Russian Ambassador Patronizes Trump’s DC Hotel

Josh Israel reports at Think Progress:

The head of the self-described “#1 nail art chain in Russia” visited Washington, D.C. on Tuesday morning for a meeting with her country’s new ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Ivanovich Antonov.

A photo posted on Movsisyan’s personal Instagram account and on Nail Sunny’s company Instagram page, shows that the meeting took place at a popular locale for foreign governments eager to please President Donald Trump: the Trump International Hotel.

Despite the emoluments clause, a provision in the United States constitution that prohibits Trump and other federal officials from receiving payments from foreign governments, diplomats from around the world have been holding events at his properties since his 2016 election.

A President is only above the Rule of Law inasmuch a compliant Congress abdicates their responsibility to hold him to that Law…

  • bkmn

Dear Dems – use the GOP’s embrace of corruption as a selling point.

    • Todd20036

And not how blatantly Trump defies those rules.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

    Dear Complicit GOP,
This is ALL on you and we will remind you of this for fucking ever!

  • Bluto

Just how much more obvious does it have to get?

  • shellback

Is there anything about Dullard Thump that ISN’T connected to Russia?

  • thatotherjean

Because of course he does. Patronizing a hotel the President owns is a lot classier method of bribery than passing cash to his aides in a paper bag.

    • Judas Peckerwood

I’d be willing to bet that the passing cash in a paper bag happens as well.

      • EdA

I suspect that that’s actually how Clarence Thomas’ “lobbyist” wife gets paid.

  • Joe in PA

Our local paper has a new syndicated “editorial” writer: Christine Flowers, or as DataLounge calls her Republicunt.

In her column today she said that a judge ruled that the prez wasn’t in violation of the emoluments clause (they didn’t). They ruled that the challengers lacked standing.

    Fucking lying liars.

    • GeneInSJ

I cannot stand that woman. I see her articles on and I try not to read them. Almost everything revolves around abortion.

      • Joe in PA

This is the first and last time I will read her articles. Nasty, hateful, sarcastic, mean don’t begin to describe her. Oh, BTW, I’m not sure if she is replacing, but in the same space in our Reading paper used to be Michelle Malkin. Same category.

Also, to your point she mentioned Gorsuch as a “friend to the unborn” Great.

        • Guest

Gorsuch has unborn friends because everyone who actually has been born can’t stand his sorry ass.

        • Ragnar Lothbrok

That Malkin creature has zero human DNA- Fact!

    • greenmanTN

Our local paper has commentaries by Cal Thomas, a hard line Catholic and despicable human being.

We also get Leonard Pitts, whom I love.

      • Joe in PA

Oh yeah, Cal Thomas alternates in ours as well. I can’t, I just can’t. 🙁

        • greenmanTN

      • Nic Peterson

I thought Cal Thomas was undead? Still? He’s gotta be around 150 years old.

        • greenmanTN

Maybe he is. It’s been a while since I got the daily paper, but I hated his articles when I did.

      • Guest

Pitts is one of the best, anywhere.

    • The_Wretched

“lacking standing” is a rightwing judges’ way of off loading a case they know they don’t want to rule on.

    • EdA

It has been a matter of principle with the Chief Injustice of the United States, the unlamented Antonin Scalia, and his shadow Clarence Thomas that human Americans almost invariably lack standing whereas American corporations almost automatically do have standing.

  • greenmanTN

Can you say “emolluments”? I knew you could!

  • That_Looks_Delicious

The headline should’ve been ‘Trump’s Immediate Supervisor Patronizes Trump’s DC Hotel’, Joe.

  • Professor Barnhardt

Follow Zach Everson to keep up with who is staying at the Trump Hotel in DC.

    Hat tip, David Fahrenthold:

  • Bambino

I see the Russian ambassador ordered the same model of wife as the dotard.

    • Renfield

They worked as a pole dancing crew back in the day.

      • coram nobis

        You mean, in Warsaw?

    • kareemachan

      Stepford wives….

  • JWC

surprising how?? This is Trump fucking America

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

As always, Trump and the Russians are ‘subtle’ about their dealings.

However, in all seriousness, what does it say about the state of U.S. intelligence/security that such a blatant act of dubious pandering to Russia can go on without a whisper from the GOP? BTW, that’s a rhetorical question.

  • TampaDink

Rules like the emoluments clause only apply to Democrats.

    • Halou

Rules in general only apply to Democrats.

    • We’re beyond rules. We’re now talking felonies being totally okie-dokie for Republicans, but pre-convicted capital crimes for Dems upon mere accusation.

  • They’re not even trying to hide the treason anymore.

And little Jeffy Sessions is like, “Wait, ah din’t have to commit perjury durin’ mah confirmation hearin’s?! Coulda just come right out and said, “Sure! We met with lotsa Russians! Ah even wouldn’t be here as AG nominee if not for their help gettin’ Trump elected.’ Well gosh!”

  • Dayglo

So, I suppose there are no rules anymore. A free-for-all. No such thing as an Emoluments Clause. Everyone is cool with this?

  • anne marie in philly

OF COURSE IT DID! would dump want the Russians staying at the holiday inn? I THINK NOT!

  • Statistics Palin

Does Trump provide free leaky hookers, too?

  • GanymedeRenard

    Of course.

  • Mike_in_the_Tundra

Trump Properties – where good taste goes to die.

  • infmom

Doesn’t cost him a cent to call the Kremlin from there. He just talks to the painting of Trump on the wall.

  • John Ruff

We’ll of course the cockroaches in trumpf’s D.C. hotel would be Russian.

  • JCF

There isn’t a single thing about this story (“#1 nail art chain in Russia”???) that doesn’t SUCK.

  • Congress can waive the foreign Emoluments Clause but must affirmatively vote to do so. Simply taking no action doesn’t count as a waiver. And to date, neither chamber of Congress has voted to waive it for Trump.

In addition, Trump has also repeatedly violated the domestic Emoluments Clause, which Congress cannot waive.

  • olandp

Did the Russian ambassador bring his own hooker?

    • Tom Ato

Not necessary. They have hot and cold running hookers at the dump hotel.

  • leastyebejudged

It amuses me that it’s so easy to follow the money of this administration, yet the media toadies are STILL too lazy to do their fucking job and follow ALL the money.

    Kind of a scam really.

  • Veylon

Honestly, if I were Secretary of State in any country right now, I would be ordering my ambassadors to patronize Trump properties whenever possible and asking Trump’s company for recommendations when not possible. If Trump’s willing to sell his country for the price of a few rooms, then now is a good time to buy.
