FLORIDA: Rick Scott Condemns Trump’s “Absolutely Wrong” Racism In Bid To Protect Likely Senate Run

“If this report is true, it is absolutely wrong to say or think this. I do not think this way, nor do I agree with this kind of sentiment. I represent Florida, and we are an amazing melting pot where over 250 languages are spoken. I work every day to make this the most welcoming state for everyone — Haitians, Cubans, Venezuelans, and others from all around the world that call Florida home. I’m incredibly proud of our diversity.” – Florida Gov. Rick Scott, whom Trump has urged to challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson.

  • Jerry Hinnant

To late Skelator! You are forever tied to Trump. Your support for him as president makes you just as guilty as him!

  • Kelly Lape

it’s absolutely wrong to think this way… vote for me so I can enact his policies…

    right.

    • carrot festival

You left out the orange rimmed lip utterance…”if this report is true”. An asskisser to the very last pucker.

That’s information they won’t release Tuesday with his medical report, should they release anything. Why would they release his physical results? The “no evidence of ever having bone spurs” isn’t all that helpful.

      • More are coming, not having any other choice. Basically everywhere Puerto Ricans have already settled and have family, island families are now moving to join them.

Yeah, Florida is one of the biggest destinations, as are most of the Gulf Coast states, but also New York and other locales.

        • Gustav2

Scott was origninally using the number from passengers on the flights from Puerto Rico to Florida, way over 300,000 in that number. But your are right, they didn’t all stay in FL.

        • bkmn

Does anyone know of any efforts to get these people registered to vote wherever they end up?

          • Hank

I read, that after Hurricane Marie, as Puerto Ricans arrived, they were helped getting edging, signing up for aid AND getting drivers licenses in the State of FL. With the licenses, they have the ID necessary to register to vote.

Ballots in FL are in English, Spanish AND French/Haitian

Yes. The Koch brothers through a christian-ish charity acting as a front are on the ground in Florida actively seeking out refugees from PR.

The Dems… haven’t heard of anything.

      • Bluto

        You mean Sea Mexicans.

      • bkmn

I have seen numbers cited at over 200,000 – more than the margin Trump won Florida by.

… and in other news, the Trump White House announced new offshore drilling leases off Florida.

    • Cuberly Deux

      Ha!

    • JAKvirginia

Only if Trump can get Mar-a-Lago’s property line extended 5 miles out to sea.

  • Ninja0980

Your actions over the past eight years have shown you think the same way he does asshole.
May you go down in flames in your Senate bid.

    • Chucktech

Oh, now, now, he SAID the president was WRONG, that ought to fix that…

  • Tawreos

Someone is lucky Trump owns beachfront property in Florida otherwise they might lose their drilling exception.

    • clay

Trump via Hucklebee-Sanders already backpedaled Zinke’s agreement– “These are going to continue to be negotiations. We’re going to continue to look for places and ways we can make America more energy dominant. If that’s one of them, then we’re going to continue forward in that process. That’s why we’ve opened up drilling in ANWR, . . . ” 1/11/18

She might think she’s just re-directing the question towards her prepared talking points, but she’s making statements about the Administration’s future directions.

    • Uncle Mark

It’s not just that Trump owns property in Florida; it’s that Florida voted for him in 2016. If you notice, where offshore drilling is concerned or even DOJ enforcement of marajuana bans, these are focused to punish the blue states. Trump is an obvious petty & vindictive little man. Fortunately, this obviousness will help these blue states when they contest these in court in claiming a partisan bias in these permits and enforcement.

      • trumP had a 1.2% lead over Clinton, that’s not a lot in my book. Florida is not quite as red as some paint it…

    • DreadPikathulhu

Meanwhile, on Earth Prime, we’re deep into month 12 of Benghazi hearings and the GOP is discussing reopening the investigations into Whitewater and FileGate. Meanwhile, perpetually aggrieved losing candidate Donald Trump is using his daily show on TrumpTV to call for investigations into the “rigged” election and Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, which “Crooked Hillary” Clinton won by 80,000 votes due to the votes of “illegals” from “shithole” countries.

We could have had it. I wish we had it. But it would have been a different kind of Hell.

      • Todd20036

Maybe, but either way, the GOP showed their stripes.

And now, we have WWIII to worry about

        • Chucktech

And essentially no State Dept. Or Education Dept. And a stolen SCOTUS seat. And abdication of our leadership role in the world. And a colossal mortification in the White House.
          The list goes on.

          • Harley

On the stolen SCOTUS seat, if the Democratics win back the senate, well, the republicans DID set the standard for SCOTUS obstruction.

        • another_steve

Everything we’re living through today – suffering through today – will seem in retrospect like a comedy, if and when Trump or Pence get to replace a Supreme Court seat currently held by Justice Kennedy or one of the four progressives on the court today.

For the theofascist right – Trump’s base – that’s the big fish.

          The payoff they’re waiting for.

He has NEVER behaved the way a President should. That, alone, should be reason enough for us to stop treating him like one. The man-baby clearly doesn’t respect the office, and has disgraced the job, and embarrassed Americans (those of us with the decency to be embarrassed.) He is a disgrace and has clearly demonstrated how he fails to understand the heart of this country, and does not represent most Americans. His fat orange ass needs to go now !!!!

    • paganguy

Evidently, we’re not though. Or at least about 1/3 of us aren’t.

Let’s retire the ‘we’re better than this,’ this IS what we are.

      • Chucktech

That’s exactly what the results of the election revealed. Yes, thanks to a bullshit, anachronistic system, but that’s our system. Ergo, that’s exactly who we are.

  • Cuberly Deux

Hmmm, maybe I’m being pedantic but I don’t see him condemning donnie. I see him saying those thoughts are unacceptable along with a declaration that he doesn’t share in them.

If he truly condemned Donnie it’d be written differently.

    • Chucktech

Excuse me, Scott did NOT say ” those thoughts are unacceptable,” he said they are, you know, wrong.

      • Cuberly Deux

        lol…

“I didn’t want mustard on my burger”…sends it back.

Basically the degree of gravity he instilled in his comments.

  • VodkaAndPolitics

We have a massive Hatian population, many of which came here in the aftermath of the giant Earthquake. To Be Honest Though, if he wants to win Florida, the better campaign strategy would have been to double down on Trump’s comments. Folks who are sympathetic to people who are different from ourselves wouldn’t vote for him in the first place.

  • Denis

There are a lot of weathy Floridians that vote R. Any dem running against pencil dick here needs to aggressively support reinstating SALT deductions. That’s the easiest route to major Florida blue again.

  • It’s not new, what Donald said yesterday. He sees the entire world through racist eyes. But we all knew this. It was the news media and of course the Republicans who wanted to pretend he wasn’t an ignorant, bigoted racist.

      • sdnative1958

What’s not been obvious about the bum from the very beginning?

        • The problem isn’t that it hasn’t been obvious. It’s that the news media and GOP were both complicit in reframing Donald as a popular populist, rather than what he really is: A brain-damaged more extreme version of Gov. George Wallace.

However, if he is invited to the White House this time around, Kenworthy said he would politely decline.

“I am very proud to represent the U.S. but I don’t stand by (U.S. President Donald) Trump and his cabinet and their policies,” said Kenworthy.

I thought Hillary and Bill were supposed to fix Haiti with the Clinton Foundation??

    • JAKvirginia

      I’ll just assume that’s snark. 🙂

      • YUGE

No, it’s not. They were supposed to do something about Haiti, but never did, except pocket millions in donations to their crime foundation. That’s a FACT JACK.

        • JAKvirginia

I’ve just reminded myself about that old adage about assuming.

Yuge is most emphatically a troll.

I’ve most emphatically blocked him on another thread – and I very rarely block anyone.

  • FAEN

Just FYI: 2017 Voter Registration FL

    37.5% Dem.
    35.4% Rep.
    26.7% NPA (No party)

Dem + NPA = 64.2% of registered voters. That’s our focus.
