Assange Offered “News” On Top Dem To Fake Hannity

The Washington Examiner reports:

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange tried to offer “news” about Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, to Fox News commentator Sean Hannity but actually messaged a woman posing as the cable news host.

The Daily Beast reported Monday Assange direct messaged @SeanHannity_ early Saturday morning after the real Hannity’s account was deleted due to a technical snafu by the social media company. However, the @SeanHannity_ account was run by a Texas woman — Hannity’s real account is @SeanHannity.

From the Daily Beast:

Citing mysterious sources and to-be-revealed bombshells, Hannity has been alleging he will unveil “the biggest scandal in American history” for weeks on his primetime Fox News show that has devolved into mostly a recitation of conspiracy theories about a “secret society” and the “deep state.”

Both Hannity and Assange’s WikiLeaks have pushed similar document drops and hashtag campaigns since before the 2016 election, most recently the push to release a confidential memo about government spying under the hashtag “#releasethememo.”

Last year, Hannity even invited Assange to guest host his radio program. Both participated in baseless speculation about the murder of former DNC staffer Seth Rich, which Hannity later dropped after advertisers dropped his program.

I’m still surprised by how many people were Assange fans in the early days.
What he did always seemed unethical, dangerous and reckless. Same with Ms. Manning.

    • Scott

I was a fan in the early days. I think I’m still a fan of Chelsea Manning even at the same time I think she must be a bit mad. But Assange has become a caricature of everything he despised. His principle that nations use secrecy for ends that have nothing to do with the needs of their citizens is irrefutable. Putting that principle into action was always going to cut both ways. I wonder now if he ever thought of that.

My hypothesis: He thought, with a grandiosity not unusual in young men, that simply revealing the truth would force “Washington” to somehow apologise for the corruption that took the Coalition of the Willing into the blood-bath-money-pit that is Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and I’m sure I’ve left some place out. Years of being trapped in the embassy and he has totally forgotten his principle. He is consumed by wanting to revenge himself upon Clinton and Obama because he thought they would be forced to vindicate him, that they would allow him out of the embassy. Assange has destroyed Wikileaks for all time, far more completely than Hillary as Secretary of State could ever have hoped to do. He managed to slice the pinnacle off Hillary’s career with the 2016 election. I’m sure he never expected to. He must be nearly unhinged now that she has a best-selling book and is–if anything–more popular now than when she won the popular vote. If that doesn’t unhinge him, surely one day soon he must realise that putting Trump in the Oval Office has embedded the military-industrial complex in Washington more completely than even Hillary would have allowed.

I hope this isn’t complete nonsense. It is very late where I type this. Hard to believe I live only a few kilometres from where Assange grew up.

      • MonochromeMouse

I was also a fan of Assange and wikileaks back in the early days when it released absolutely everything it received and left it to the reader to draw conclusions, but I think the whole thing was just a charade by Assange to gain power. He never really cared about the truth or government transparency, he wanted to gain as much influence and power as he could and knew there was no chance in hell any country would elect him to even be dog catcher so now he fancies himself some kind of elite hacker when he’s really just a cowardly stooge for Putin.

      • -M-

Assange seems to have always been at least a proto-fascist. He uses secrecy and selective or distorted openness the same as the worst governments in the world do to distract, disrupt, blackmail…

Even with the release that first brought Wikileaks to fame he was pushing for irresponsible indiscriminate publishing. It was the reporters who insisted on redacting names and details that could get innocent people killed.

Manning may have meant well and been cruelly manipulated by Assange at the time. But now? She seems full on ‘burn it all down and make common cause with the Nazis to do it’ deranged.

    • Ninja0980

Me too, especially after Assange made it clear he wasn’t concerned that some of the stuff he was putting out (Afghan translators) was in fact putting lives in danger.

  • Buford

As a reminder, there’s a non-insignificant theory out there which says that when the Russians hacked the RNC alongside the DNC in 2016, the embarrassing RNC emails ended up in TrumpCo’s hands. Per the theory, that’s why we otherwise-normal GOP congresspeople suddenly being so sheepishly sycophantic to the Trump WH.

It makes sense to me… the common thread from all of the thoughtful analysis of our current situation all comes back to the same troubling concern. Namely, why are Republicans in Congress refusing to push back on these transgressions by the WH..?!??!

    • Rambie

Possible but, IOKIYAR has been around for decades. This isn’t the first time the Republicans ignore their side’s transgressions

      • TimCA

But to this extent? What’s going on now is simply jaw-dropping.

        • Chris Gardner

As the saying goes, Democrats fall in love while the Republicans fall in line (like sheep).

          • -M-

Like fascists with a common cause. Which the Republican leaders are.

        • Rambie

The line of what they’ve been ignoring from their side has been on a steady trajectory. How they’re acting now, which is jaw-dropping indeed, but falls along that line without the need of blackmail.

        • KarenAtFOH

I agree. There’s been too much flip-flopping and trump ass kissing to think he doesn’t have something on them.

      • Buford

This is beyond IOKIYAR. We’re hearing moderate Republicans and ex-GOP officials (Nicole Wallce, Michael Steele, Steve Schmidt, Joe Scarborough) on all of the news shows passionately questioning why the Republicans in Congress are refusing to quash Trump’s dangerous actions. They recognize that Trump is running the country into the ground and that it’s troubling that the GOP Congress refuses to even try to stop him.

    • Gerry Fisher

Because they’ll lose their base and get primaried, just as Bannon did successfully in Louisiana.

  • Bluto

Why don’t we simply bomb the Ecuadorian embassy to be rid of this turd? Sure, it would cause a war but we’re good at bombing brown people.
edit: SNARK SNARKY SNARKSNARK. THIS IS A SNARK. Calibrate your meters, people.

    • William

A gas leak causing the embassy would be much easier. Or there could be an unexploded bomb at a nearby construction site. It happens all the time in London. No need to go to war.

      • Astronaut Mike Dexter

Let’s get Boris and Natasha on it! Oh wait, they’re on the other side.

    • Because you are putting US Embassy personnel and US expatriates in Ecuador at huge risk if Assange is attack or he is taken without the Ecuadorian Gov’t consent. The Embassy is Ecuadorian Territory..

      • Bluto

Does that REALLY need a snark tag? Is it not horrifyingly ridiculous enough to be seen as an absurdity?

        • Lumpy Gaga

          Welcome to 2018.

          • Bluto

I should of known that nothing sounds too absurd during the cheeto regime.

    • Pip

A bullet through an uncovered window would take care of it without declaring war on Ecuador. Right? 😉

    • Gianni

Must remember that said embassy is in London, capital city of our closest ally. Not a good idea.

      • Bluto

        IT. WAS. A. SNARK.
        Definition of snark noun ˈsnärk
: an attitude or expression of mocking irreverence and sarcasm

To be perfectly clear, I DO NOT ADVOCATE BOMBING LONDON, Ecuador or any other person, place or thing. SSNNAARRKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Gianni

Try not to get so upset. I apologize for ruining your day. Chill.

  • Chris Gardner

Assange is just a stooge of the Russians at this point, perhaps has always been so.

Assmange will hold out for guest hosting Shill Maher’s Real Slime.

    • Uncle Mark

I sincerely doubt that Maher will EVER have Assange on his show again. The last time Assange was on the show (via Skype in 2016), he attempted to blackmail Maher to win an argument, threatening to “reveal” some “embarrassing” information about Maher to his viewers. Maher told him “go ahead,” at which point, Assange revealed that Maher donated quite a bit of money to Hillary…trying to sully Maher as being terribly biased. At which point Maher pointed out that he is not an independent journalist, and he makes no secret as to who he supports, and his donations weren’t secret. Assange came off as being creepy & slimy as fuck. I’m not a fan of Bill Maher, but his “fuck you, I have no secrets you can blackmail me with” attitude really made him look good that evening.

Assange can continue to be locked up in his Ecuadorian embassy prison…wallowing in his own delusions of power, his bile, and his own stench.

      • Treant

Sounds like Assmange. I’m kind of surprised Maher didn’t call him a slimy fuck outright.

  • Gerry Fisher

Assange makes me grit my teeth. Grrrrr!

  • I can see how he made that mistake. The real Hannity does seem awfully fake.
