GUAM: Catholic Archbishop Denies Raping His Nephew

Catholic News Service reports:

An embattled archbishop in Guam has denied an allegation that he raped his nephew nearly 20 years ago, when his accuser was a teen. Mark Apuron, nephew of Guam’s Archbishop Anthony Apuron, filed a lawsuit Jan. 10, claiming that his uncle raped him in a Church bathroom in 1989 or 1990. This is the fifth lawsuit to accuse the archbishop of sexual abuse of minors during his time as a pastor and bishop.

“God is my witness: I deny all allegations of sexual abuse made against me, including this last one,” wrote Apuron in a Jan. 18 statement, according to Guam Pacific Daily News. “All of these allegations have been mentored and promoted by the same source and this one seems particularly timed to influence the verdict of the Vatican trial conducted by the Holy See, as a last resort out of fear that I may be exonerated,” he continued.

In addition to this claim, Apuron faces four other accusations from former altar boys, who charged the archbishop with abuse in the 1970s when he served as a parish priest in Agat. The first allegations against the archbishop were made public in May 2016. Mark’s attorney, David Lujan, said that his client was too ashamed and embarrassed to tell his family about the alleged abuse until recently.

‘God is my witness: I deny all allegations of sexual abuse made against me, including this last one,’
Excellent, ‘god’ can show up to testify for you in court, pedo.

  • Todd20036

Because nephews always make raping accusations against their uncles falsely.
OTOH, the RCC embraced Trump and Moore, so fucking kids is no scandal with them anyway.
    So it’s all good.

He’ll give him refuge in the Vatican where he can commit sexual assault without fear of reprisal.

      • ChrisMorley

He’s already at the Vatican facing some “Tribunal” for all his abuses.

In his denial he pathetically cries for sympathy
‘As I lay sick after another surgery and I face the final judgment
approaching evermore close, having lost interest in this world, God is my witness: I deny all allegations of sexual abuse made against me, including this last one.’

Excuse me? Why the fuck aren’t the *proper* authorities handling this? Last I checked Guam wasn’t a theocracy, nor is it a Christian sharia law state.

    • GayOldLady

These are likely decades old charges and probably outside the statute of limitations.

      • Snownova

Some crimes shouldn’t have a statute of limitations. Rape and murder first and foremost.

    • Statistics Palin

The Catholic Church must be prosecuted under the RICO statutes for routinely aiding priests, bishops, and Cardinals to escape prosecution for child rape. It is a criminal organization operating under color of religion.

      • Macbill

You’re right. It is obvious there is a pattern of deliberate obfuscation of criminal activity. It smells of R.I.C.O.

There was never any doubt, really. They’re using him primarily to get their judges on the federal bench. That was the deal from the start of Trump’s run for the presidency.

Trump imposes steep tariffs on imported solar panels and washing machines

Restrictions aim to boost US manufacturing, but critics warn they
will slow shift to renewable energy and increase consumer costs

      • David Walker

It won’t do squat for US manufacturing, especially considering the fucking moron’s stance on climate change (solar panels) and the environment (un- or poorly-treated water thanks to relaxed/no standards for outflow from sewerage plants. Plus, banana republicans.

I went to college in a very small town in central PA. This was mid-’60s, so it was still pre-any thought about air, water, environment, that kind of wimpy stuff. A creek bordered the south and west of the town, and it was all right. But there was a laundromat on the bank of the creek and, because it wasn’t illegal, all of the water from the laundromat poured right into the creek. On a busy night, because of the slow current of the creek, one could see a flotilla of iceberg-like mounds of soap suds floating downstream.

    • Treant

You can usually tell by the rhetoric. “He wasn’t even cute enough to fuck until he was at least 11!”

  • Joseph Miceli

I was once a little liar.
From age 9 to 13, I lied. I lied constantly to stay out of trouble. Next day I had to tell more lies to keep consistent with the lies I told the day before, plus a new bunch of lies that day. Next day I’d have to tell lies to keep up with the lies from two days ago, the lies from yesterday….you get the idea.
I remember sitting on the edge of my bed one morning at age 13 and thinking about all of that days scheduled lies and I just stopped. I blanked out for a minute and I remember just saying “No. I’m not doing this anymore.” Since then I do not lie. You may not like me, I may fuck up and have to apologize (which I find garners more respect than actually doing the right thing all the time…go figure!) but I don’t lie.
I remember that when I WAS a horrible little liar that I actually BELIEVED my lies. I could stand there and look you in the eye and believe with all my heart that I never called so and so “that” or broke that or whatever. I created my own reality.
I wonder if these bishops realize the horror of what they’ve done and some of them somehow believe their own lies. If so I have no pity for them. They need to have that moment of clarity, stop lying and pay for what they’ve done. If a 13 year old boy can have that moral courage, than surely a fucking Bishop can find the backbone and the faith to do so as well!

  • JWC

    All in the Family????

  • Well at least Josef Ratzinger is no longer the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) that oversees the Church’s sex abuse investigations. He was Prefect from 1981 to 2005. He had his own scandal back in Munich, Germany where he secretly transferred a pedophile priest and ignored repeated warnings while the priest went on to abuse for decades. And as Prefect he issued a secret order to all Bishops worldwide to remain silent about sex abuse cases and not inform police. So they bumped him up to Pope.

And it’s good that Ratzinger’s replacement, Cardinal William Levada, (2005 – 2012) is no longer Prefect either. He had his own scandal back in Portland, Oregon and San Francisco where he refused to turn abusers over to police, and spent a lot of time intimidating victims and making secret payments and trying to keep the pedophilia scandal hushed up. Though he worked diligently to cover up the Church’s pedophilia scandal, he and his secret lover Archbishop George Hugh Niederauer with whom he shared a secret condo in Long Beach, fought tirelessly to defeat gay marriage.

And it’s good that Levada’s replacement, Gerhard Ludwig Müller, (2012 – 2017) is no longer Prefect. He reinstated a pedophile priest, and systematically thwarted sex abuse investigations into a boys choir run by Ratzinger’s brother, and is currently being sued.

So let’s see. Who’s the new Prefect? Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer. He’s a long-time CDF insider, appointed Secretary (second in command) of the CDF by Ratzinger. He served in that position under Levada and Müller.
