Media Kicked Out Of RNC Winter Meeting After Trump Calls Them “Haters” (Meeting Held At His Own Hotel)

Politico reports:

Media was escorted out of the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting today just as President Donald Trump labeled them “haters” and criticized coverage of his State of the Union address. “Did anybody not see the State of the Union? ‘Cause even the haters back there gave us a good review,” the president said at the meeting, which was held at Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.  As Trump bashed the media — about 5 minutes into his speech — those covering the event were escorted out and a live feed was dropped.

    • David Walker

One hopes it will soon be a thud, him falling to the floor, clutching his chest (we know he doesn’t have a heart) and thinking another Big Mac and Diet Coke will take the pain away. It may make me a horrible, terrible person, but I’ve always liked Jerry Falwell’s death. He was an even worse person and he died…alone, although heralded and admired and sucked up to by so many people…alone, in his office, and discovered too late to do anything. I know that repeating an act is bad programming, but still…there’s something appealing that the fucking moron should die like the other fucking moron.

      • another_steve

As coroner, I must aver, I thoroughly examined Mr. Falwell. And he’s not only merely dead, he’s really, most sincerely dead.

    • another_steve

Ryan and the traitor General Kelly have fully gone over to the Dark Side.

Any and all suggestions that they are honorable men have now been disproved.

    • Chef Philips

If I believed in faeries and unicorns, I might also think this was all part of a huge, well-though-out scheme to dismantle FISA (which I would support). There is no place in America and our constitutional law that allows “secret” Article III courts to issue “secret” warrants against anyone. Full stop.

      • olandp

All warrants are secret until they aren’t. If they were public it would give the subjects the opportunity to destroy evidence before they could be served.

        • Chef Philips

Not only speaking about warrants, but about the whole FISA process, which is riddled with unconstitutionality of the highest and most serious types: secret hearings, secret orders, secret membership, it’s all fucking secret.

[Edit: And those “secret” processes are funded by our taxpayer $$$, which adds insult to injury.]

          • olandp

I agree that something needs to be done about FISA, but what would be a workable solution.

Secrecy is always bad, kind of like your comment history…

          • Chef Philips

I was not aware my comment history had somehow become secret–I will need to check that.

The only workable solution I can see is to strike down (or repeal) the Patriot Act.

[Disqus is so fuqued up, it will not allow me to change any parts of my profile. If I uncheck the box for “Private,” Disqus will not allow me to save.]

          • olandp

Sorry about that, a private comment history is the first clue to a troll, and I do spout off sometimes…

I am in full agreement with you about the so-called “Patriot Act”. There is nothing patriotic about it.

          • Chef Philips

Thank you for letting me know my comments had somehow become “Private,” olandp! 🙂

No need to apologize, because I generally agree about “private” comment histories.

Put it bluntly, as long as the media continues to do both sides and treats stories about Hilary from ten years ago with more outrage then what Trump is doing now, the members of the media being outraged don’t bother me as much.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Again, I have to ask: how is it a people who once fought a revolution against an arrogant, corrupt King can’t seem to muster more than protestations now? Why isn’t this monarch wannabe not already being dragged out of the White Trashed House, along with his administration cronies and being led to the guillotine or gallows?

    It’s rhetorical, but just.

    • David Walker

It’s not rhetorical. A while ago I suggested that many of us are ready to get going, to do something, to grab our version of the trailer trash Tiki torches and pitchforks and take to the streets, crash the capitol, take over the government, get the country back in the right direction. As good Murkins, though, nobody wants to be first. We’re all waiting for George to do it. There is no George. We need a leader and we’re so inert yet full of gas, so desirous of change but so deeply divided among ourselves, that no George is emerging. Nor is he likely to emerge. (Sorry for the sexist name. “Let George do it” is just an old expression. I’d be happy to let an Irene or a Joan lead the way.) I mean, who needs the abuse? Not just from the opposition, but from your own supporters because they disagree with a certain point in your declaration. The coup leaders are considerably less than perfect; why do we insist that our person be pure? Why can’t we get off our asses and set things right? No matter who’s been in charge, this country has never been perfect. Do we really need perfection to get us back to some semblance of normal?

  • Rex

    O/T: Trump’s tax scam.

The new withholding formulas which the Trump WH mandated employers implement STAT (whatever happened to letting business get a round tuit?) really will fuck a lot of people up April 2019. I just did some quick back-of-the-envelope calcs based on my first paycheck of 2018, and for the first time in my life, I’m gonna have to cut a check to Uncle Sam by tax day (2019).

So even if there’s a blue electoral tsunami 11/18, there’s going to be a lot of tax pain starting 8 weeks later.

    Tax pain == GOP popularity.

    • Lumpy Gaga

(And let me note: I’m having $1300/year held withheld voluntarily on top of the tax formula. I’m still gonna owe).

    • The_Wretched

Behind all the noise today and yesterday was a Trump statement to look for a bigger paycheck thanks to the tax bill!! (eleventy). The hidden part of was that it wasn’t a tax it. It was a reduction in withholding. All that means is more people are going to owe tax than get a refund vs the past. It’s literally using people’s money to 1.pull forward spending and 2. increase econ hardship after the 2018 election happens.

I think I managed to stay calm explaining it to my teen but i’m not sure.

      • William

Seriously? I haven’t even thought about 2018 taxes yet.

        • The_Wretched

You might want to play close attention to your likely tax burden vs what they take out via HR.

          • William

It’s almost like Trump isn’t planning on being in office next January. The Trumpeteers freakouts will be epic. I’ll have to take a lawn chair to Walmart and watch the folks having their taxes done at the Jackson Hewitt table.

    • My first paycheck went up $14 dollars compared to before the tax scam (bill).
      Great, $14 a check (I get paid bi-monthly), so that’s $28 a month.

And Fuck No, I’m still not voting R.

      • Lumpy Gaga

And the amount of that $14 that’s due to new withholding guidelines (as opposed to new rates in the law) could bite you in the ass at the end of the year.

        • Chef Philips

Let me guess: Seventeen Dollars ($17)

      • Paula

I got $9.42 in my paycheck. $18.84 a month. What am I gonna do with all that money?

        • William

Buy a new car or get your kitchen remodeled!

          • Paula

Do you think they might finance it for 1197 months?

    • Stogiebear

The government needs to stop payment on all invoices from Dump, its properties/businesses and do a clawback of everything that has been paid to one of its entities with the exception of its salary. Grab that back into the Treasury before it has a chance to spend, waste, or hide it. Bankrupting the nation will be down the road sooner that we know it.

OT – Again, for reasons that are in NO way related to this story.

A;examder Myasnikov claimed that Stalin’s insanity stemmed from his advanced
cerebral atherosclerosis, the hardening of the arteries in the brain.
According to Myasnikov, this degenerative brain illness affected
Stalin’s decision-making and contributed to his paranoia and increasing
    ruthlessness throughout the years.

One excerpt from Myasnikov’s diary states:
The major atherosclerosis in the brain, which we found at the
autopsy, should raise the question of how much this illness—which had
clearly been developing over a number of years—affected Stalin’s health,
his character and his actions. [ . . . ] Stalin may have lost his sense
of good and bad, healthy and dangerous, permissible and impermissible,
friend and enemy. Character traits can become exaggerated, so that a
    suspicious person becomes paranoid. [ . . . ] I would suggest that the
cruelty and suspicion of Stalin, his fear of enemies . . . was created
to a large extent by atherosclerosis of the cerebral arteries. The
country was being run, in effect, by a sick man.
