Trump Golf Course Plants Trees To Block Media

The Hill reports:

A CNN host said in a Saturday broadcast that trees have been placed where the network’s cameras once filmed President Trump playing golf at his Florida golf club.

“Yet today, CNN news cameras did not get any video of President Trump playing golf. And here’s why: where CNN cameras were once positioned, trees appear,” CNN host Ana Cabrera said during a newscast. “Yes, new trees are being planted there.”

The network charged a white truck appeared to have deliberately blocked their camera’s view at the club earlier in the week.

  • Todd20036

Can you imagine the outrage from the Nazis if Obama ever tried to pull a stunt like this?

    • Ninja0980

Faux News and both sides media would have a field day.

    • Nowhereman

I don’t have to imagine. I remember how they pissed and moaned and complained for eight straight years about how much money we were spending on Obama and how he was always on vacation and golfing. (in fact he was the second least vacationing president, next to Carter.) And not a peep about Donnie 2 Scoops who is breaking records left and right on time spent golfing and vacationing, not to mention his stupid adulation rallies. The republicans are the very definition of hypocrisy.

      • killreligion

It presents itself as hypocritical but they are so deep in the confirmation bias and so blatantly unaware of how their brains simply block things that don’t align it’s much more than hypocrisy. It’s like a national state of mental illness has sunk in

I’ve never been able to accept how religion or climate denial etc is so easily accepted. I want to believe people can still think. But after people voted for this pig with all the evidence that he would behave as he is, and now seeing them rationalize it with “he’s so real” etc I’ve begun to believe what I’ve always known: most people are stupid and can’t think for themselves. Not wont, but cannot. Depressing

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

Looks like the Dotard got triggered by CNN’s exposure of his “back-to-work” LIE. Sad!! What a snowflake!

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

    LOL, of course.

Hey CNN, google : Drones w/ Go Pro.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

I wonder if the secret service has some kind of no-fly rule wherever the president visits? If not, we need a swarm of Go-Pros.

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

That could very well be the issue. Even going out

That was a Putin dirty trick against Kasparov, a leading opposition figure.

They do. However, intentionally obscuring one’s actions to hide that one is on vacation constantly?

I say, violate it. Send multiple helicopters and drones. They can’t shoot you all down…and it would be the end of this administration if they even tried.

      • DN

According to parks and recreation, or future presidents will be followed by drones 🙂

      • fkevin

In addition to the probable Secret Service prohibition, the FAA has a 5 mile no fly zone around airports for drones & model airplanes. Mar-a-lago is 2.5 miles from the Palm Beach Airport. Exactly … I can’t imagine Trump caring if anyone knows how much he plays golf, but I’m sure he hates all the fat ass pics that get published every day, ha ha.

  • JAKvirginia

Um… correct me if I’m wrong.

I see a curb, a grassy green space, a fence, and then undergrowth/trees. The fence, I assume is the Trump property line? Then that grassy green space from the curb to the fence is the easement. Did the new trees go there? He can’t do that. Easements are for public utilities, sidewalks, etc. You can’t plant in easements. If that did happen then Trump is breaking the law. Again.

The video wasn’t clear on this. Am I wrong?

    • DN

You haven’t met rand Paul, have you?

    • coram nobis

If the fence is the property line, then what’s outside of it isn’t his property, period, no easement (though I wonder if there are utility easements paralleling the sidewalk). There also may be local zoning laws as to tree planting or view obstruction and such.

I also wonder, looking at Google Maps of Mar-a-Lago, which frontage they’re planting on, whether in front of the club or the S side. Grounds don’t look like a full-fledged golf course but level lawn with maybe a couple of putting greens. (The customer reviews on Google regarding Mar-a-Lago are amusing, avg. 3.2 rating).

      • JAKvirginia

I don’t think this is at Mar-a-Lago. It’s his golf club in West Palm.

        • coram nobis

I’m looking at the Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, between the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean, right on A1A. It’s definitely the former Merriweather estate.

          • JAKvirginia

No, I mean that’s where he golfs. The Mar isn’t big enough for a golf course.

          • coram nobis

I see there’s a “Trump International Golf Club” in W. Palm Beach, adjoining an airport. A lot of road frontage, so that’s a lot of trees to plant.

How many properties does he own in Florida, anyway?

          • JAKvirginia

You would need to ask his creditors. *wink*

      • killreligion

Mar a lago is not a golf club. It’s on palm beach (a barrier island)-one of the traditional properties turned commercial like the breakers. They call the water between barrier island and mainland lakes in that region, thus the name of the property (it stretches from sea to lake) other parts of Florida its called gulf to bay etc-the most valuable parcels.

This story is in west palm which is across “the lake” (lake worth I believe) on the mainland. It’s a golf club.

People might want to read “The Season”. Yes it’s trashy but a quick read and look into this fascinating place and pretty pathetic group of people that have unprecedented access to the president

    • Oh’behr in Minnesota

Oh rules, rules. Trump gives no @#$% about rules, rules. He is of course, not like us little commoners.

      • Oh’behr in Minnesota

I of course am being snarky. I agree with you. The trees shouldn’t be where they are. They should be on his property.

        • JAKvirginia

          Snarky, maybe. Also correct!

    • killreligion

“The easement “. Whose? You mention utilities, companies?….sidewalks, municipalities? Easements are granted, in deeds, by property owners to other parties for many reasons. You can’t look at a photo and “see” an easement.

Perhaps this town imposes setbacks, but those are usually for improvements which doesn’t mean trees necessarily and they vary depending on what abuts or the location (side, road, rear etc)

You may be on to something but to assume it’s an easement owned by the town is a leap. My town imposes a building setback but a fence can go on the line. But not in front. I can plant between the sidewalk and street, with some restrictions. Many lots have no sidewalk but you have to consider sitelines. Many variables here.

      • JAKvirginia

        No. Just no.

        • killreligion

“Um….correct me if I’m wrong ” you wrote-sorry you disagree now.

Tolkien had not had the books illustrated because he felt nothing could equal the individual imagination, and for that reason, I didn’t see the first two movies when they came out. But there was so much hype, and so many good things being said about them, that I decided to see the The Return of the King in theaters. Naturally, I had to see the first two movies first, so I borrowed them. Blown. A. Way.

Every once in a while she’ll act out for attention if she’s done it out of my friend’s sight sure enough she’ll go to her shame location, hiding behind the living room couch.

        • Oscarlating Wildely

Partly true in cats. Cats would never take the burden of shame, embarrassment, and despair off of you for not worshiping them enough. “Now, human, back on your knees and make me purr.”

        • JCF

And by “they just can tell”, it’s probably an evolved instinct. Pack leader’s threatening tone and gesticulations triggers the “hang dog look”: “Waaah, Pack Leader, I didn’t mean to _______! See how Sorry I iz!” (as we interpret it ;-/)

Funny, how knowing a dog’s behavior is ~99% instinctual makes me love them not one whit less. <3

          • cleos_mom

Of course, a lot of our own behavior is subconscious, or might be called instinctual. And animals ‘listen’ to their instincts enough to often display what we’d call common sense. Such as, in the case of wild animals, not reproducing in mid-winter or when they perceive there’s a shortage of food.

    • another_steve

Therein lies the difference between dogs and cats.

A dog would merely attempt to hide behind the outstretched toilet paper roll.

A cat would shred it to pieces.

      • Oh’behr in Minnesota

Yes, but which one eats it and then throws it up on your carpet and which one eats it and poops it out on your carpet. That my question? Lol.

        • another_steve

          Lol. 😉

Domestic cats, generally, don’t poop inappropriately. This may be a gross generalization and I welcome opposing views.

The cat babies do, however, occasionally throw up inappropriately. Particularly the meticulous groomers.

They’ve started the fireworks here now.

I’ve come to hate fireworks. I think it should be illegal, anywhere and anyhow.
Goddamn waste of money, noisy as hell, scares animals, pollutes nature, burns down houses, destroys eyes and hands.

I don’t care if that makes me a party-pooper. I just hate fireworks.

They’re illegal here and that stops absolutely nobody.

        • zhera

If it’s illegal to produce and to import then the use will go drastically down. Fines for use is a must.

        • cleos_mom

Sales are legal where we live and technically people in the town nearby to us aren’t supposed to set off fireworks in town. But every 4th of July, when we attend the official fireworks show, we get an additional show in the surrounding neighborhoods. Sort of like an outdoor 3-ring circus.

      • another_steve

Oh we could talk, babe. I’m remembering professional firework shows.

I grew up in a neighborhood adjacent to Coney Island, Brooklyn NY. Age 0 to 26.

Once a week during the summer months, they did fireworks off the Coney shore. My family and I would take our beach chairs up to the roof of our apartment building and watch the fireworks from up there.

Remembering you now, dear mama and papa.

OT – I was noticing yesterday and today that everybody and their brother has eagerly put out a “Worst Movies of 2017” list. It has apparently been a very bad year for movies, among other things.

‘The Mummy’, ‘The Dark Tower’ and ‘The Circle’ made almost everybody’s worst list and ‘Justice League’ was on quite a lot of them. I wasn’t even aware that Justice League had even (finally… so much build-up) come out, but it was by some accounts the 2nd most expensive movie ever made and it’s going to lose a big bundle.

    • Licensed Troll

JL wasn’t that bad. DC is dark, get over it. Marvel is shangri la wrapped in happy fun candy, DC is the actual shit we live in, most people can’t handle it.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

Some of the lists that included JL did say that it was, objectively, not one of the worst films of the year, because there were so many that were worse, but that it was included because it was such a disappointment and the expectations for it were so high.

      • Reality.Bites

Movies with multi-hundred million dollar budgets are investments. DC movies aren’t doing well with DC fans or the general public.

I rather suspect DC is going to get over it before the people you’re admonishing do.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

I heard that they were all crap. Having noted, I had thoroughly thought that I saw a trailer for a film adaptation of the incredibly timely and nicely researched and written “American War” but can now find no record of it. I had one Siamese that actually would feel shame, only one of many I had owned or bred over the years. I had since he was 4-5 weeks old and I was his whole world. One of the smartest I’d had too. If he did something wrong and I would tell him he was a bad cat, he would come to me and do this submissive act around me feet. He also hated my former stud cat, Joe, with a passion. If you held him and asked him he was a good Joe, he would slap you, hiss and then go slap Joe. Not a good idea, as Joe was twice his size.

    O/T

I have a blog, and somebody commented:

I believe that our current political and societal polarization is largely the result of us sequestering ourselves into all-or-nothing camps and declaring the opposition to be not just wrong or misguided, but evil. Opposing sides don’t seem to mingle much anymore, much less talk to each other in a civil manner.

    I replied:

Divisions among people have been present since the founding of America. Indeed, divisions are a byproduct of something instinctual, tribalism.

However, political divisions grew exponentially worse in the 1990s. There have been a number of books written about this phenomenon which had its genesis in Reagan’s getting rid of the The Fairness Doctrine (a policy requiring the holders of broadcast licenses to present issues in a manner which was honest, equitable, and balanced). Then Newt Gingrich created a grand plan to demonized the opposition and also tried to impeach the President. Then FOX launched in 1996 and never had a good thing to say about any Democrat (which would have been impossible under The Fairness Doctrine). Then Mitch McConnell, when Obama was elected, proclaimed that the GOP would do everything in its power to cripple him, including stealing a Supreme Court seat.

I have watched this GOP assault on democracy with utter horror and this is why, today, I loathe the GOP. I didn’t used to.

    Put another way?

Should I try and respect the views of Nazi’s? Or pedophiles? Or rapists?

You see, I think it is important to recognize evil. And to utterly deny evil entry into the social fabric. So, no, I don’t think having polite, respectful conversations with evil is right.

And I think that the GOP trying to take away health care for tens of millions of people is evil. Evil. I think gutting the EPA so that our lands will be polluted, our rivers ruined, and our air fouled is evil. Evil. I think demonizing minorities is evil. Evil. I think creating a tax plan which takes away from the many to nourish the very few is evil. Evil. I think a President who provably lies the majority of the time is an evil. Evil. I think a President who constantly insults and name-calls other people, and our allies, is an evil. Evil. I think a President who thinks it is OK to use nuclear weapons “because we have them” is something even worse than evil. Something even worse.

      A link to your blog?

That’s what many of us have been thinking about this “reasonable dialogue” sales pitch and haven’t been able to express it that clearly.

    • PeedeResistance

Would you post a link to your blog?

    • killreligion

Agreed but people support him-humans are evil. We prevailed over all other life forms due to our ruthless survival instincts

Is this the logical end to a system that requires people to put society over self? Can we only thrive with a rigid system to tamp down our natural instincts? Religion isn’t the answer as it’s proven to just be a tool for more evil. Government doesn’t do it as government like AI is at risk of working towards its own goals

As for lack of balance I blame the people for not seeking it. It’s there

The answer is society. Put down the clickity devices and become part of society. In person. Impose rules again-society used to control behavior through risk of shame and rejection

Humans will work to survive. Society having collapse due to the internet has failed to be the check it has been for millennia.

“The network charged a white truck appeared . . .”

The network said the truck belonged to the Palm Beach sheriff’s department.

Donnie is getting afraid for his safety, good.

      • KarenAtFOH

Yeah, like those trees are going to stop a lot of shit. I hope he has trouble sleeping.

  • Tom Ato

donnie will probably bill us for the trees

      Goes without saying.

Man that is one big pile of worm cans to open.

You know there was a lot of you do me and I will make your crime go away.

Thomas doesn’t revise himself when he goes on vacations to luxury resorts with defendants. This won’t even be a blip.

Just canceled my NY Times Subscription

After what the NYT and the Washington Post did to Al Gore back in 2000 they are dead to me.

Ugh. So much ‘No.’ to that headline. There’s a difference between being informal and installing a personal propaganda channel where the resident can lie directly to his base with no accountability.

    • The_Wretched

A couple of good articles biughtbthem a ton if good will and they blew it all “reaching out” to alt-right bastards.

    • Scout

Look at that “ratio”. 325 shares to 3,333 comments and 687 likes.

Well, remember it was the NY Times that started the whole email conspiracy.

  • Paula

I’ve read that they make extremely small HD cameras that could be hidden in a tree easily. Is that really a golf ball washer over there?

    • Reality.Bites

Yes, but it would be trespassing on private property.

      • cleos_mom

There’s bound to be an employee who’s needy, greedy or both.

  • Gregory In Seattle

    Another blatant cover-up by Trump.

  • agcons

Does he really thing this is going to stop anyone from photographing him pissing away time and money on a golf course?

  • JT
  • dcurlee

Let’s see vets and people homeless and hungry. I guess his charitable contribution goes to planting trees for his golf courses from his salary. F’ing loser plain and simple

  • andrew

At least they got the Trumpsters to do something to help the environment.

  • Henry Auvil

Next he’ll build a wall to prevent the mar from flooding the lago. Not because climate change is real, but because he has to protect his bottom line from hoaxes.

  • April

I’m sure Trump will charge us taxpayers for the cost of this as a “security upgrade”.

  • Tom Furgas

Looks like CNN will have to fire up the helicopters. Would love to see that orange baboon railing at the cameras. Wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to get the Air Force to shoot them down.

    • JCF

But that’s the actual thing: there’s a No Fly Zone around the U.S. President, wherever/whenever. News agencies literally CANNOT fly over Drumpf on the golf course. [They’d be warned away by law enforcement before they even got close.]

  • TheManicMechanic

No law against mounting cameras higher than the trees. A typical news truck often has a tall telescopic antenna, simply attach a little camera to that, and voila!

  • Lazycrockett
  • Charles Nelson

Trump promised to build a wall…just a thousand miles from where he said it would be. But that’s Trump for you.

  • Henry Auvil

Glad the Interior Department is getting off their asses and doing something for a change.

  • Steve Teeter

Just another symptom. The ruling class wants to wall off sight of their extravagances and entertainments from the rest of us, the peons whose taxes pay for their pleasures.

Or am I thinking pre-guillotine France?

    • Steve Teeter

No, come to think of it, it’s just that Trump’s a piss-poor golfer no matter how much he works at it, and that’s what he doesn’t want us to see.

      • canoebum

Your thinking is spot on. To your latter point, not only is he a middling golfer, he cheats.

      • cleos_mom

But the pre-guillotine France option is the most optimistic of the choices.

  • those camera crew trucks have a tall mast, bolt the camera to the same mast the satellite dish is on!

  • cleos_mom

The only nature-esque thing Donnie Fyodorovich is ever likely to be involved in.

  • Taylor

It’d be a shame if a hoard of beavers appeared there.

  • AaronD12

Idiot. Now the media will start using drones.

  • Puck

Drones? I have two drones that I have a blast with! CNN or one of its friends should just fly one. You don’t have to fly it over, just straight up and pan a cam towards, the big Cheeto.
