Bernie Summons Advisers To Discuss 2020 Bid

Politico reports:

Bernie Sanders convened his top political advisers in Washington on Saturday for a planning meeting that included a discussion of the feasibility and shape of a possible 2020 presidential campaign, half a dozen senior Democrats familiar with the gathering confirmed to POLITICO.

The top-line message the Vermont senator received from the operatives gathered during the government shutdown was a more formal version of the one they’ve been giving him regularly for months: You would be one of the front-runners for the Democratic nomination. And if you want to run, it’s time to start seriously planning accordingly.

The Democratic socialist’s response to the series of presentations, according to multiple Democrats: I haven’t yet made a decision about 2020, but I still think beating Donald Trump is the most important thing for this country. And I want to be ready if I do decide to run.

  • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]
  • penpal

Hoping he does. He would make a phenomenal president, in spite of the vitriol he frequently receives from deranged Clinton maniacs.

    • Reality.Bites

      Bye, idiot.

    • drbrentzenobia

The Republicans had a huge file of opposition research on him that they never needed to use, and Clinton treated him with kid gloves because she needed his supporters.

  • Bill

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • ZRAinSWVA

      Repeating: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

      • Lumpy Gaga

        I already outbid this…

    • Lumpy Gaga

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(My bid has an extra O and an extra !)

      • Reality.Bites

        Needs some 1s mixed in.

    • Steverino

      Mr. Bill?

  • Treant

Do I have to even? OK, he’s old, he’s burned his bridges, and he failed to connect with voters. His “endorsement” of Clinton earned him a lot of enemies, including me. He’s not even a Democrat, but he did drift in before drifting back out.

No to the fuck no. But fortunately, I think Jane’s little stint in Federal court will short-circuit this.

ETA: Threads like this are always a great opportunity to block the BernieBlowers. Have at.

    • Ninja0980

The thing that makes me laugh is how Bernie and company don’t think that or other things would have been used against him.
The GOP still has a stack of research ready to go against him if he does run in 2020.

      • Reality.Bites

Not if we use it first.

This is war. Bernie runs, we destroy him. We make him sorry he ever ran for office.

        Goodness knows I am.

      • jerry

Last I heard, it was 6 to 7 feet thick of oppo research.

  • Ziad Baaklini
  • Michael

And once again these comments in here prove why Trump won.

FYI: Next time don’t be such bitches to those whom you later look to support you and you won’t lose.

    • Ziad Baaklini

Bernie stands for something bad whether or not you want to see it.

      • Michael

Yup, Universal Health Care and making sure the middle class was taken care of was really, really “bad”

        • ZRAinSWVA

He was and is a fringe candidate who didn’t have a chance in hell of winning. All he did was divert votes and increase angst. If you want to talk about polarizing our country, BERNIE would be about as bad as tRump.

          • Michael

WHAT?? EVERY SINGLE POLL had Sanders beating Trump by wider margins then Clinton. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

            Wow, really?

          • Lazycrockett

The GOP would and will tank Bernie with his radio show tapes.

          • Michael

And Russia and Jillian would NOT have stepped in like they did to make sure the candidate loss.

Pretty sure your “negative” against Sanders pales in ratio to that negative against Clinton especially seeing the GOP had a hell of a lot more than “radio show type” to use against Clinton.

          • penpal

Exactly. He would have won against Trump and the polls showed it. Voters responded to his frankness and the stances he took on various policies. Clinton was far less palatable to voters until she absorbed his ideas. And she still fucking lost.

        • Joseph Miceli

Don’t bother. On this site it is “I hate Bernie 24/7.”

          • Michael

Yeah, it’s crazy. I don’t get it. The guys on here are extremely rude to anyone who dared question Clinton and didn’t fully offer their support to her without hesitation. And once again the venom is on display and, unfortunately, they still wonder why their beloved loss.

          • Joseph Miceli

I’ve made the point that you’ve made about not pissing off potential allies and I got shellacked! I think they just need someone to blame. The fact of the matter is that Hillary lost because Republicans have been smearing her for over 30 years. Bernie was easier to blame than the fact that they chose a bad candidate. Not saying she wasnt’ the best qualified…she was!…I’m saying she simply had to steep a hill to climb.

          • Lumpy Gaga
          • Joseph Miceli

I’m sorry, but any point you want to make with that video is lost on me. I waited on her and her entourage and they were a nightmare. No way am I watching that.

          • CB

Actually, I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But what I would want to hear from Bernie (or any candidate) is HOW is he going to get us to his noble ideals. What’s it going to cost? I’m frustrated with the vision devoid of practicality that every politician has saddled us with. People vote with emotion, but we need more rationality, whoever the candidate is.

          • Michael

And exactly how do you think EVERY OTHER COUNTRY paid for it???

It’s a F*CKING CRAZY people think it would cost too much when we’re the ONLY country that does NOT do it. Our health care system “as is” costs us WAY MORE in the long run than if we offered a single payer option.

          • Lazycrockett

He doesn’t have any plans just unicorn and rainbow dreams.

          • Joseph Miceli

It is not an exaggeration. This is very much a pro-Clinton website and they WILL shoot you down if you give anything more than a nod to Bernie. As to how Bernie is going to get his noble ideas enacted? Without Congress he won’t. Right now, we don’t have Congress. Then again, no one thought a fucking idiotic wall would have a chance either.

          • Reality.Bites

            Not pro Clinton.

            Pro Democrat.

          • Reality.Bites

Trump can’t pass legislation with a majority in both chambers. How could Bernie, party of one, pass a damn thing?

        • Lumpy Gaga

          [Looks around]

          We got those? Awesome!

          Thanks, Bernie!!!!!

          • Michael

Uh, where exactly is Universal Health Care and exactly how is the middle class being taken care of?

Bernie wanted to give us a health care system EVERY OTHER industrialized country (ie, 1st world countries) gives to their citizens. It’s crazy people act like this is such a wild idea when we’re the only ones doing a profit-driven health care system.

        • Ziad Baaklini

That’s clearly not what I was referring to.

    • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]

He will be 79 in 2020. Put EVERYTHING else aside. Is it prudent to have a President begin his term at that age?

      • Michael

I don’t think he should run again but that’s not what I’m talking about. The venom directed by Clinton supporters to anyone who supported Sanders is vicious. Not once was any Sanders supporters as extremely rude to any Clinton supporters. Unfortunately this is exactly why Clinton loss. You can only piss off people so much before they eventually decide to look the other way.

        • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]

Not once was any Sanders supporter extremely rude to Clinton supporters? I saw plenty of it (and yes from both sides). There’s a reason the term “BernieBro” was invented.

No, this is not “exactly’ why Clinton lost. Have you heard of CrossCheck, Russian hacking,J ill Steinn, Comey’s letter, FB and Twitter bots? There is no ONE reason why Clinton lost.

          • Michael

Oh please, by all means, show me. That is most definitely NOT where the term “Bernie Bro’s” came from.

Uh, “Bro”, Clinton loss because many Sander supporters stayed home and how could you blame them. Sander supporters were ready to support her, just waiting for her to pick her VP candidate and what does she do??? Instead of picking a candidate Sanders supporters could get behind she picks the most “establishment” pick possible. It was by far the final straw seeing she constantly, along her supporters, gave “Bernie Bro’s” the middle finger.

          • RainbowPhoenix

Uh, no, quite a few BernieBros were not ready to get behind her, and kept throwing shit at those of us who were.

          • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]

Urban Dictionary, top definition: An insufferable, self-righteous, left wing activist, who refers to everyone who doesn’t share his narrow political views (a.k.a. anyone who doesn’t feel the Bern) as a corporate puppet/media whore.

#2: A colloquial term used to describe volatile, unstable, angry Bernie Sanders supporters. These supporters tend to unleash attacks on facts as being from “the establishment” and proceed to fight back with red herrings. The most annoying people you will come across online, as they typically dominate r/politics with barrages of down votes if you undermine their God.

The tone of your reply to me indicates the definitions are valid.

P.S. I voted for Bernie in the primary.

          • Nowhereman

I think that Berniebros were Russian bots for the most part. I was for Bernie originally and I got really sick of the venom that was spewed at us, including her husband telling us that we would be “toast” after the primaries. That doesn’t make anyone feel all warm an fuzzy about voting for his wife. But when Hillary became the nominee, I voted for her. And Bernie did pull her to the left a little. Frankly, I hope that neither one of them run again, ever.

      • Reality.Bites

While I don’t want him to be President I’m not at all bothered by the thought of him dying in office.

        Or out of it.

You know yesterday not one but TWO provincial Conservative party leaders in Canada were accused of sexual harassment.

Both are gone. Their respective parties told them to go. Immediately. And if they didn’t resign they’d have been fired.

This is how things happen in sane political systems. Even for Conservatives.

Please, Americans – learn from the rest of the world. We’ve figured out democracy. Get off the short bus and go to regular school.

Sane countries don’t have Trumps. They don’t have Sanderses. Political parties don’t willingly let egocentric narcissistic assholes take them down.

    • penpal

They still harbor a lot of resentment that their candidate–who couldn’t win her way out of a wet paper bag–got her ass handed to her by a morally bankrupt toddler.

    • RainbowPhoenix

Or maybe you could have grown up and did what needed to be done to prevent a fascist from being put in office instead of whining and taking your ball home because you didn’t get your first choice.

I say this as someone who voted for Sanders and started regretting it when showed what a hypocrite and a sore loser he was.

  • leo77

    No disrespect, but no.

    • Reality.Bites

      Disrespect?

      I start at utter contempt

  • Pollos Hermanos

    No

    Stop it.

  • Reality.Bites

There was an episode of the Big Bang Theory in which Sheldon suggested that scientific theory would advance greatly if people had a device implanted in their head that would cause it to explode if they said something stupid.

While I think it would actually wipe out the human race within days (everyone says stupid things), I am more than willing to test his idea on Bernie.

SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GO DIE OLD MAN

  • Westcoast88

If he runs as an Independent (he’s not a Democrat) he will split the vote and Trump will win.

  • Randy Ellicott

No, if he really gave a shit about the country he would have been building up a third party since the day he lost the nomination, instead he has been attacking both parties allowing trump in office. he is as bad as trump, self obsessed and an egomaniac.

    • Joseph Miceli

Building a third party would have ensured a Republican win. I fail to see how that would be good.

      • Randy Ellicott

Not necessarily in trumps america, but i am talking about if he really cared about moving the country in the right direction and not enforcing his will on all others. The two party system is strangling our country, at some point its either going to collapse or evolve, him playing a game so he can feel powerful does not in any way help america.

        • Joseph Miceli

I begin to wonder just how much this is vanity politics, I agree with you on that!

      • Trevor Brown

        Says the Russian Bot.

  • Pizza009

Well we need someone to split the Democratic vote. Can’t go around winning elections or some shit.

    • The_Wretched

Oh look, a drive by dropping off dead and overly beaten horse. Troll instigate much?

    • another_steve

I assume political scientists will be analyzing and writing about this for years to come: the extent to which Sanders de-energized those who were otherwise prepared to vote for Hillary Clinton, and whether that played a role in her defeat.

I’ve always believed that Sanders is at least partially responsible for Donald Trump being in the White House today.

      • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]

And how long it took him to offer his lukewarm endorsement and less than vigorous campaigning on her behalf.

      • Ninja0980

Sanders dragged out the primaries when it was obvious he was going to lose and did nothing to stop the both sides are the same narrative.
He also poisoned the well in swing states IMO.
He did indeed help Trump with all of that and he doesn’t give a damn since he has been more concerned with attacking Democrats who don’t kiss his feet since then.

        • Do Something Nice

That is nonsense. It was Comey, sexism and serious campaign flaws that sunk Clinton. I agree she was the ‘most competent’ candidate running and I voted for her. But she was also the candidate with the highest negative ratings ever going into the election cycle. Of course most of those negatives were bullshit from decades ago, but it isn’t easy to recover from decades of anti-Clinton smears.

        • jerry

“…dragged out the primaries…” Primaries, hell: It was through all of the voting during the DNC convention. Then his followers protested the remaining nights of the convention and through the remainder of the year. They even booed him at the convention when he finally conceded.

      • marshlc

Looking at it as a Canadian, from the outside, it seems to me that your primary process is partly to blame.

If the primaries get nasty, it’s handing ammunition to whoever the winner meets in the general election. “Even people in her own party say she’s corrupt!” they shout.

Here, who becomes the candidate is pretty much an internal party matter, threshed out, not behind closed doors exactly as it’s covered by the press, but not an all hands hair pulling melee in the middle of the street, either. The candidate hasn’t been poisoned in the minds of the general public in a months’ long public brawl.

There are some benefits to the American system, but this huge drawback, I think, outweighs them. A lot of potential Democrat voters were turned against Clinton during the primary, and while they might not have voted for Trump, ended up either staying home or voting third party.

Sanders started out with a pretty civil campaign, but eventually it went dirty. Even enthusiastic support of the candidate, after that, can’t really walk it back – all that does is convince some that all politicians are hypocrites, turning them off politics entirely.

        • another_steve

I think your analysis is spot-on, marshlc. Our primary process here – when it goes bad – hinders the chances of the candidate who eventually emerges from the process.

There are lots of primary races here where there’s no intra-party bruising, but that wasn’t the case with the Sanders/Clinton matchup.

      • JustDucky

If nothing else, by attacking Hillary with old right wing slurs Bernie provided cover for bigoted “liberal” voters to keep their “holier than thou” cards while they helped prevent the election of a woman to the nation’s highest office.

      • Pizza009

It’s weird growing up Republican the difference between the two bases. When I was Republican, we fought in the primaries but everyone united in the general no matter what. Now that I’m liberal, I feel I know much more liberals who don’t vote for the candidate in the general if she’s not their Choosen One.

  • Joseph Miceli

As much as I love Bernie, I feel that any contribution he could have made he already has. He DID pull the party back to ceter left, but now it is time to pass the torch to the kids. No more old men (and women!) We need new blood. Kerry, Sanders, Biden, Hillary… their time has passed. We need to move on too.

    • ZRAinSWVA

Agreed. It’s time for new, younger blood.

    • Trevor Brown

      Russian Bot

      • Joseph Miceli

Yes, I’ve been posting for the last 15 or so years from Stalingrad. You just made yourself look like an ass.

This troll bot is now being executed by Putin thugs.

          • Trevor Brown

Every bot creator you discover gets executed by Putin. Keep it up. There’s no reason to feel bad/sorry for these Skraelings, they deserve death. If they were really righteous they would assassinate Putin.

          • Karl Dubhe 2

I’m wondering if you’re a bot, at this point.

Either that, or you’re hogging all of the good weed.

          • Joseph Miceli

            Nah, he’s just a dick.

          • Nowhereman

I don’t get it either. But I don’t know either one of them.

          • Joseph Miceli

LOL, my fat pale hairy self is NOT getting in a swimsuit selfie! But thanks!

            A dickweed?

          • Uncle Mark

Don’t waste your time with this troll. He even attacked Nowhereman, who came out to defend you without insulting this “Trevor Brown;” only to be insulted for his very civil defense of you. Clearly, this guy loves to show up on different sites and pick a fight with someone. Those of us, who’ve read your comments for some time, value your thoughtful opinions and civil discourse (whether we agree with you or not.). You have should feel no need to justify yourself to a lowlife troll.

          • Joseph Miceli

It’s a troll. I’ve checked his history and he does these short spurts of abusive assholery in order to get a hard on. Sad really.

Little Troll, you picked the wrong person today. Now Travista, I know you only get out from under your little bridge every now and then, but you need to be polite when the adults are speaking. Stop throwing your little six word tantrums and go play. The adults are trying to talk.

          • Trevor Brown

            You wish Russian.

          • Joseph Miceli

I genuinely laughed out loud. That’s all you got, Travista? I changed my mind. You’re no fun.

I think we’ve been invaded today. There are at least two new posters with youthful looking avatars suddenly dishing on long time participants in our space here on JMG.

          • Nowhereman

The googlebot is back, too. They did get a raise though–They’re now being paid 98$ an hour instead of 97$…

So their Land Rover gets leather seats then?

          • Reality.Bites

Been on Discus since 2012 – as soon as Joe started using it.

Never had another profile. My full posting record is up there. All 37,000 posts. Not one good word about Bernie or his followers. Not one neutral word either. Despise the man, despise his bros.

And yet – I’m telling you that Joseph is not a bot.

And I’m also telling you you’re blocked. We might be on the same side, but you’re an unmitigated asshole and Joseph isn’t.

          • JCF

            I’m not saying I’m a genius or anything…

Trevor, I had my disagreements with Joseph’s posts (although I agree with this one), but no, he is not a Russian bot. He has been a long time part of the JMG commentariat.

          • Trevor Brown

No actually he only joined just after the 2016 election.

          • Joe in PA

            New profile.

          • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]

Yes, just looked and not as long as I thought under the current profile, but he’s not a bot. Your comments do indicate you spend a lot of time calling people trolls and bots. Why?

If you think you are engaging with a bot, why continue to respond? You would be literally arguing with a computer program. To what end?

          • Nowhereman

I’ve been on Disqus a few years longer than my account states, too. This is my third incarnation. The good thing about Disqus is that it is used by a lot of web sites. The bad thing about it is that trolls can follow you to hell and back, gang up on you, get you suspended and so forth. That is why my comment history is now private.

Joseph Miceli has in fact posted here for years. He’s no bot nor a troll. This Discus account is clearly more recent as you pointed out but he has posted here under the same name using a different Disqus account for many years before.

          • Uncle Mark

            shhhhh!!!!!

        • Trevor Brown

Actually your profile reveals you only joined Disqus just after the 2016 election.

          • Joseph Miceli

Under that Facebook profile, Travista. I’ve been on Joe My God since before Bush…but you try to convince Vorpal, AnotherSteve, GayoldLady, Becka, Paula, and everybody I’ve corresponded with that I’m a Russian Bot. I enjoy watching you fall on your face, you silly twit.

          • justmeeeee

            that’s Mister Twit to you!

          • Joseph Miceli

I’ve taken to calling him “Travista.” I hope it enjoys its new name.

          • TimCA

As you wrote up thread, there will only be one Trolita!
(name not to be mentioned lol)

          • GayOldLady

Joseph has been commenting here for years. He and I spent a good part of 2016 respectfully sparring with each other over primary candidates. He’s no bot.

          • Joseph Miceli

Hey!!! Good to see you and thanks! We may not agree on everything but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a respectful dialog and learn from each other.

          • GayOldLady

Good to see you too Joseph.

          • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Micelli’s been here as long as I have. And that’s well before 2016.

        • Do Something Nice

Anything post that is positive about Sanders will have some commenters here twisted in knots. Their neoliberal panties are too easily soiled.

    • Refugay

I do not love Bernie but agree that we are in a new nightmarish world. Out with the old.

    • Nowhereman

I agree. And personally I’d love to see a strong, smart woman of color to run. It drives republicans crazy. Of course, it’s a short trip…

      • Joe in PA

I hear Kamala is available. Oh please, oh please.

        • David

          Totally on board with Kamala.

        • Gary Ortega

Since she is working with Bernie Sanders on the Medicare for all Bill I’m sure you can be seen a lot of them together

        • Joseph Miceli

          Kamala is AMAZING!!!!

        • Lawerence Collins

No more establishment Democrats. This country needs strong progressive leadership.

        • DevineBovine

You mean the very same Kamala Harris who gave Mnuchin a wink and a nod while AG of California? NO THANKS! We’re sooo done with Centrist Democrats who stab us in the back while Republicans stab us in the stomach.

      • swimboy

Tammy Duckworth would drive them insane too.

        • Joseph Miceli

LOL, a decorated handicapped female Vet and a minority. If she were gay their heads would explode! I love that she turned it up on “Cadet Bonespurs.” Let’s see him attack her. She’s invulnerable!

        • Lawerence Collins

She sides with the GOP thugs way to much

      • Lawerence Collins

Nina Turner then. She’d be amazing

    • justmeeeee

Bernie’s just gonna make sure he gets to have a heavy hand in the direction the conversation takes—and we need him for that, and should be thankful. The Hill-bots here will continue to rage into the night, but Bernie will help make sure we produce the best candidate. He’s no dummy…no dummy at all. And unlike most of the others, not an egotist, either.

      • Adam Schmidt

No. If he wants to run as an Independent (which he is), then by all means. But if he wants to run as a Democrat then he should join the party. Until then, he shouldn’t get a single bit of a say in the platform of a party he isn’t a member of.

        • justmeeeee

We’re talking about the country here, not any party. it’s caring only about party and never about country that got the US into the deep shit it might never escape from, but Bernie’s going to at least give it a shot. Thanks to the goddess there are a few patriots like him around still.

          • Adam Schmidt

It’s really simple. I don’t get to have any say in the GOP party platform because I’m not a Republican. Bernie doesn’t get to have any say in the Democratic party platform because he’s not a Democrat. He makes a point of not being a Democrat. He could be if he wanted to but he has pointedly not joined the party even now while he’s running for reelection to the Senate. So he doesn’t get to have input into the Democratic party platform. As an Independent, he can craft his own platform but it doesn’t apply to a party he’s not a member of.

          • justmeeeee

the perfect illustration of why the dems go down in flames once again. parry first! party uber alles!

if bernie runs as an independent, the hill-bots will be screaming about how he’s fucking up the chances of the dems. they still think they can pass the blame for queen hillary’s epic fail on jill stein. please, mary…

          • Adam Schmidt

Then how is it supposed to work? Bernie is supposed to be able to use Democratic party resources, funds, personnel, run on their ticket, and set their platform. But he won’t contribute to the party, won’t join the party, won’t campaign for down-ticket races, and won’t in any way try to help the people whose resources he’s demanding. Because that’s being a real prima donna asshole.

And by pulling on Democratic party resources without contributing a single bit, he hurts our chances to help other Democrats running for office (Senators, Representatives, Governors, and all those other unimportant races). That’s not helping our country… just him.

          • justmeeeee

if bernie gets the democratic nomination, it will be because he joined the party, and of course he will campaign for other democrats. careful–your intellectual dishonesty is showing.

          • Adam Schmidt

Um… he didn’t join the party. He didn’t campaign for other democrats. He didn’t raise money for the party. There’s no speculation, this is all historical record at this point.

          • justmeeeee

he’s not running yet, now, is he, honey?

          • Adam Schmidt

He ran for President and didn’t join the Democratic party. He’s running for his Senate seat right now and despite being asked, he isn’t joining the Democratic party. This is the part of the movie where the GBF says “he’s just not that into you”. If he wanted to run as a Democrat, he’s had over 40 years to do it.

        • DevineBovine

Who cares… the Democratic Party has managed to canabilize itself to death. Amen

          • Adam Schmidt

nothing better to do with your time?

          • Adam Schmidt

            Apparently, no… you don’t.

          • justmeeeee

            No, you! Jeezy peezy!

        • justmeeeee

by all means? really? he’s welcome to it? until the dems blow it again and try to pin it on bernie’s candidacy? like the hill-bots still think their queen lost because of jill stein? and bernie? and comey? and…and…and…? oh, please.

          • Adam Schmidt

And right to the ad-hominem attacks. I’m not a fan of Hillary. She was far better than Trump (but then so is my pet rock) but she was also a piss-poor speaker and was completely wooden when she should have been relatable. She didn’t do a good job of communicating the benefits of her policies but that gets back to her being a poor public speaker. And her team had some ineffective messaging when it came to defusing the email “scandal”.

On the other hand, yes… there were a variety of things that tilted things toward Donnie in the election. The free press coverage that the media threw him because everyone loves a spectacle. Jill Stein did pull votes of purists but the larger impact was from Russian bots and trolls deliberately trying to throw the election to Donnie. And given the small margin of victory in those three rust belt states, yeah… Comey did probably have an impact. I’m not saying any one of these did it, but together yeah… they probably did change the results.

And yeah… Bernie can run as an Independent if that’s his choice. I will think poorly of him for it because it’s time he (and a lot of the older generation) step aside and make room for younger candidates that can shape things for the next generation.

          • justmeeeee

look up “ad hominem” and revise your comment–then let’s talk again.

          • Adam Schmidt

            “hill-bots”

An ad hominem is an attack on a person’s character rather than their argument. So… you were saying?

          • justmeeeee

i didn’t attack you, missy. should i? for not knowing what the fuck you’re talking about? but then it wouldn’t be ad hominem, it would be factual. what a dilemma.

          • Adam Schmidt

Mary, missy, honey… I’m none of those things for you.

And you’re the one that insists that someone who after 50 years in office (he first ran as an Independent in 1968), that now he should have input into a party he hasn’t been a member of in five decades. All a fact no matter how hard you try to pretend it’s not.

          • justmeeeee

I don’t give a shit about the democratic party’s feelings–you hill-bots can keep beating that dead horse–but a few people are concerned about the fate of the country, and for those people, what Bernie has to say matters. Sorry, Missy.

          • Adam Schmidt

See… there ya go with the ad hominem attacks calling me a hill-bot despite the fact that I’ve already said that I’m not a fan of hers. And from that you try to make the claim that I don’t care about the fate of the country even though you don’t have any evidence to back that up.

Frankly, I’d just block you because you’re pretty obviously a troll but I’m enjoying making you waste time trying to pick a fight with me. You’re rude, apparently unconcerned with facts, and devoted to supporting Bernie despite not even once have you brought up a position of his that isn’t currently part of the platform you so desperately think he should have input into (even though he’s not part of the party). He’s not a Republican either, should he have input into their platform? It would make as much sense.

          • justmeeeee

            blow me, bitch.

            bloque for the wankadoodle

          • Adam Schmidt

I’ve been told I’m rather good at it, but no… not on your best day.

    • gaycuckhubby

He didn’t do anything to the Democratic party. We are not more left than we were three years ago. The only thing that’s changed is our country is a hell of a lot further right

      • ArchiLaw

Hell, the last thing he did to the Democratic Party was leave it! If he wants the party’s nomination, he should be a member.

      • Joseph Miceli

I know you despise him but I never meant the country as a whole. If it came out that way I apologize. I meant the Democratic party platform. That is demonstrably correct and you can check it by comparing the platforms from this and last election.

        • gaycuckhubby

Okay, I see what you’re saying. I agree that the platform has changed, I don’t think that the average Democratic voter has changed though.

    • gaycuckhubby

What issues is the Democratic party further left on now than we were two years ago?

      • Do Something Nice

Socialized healthcare. Free college tuition. Greater awareness of economic injustice to name a few.

        • gaycuckhubby

I dont think we have changed on any of that. And we’re certainly not closer to reality on any of them

          • Joseph Miceli

Do something nice is correct. Bernie did push a lot of ideas into the platform that were not there before. Look, I don’t think he should run. I voted for Hillary…but I do believe in the message of the ultra left wing of the party and I have to believe that it is possible to accomplish it. After all, the ultra RIGHT wing of the Republican party believed in their platform and they are winning. If they can do it, WE can do it!

          • gaycuckhubby

I’m more moderate/conservative than the ultra left. But despite my personal politics I just don’t see how the Democratic party has moved left over the last couple years

          • Joseph Miceli

Again, check the platform. But it isn’t really something to worry about too much, after all. Sadly there isn’t much alternative. We aren’t exactly spoiled for choice.

          • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

That’s funny. I consider myself as radical left as you can get and I’m not convinced Dems have moved left at all. Changed their image maybe, but actually moved? Not at all.

    • GayOldLady

      Agree.

    • Lawerence Collins

I’d vote Bernie Sanders over any of any of the Establishment Democrats that have been making noise lately.
      Younger progressives.
      Nina Turner.
      Sherrod Brown.
      Tulsi Gabbard.
      * Elizabeth Warren
      * Appears progressive, jury’s out still.

    STOP

No more Olde Whitey Guyes throwing out trial baloons.

Bernie is right on his positions and they are even low hanging fruit for a more just and saner society. But it’s time for someone with a grasp on politics and paths to that future to step up.

Coming one day after Kerry and it’s like a whose-who of had-your-turn.

I also don’t want to see Hillary return or even Al Gore (though I like him).

    • TCinBerkeley

      This. So much.

  • CB

    No.

  • RainbowPhoenix

He made too much of a hypocritical ass of himself last time to expect to get my vote again.

  • Publius

If Bernie Sanders wants to run for president, then I think he should feel free to do so as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. He’s a fair weather Democrat, and he should have no place in the Democratic Party’s nomination process.

    • Lazycrockett

      The DNC should ostracize him.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Which, as a private entity, they have every right to do.

    • Phil Touchette

Bernie represents what the Democratic Party used to stand for: living wage, strengthening our social safety net, expansion of healthcare to more people, etc. What’s not to like?

And it’s painfully obvious that with our shoddy electoral system, you can’t win unless you are running in one of the two parties. Bernie is definitely a Democrat in tone and spirit, even if he doesn’t have a D after his name.

      • Silver Badger

        He’s too old.

        • Phil Touchette

Biden is no spring chicken, and people seem to have very few problems with him.

          • Silver Badger

Biden’s too old. Anyone over 70 at time of election is too old. So, I’m an ageist. Deal with it. And get off my lawn. I’m also old.

          • Publius

Because people like Vice President Biden, he hasn’t burned bridges, and his track record of actually moving legislation through Congress all but assures he would be an effective president.

Bernie Sanders is a populist that says things that make people happy, telling them things they want to hear, making promises he knows he can’t keep because of political realities. He’s an activist, a good one, but he’s not governing material.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Oh honey, not here they have. The majority of JMGers have been quite clear that it’s time for younger blood. You’re projecting.

      • RainbowPhoenix

What’s not to like? How about his hypocritical and immature behavior once it was clear that the primaries were not going his way.

      • canoebum

So what’s stopping him from changing his party affiliation? He wants the party money but not the party rules. Nice work if you can get it.

  • Phil Touchette

    Yes!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

      No!

  • shellback

I’m guessing Bernie works for Putin. Divide and conquer and all that. The bright side is, he may die soon.

  • DayleDiamond

So many ill mannered people in the forum today! Telling Democrats to go away any time they lose an election is a great way to clear the bench and undermine any institutional power or name recognition that come from effective public service.
Bernie Sanders has every right to run. It’s not his fault the Democratic party perpetually loses elections. He’s better on the issues than Winfrey or Biden, and he’s a more effective politician than most.

    • safari

I see you are young, so I’ll just groan and say I hope his wife spends the rest of her life in prison.

      • DayleDiamond

I see you are getting upvotes for being a fictional character. That’s so much better than a ‘young person’.
If she was guilty of something, I’m sure they’d be an indictment, rather than a bunch of insinuations from Fox News.

        • safari

          Honey, she is under investigation.

As for the Bernster, you might as well have Hillary run a third time and hope for a different result.

          • DayleDiamond
          • safari

Donald’s approval rating is somewhere around 35%. It’s quite easy to find people who’d beat him.

          • DayleDiamond

That’s the sort of wishful thinking that got people voting for Clinton – even though her polling was much, much weaker, “anybody” could beat Trump. We’ve got no margin for complacency.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Yet, if not for the EC, she wins the presidency with around 3 million more votes. Do tell us again how it was wishful thinking. Go on, I can’t wait to be entertained by your obfuscations and deluded diatribes.

        • Jean-Marc in Canada

It’s not so much your youth dear, it’s your ignorance that chafes.

    • Refugay

How does the Democratic Party “perpetually” lose elections? Have you heard of Obama? How is Bernie a Democrat?

      • DayleDiamond

Show me a general election poll that says voters care about party loyalty.

        • Refugay

I asked you first to back up your claim that Bernie is a democrat. So let’s start there…

          • DayleDiamond

Because he ran as one and got votes as one. That’s all it takes.

          • Refugay

No. That’s not all it takes.

          • Treant

(claps). Also, I see I’ve blocked it but it’s still replying to me. How cute. 🙂

          • DayleDiamond

          • Refugay

            And you are?

You didn’t block me. And You don’t know how robots work. Scram.

          • Silver Badger

            That can be fixed.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Oooh, look at you, getting your impotent rage up. Something tells me you’re going to be a lot of fun to play with.

      • Treant

Once. No. And shut up, respectively. 🙂

      • DayleDiamond

Democratic Party lost over a thousand state and local seats since Obama took office. How it happened is a story for several books, not today’s blog post.

        • Refugay

So did Republicans in the same time period.

          • DayleDiamond

No, we lost seats TO republicans. They gained seats. Zero Sum Game.

          • Refugay

You lack historical perspective. You have hysterical perspective.

          • DayleDiamond

Math is Hysterical, so says anonymous octopus.

          • Refugay

            Your reactions are hysterical.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

I actually found them to be m’eh. They never rise past the for me. Then again, comedy, like his responses, is highly subjective.

          • Reality.Bites

          • DayleDiamond

Gerrymandering and the attitude both parties are the same so I’ll stay home (an attitude Bernie promotes) had a lot to do with that.

          • DayleDiamond

            Promotes? Show me the evidence.

      • safari

Bernie is a democrat the same way a leech is part human when sucking on their host.

    • Treant

My first BernieBlower of the day!

You’re confusing ill-mannered with “fucking hating Bernie fucking Sanders.” I will personally pledge 200 hours of volunteer time to any candidate who is second to Bernie’s lead, if such should happen (it won’t), including Oprah. I’ll even pledge said volunteer time to the one just ahead of Bernie to completely crush his useless ass.

Also, blocked, bye, go fellate an Independent. (Now that was a little ill-mannered).

      • Reality.Bites

Not compared to what I said to him it wasn’t. 🙂

    • RainbowPhoenix

He’s also a hypocrite and a sore loser who can’t stand the heat when things start to go against him.

    • canoebum

If Bernie wants to run for the nomination of the Democratic Party he should first BE A DEMOCRAT. Enough of allowing independents to run for the party nomination. If he wants to be an independent, he should run as one and let the Democrats make their own nomination.

      • DayleDiamond

The rules are the rules. If he runs as a democrat and qualifies for the ballot, he’s a democrat.

        • canoebum

No. If he’s registered to vote as a Democrat, he’s a Democrat.

Berniecrats pander to bigots in red states and shun identity politics which lgbt people fall under.

I am not expendable, and I refuse to play a role in a latte liberals fantasy in hijacking a party he refuses to support in many ways, yet screams that’s he is entitled to making changes in the party, which he does not.

His wing of the party do not compromise And will burn the country down in their chance to get the “progressive” candidate they wanted. We should know they did it in 2016.

      • DayleDiamond

Polling data of 2016 Bernie primary Voters vs 2008 Clinton primary voters in the general shows Bernie voters were MORE likely to vote for Clinton than Clinton voters were to vote for Obama. So yeah, we compromised, even if it doesn’t seem like it on the internet.

    • Ninja0980

You are aware many Bernie backed candidates in 2016 and beyond in purple and red states have lost right?

      • DayleDiamond

Yes, I’m aware. He’s not magic, and many Bernie backed candidates were first timers, in tough districts, and were not supported by their state parties. No reason to give up.

    • Reality.Bites

BernieBros aren’t Democrats and you’ve only ever posted here to fellate Bernie.

So, please don’t take this as rude, but go fuck yourself with a machete.

  • safari

I just want a vulture to land on his lectern and start pecking at him.

  • TampaDink

As I expressed yesterday in the thread about John Kerry considering another go at it, please, no! We need to have a candidate who is younger than 70.

    • Reality.Bites

      And, you know, a Democrat.

Bernie, you want to stop Trump? Run for the fucking Republican nomination

  • Droz
  • Blake J Butler

No, take Susan Sarandon and Nina with you and go drive off a cliff.

    • Todd N. Law

AGREED! And don’t Forget Tulsie from Hawaii. NO MORE SANDANISTAS. Didn’t we learn anything from Nicaragua?

  • Raising_Rlyeh

So we can have a repeat of 2016 when you don’t get the nominee and your bernie bros protest.

  • justmeeeee

Do it, Bernie! These tired old Hill-bots were starting to repeat themselves and they rilly rilly rilly need some new red meat to gnaw on. If for no other reason, do it for the sake of the commenters!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Seriously, you’re so pathetic you upvoted your own comment? Behold the self-indulgent narcissism of the alt-left/Bernie Bros. Forever fantasizing that they are Ché. How utterly pathetic.

Wow, the censorship on here is crazy, it’s EXACTLY like the far-right websites.

You dare say anything that goes against the “norm” and your stuff gets deleted.

Grow up people and realize, again, this is why Trump won if you can’t handle a debate on the topics.

    • TampaDink

Exactly like the far right sites? So, you’ve been permanently banned?

  • Michael

Bernie should just do it just to piss off these bitter Clinton bitches.

At least Clinton supporters are trying to save this country instead of whining that “everyone is the same”.

Keep telling yourself that. Nope, you had ZERO to do with Trump being in power.

        • RainbowPhoenix

          You’re projecting, dear.

            Not making sense either.

At least we can afford it if we choose.

Huh? OK, yup, I must not be able to afford it then.

            How f’n dumb are you???

Thank you for proving my point.

Yeah, I did, and the point is you’re a f’n useless tool.

Anything else you need help figuring out?

          • RainbowPhoenix

            You’re projecting again.

          • Michael

Congrats. You’re like the far right who can’t come up with anything better than “libtard”

          • RainbowPhoenix

Thank you for proving my point again.

    • RainbowPhoenix

Many of us “bitter Clinton bitches” voted for Sanders in the primary and were disgusted by how he behaved once it became clear that he was losing.

      • Michael

        Sure, Bro, sure you did.

        • safari

          I actually did, Bro.

        • RainbowPhoenix

There are plenty of regulars here who will testify that I started in the Sanders camp but was vocally calling for people to vote for whoever won the primary.

          • Refugay

            #MeToo (really)

          • Michael

Uh I’ve been coming in here for years and there were about TWO other Sander supporters in here.

          • RainbowPhoenix

Guess you must have slept through the primaries.

          • Michael

You mean the ones Clinton rigged?

          • safari

With her eleven-sided die, voodoo magic, and ability to math?

          • Michael

Uh odd how she won EVERY neck to neck race and ONLY lost the ones she couldn’t rig.

          • safari

Or she just won some races and lost some races. Let me know what Alex Jones says, and get back to me.

          • Michael

Uh, no. She ONLY lost the races she could NOT rig.

          • safari

With all those votes she got. Totes rigger.

          • RainbowPhoenix

Well, since that only happened in your dreams, you just confirmed that you were asleep for it.

          • Michael

why don’t you try to figure out how numbers work and how likely it is for a candidate to be neck and neck in every race and win EVERY one of them.

Numbers don’t work like that in the real world.

          • RainbowPhoenix

Sure they do. Improbable is not synonymous with impossible.

          • Michael

            No they don’t.

Go flip a coin until it lands on head’s 10 times in a row and then come back and let’s talk about how impossible it was.

          • RainbowPhoenix

Plus open a dictionary and read the definitions for impossible and implausible. You’ll notice that they are not identical.

          • Michael

Tell you what, I’ll do that while you look up “reality” so you can attempt to start living in it.

          • RainbowPhoenix

I already am, dear. That’s why I didn’t take my ball and go home when my preferred candidate lost.

          • safari

You mean rare things of pure chance happen rarely. they most certainly do happen.

          • Reality.Bites

There were lots of people like you. Another thing you had in common was being here before the campaign and being here afterwards.

        • Randy Ellicott

Many of us were excited that he got in the race because he would push her left on many things, he failed. he did more damage to the country by allowing a trump win.

          • Michael

No, Clinton did that on her own.

          • RainbowPhoenix

No, you and your fellow BernieBros did that by taking your ball and going home because you didn’t get your way.

    • Sam_Handwich

Bernie isn’t a democrat. Which is why he lost the primary and will lose again if he tries.

      • Gustav2

        Funny how that works.

    • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

      Speaking of (basic) bitches ☝️

      • Michael

Uh, yeah, nice try dear but I’m anything but basic.

First guy to have a face tattoo in 2006.

You’ve hardly every approached anything so “non-basic” in your life, especially when it has a world wide influence.

        • Randy Ellicott

Thats your evidence that you are not basic? seriously? you just kind of proved you were basic…

          • Michael

            Hardly.

          • Michael

I took 30,000 pictures in the NYC nightlife in 2006, changed the ENTIRE WORLDWIDE nightlife scene, even came up with the “selfie”

That’s just the tip of my iceberg too.

          • Randy Ellicott

Did you land on the moon too and start the mars mission?

          • MBear

He invented the hand blender, the catalytic converter, the fleshlight, and cramps

          • Michael

Nope, in 2006, BEFORE the selife gained popularity, I took nightlife pictures and discovered if I took a pic of whatever person with me in it then it turned out much better. I ended up taking “selfies” with a lot of people (ie, 30,000 pictures in one year) and after that, if you remember, nightlife photography and the selfie took off.

Look, I get it. You guys barely have influence in your own bedrooms but I’ve had way more than my share of instances where I’ve had a world wide influence.

          • MBear

            LOL

          • Randy Ellicott

OOHH! i bet he also created papyrus for the first time allowing us to use written language!

          • MBear

Oh…he was the inventor of cuneiform. And language!

          • Michael

            Yes, I did, thanks!

          • Randy Ellicott
          • Michael

I did it 12 years ago, not 11, so Paris came after me. If you take a look at my pictures it’s EXACTLY like she did, just after.

            Next.

          • Randy Ellicott

read the article bro, you are not nearly old enough to have created the selfie, no one on here is.

          • Michael

Uh and when did the selfie become what it is today?

            I’ll wait for your answer.

Here’s a clue: Late 2,006 is when it started to gain massive popularity.

          • Randy Ellicott

read the article bro, even the term selfie gained popularity well before 2006. basic bitch.

          • Michael

Sorry that might fit up your ass but it doesn’t with mine.

    • NZArtist

Quick yes or no: Did you vote for the Democratic candidate in the 2016 presidential elections?

      • Michael

Why, one could say that NOYFB.

        • NZArtist

Well I’ll take that as a ‘no’ then. It gives me an opportunity to tell you how your elections work.
See, you’re in a ‘Winner takes all’ (we call it ‘First past the post’ in my country) electoral system. Because of that the electorate bifurcates – third parties can almost never pass the 50% threshold to gain a seat, so people stop ‘wasting’ their vote on third parties.
So you end up with two parties vying for votes. But because their are only two parties, the parties know that no matter what their policies, they’re likely to end up in power because voters cast their vote to vote whoever bastards out of power. The only way to do that is to vote for the other party. But as the parties use populist language, the vote remains very close to 50/50%. The parties tend to swap power fairly regularly.
So you have two parties. Both are relatively horrible. In the USA, the Democrats tend to be less horrible for humans than Republicans. So at election time you have exactly *one* choice: Vote for the least-horrible party, or allow the most-horrible party into power. Any other vote or choice is meaningless and counter-productive, increasing the likelihood of the most-horrible party taking the presidency.
That’s it – all the politics and choices you have for your elections.
My country used to be the same until we changed to an actual democratic Proportional Representation system of elections. And if you want your government to become more reasonable you should work toward the same. To do that, keep doing the above (it’s the *only* choice after all – at least in the interim you can have the least-horrible choice in power). But at the local level (governorships, mayoral elections, and the like) support politicians who will work toward and support a proportional representation system of elections. Eventually you will get it.
          Easy!

In 2016, I voted for Sanders in the primaries but made it clear that I would readily vote for Clinton if she won. Know who gave me grief? Other Sanders voters.

I find it fascinating that every time I get grief over my primary vote, it’s from people who think that I should take my ball and go home if I don’t get my way.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

They were wrong to say that. You seem to have been pragmatic in your voting which, at the end of the day, is what politics is. Compromise and pragmatism are not dirty words; they have their place and you should not be castigated for it.

    • AC

You know what didn’t happen in 2008? Clinton didn’t sit at the Dem convention with a sour face. And when she campaigned for Obama, she CAMPAIGNED.

      Fuck Bernie

      • RainbowPhoenix

True. Even though she lost in ’08, I didn’t regret my vote. I cannot say the same for Sanders.

    • Treant

Whyever? If the reverse had been true, I would have held my nose and gone to vote for Bernie Sanders.

He wouldn’t have won, he has all the appeal of damp, moldy very-white bread. But on the off chance that the Russians cheated for him, I would have spent four years turning off the television so I didn’t have to hear him lecture me on what he knew I was doing wrong.

      Me too.

Aren’t some forgetting the anti-progressive legislation he supported as a legislator that was never criticized like Sierra Blanca, or his opposition to the Brady bill multiple times and voted against it. The right claimed Obama was a socialist to smear him. The amount of crap they could have heaved Bernie’s way would have been just as thick and deep as what they did to Hillary. If Harris runs there is nothing going to stop her. Black and Women especially in today’s #metoo atmosphere will elect her.

      • Joe in PA

Talk about energizing the party. Wow. And from my most shallow side…she’s not bad looking. 🙂

        • Lazycrockett

After the victory in Alabama, Black Women are finally saying to the DNC respect us, hear us, or fuck off.

    • coram nobis

Harris is a former DA. It’ll be so much fun to see her debate Our Genius Leader. She’ll probably tear his head off and fling it at Chris Wallace.

    • Tread

Meh on Gillibrand. She lost me after throwing Franken to the wolves and the outrage machine.

  • Jmdintpa

And Trump wins again… 4 more years, 4 more years, 4 more years….. get used to it with this self destructive direction our side seems to be on

We need a woman in the White House.

      • gaycuckhubby

        Gillibrand or Harris please

        • Rebecca Gardner

          Harris!

          • Tread

            Double down on Harris!

      • NZArtist

Why? We need the Democratic candidate who is qualified for the job and who can get the most votes in the Whitehouse. Race, gender, sexual orientation, anything else is unimportant.

  • Rebecca Gardner

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

  • bkmn

If Bernie wants to run for the Dem nomination, he should join the party and change it from within, instead of sabotaging it from without.

  • Natty Enquirer

Oh yes, let’s have a race with Sanders, Kerry, and maybe Jerry Brown just for the fun of it.

    • Lazycrockett

Maybe Edwards will come back also.

      • Natty Enquirer

        Don’t count out Howard Dean.

  • Dana Chilton

    Please no

    Piss off Bernie.

    Omg, stuff it.

  • HZ81

So heartened to come back from lunch and find I’m not the only one so over this self-serving, narcissistic dung beetle of a man.

Fuck you, Bernie. Learn math, fuckface. 2 + 2 = 4 fuck’s sake, go to hell.

  • Nathaniel

    God, HELP US!

  • Leo

Well three all out wars in this comment section, as I predicted. Whatever.

He shouldn’t run, he will, he’ll probably win the nom. and if he does he’s lose the election. I have said this since November 2016 and haven’t changed my tune.

    • Reality.Bites

I disagree. This time the Democrats aren’t going to handle him with kid gloves. I hope.

  • David

If we have to run another old white man then I want Uncle Joe.

  • Gene Perry

Love ya’ Uncle Bernie, but, no.

  • Texndoc

He loves the college crowd, they love him. But 4 years later they shouldn’t still be there but the ones that never leave are probably his biggest fans. Remember Maddow interviewing 3 or 4 Bernie supporters the night of his DNC speech and each college age, each female, and they all said they wouldn’t vote for Clinton. And Rachel fumed “HE TOLD YOU. He just TOLD YOU to support her” and they all wriggled their noses “no.” https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/befddf9d856af0ea44613949655e208fefeef1e0d50c5efa917341b57c2f3219.gif

    • Tread

      Were they all white?

      • Texndoc

        As I recall yes

        • Tread

          What a huge fucking surprise.

  • Leo

The rape paper. His wife’s ongoing court case for fraud. I could go on.

Want to tax Wall-St. speculation to pay for the majority of his economic proposals? Great idea! Good luck with implementing that, though.

Why didn’t minority voters support you in the primary process to which you later derided the entire South? They saw right through you.

Reproductive and civil rights are expendable in your 50-state strategy? Good luck with that in this cultural climate.

I’ve got about 20 more points but I’ll leave it there. This is infuriating.

    • bobbyjoe

All that, and the Nicarauga tape (where Bernie reportedly gives a speech in front of a crowd yelling “death to America”) that Newsweek reported the Trump team has would sink Bernie all by itself. Let’s please not go there.

  • coram nobis

Can’t make bread rise twice, can you?

  • picalane

Time to throw another fish to the old gnarly felines.

  • Doug Miller

    No… please no.

  • joe ho

lol. He couldn’t even win California. And that was with Putin, Wikileaks, and the GOP helping him. In a general election, the GOP hate machine would crush him like a bug.

He needs to put on his Che Guevara costume and go out to play in rush hour freeway traffic together with Kremlin Jill and the feather-brained twat Susan Slurandon.

His lack of self-awareness and narcissism are revolting.

  • NO NO NO.

  • jeffg166

Whoever the Democrats nominate if they don’t have a progressive house and senate they won’t be doing much.

  • Talisman

If he runs in 2020, he needs to run as an independent, or the DNC should reject his candidacy. Better Bernie just goes away.

  • ArchiLaw

    Just no.

  • K_J_Pall

    Not again…

  • TheSeer

Sanders and Trump are 2 sides of the same coin.

  • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Forget it Bernie. You sank that ship.

  • MonochromeMouse

The last thing the democrats need to do is run a trump-lite attention whore like sanders.

  • whollyfool

I don’t care who runs if the GOP candidate is Trump. It’s hard for me to imagine anyone I would not vote for over him.

    • whollyfool

Then again maybe I shouldn’t tempt fate. 😛

    • NZArtist

Shouldn’t you be looking at party policies and making your decision based on that, rather than on a single candidate?
Suppose a perfectly reasonable, quite handsome, left-leaning candidate won the GOP nomination. Would you vote for them, (assuming the GOP party platform didn’t change)?
If you vote for a candidate based on personality, you get the crazy party in power with a nice spokesperson to explain in kindly terms how they’re fucking you over.
Vote for the party (not the candidate!) which is least likely to fuck you over badly for the next four years.

      • whollyfool

What I’m trying to do here is get us past all this Bernie/noBernie stuff that’s still going on to concentrate on bringing us all together as a party. We can’t afford to keep alienating our own. Time to bring everyone back to the same fold because in the end we all really want the same thing: for this nightmare to end.

        • NZArtist

Right. And that means: Vote for the candidate representing the party least likely to fuck you over, regardless of whether you personally like that candidate or not.
Which means if the DNC pushes their dinosaurs as candidates and one of them wins, by jingoes you vote for the dinosaur come election time.

          • whollyfool

            Yes. Like I said.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

Would you vote for them, (assuming the GOP party platform didn’t change)?

But their platform does change: it becomes worse. Elect a Republican president, elect the agenda of Republican minions, and that is self-defeating in every possible way.

        • NZArtist

Well, no, because I’m not in the USA. But if the Republican party radically changed its platform to be pro-equality, pro-environment, socially-responsible, pro-humanity, absolutely I’d vote for them. Well, assuming their platform was better than the other party’s.
What does it matter what a political party calls itself if it has the best policies for your country (and hopefully, by extention, the rest of the world).
Party loyalty is a bit like patriotism: absolutely meaningless and self-destructive. If I go stand on your bit of rock over there, should I suddenly be declaring it’s the greatest bit of rock? The rock I’m currently standing on is quite nice, but I dont declare that a piece of material dyed in red, white, and blue is anything special, or that a particular song about how great my bit of rock is has any particular merit.
If the people surrounding you on your bit of rock are arseholes, why would you need to sing your song and wave your dyed cloth? Believe it or not there are other nice people on other bits of rock and even though they sing a different song and have a different coloured piece of cloth they’re just as good people, or possibly even better, than the people on your bit of rock.
Your political party affiliation is meaningless if the party you affiliate with is a bigger bunch of wankers than the other party, regardless of the name of that party or the logo they use. If the party you’re not ‘loyal’ to is going to do a better job of not fucking all of us on the big rock, then vote for *that* party and to hell with party loyalty.
You too have a brain. Use it, think for yourself, throw off other people’s ideas of what and who you should be.

  • Mark Austin

What a nightmare if he runs again. He helped to ruin the Democrats last year…and he’s getting ready to do it again.

All the rhetoric aside, I have to wonder if he really is working for the Putin/Trump campaign.

  • JCF
  • Gary Ortega

Hello Kamala and Bernie are putting forward their Medicare for all bill so most likely they will be running mates so all you out here who hate the Bernie thing but love of female you’re going to have to get over yourself and become one United

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Bernie’s not getting the nomination. False scenario.

  • ajchar

Bernie 2020? NO. Biden 2020? NO. John Kerry 2020? NO. The geriatric wing of the Dems need to take a pass on 2020.

I have no particular Dem in mind but someone who doesn’t qualify for full SS.

    • Gary Ortega

so entitled sounding must be white

  • Stephen Elliot Phillips

    Oh Goddess help us!

  • Halou

Will he be running as an Independent, like he should. Or will this be another vote splitting “Never-Whoever” crusade to usher in Donald Trump’s second term?

  • Dear Bernie: Please run as a Republican.

  • kareemachan

bernie, you’re too old and too divisive. And you’re not a Democrat.

  • JAKvirginia

    Bernie? Bye!

  • TexasBoy

I nominate Brian Sims from Pennsylvania.

He has legislative experience, he’s young, and he’s gay.

He looks even better in person. And you can swim in those eyes.

    • Gianni

It never ceases to amaze me how some guys just get it all and all those little parts come together in the most visually pleasing and stimulating way. Sigh.

      • Ann Kah

        His ears are too high.

        • rusty57

I think Mr Sims has tilted his chin down, which makes it appear his ears are higher than they ought to be.

        • Gianni

          Too high for what? 🙂

    • SDG

He makes me WET!!!! I would move back to America for him. Fucker has a husband.

  • rednekokie

I supported Bernie before — and wish he had won the nomination. But that has passed, and younger people are in the wings.
I’m for Tom Steyer for president. He has got the balls to pull it off.

  • Pip
    • SDG

      Kitty!

  • TexasBoy

Interestingly enough, I know someone who voted for Trump that says he’d vote for Oprah, and was surprised when I didn’t think Oprah was qualified to be POTUS.

    • MaryJOGrady

We are already experimenting with a US president with zero qualifications. Things are not going well.
Governing is a skill. Like any skill, it must be learned.

  • WTHella

Bernie Sanders running will guarantee a Trump victory

  • mikeinbama

Fuck Bernie Sanders! He needs to go sit his fossil ass down somewhere. Stop wasting everyone’s time and stupid peoples money.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

Biden still beats Trump– and him.

Personally, I’d vote Biden. There’s a lot of Dems I’d vote for, which of course means I couldn’t vote for Bernie.

  • MaryJOGrady

I hope somebody in the room has the sense to talk him out of it.

  • Gianni

Will Bernie become a temporary Democrat again to run in 2020? Bernie, give it a decent burial already.

  • No, please, you’ve done your part for the good of the nation, and some damage as well.

  • sacrob

Dark horse Bernie won 46 percent of the earned delegates in 2016. And he won 22 states. That’s pretty farking good against Repugnican Lite Queen Billary. The Bernie haters here are stooges of the corporate system of serfdom, which is sad to see in the LGBT community (if such a thing exists).

    • Ann Kah

I thought he was a pretty reasonable alternative…until he refused to drop out after he lost the primaries. At that point, the dems were screwed.

  • glass

No Bernie, No Oprah! Full stop. I want another Obama.

  • Ann Kah

No, Bernie. Take a seat and watch the proceedings. You had your chance, and you forgot to take your ball and go home after you lost in the primaries. You gave us Donald. Go home.

  • SDG

    No, Bernie NO!!!! Elizabeth Warren!

If Trump is even alive by then, want to see her EVISCERATE him in the debates.
