KENTUCKY: Second Student Dead In Mass Shooting, 14 Others Shot, Gunman Is 15 Year-Old Boy [VIDEO]

An update on this morning’s mass shooting:

A shooting Tuesday at a rural high school in Kentucky left two students dead and 19 others injured, 14 from gunshot wounds, Gov. Matt Bevin said during an early-afternoon news conference. The gunman was a 15-year-old boy, authorities said during a news conference early Tuesday afternoon.

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he’s sending prayers of comfort and healing to those affected by the shooting. Speaking on the floor of the U.S. Senate, McConnell says his staff in western Kentucky is at Marshall County High School and is in close contact with local officials.

  • tbj5

Yeah, Mitch, let’s see those healing prayers bring the two dead students back to life.

    • Barry William Teske

      He might be awhile…

      • Tawreos

but I thought his god could do anything

Blood on your hands and your party’s hands, Mitch.

    Blood on your hands.

    • Todd20036

      they don’t care

  • SkokieGuy [Snark McSnarkyface]

The speed of Trump’s message of condolence will be directly related to the amount of melanin possessed by the shooter.

  • madknits

    Prayers of comfort and healing.
How about doing something useful, you stupid fuck?

  • pogdaddle

    Praying away, again, in McConnellville

  • Lazycrockett

    Yay Guns!!

  • crusaderrabbit
    • canoebum

Upvote for the avatar, definitely. (For those who are too young to know, before there was Rocky and Bullwinkle, there was Crusader Rabbit and Rags).

      • FancyThat

sigh… Mitch sending “prayers of comfort and healing” to his home state. Maybe on the way home from depositing his NRA paycheck at the bank, he can stop by the florist’s shop and order some fucking carnations for the school.

        • David Walker

That would entail doing something tangible, even if someone on his staff were directed to do it. No, as tends to be noted, sending your thoughts and prayers is the least we can do. And it doesn’t cost anything. Perfection for a a scumbag politician.

        • canoebum

The NRA should be disbanded for providing material support to terrorists.

    • JCF

Note: I have multiple fingers (and two hands).

  • Uncle Mark

No worries. The NRA will be promoting back-to-school Kevlar vests as the new, hip trend

    • KCMC

No joke, parents ate up backpacks last year which were designed to be bullet-proof shields.

      • Uncle Mark

WTF ?!! How is this NOT more important than abortion to Christian (or ANY) parents?

        • Mark

Because once ya slide outta the womb, you’re on your own.

          • CanuckDon

Has the NRA come out with their bullet-proof blankies yet? Soon to be hot sellers.

        • Tawreos

Because they can fundraise on abortion but the NRA will out spend them on guns.

        • Joseph Miceli

Little fetus babies are innocent of sin . Once they pass through a dirty vagina they are tainted and full of sin and on their own !/s

        • ColdCountry

There was a cartoon, after one of the school shootings, of two parents kneeling on the floor of their living room, facing opposite directions. A paper with the shooting headline was on the floor between them, Both looked highly distressed. The woman was hugging her child, the man was hugging his semi-automatic rifle. Call me sexist if you wish.

      • (((GC)))

The Second Amendment was intended to protect the states and their militias from the threat of a tyrannical federal standing army, and to protect slave patrols from federal interference. The “individual right to own a gun” was only invented in 2008.

Notice that in the version that was ratified, the amendment’s wording mentions “a free State“, not a free “country”.

Madison’s original version of the Second Amendment reads as follows:

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed, and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country: but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms, shall be compelled to render military service in person.”

This version of the Second Amendment didn’t fit well with slave-owners because it included words like “country,” words they felt could be used to justify the creation of a national militia that would include freed slaves—a backdoor way for a Northern president to free Southern slaves. And so Patrick Henry lobbied James Madison to rewrite the Second Amendment into the version we know today.

“So Few Americans Understand What the Second Amendment Is Really About—or Its Dark History” (Thom Hartmann)

(This also ties in with the Electoral College being instituted as a way to artificially give Southern slaveholding states more power in presidential elections.)

    • FAEN

Hey I just saw a commercial for ‘Trump Bear’ which I honestly thought was SNL skit I had stumbled upon but it’s an actual thing so NRA Kevlar vests for teens wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Each day I am more and more convinced we’re living in a ‘Black Mirror’ episode.

  • hdtex
  • gaycuckhubby

    No longer surprising,
    But still horrible

  • LOL

  • safari

This is why threats like those from that 19 year old who threatened to shoot up CNN must be taken at their word. Period.

    • SoCalGal20

He was let out on $10,000 bond. White privilege, watch it work!

    • #DJTK5F

And why Trump’s repeated exhortations to violence against CNN makes him complicit and culpable.

  • Barry William Teske

So, like, what is the NRA going rate for prayers and comfort and healing?

    • safari

      Fundraising Borscht cookoff.

  • safari

Can we stop with the “never thought it’d happen here” as if the urban areas have a monopoly on school shootings?

    • Pip

Looking at the numbers “never thought it’d happen here” isn’t valid any more.

      • KCMC

for a while. white school shooting been suburban.

      • lymis

If the freaking AMISH aren’t safe in their own schools, nobody is.

  • Judas Peckerwood

“U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he’s sending prayers of comfort and healing to those affected by the shooting.”

What, prayers but no thoughts? Do the prayers even work without the thoughts?

    • David Walker

You expect the turtle to think? Thoughts come from thinking, and there’s not a republican’t in congress who is capable of thinking. So, yeah. Prayers of both comfort and healing take less time.

  • Judas Peckerwood

If only all those kids had been permitted to conceal carry in school, things might have turned out much differently.

    • EdA

      And maybe some were carrying??

    • jimbo65

That argument has always been horseshit. But it always seems to bedazzle the rubes into compliance.

  • Cuberly Deux

    GOP = Complicit

    • Joe in PA

No shit. But look on the bright side…now the GOP will be in full-court-press mode for “charter schools”. I just saw a FB post from Toomey about #SchoolChoiceWeek. One of the first comments was “Good, I want to send my kids to some place where they won’t get shot”. Probably from someone that has loaded handguns by the bed. Arrrgh.

  • MSW
  • Jerry Hinnant

Prayers and comfort have been sent! Everything should be fine and dandy now. Let’s just move on and wait for the next mass shooting. So be saving up those prayers of comfort again.

  • kanehau

Wait! Was the gunkid an immigrant? If so… Arrest the democrats!

  • safari
    • dude. i don’t know what the fuss is all about. trump is maga. anyone who says differently is just living in the real world.

Can you imagine what it’s like today to be the U.S. ambassador headquartered in one of the countries Trump labeled as a shithole?

I’m surprised those countries haven’t expelled them all.

Good for them. Perhaps we could send the Donald to negotiate with them.

      • Ray Taylor

Good idea. They built the fire to impress him.

  • safari

    Never remember. Always forget.

  • SoCalGal20

Horrible. Sad. Tragic. It’s not going to fucking change anytime soon. And that’s all I’ve got.

  • Richard

So old Mitch is sending prayers….. why, bless his heart.. we all know how prayers fixes everything…….. .ugh!

  • Bluto

Fuck, why bother. There will be the usual avalanche of firearm defenses, liberals will be blamed, worthless thoughts & prayers, a dumbass candle light vigil & makeshift memorial, wayne pierre gleefully sitting on a pile of dead kids watching gun sales rise, the gop calling this troubling, fox news saying it’s the price of freedom and NOTHING WILL BE DONE.
Just fuck it & fuck every enabler straight to fucking hell.

  • Natty Enquirer

Why, that’s the very least you could do, isn’t it, Mitch?

  • HZ81

Thoughts and prayers. Oh, and bodybags

  • Pip

But the guns are okay, right? I know the bullets took one for the team, but that’s what they’re designed for. My concern is with the guns. None were harmed during this, right?

    • Silver Badger

We must send our thoughts and prayers for the safety of the guns everywhere. /s
      (Edited to add /s)

      • Pip

I almost edited mine to add the sarcasm, but figured it was pretty clear. 🙂

  • Treant

Look, it’s clear that nobody with any ability to stop this shit cares, so thoughts and prayers.

  • Uncle Mark

Someday, someone is going to lose too much to a crazed, mass-murdering gunman, and the vengeance in kind upon those enabling this will be inevitable

  • Ninja0980

Expect to see the BS that taking Gawd out of schools caused this, instead of lax gun laws.

  • Rex

Honestly, how do these people sleep at night?
(Not those committing gun crimes, but the legislators who refuse to do anything about it.)

    • Natty Enquirer

With prescription pills bought with gun lobby money.

    • canoebum

It’s easy when you have no conscience to bother you.

  • Scott Wyant

I make a point of sharing this every time we have one of these senseless shootings. Sadly it gets used too often.

  • Galvestonian

Prayers always work … maybe Russian should give more money to the NRA.

  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Where’s the GOP commercial that announces they are part of this murderous spree like they did with the Democrats.

  • FAEN

People are dead because of guns. Clearly now is not the time to talk about common sense gun regulation. Neither will tomorrow….or ever.

If only 14 years olds whose brains are still forming were allowed to carry guns this wouldn’t happen 🙄

  • EdA

It’s too too bad, too too sorry. That’s three kids whose lives are over. (You have to include the teenage killer.) And a dozen teenagers whose lives have been damaged, physically for sure and psychologically as well, quite likely.

And who’s going to pay for the medical bills? It won’t be the National Rifle Association, a tax-exempt 501(c)(4) organization taking in over $300 million a year. And somehow, I don’t anticipate that either Mitch McConnell or Rand Paul will be contributing much.

    • Lizard

As always, those lives are “the price of freedom” to the mealy-mouthed assholes sucking up NRA donation teat.

      • JAKvirginia

Why are their lives the “price of freedom” and not McConnell’s? Or Paul’s? Or any of the other gun-humpers?

    • lymis

And, once again, remember. Baking a cake is participating in someone’s wedding, but manufacturing a gun is not participating in someone’s murder.

      • whollyfool

  • Lizard

    Something something shithole country.

    I can’t even anymore.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

You know what, I can’t even anymore; so I’m just going to leave this right here because the fact is, it’s the truth….

    • Lizard

Yep. If the violent deaths of two dozen upper-middle-class white first-graders didn’t do it, nothing will.

The NRA might as well own this country.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Bought and paid for via the U.S. House & Senate.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

          And Russia…

Sad to say but it’s true.
When nothing was done about Newtown, you knew the fight was over.

    • Tor

“The price of freedom.” I need to puke now.

    • David Walker

Too soon, I know, but seeing this picture made me think that whoever is in charge of supplying the kids who play dead seem to have hired fewer and somewhat older teen actors. Can you comment on this, Alex Jones?

    • Ore Carmi

  • TheManicMechanic

NRA: Relax, everyone, all the guns are safe. Nothing to talk about, except for maybe the big firearms sale at the downtown armory this weekend! Buy one, get one half off! Extra savings on armor defeating rounds! Discount for children under 13!

  • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

    Hey everyone, I got this.

    Thoughts ‘n prayers.

    • David Walker

Thank you. That will go a long way in the healing the shot or otherwise injured.
I was a little confused in this morning’s report about sending ministers to the school. It’s usually counselors, but I guess maybe this is a “thoughts and prayers” school district, so McTurtle has given a truly blessed suggestion. Ministers? Fucking ministers?

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I was going to post, Shits ‘n giggles since it’s funny that for this long we’ve allowed ourselves to be held captive to terrorists.

  • Bronxboy47

15-year-old white boy? Black boys, you’re letting white boys put you in the shade where mass shootings are concerned. Aren’t you supposed to be the most dangerous, wicked animals on the face of the earth? What’s up with that? It’s certainly not as though you couldn’t find something to be pissed off about.

    • Lizard

It’s almost like that rhetoric was always an untrue, racist smear campaign.

But that couldn’t possibly be the case. /s

Meh. That mental health thing is bullshit. It’s an excuse by the right wing to ignore gun control.

      • acde

That is so and a convenient decoy. But I meant the lack of mental health services and awareness in communites generally so there is no provision of help when called for or even noticing the signs of trouble/disturbance in young people at a time in their lives when there is still a little hope of getting better [from abuse, often at home, and bullying, both of which are long lasting trauma like PTSD in the military]
