Melania Won’t Accompany Trump To Davos

Stormy fallout? CBS reports:

First Lady Melania Trump will not be accompanying President Trump when he flies to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, although the trip had earlier been on her schedule. Melania Trump’s press office said that there were “too many scheduling and logistical issues,” so she would not be traveling to Davos.

Monday was the couple’s 13th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Trump’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, had originally told CNN that she had intended to go to Davos as a show of support for her husband, who will deliver a speech at the forum.

The first lady has traveled with Mr. Trump on all four of his foreign trips, accompanying him to Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Vatican, Rome, Belgium, Poland, France, Japan and China, among other countries.

Probably the only time she’s experienced sincerity & grace since she entered the US.

Hooker fashion has been so refreshing in the White House!

    • Gerry Fisher

I feel so sad when I see pics like this. I know that she signed up for it, but…so damn sad. I think when it’s put side by side with the Obama’s compassion and graciousness, it makes it so much sadder.

      • jugomono

Agreed…a greed…I have so many mixed feelings about her. Mostly I feel sorry for her & hope when it’s all over that she gets the money she signed up for & doesn’t hate herself. And that she’s able to protect Baron like Marla Maples seems to have done with Tiffany.

        • Chef Philips

          Well, said!

        • teeveedub

You have way more compassion than I have. I’ll leave it at that.

        • Ranger One

She must like power, fame and money too. And she might be angry that he is publicly humiliating her, cutting into her public stature. So she should divorce him right away and write a tell-all book. Get back that fame, Melania!

      • BlindBill

just remember that she has a history of suing bloggers. She would put anyone into poverty just to protect her self-perceived market value…. and if she has stayed married to that person, then she probably has a variety of designer gimp suits in the closet that she likes to wear in their private time.

      • Mark McGovern

I do in a way as well. It’s all so bizarre, yet another scenario where he was fucking someone else, cover up money etc. Trump is such a dick, he doesn’t know every world leader is laughing/talking behind his back. She, however, is intuitive enough to know this.

    • j.martindale

I was once married to a woman. I would always let her precede me in situations like this. The man is a POS.

      • Ranger One

Also, when he arrived at the White House that day, he leaped out of the car and ran up the stairs giving no thought to her.

      • Chris Baker

That was my thought. He’s not going to at least walk in with his wife, or let her go first? Seems like spoiled little boy behavior: mine! mine! mine!

It can’t be any worse than what it is now.

      • Chef Philips

I’ve never seen a Pre-Nup that can’t be broken, but a lot depends on the State law that applies, and how much you want to spend. There is a case to be made for economic duress.

      • Adam Schmidt

I’d bet it’s for Barron at this point. She puts up with all this and Barron gets a sizable portion of Donald’s wealth. If she divorces him, she either gives up Barron or Barron gives up a future of wealth and luxury.

        • Adam King

Let him labor in sweatshop if it gets him away from the elderly, evil shit of a father.

I’m sure there’s some sort of ‘don’t talk about me after the divorce clause.’

But don’t you think she could do well without his money? He probably has custody of the son based on that too, though.

I have in the past, here on JMG, expressed pity for the girl and been mocked and condemned as a result.

    Think about it.

She comes from a part of the world where electrical power past 9 p.m. isn’t guaranteed. She had to sell her body, pictorially, to eek out a living. And along came a billionaire who put her up in penthouses. Complete with attractive male servants who served her caviar and imported crackers and cheese.

    Have you no mercy, people?

          • John Ruff

Oh for God’s sake. Get over yourself. And block me while you’re at it

          • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

Not sorry. There’s nothing for me to “get over.” Quit the dramatics.

I’m going to call you out on this. You crossed a line here.

You’re picking on a minor child of two reprehensible parents and labeling him autistic without cause. The way you pair “autistic” with “jerk” is insulting to those of us who care about kids of all kinds.

            That’s just mean.

          • zhera

            Getting a bit over-agitated there?

Barron is a child. He has nothing to do with any of this.

            Question:

Where are Child Protective Services, in the case of Barron Trump?

        • Treant

None. Zero. Zip. The kid can stay with Daddy if he wants to, or head back to Slovakia with his whore of a mother. I simply don’t care since basic needs can be met either by Daddy’s money or what Mommy picks up fucking random men.

          • John Ruff

            Thank you

        • JohnJay

Whenever I see Barron, especially those pics of him in Trump Tower, I think of Fitzwilliam jumping up and down whining “I want a vagina!!”

None. She sold herself for some Prada and power after 9 PM.

I have a ton of pity and concern for people who have to sell themselves to eat and for basic housing. For an upgrade to the penthouse, no. If she didn’t know what she was getting…she should have done the basic research first.

    • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

Sorta, maybe, not so much… nope.

    • Reality.Bites

She, like you, is an embarrassment to humanity, but at least she isn’t a defender of pedophilia spewing rape fantasies online.

    • Robincho

She had to scoop the caviar with plastic utensils, à la Mar-a-Shithole. You have NO idea of the privations she must endure…

  • GanymedeRenard

This comment will sound shallow (and perhaps even sexist coming from a man,) and I’m OK with that, and I’ll say it. Melania, dear, you’re aging graceless.

    • Leo

Oh I have far worse to say that would be seen as slut-shaming or misogynistic by common society so I won’t.

    • Treant

Bitch, please. Melania is a plasticized doll-model who’s slowly sagging as the silicone melts and absorbs into her soul. I hear it’s further eroded by every man’s semen that enters her mouth or vag, which means a millimeter a day at least. She needs a little Dutch boy to stick his finger in her to stop the leak, but the kid ran away screaming about being bitten by crabs.

Now that’s how you do shallow.

      • John Ruff

        Bingo

      • GanymedeRenard

I like how your mind works.

Edit to add: Teach me, master!

Gwen Ifill, in the wake of the Imus mess

      http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/10/opinion/10ifill.html

So here’s what this voice has to say for people who cannot grasp the notion of picking on people their own size: This country will only flourish once we consistently learn to applaud and encourage the young people who have to work harder just to achieve balance on the unequal playing field.

Let’s see if we can manage to build them up and reward them, rather than opting for the cheapest, easiest, most despicable shots.

      • Ninja0980

Only in my 30’s yet I’ve had a couple of friends die from cancer etc.
You realize as you get older how fragile life is and to value every day.

        • Lars Littlefield

When you’ve had most of your generation, the generation before you and the generation behind you wiped out by AIDS you develop a view about death that is less scary than philosophical. I keep my old Rolodex on my desk. I can count more than 231 freinds I knew and knew very well who are no longer alive.

          • safari

I haven’t experienced much death. Frail family members passed, but that’s about it. One of my first boyfriends OD’d either by accident or after deliberation a couple of years ago. That’s the only one that hit home, hard.

Between 16 and 19 I went to a couple dozen funerals for friends and family my age. Car accidents, motorcycle accidents, drug overdose, suicide. It was insane how many funerals I went to and it made me realize there is no guarantee I’ll be here tomorrow. As such, I said fuck no to a bucket list and instead have a do it right now list. Money, work, time, all be damned. I only have this one life and if something interests me I’m gonna go out and do it.

How the fuck everyone is just catching up to that pisses me off. Good luck on that regulation seeing as in the founder’s mind it defeats the whole purpose.

      • Lars Littlefield

        I’m deeply invested in Munchkincoin.

Don’t worry. The rich won’t get hosed.

      • BJORN RAGNVALDR

Bitcoin is a blind spot for me. I’ve even watched a news story that explained how they did it, and I still don’t get it. I’m at a point in life though, where I’m fine just not knowing some things.

        • BJORN RAGNVALDR

          …oops

        • safari

Think of the coinage itself as trying to find the next highest prime number: it is possible to do, but it takes computer power to do so. As the number gets higher, it takes more time to validate any number because of the nature of the verification. So, it’s rate-limiting. It gets harder over time to find the next one. That’s the first part — it makes the coinage rare since any piece of it is like trying to find the next prime number in an ever increasing size.

The next part is the blockchain. All that means is that the storage of who owns what is decentralized: there is no one central system that stores it. It is all done through consensus of the entire system. And it is hidden. One knows that a transaction has taken place by monitoring the blockchain, but who/what happened isn’t immediately evident without a lot of computation.

        • Reality.Bites

That’s a way better place than asking about things you can’t and will never understand, forcing people to jump through hoops to explain.

My mother would, every few years, ask me to explain what I did for a living.

Geez, mom, what’s so hard to understand about being a dom for hire with his own dungeon? /s

My boyfriend does things involving social media and an online magazine. I don’t ask him to try to explain it to me.

Last week we did a “meet the parents” at a restaurant in Boca frequented by the over 70 crowd. Today I looked at his facebook (I don’t normally look at FB but an old friend messaged me there today) and saw he did a “check in” there.

I asked him if he thought turning it into a hotspot for 30-something circuit party boys would be a good idea.

          • Chef Philips

No, that is mine, sorry–I wasn’t too clear. I meant, “I have seen mine. It is a hawk. . . .”

Rats are really good companions, but they have to imprint on humans at a certain young age range or they’ll always be a bit nippy even if they like you, so plan to spend some time and talk to someone who breeds rats for adoption by humans to arrange it all: if you just go to a pet store they can only be expected to live a year, more or less, cause all of those stocks for food for snakes and stuff have a respiratory bug that’ll catch up with them.

    • Jefe5084

Nope. Not a single one, which is very rare in the 1st yr. of an administration. Maybe he waiting until he builds the elegant ballroom he offered to pay for a few years back because he was so “embarrassed” for our country that the Obama’s threw a state dinner in a TENT!

Keep in mind one of the only Democrats he’s praised whom has returned it in kind is Tulsi Gabbard, the Berniebots favorite Democrat.
Also remember that her father wrote Hawaii’s gay marriage ban, which she fully supported until she “evolved” aka realized that the state she’s in isn’t politically viable to be a war mongering homophobic bigot if you want to succeed on a federal level.
Like Trump with Republicans and the media, she gets a pass from the far left Obama or Hillary would NEVER get.

    • Blake J Butler

But Hillary was a bigot because she didn’t get marriage equality right on the first time, attended the funeral of that bitch Reagan, and was making the Orlando tragedy political by properly paying respects.

I’m pretty sure I went at least 40 years without encountering that variant.

My mother’s name is one that’s frequently mispronounced in a way that virtually no one who has the name chooses to pronounce it.

Maybe as a result of that, or maybe not, I’m a real stickler for name respect. If you can’t pronounce and spell someone’s name you aren’t allowed to use it.

Since when is magenta not a real colour?

          • safari
          • Chef Philips

Tell that to a painter. It depends on whether we are talking about reflected light or absorbed light

          • safari

Or in or outside of the brain. There are plenty of magentas.

          • Natty Enquirer

It’s not a spectral color. It is in the Line of Purples. But it is a color, nonetheless. Color is a psychological phenomenon.

          • safari

And tetra-chromy is an extension of that psychology for those lucky enough… or attuned.

          • Chef Philips

            What is tetra-chromy?

          • Natty Enquirer

Four kinds of color receptors in the retina.

          • Chef Philips

What are its implications, if any?

          • safari

Color vision is an X-chromosome trait. The proteins that receive color information come from the X-chromosome. Women inherit two X-chromosomes. As such, mutation in one X-chromosome can express itself that a man (XY in nature) could not produce. As such, it is possible for women to have duplicated and mutated color-reception proteins in the retina. In essence, it is possible for women to see more colors than men. The opposite of color-blindness.

          • safari

            Such variation has been observed.

          • Chef Philips

But it doesn’t seem to have relevance to human biology

[Edit: after 20 years of study, the leading expert found One (1) woman who possessed this trait?]

          • safari

How so? The eyes can receive additional color inputs from “standard”.

          • safari

It is theoretic, granted. But certainly possible. If you expand your reference search to transgenetic studies you’ll find it is quite possible to extend color categories in mammals.

          • safari

And beyond mammals for that matter

          • Natty Enquirer

            Alas, I’m only a 2.8-chromat.

You’re not the first person I know that has melded the two. The truth is, like high physics or any science really, there is a “quality” to solutions that is both “good” from the standpoint of resources and structure and “beautiful” from an asethic that is hard to define. It’s always been true.

Leblon a ”’ nice “middle of the road” mixer ”’ Cachaça with some fresh lemon juice and “Sanpellegrino Limonata (16% juice)” with a sugar cube or two is quite pleasant.

I was warned against the rubber taste of inferior Cachaça (fermented sugarcane, like rum, the national liquor of Brazil), and this brand (Leblon) lessens that taste thanks to our friend BeaverTales.

So the majority of Americans support keeping DACA recipients and funding CHIP, and blame Trump for the shutdown, but somehow more than twice as many surveyed blamed Congressional Dems as Republicans.

    WTF?

    • Ninja0980

They don’t, but the headlines make it seem otherwise.

      • Moebym of the Returners

Not according to the results of one poll I saw on the evening news…

I guess it’s one thing to know that your husband is a lying, cheating scumbag, but quite another for the whole damn world to know it. I’m guessing her scheduling conflict might be a meeting with a team of divorce lawyers. And as for logistics, it looks like the entire filthy rich cabinet is going. Lots of filthy rich Russians will be there, too. We will probably only hear about it from the Russian state propaganda outlets. I doubt that our free press will be allowed in.

What’s the situation? I’m not up on SF politics. I know the mayor passed away but what’s the protest about?

      • Rebecca Gardner

They just removed the black woman as mayor and replaced her with a white man after mayor Lee’s untimely death. Makes no sense.

        • DaddyRay

          She was just “too qualified”

    • Cuberly Deux

    • Expect Donald’s attorneys to try to fight any interview or subpoena…precisely for these reasons.

It isn’t just the perjury. It’s how nowadays Donald will casually incriminate himself at the drop of a Chinese-made MAGA hat.

He truly defines “no collusion” as not including his and his campaign’s repeated contacts with Russian officials to obtain their help to win the election. And he apparently has no understanding whatsoever as to what comprises obstruction of justice and witness intimidation & tampering.

Of course, Republicans also want to shutter museums along with their displays and any institutions of learning so….

It must be because enrollments up here have increased by 14%-19% since Trump won and it continues to grow. In fact, at Albert College, a prep-school in Belleville, Ontario has seen such an increase, they’re now completing a new dormitory wing as well as another dining hall and class wing to handle the influx of foreign students who are transferring from the U.S.

        • Oscarlating Wildely

U of Toronto’s applications from the US: increased by seven times over since Trump took office. The university has specifically increased its recruitment and marketing efforts to the US.

          • prixator

I also read today that Toronto’s tourism and convention business has increased substantially over the last year.

“If you’re afraid to step foot in the U.S.A., come to Toronto instead. On a clear day, you can see the U.S.A. across the lake. And, you’ll meet a lot of nice U.S. citizens here, as well!”

    • TexasBoy

Trump’s response will be to put a 50% tax on Americans who travel abroad to keep their travel dollars at home. Never mind that major airlines will go under without international routes, but he’ll find some way to blame that on Hillary or Obama.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

So will the usual suspects on the left who will no doubt claim things would have been under, you know, that woman.

    • Dazzer

It simply isn’t worth the time and trouble to visit the US at the moment.

I’ve lived (and worked) in the US in the past, but I wouldn’t be allowed into the country these days because of where I was born (in the Middle East). And even if I did get through immigration and customs, the whole process would take hours of dealing with unpleasant people.

There have been too many stories in the press in Europe about people with valid visas being turned away once they arrive in America, for a lot of people to take the risk.

Also, the various State tourism bodies have more or less given up advertising in the UK. Usually, around this time of year there are masses of TV adverts inviting Brits to California and Florida – but this month there have been very few of them.

Once upon I time I was on a ferry between Put-in-Bay, a village located on an island just off the coast of Ohio where they celebrate getting drunk and “breaking down” with their cars as the islanders go from bar to bar, and the mainland, where they get swiftly drunk after a quiet trip with friends.

Then he appeared. In navy color from pants to t-shirt. Firefighter. Logo’d at the breast. Branded bag at his side. So muscled and sharp with his lines. As the boat proceeded away from drunkendness, he reached down and picked up a light beer and opened it. He was at the bow of the ship on the vehicle deck. The lowest to passengers. The boat bucked and splashed. He sipped. Water covered him. The passengers gasped. He smiled at the fragility of it all, to no one, as he got soaked. We all died.

      A memory. I share.

      • djcoastermark

Oh yes, the memories of Put-In-Bay. The Roundhouse, dancing the night away at Frosties. Missing the last ferry back to the mainland at night, having to sleep on the Miller Ferry dock. ( lesson learned, pitch a tent for the weekend at the state park) Having a blast at Lonz’s Winery on Middle Bass. Missing the last boat , Sonny S, of the night back to the mainland. ( rented a cabin next time) Notice a pattern?

“Current-borne, wave-flung, tugged hugely by the whole might of ocean, the jellyfish drifts in the tidal abyss. The light shines through it, and the dark enters it. Borne, flung, tugged from anywhere to anywhere, for in the deep sea there is no compass but nearer and farther, higher and lower, the jellyfish hangs and sways; pulses move slight and quick within it, as the vast diurnal pulses beat in the moondriven sea. Hanging, swaying, pulsing, the most vulnerable and insubstantial creature, it has for its defense the violence and power of the whole ocean, to which it has entrusted its being, its going, and its will.

“But here rise the stubborn continents. The shelves of gravel and the cliffs of rock break from water baldly into air, that dry, terrible outerspace of radiance and instability, where there is no support for life. And now, now the currents mislead and the waves betray, breaking their endless circle, to leap up in loud foam against rock and air, breaking….

Why, oh why did I read the comments on a FB post about a boy who died from the flu? My head hurts from so many Trumpanzees and anti-vaxxers proudly displaying their ignorance in public.

One particularly asinine comment was from a proud Trump supporter who responded to one person’s suggestion that people ought to visit Kenya to see why vaccines are so desperately needed by saying that she didn’t want to visit a SHITHOLE (spelled in all caps) country. Ohh, if I could punch that dumbass through the screen…

    • Treant

I was advised that the flu shot sucked in terms of effectiveness this year.

I was also advised that it’s the reason I was only moderately sick for 10 days instead of violently and desperately sick for 2 weeks (and with an arrhythmia, that’s no joke). While technically ineffective, it still gave some resistance, enough to render me semi-functional.

I actually heard a newscaster in the last day of two mention something about the Taliban doing something in Afg. I didn’t pay close enough attention but still hung onto the surprise factor of hearing the name again in the news regarding that hotel attack. I wonder if the two are connected?

You cannot make the revolution. You cannot buy the revolution. You can only be the revolution. It is either in your spirit, or it is nowhere.
    — Ursula Le Guin, The Disposessed

    • Moebym of the Returners

      Oh, no!

      • coram nobis

Joe might want to do a post. She was important, among other things, for The Left Hand of Darkness, a 1969 novel that explored themes of sex and gender and was a groundbreaker in exploring gender identity. It’s one of her best-known works and well-remembered.

Her father was Alfred Kroeber, an anthropologist at UC Berkeley who brought Ishi, a survivor of the California genocide, to public notice.

The Revolution is in the individual spirit, or it is nowhere. It is for all, or it is nothing. If it is seen as having any end, it will never truly begin. We can’t stop here. We must go on. We must take the risks.

So what do you guys think of the Illuminati conspiracy Republicans are shooting out now? You’d think even Trumpers wouldn’t be stupid enough to fall for this crap but they are..

    • Sam_Handwich

it’s desperate and it’s not working ….tho it has spread to places like Shapiro’s dailywire, which isn’t necessarily pro-trump

      • Dramphooey

I hope it isn’t working. I got a little depressed today. I think the Democrats scored a victory with the shutdown but today some supposed progressives were wailing on Twitter about how the Republicans were claiming we blinked. I think the Democrats who surrendered are the ones repeating a bot-narrative, not the ones in the Congress.

        • Oscarlating Wildely

“today some supposed progressives were wailing”

          Rinse, repeat.

        • Sam_Handwich

Every Republican these days is either Parsons or Syme. I actually read a tweet the other day describing how many FBI agents are shocked at how the Republicans are attacking them because, as law and order types, many are Republicans.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

The FBI agents need to rethink their political allegiance because the idea that the GOP gives a holy shit about law & order crap or keeping the nation safe is pure bullshit. Unless they want to be basically thoughtless storm troopers to act as the thralls of amoral oligarchs, they better get with the program and kick the GOP’s ass right here, right now.

Here’s the thing: Melania Trump was (and still is) a beautiful and educated woman in a town full of rich men (real rich, not Trump rich), many of whom would have actually loved her and given her not only a wonderful life, but as many children as she wanted. Yet she chose a joke of a man who New York society shunned, and whos celebrity was based on being a clownish blowhard.

That makes me think that either she’s cut from the same cloth as he is, or she was put up to this – an “arranged” marriage, if you will.

    • Lazycrockett

She is not that beautiful, not that educated since she falsified her college creds. Shes a fucking grifter and why anyone is still giving her lee way is beyond me.

      • Lumpy Gaga

Only Melania can give her lei away.

        • Treant

And if you’re an attractive man, I’m sure Melanoma has leid you.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

I can’t believe that she is having buyer’s remorse as much as a sense of being stuck– and I don’t think she’s the brightest bulb in the sky. It’s one thing to be in NYC where you can blend, even if people hate you. It’s another to be the center of practically every article in every paper everywhere. Biggest regret I see from her is being in DC. I think she’s the same cloth as him but really didn’t want this much scrutiny.

And I think she envies Tiffany. I mean, shit, who doesn’t? Girl got out. Melania’s in the Sunken Place.

    • Treant

Was beautiful, perhaps. Is? I tend to dislike plastic and rubber. Educated, no.

I’m tempted to figure she went with the biggest number in terms of the offer but wasn’t smart enough to check the fine print or validate the actual richness of the coot she married.

    • DreadPikathulhu

I think she was figured that he’d drop dead in under twenty years and she’s be able to return to Escortia a wealthy widow and live out the rest of her life in obscurity.

      • Treant

Instead, she’s gonna be the ex-First Lady and followed for the rest of her life, every move photographed and reported on, usually negatively. She won’t be able to get a poke from the pool boy without it ending up in the tabloids.

Schadenfreude turns me on a little, I’ve found.

    • She was pretty before all the plastic surgery.

Now? She’s just a robot inches away from the uncanny valley.

      • kareemachan

I finalized a second soap recipe, this one heavy in olive oil and very conditioning for winter. It’s superior to my previous recipe and even features decent lather, which sure as hell isn’t coming from the olive oil. I credit the oatmeal for adding some sugars to the mix and also helping to sustain the lather and break up the soap crystals a little bit.

The current mix gassed my husband out of the shower, it’s strongly scented with cedarwood and vanilla. I like it.

This leaves me at loggerheads with nothing currently being developed. I have:

      1) A summer soap–more cleansing
      2) A winter soap–more conditioning
      3) Laundry soap
      4) Gardener’s soap–highly cleansing, can be used on glass, stovetops, pots, or hands

I now have to look for a hydrogenated soy wax substitute, though. Hydrogenated oils are being removed from all foods, which means the prices are already going sky-high.

As adorable as this is to watch on screen (and it IS adorable), it’s also a reminder that my fondness for kitties has its limits (not in MY bedroom when I’m trying to sleep, thank you!). When I used to stay w/ my BFF here in Sacra-tomato—before I moved back here—we would always have a “Ritual De-Catifying” of whichever room I was going to be sleeping in (since they’ve just about always had 5 or more cats, de-catifying was no mean feat!).

      • AmeriCanadian

Before I purchased an automatic feeder for my cat, she used to jump up on the bed around 4 or 5 AM and if I didn’t wake up she would consistently tap me. Three taps in a row meant she wanted to be fed. The feeder was a dogsend but she learned what time it was set for and would wait patiently by it, at times an hour before it went off. I don’t know if she knew what time it was or if it was hunger pangs. Either way it was uncanny.
