show, the question “what was she wearing?” is very, very applicable.

(To block me and have me block you for that statement and to agree that you should have no power to make your own decisions nor be held responsible for your actions, enter “Yes” below. If you wish me to punch your misogyny ticket to show off at the next meeting, mention that and I’ll be happy to do so).

As I said on another site.

It was her gig, her stunt and and if JT had come forth like a white knight in shining armor to shield this totally independent in control strong as hell black woman who needed no man, even more damage would have been done to the persona that Janet had marketed for 2 decades.

          • Lazycrockett

            Oh and Damita Jo sucked.

        • Treant

(Frankly, I’m not seeing this section of the Me Too movement as anything but an opportunity for yet more of the loony left…the Loony Feminists, in this case, to have a say. That’s going to cost them.

It’s very fortunate that the loony continent of any group always goes too far and never has any of their ideas enacted. Otherwise, as per posts here, I’d already be hung just for being white and male; they have no interest in justice or law).

            Don’t placate. It’s never enough.

If you need to deal with them later, simply leave…and never apologize, they’ll go further the next time.

If you don’t give a fuck, punch their victim ticket so they get more extreme and eventually melt down. Leave and never see them again.

          • Ninja0980

            Indeed.
I’m glad more victims are being heard but this guilty until proven innocent and lynch mob mentality for anyone who dares to point out that some of these accusers (like a couple of the James Franco ones) have red flags in their stories crap needs to go.
If nothing else, crap like this is how liberals do make conservatives jobs easier for them in bashing the women’s right movement.

          • Treant

I gave up on it in college. For having most of the bad arguments it has today, I might add, like this one.

It’s also interesting to note that it’s stuck in about the same place as it was when I was in college. I can’t say that embracing those extremist ideals has anything to do with that, but it sure kept me from bothering with them (and frankly, if you go on a “men bad, suppress them” rant, I will never meet with you one on one behind a closed door…and will never grant you enough power to harm me).

Something belike. One, don’t spell it “Womyn” or I simply laugh at you.

Two, don’t dismiss me for being a male, a la Malcolm X’s refusals of help.

Three, don’t be backstabbing…whatevers, as you noted.

And so on, and so on…

          • Ninja0980

I was in college during the Duke Lacrosse scandal.
The fact so many folks were willing to ignore red flags (a DA going on 50 plus interviews declaring guilt in the first three days), police tampering with the line up etc. because the accused were rich white guys when they rightfully when have been calling this out if had been poor people of color was something that boggles my mind.
We all know the justice system has failed POC and victims of assault too many times to count but railroading innocent people isn’t the way to avenge that.

      • Helen Damnation™

Wait, is this about Janet showing one of her nipples? I see men with bigger breasts showing their nipples on TeeVee and on family-approved YouTube videos all the time. What is the big fucking deal about nipples? Talk about a fucking god dam double standard. Goddammit.

        • Ross

          Her nipple was never exposed.

        • Treant

No, if you look above, this is about Janet lying about the red bra thing and refusing to apologize. She never actually showed a nipple, anyway.

And it’s not about double standards; double or not, they’re there and there were real-world consequences for violating them. Which she chose to do.

You can break any law or rule you want…if you’re willing to pay the price. She wasn’t.

          • Ninja0980

Yup and it behooves her and others to make Justin the bad guy instead of acknowledging her role in it.

          • Ross

            Janet DID apologize.

          • Treant

Eventually. After great pressure. Long after Justin. And frankly, in Janet fashion, it was…rather lackluster.

      • Lazycrockett

Also people want to forget that Justin went on the Grammy’s and apologized while Janet refused to and thus got her music appearance cancelled.

        • Helen Damnation™

          Becuz she wouldn’t apologize? Fuckers!

          • Lazycrockett

Well enough shit had gone down that Janet and her team knew it was just going to get worse. Refusing to play with corporate didn’t win her any favors.

        • Treant

          Saint she ain’t.

        • Ross

          But Janet DID apologize.

          I wish she had not.

          • Ninja0980

Neither of them should have had to.

      • Ross

I remain amazed that people buy the whole “wardrobe malfunction” story.

IMO, there is no doubt that what happened was SUPPOSED to happen. And Janet and JT were in on it. Neither though expected the attendant fury.

NOTE: Her nipple was never exposed.

        https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d81077a43c10553b99db36f67e92125f49ca1109367fc28118a9d6a3285309f2.png

        • Treant

I tend to agree. This was intended to push the boundaries and the “forgot” the bra story was made up later to cover for it.

And she pushed them too far and got slapped for it. Now she’s supposed to be some sort of feminist hero for exposing her cans? Frankly, if that’s the best they can do, their standard is far too low.

          • Ninja0980

I agree and I was glad to see Yashar and Bette Milder get called out for this.
When some of us worry the Me Too Movement will go too far and hurt true victims, this is what we are talking about.

          • Treant

Oh, Justin’s not a victim. I’m quite sure he was in on all this.

But it wasn’t his bra that didn’t get put on, and he didn’t flash anything banned on TV to the audience.

          • Lazycrockett

I don’t even know if its the Left, I think its more Justin haters who have been bitching and moaning bout the white boy playing funky music for years.

          • Treant

The loonies are certainly not restricted to the left, but these are the current ones on the bandwagon. They seem unduly composed of “men suck” “feminists” (they’re not feminists, to co-opt their vocabulary, they’re gyno-fascists).

          • Ninja0980

That is a large part of it as well.

          • BJORN RAGNVALDR

Um, I’m sorry but, Janet Jackson, Ms. Jackson (as i am instructed to address her), a Jackson, did not have control of the narrative? She just did not expect the narrative to get pulled out from under her.

          • Treant

Not what I said. As soon as other people started to speak, she very quickly disclaimed any responsibility. In Republican-Speak, too.

Other people get to have their own narratives on public happenings. That’s the way it goes. The narrative was not “pulled out” from under her. unless you’d like to argue that she is the only one allowed to comment on her artistic (or lack of it) performance? That’s not how it works.

She lit a trash fire and fanned it, then acted all “not my fault” when called on it. It showed an amazing lack of foresight.

        • Lazycrockett

I always hit the dance floor with my high energy dance routine with a 3 lb nipple ring attached to my chest.

          • Ross

            Doesn’t everybody?

          • safari

With a 3lb nipple ring, I imagine your nipple will also be hitting the floor.

    • Ross

Bette, I have adored you passionately since 1972.

      But the whole Janet thing?

      I didn’t care 14 years ago. And I don’t care today.

WHY did America freak out because a boob was seen for less than a second?

      A boob!

OMG! THE WORLD IS COMING TO END!

But a beautiful boob is seen for a mini-second and the world explodes.

I wonder why they didn’t endorse the woman running for Governor in Idaho (not MT…oops). She’s pro-choice – at least, I assume so based on the fact she was a speaker at the Women’s March – I guess they have determined she doesn’t have a realistic chance of winning, but you never know in a wave election like this.

      • SoCalGal20

Maybe Emily’s List didn’t endorse her? I’m a little annoyed at them right now for pushing Sara Jacobs into the race in CA-49 because they just HAVE to have a woman running in that district even though there’s already a stacked field. She just announced in like November and when I looked at the FEC filings for year end 2017 she was leading in fundraising. She gave herself over $1 MILLION to fund the campaign. The state Dem convention should be interesting.

        • Ninja0980

Emily’s List has some flaws, and the need to have a woman in every race is one of them.
I still remember them endorsing Donna Kim in 2014 Hawaii primary for the 1st District.
That despite the fact Kim was and still is an anti-LGBT bigot.
I know that in some cases you have to grit your teeth and go with a conservative Democrat but not in a solid blue district.

OT: I’d ordered some soapmaking supplies from Amazon, and some nice guy sent me a gift through Amazon of a second soap loaf mold. Thanks, whoever you are!

Also, the eBay seller from whom I bought a pre-owned stick blender described it as having been used only once, but when I received it, it looked to me like it’s been used more than once, with nicks and scratches all over the handle and shaft that weren’t obvious in the photos. I wonder what the hell he/she used it on only once that resulted in the damage. I probably don’t have a case, but it’s pretty odd. That said, however, it works just fine.

OT: I’m watching bits of “The Nineties” on CNN right now and I’m a bit angry. I seem to remember that Sean Hayes did NOT come out as gay until much later in his life, after Will and Grace ended. And, when they interview him in the series, he makes it sound like he was out and politically active and was “part of” the gay community. I seem to recall the only community he was part of was the closeted one. I’m a bit angry right now because of the way he’s taking some kind of “stolen valor” for the work of others. It’s weird and very unsavory.

    • Natty Enquirer

Yeah, he sort-of came out in 2010, four years after Will & Grace ended its run. I first saw him in Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss in 1998 and just assumed he was gay as a spring bouquet.

      • Dazzer

I think the accepted phrase is: “as gay as an Ungaro spring frock”.

Oh yeah i forgot meg went through a evangelical phase.

Sarah sanders is meg griffin as a adult.

          • Bryan

I thought Meg was supposed to have undergone gender reassignment as an adult and goes by Ron.

Stewie and the dog have some ‘splainin to do

          • Treant

Technically, Stewie destroyed that timeline by stopping himself from having that near-death experience.

Although Meg still met Ron, we can’t definitively say that things ended the same way…

          • Bryan

            this is quite true.

          • Bryan

Then since Hollywood being Hollywood and running out of ideas, they’ve since effed with the timelines and space-time so frequently are we sure they’re even still in their proper universe or are they doing the Rick and Morty thing now?

Given all those episodes….AND their penchant for retroactive-references in later seasons I’m really surprised that there hasn’t been an episode addressing this since. Then you wonder if Stewie is aware of the Meg-Ron thing from finagling about in the future even if he wouldn’t have memories of the alternate timeline.

            I’m overthinking this.

          • Treant

Technically? There is only one universe in Family Guy…and Stewie created it. Any other “universe” is a temporary spur off this one with different events that is erased when those events are changed.

The spur can influence the main universe, but cannot exist separate from it.

          • Bryan

That’s right I forgot that he and Brian accidentally created the universe/multiverse in the first place. Sheesh, and that’s from an episode from before I stopped watching too…. I’ve shamed the spirit of Paul Lynde

        • Treant

Like Bryan noted, canon is that Meg becomes Ron. Chris becomes a cop.

But Stewie changed that timeline, so none of that may be true. Although Meg then met her inspiration, Ron, in the timeline Stewie started as well, so…

What touches Page–and nothing illegal was done to obtain the warrants to permit law enforcement to keep him under surveillance–has no bearing on all the other MANY aspects of the Mueller investigation.

Let’s find out why Trump and the GOP are so TERRIFIED of this investigation, WSJ. What is Trump so DESPERATE to hide, and why are the GOP aiding and abetting him? Do you suppose it could have anything to do with his many connections to GANGSTERS? You know, the information you had obtained on that very subject but refused to release in an editorial you decided not to print at the last minute, an act which caused several of your journalists to leave the paper in DISGUST.

An Unparalleled War On Law Enforcement

New York Times: “The war between the president and the nation’s law enforcement apparatus is unlike anything America has seen in modern times. With a special counsel investigating whether his campaign collaborated with Russia in 2016 and whether Mr. Trump obstructed justice in 2017, the president has engaged in a scorched-earth assault on the pillars of the criminal justice system in a way that no other occupant of the White House has done.”

“In his telling, that bureaucracy, now run by his own appointees, is a nest of political saboteurs out to undermine him — an accusation that raised fears that he was tearing at the credibility of some of the most important institutions in American life to save himself.”

Washington Post: Once the party of law and order, Republicans are now defiant.

    https://politicalwire.com/2018/02/03/unparalleled-war-law-enforcement/

I do not know how much more proof Americans need that this corrupt regime and the equally corrupt GOP aiding and abetting it are subverting the rule of law and that therefore any legitimate authority they could once have laid claim to to govern in a genuine democracy is forfeit. Their recklessly dangerous, deplorable behaviour–their desperation–makes their guilt obvious. Innocent people do not behave like this. If the truth and the rule of law are not defended as relentlessly and aggressively as the fascists in this country push their lies, the Republic, our democracy, is finished.

Americans cannot wait until compromised elections this November to defend the rule of law.

Frontline, NY Times, WaPo, others–call out Hannity and the rest of the right-wing LIE machine–including the WSJ–for their relentless efforts to undermine the rule of law! Stop allowing them to undermine this democracy with absolute impunity! Decry their betrayal of this republic!

      • Cuberly Deux

My most fave Kahn scene. She was so underrated as an actor.

Playing a vampish character, a stereotype. But, Kahn shines, she makes her character so much more after this small moment.

          It’s a great scene.

My inner nerd is demanding that I mention that Blazing Saddles is an almost direct remake of the Jimmie Stewart/Marlene Dietrich movie Destry Rides Again, And Madeline Kahn is parodying Dietrich. The original movie also has comic touches and is very good.

Young Frankenstein is also a remake of sorts, of Son Of Frankenstein.

Thank god I got that out of my system!

Nice to she hasn’t changed one bit since then.

Rauner is also running from his heavy endorsement of Greitens for governor of Missouri.

      • Ninja0980

Have to agree with you on the Berniebrats.
The sad thing (they don’t see it) is they have points against Cuomo and his propping up of DINOS whom have helped Republicans keep our state Senate in their hands.
But since they call everyone who won’t worship St.Bernie a DINO, their calls on the Independent Democratic Conference(IDC) fall on deaf ears.
And thus allow Republicans to keep control.

unless one sells state secrets or buys influence from a country like Russia, what is the problem with people having in depth contact and communications? There is still a left over russia thing lingering in the minds of paranoid americans. No one is out to get ya unless the idea of competition only works between you Macdonalds and the burger king.

No one is out to get ya unless the idea of competition only works between you Macdonalds and the burger king.

And this has jack shit to do with Trump’s Russian moneylenders and probable money laundering operations, and Putin’s attempts to destabilize democracies with bots and fake news.

    • Halou

It goes so far beyond that though. The promise, since partially fulfilled, to abandon sanctions policy against Russia is not mere ‘communications’.

Neither was the plan to set up a new direct hotline to the Kremlin in the Russian embassy using Russian equipment to bypass American regulations that require any diplomatic hotline have a recording device and members of relevant intelligence agencies present to assess any data given and received. A means of contacting the Russians that is so far beyond normal protocol the question of “why?” comes to mind.

Hiring Carter Page, Mike Flynn, Paul Manafort, etc… all known to be Kremlin agents, suspicious at best but coupled with the fact that precisely no people known to be agents of influence working on behalf of, say, the EU were hired… again, going out of one’s way to reflect the interests of another nation in terms of military posture and foreign policy is not mere ‘communication’.

Starting diplomatic incidents with every nation except Russia despite having many opportunities to take aim at Russia…

Intentionally failing to raise cyber defenses as American allies raise theirs, in fact accusing them of being hysterical about the whole thing at the same time as Russian state owned media… accuses them of being hysterical about it…

Handing the Russian ambassador allied intel that led to the death of an Israeli asset in Syria, and handing over intel that has angered and compromised the operational effectiveness of American allies… So, when is Poland going to be given all the data that the US has on it’s new Russian friends? What with “contact and communication” being what you seem to think it is.

      • Halou

Oh, and this time last year when Trump ordered his staff to investigate what form of intervention can be carried out against Poland for their invasion of Belarus?

        http://www.politicususa.com/2017/02/04/trumps-white-house-thinks-poland-invaded-belarus.html

A policy action from the Trump regime, not a simple form of ‘communication’.
