ALABAMA: Televangelist Qualifies In Gubernatorial Race reports:

Evangelical preacher Scott Dawson sent in his qualification papers to run for governor as a Republican during an appearance Thursday on the “Rick and Bubba Show.” Dawson, who announced in the summer that he would seek the state’s highest office, has been a friend of the show, and co-host Rick Burgess vouched for the Birmingham-based preacher’s integrity on the air.

Dawson filed electronically, paying the more than $2,400 qualifying fee online as Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill joined him in the “Rick and Bubba” studio in Vestavia Hills. The gubernatorial candidate said he was running on a platform of putting morality back in the governor’s mansion, alluding to the downfalls of former Govs. Robert Bentley and Don Siegelman.

  • David Walker

So he puts his hand on the Constitution and swears to uphold the bible. Bidness as usual.

    • JCF

…whatever his Christianist preacher tells him about the Bible.

      • CottonBlimp

When he *should* be listening to your preacher tell him the Bible’s all about democracy and gay marriage, right?

        • JCF

          OK, serious answer:

If you value the Bible in your life—and I make no judgments on *that* question—one SHOULD

          1) Read It For One’s Self
          2) In conjunction w/ Biblical scholars who can tell you things (historical, rhetorical, contextual) that aren’t readily apparent in the text itself (including whether one has a decent translation of said text!)
          3) In dialogue w/ others who have read the text. Because we all need more opinions than are just in our own heads, to challenge&develop our opinions further. Lather, rinse, repeat.

To the best of my ability, that is what I have done (Yes, undoubtedly influenced by a lifetime of Episcopal preaching). And this is just MY take. Does the Bible endorse U.S.-style representative democracy, and more recent marriage equality? No. Does it condemn them? Absolutely not. Are U.S.-style representative democracy, and more recent marriage equality consistent with the canon of Scripture, including the “Old” (Hebrew) and New Testaments? Yes. I believe they are. HTH, pax et bonum!

‘The gubernatorial candidate said he was running on a platform of putting morality back in the governor’s mansion, alluding to the downfalls of former Govs. Robert Bentley and Don Siegelman.’
In other words, he will try to do a better job than his predecessors of keeping his mistress, various prostitutes, live boys and dead girls from being discovered.

    • Scott Fitler

10 to 1 he was sitting on a buttplug and wearing women’s panties while doing the interview.

      • Jon Doh

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. 🙂

        • Rambie

No there isn’t, just be honest about it.

    • Frostbite

Isn’t it funny how we’re all thinking the same thing? How is it we learn from their lessons and they don’t?

    • Robincho

You had me at “live boys”…

    • Renfield

NO NO NO!!! How dumb can you be. He meant the stripper Morality Sprinkle. I mean, c’mon, guys.

  • JustDucky
  • bkmn

Hey Alabama, you might want to make sure he releases his tax returns.

    • The scum is a Telescamvlist, he don’t pay no stinkin’ taxes.

  • safari

I wonder what we are going to find in his closet.

  • Treant

Welp, since he hasn’t been kicked off the court twice and wasn’t caught stalking little girls in a mall, you just met your new Governor, Alabama.

These things are why I think of you as a shithole state.

    • Sheila Snow-Croft

We have plenty of shitholes here, clearly, but a lot of us just worked our asses off to elect Doug Jones so ease off the stereotypes please.

      • Treant

(tugs sleeve) No. You barely elected a decent fellow against a twice-dismissed judge who fucks children. Barely.

Nearly half of your population did not care that Moore fucked kids. With “shithole,” I was being kind.

        • Sheila Snow-Croft

Nearly half of this country elected tRump. We are on the same side. Being a dick isn’t terribly proactive.

          • Treant

(tugs sleeve) We were discussing your state, not the tendency of all the red states to cheat the rest of us out of our stuff. You guys still came very close to electing a man who fucks children in your shithole. Deflection doesn’t work on me.

Also, it’s interesting to note that the analogous word to “dick” is blocked here, so I’ll simply advise you that I’m blocking you but will C U Next Tuesday at the bike hunt.

    • Robincho

‘Bama. She come in last on most indices, save for the alphabetical listing of them
yew-natted states. She FIRST on that one, unh-hunh…

      • Treant

And some of the young men are cute until they start losing their teeth at 25.

    • olandp

Oh well, they keep the ACLU in business.

  • Lars Littlefield

That thar Scott Dawson has a face of a child molester. He’s shoe in for Alabama guvner.

  • Frostbite

  • DreadPikathulhu

It’s open season for scammers and grifters with a television, radio, or Internet presence to run for office. If it worked for DJT with his decades-long record of malfeasance, it will work for anyone.

  • Paula

Its Alabama, go figure. Hey Alabama, the world knows that you are stupid, stop trying so hard to show us.

  • bkmn
    • Gustav2

The Red Cross Gala has been the premier event of the winter season for decades. The order your name is listed and on which committee is the official social register of Palm Beach. “Society” held their noses using Merde-a-Lago because it was the largest facility on the island. It is safer not to leave the island wearing the big jewels…this is the night they wear the ‘important’ baubles.

  • liondon#iamnotatraitor

He doesn’t really qualify until at least 2 underaged individuals accuse him of inappropriate behavior…. He’ll qualify.

  • Smokey
    • Robincho

Say what you like about Brian Sims. He still needs to fuck me into insensibility…

      • Treant

So that’s, what, five, ten seconds?

        • Robincho

What’s time. to a slut on the prowl?…

          • Treant

Time is nature’s way of keeping me from having sex with every man at once.

    • Brian talking about putting his hands on things makes me all tingly…is it hot in here?

  • Tread

Can’t wait until they uncover this asshole’s skeletons.

  • BobSF_94117

He’s probably doing it due to the financial “flexibility” allowed with campaign funds, even if one loses. Pat Robertson figured that one out a while back and the rules have only gotten more lax.

  • Slippy_World
    • shivadog

Which predicts 6 years of nuclear winter. (and I was hoping for an early spring)

  • The_Wretched

I’d like to think he’s unfit to hold the office so he’ll lose but…we aren’t living in those times. Elections aren’t free and fair.

    • -M-

And voters aren’t particularly informed and thoughtful on average either.

  • Jonathan Smith
    • PickyPecker

      Hi, Jonathan. Happy Friday!!

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

Sorry, no. You Republicans can’t go back and run on “morality”. That ship has sailed. Everyone is onto you.

    • -M-

      Not everybody, unfortunately.

  • ceeenbee

Bets anyone on how long it takes to find him with a rent boy carrying his luggage for a trip to Cabo.

  • Ninja0980

I’m afraid to see what secrets are in this guy’s closet.

    • Tread

I’m not. I want his deepest, darkest secrets exposed for all the world to see.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

Just dropping in for my 15 minutes of shithole presidency news.

I’ve gotta say, since I’ve been limiting my internet exposure, my day-to-day life and mood are much better. Of course, I know it’s still out there and I can’t totally get away from it, but it helps. At the gym this morning, they had the whole row of TVs tuned to different channels, so of course, I saw video of Trump, Nunes, etc., and all the airhead newsreadermodels, but the sound is off unless you have earphones plugged into the machine jacks, so that’s nice. I did notice that Rand Paul was on 2 or 3 of the stations – what was that about? Do I even want to know?

    • Joe in PA

They had to remove Punxatawny Phil from his head so they could see if we were gonna have 6 more weeks of winter.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

    • Robincho

You might NEED to know, but you definitely don”t WANT to know…

  • DoctorDJ

Welcome to The United States of Iran.

  • Macbill

Let’s go back to the good ol’ days when all stores were closed on Sundays. Mandatory church going: no Mosque-ing around.

What the hell is going on in Alabama ? Did the State ever get past 1899 or are they still living in the 19th century ?

    • olandp

BINGO! Actually they haven’t gotten past 1850.

      • LesbianTippingHabits

Everyone who has, has moved out. That’s the reality.

  • olandp

I’ve never listened to “The Rick and Bubba Show”. I’m guessing they are morning shock jocks, which makes me doubt the ‘morality’ of a televangelist who is a “friend of the show”.

  • JWC
    • Friday

Functional ones don’t confuse themselves for authorities that need to.

  • andrew

Scott Dawson is a slightly more macho version of the scamvangelist Ernest Angley.

  • Renfield

    Alabama never surprises.

  • Tor

The louder they scream, the farther they fall. Just wait.

  • Friday

Christian Righties have no ‘morality’ to bring. They’ve demonstrated this constantly, and even more loudly just lately.

  • Judas Peckerwood

    In Alabama? INCONCEIVABLE!

    • Gianni

I know and we’re all stunned.

  • Tempus Fuggit

Wuh nayoh…ah reckon ya cain’t spell “gubernatorial” without “goober”, aHYUCK! Eeyin jeeziz’ nayme aymeeyin.

  • anne marie in philly

just what we fucking need – another white xstain GOPrick male running for office. SMASH THE PATRIARCHY!

    • LesbianTippingHabits

It’s great that he’s running, provided that the Democrats run, and Alabama voters choose, someone else – way more qualified and with integrity.

The real issue with places like Alabama is that Americans, including those who grow up there, can choose to live anywhere in the country they want.

  • TheManicMechanic

Sorry, but televangelists need to be shot where they stand for the good of humanity. They have zero worth to society to begin with, and they sponge their riches from making other people’s lives miserable and ignorant.

  • Gianni

Sounds like a good choice for Alabama. If nothing else, it would emphasize the state’s commitment to God’s will. Of course, as usual, if he doesn’t win, then it’s not God’s will. One has to assume that God has told him the he is the chosen one to be Governor.

  • agcons

Oh, goody, just what the US needs more of: another crackpot Christian fundamentalist trying to govern something.

  • LesbianTippingHabits

Well, perhaps the Alabama Governor’s Mansion indeed could use some morality.

You know, treat people decently, help out the less fortunate, tip generously for good service.

As well as the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet.

As Donald Trump would summarize: Sad !

  • BoJ

Rick Burgess is a hypocrite of the highest order. I went to HS with him. Ass hat! I knew Sec of State John Merrill when we were both kids. (He used to go by his middle name, Harold.) Admitted to cheating on his wife in an article while running for office. So, you’ll pardon me if I scoff at their claim of superior morality. Oh, the stories I could tell. Maybe one day I will.
