FBI Investigates Whether Kremlin-Tied Russian Banker Funneled Money To The NRA To Help Trump Campaign

McClatchy reports:

The FBI is investigating whether a top Russian banker with ties to the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidency, two sources familiar with the matter have told McClatchy.

FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said. It is illegal to use foreign money to influence federal elections.

The extent to which the FBI has evidence of money flowing from Torshin to the NRA, or of the NRA’s participation in the transfer of funds, could not be learned. However, the NRA reported spending a record $55 million on the 2016 elections, including $30 million to support Trump – triple what the group devoted to backing Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race. Most of that was money was spent by an arm of the NRA that is not required to disclose its donors.

These people do realize that very few groups of people successfully become Oligarchs right? The majority of those that try get slaughtered.

    • The_Wretched

History of governments isn’t a topic they care about. You’d think the’d care about the long history of oligarchs being hanged or beheaded but I’ve seen not the faintest whisper that they do. They seem to think like Thiel that they can just jet off to an island somewhere and avoid the eventual mobs.

When is the next Oligarch slaughtering anyway ?

  • The_Wretched

Trump’s team and the RNC certainly didn’t have a 2016 ground game. It was remarked on at the time. It’s interesting that the NRA (of all orgs) did. Makes me wonder about how much else of the 2016 election was outsourced.

In good government land, there isn’t a spending cap and congress has a budget. The budget sets spending instead of this artificial BS. Instead, we have this bizarre situation where Congress taxes and spends but doesn’t authorizes the government to pay for what it’s already bought.

Without a doubt with the strides they have made. I’m not that concerned with them have a nuke. The pudgy one from NK is playing Dotard and he has taken the bait. China and Russia will let Kim go to the brink and then rein him in. It would not end well for anyone’s concern.

    • Karl Dubhe 2

The Chinese know what would happen to that country if they didn’t evade the sanctions. They support the nation on their border because they don’t want to deal with the fall out from them collapsing.

They also know that Trump isn’t going to do a damn thing about it.

      • robindaybird

this is basically it, if NK completely falls apart, China and South Korea will both be dealing with millions of refugees – China does not want to deal with it, and I don’t think S. Korea is equipped to deal with the influx.

        • canoebum

Not only that, a unified Korea would put a strong US ally on China’s southern border. It’s the same reason they invaded in 1950.
