WORK WORK WORK: Trump Golfs For Fifth Straight Day

The Hill reports:

President Trump visited his private Florida golf course for the fifth straight day on Saturday, according to a White House pool report.

Trump, who is staying at his Mar-a-Lago resort for the holidays, traveled to Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday morning.

Trump has said that his trip is a working vacation. He tweeted on Christmas night that the next day he would be “back to work.”

Is playing golf really that fun or interesting? It looks boring as fuck to me.

Robert Burns, I think, called it a “good walk wasted.” (Correct me if I got that wrong.)

      • Chucktech

I thought it was Mark Twain who called golf “a good walk spoiled.”

      • David Walker

“Golf is a good walk spoiled” is attributed to Mark Twain, but according to a Google source, that’s unlikely from a chronological perspective. “Golf is a good walk spoiled” is attributed to Oscar Wilde. The problem is that either of these descriptions has been used so much that its original author is debatable.

    • Grumpy Old Man

I grew up golfing in rural Montana; we had gravel greens until they brought in flood control. I only golfed because they let me drink beer while I was out on the back nine (actually the back nine was the same as the front nine, we didn’t need 18 holes). It was boring; it was as boring as going to a ‘gentleman’s club’ (sometimes known as a titty bar).

Whenever we get another Dem POTUS, I don’t EVER want to hear bitching from the GOP about vacations taken by said POTUS. EVER!

    • Gustav2

They will, remember how much time W spent on the ranchette and they were fine with it?

    • lymis

You will. Most of it will be along the lines of “Democrats complained when Trump took vacation, now they don’t say a word when DemPres does,” while completely ignoring the numbers – or the self-dealing corruption.

Obama took nothing near the vacation time Bush did, but they still ripped him for any he took, and for the expense.

    How the Russia Inquiry Began

“During a night of heavy drinking at an upscale London bar in May 2016, George Papadopoulos, a young foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, made a startling revelation to Australia’s top diplomat in Britain: Russia had political dirt on Hillary Clinton.”

“About three weeks earlier, Mr. Papadopoulos had been told that Moscow had thousands of emails that would embarrass Mrs. Clinton, apparently stolen in an effort to try to damage her campaign.”

“Exactly how much Mr. Papadopoulos said that night at the Kensington Wine Rooms with the Australian, Alexander Downer, is unclear. But two months later, when leaked Democratic emails began appearing online, Australian officials passed the information about Mr. Papadopoulos to their American counterparts.”

Before my father died, he loved to golf. And he was retired. And he STILL didn’t golf as often as BLOTUS

    • can i just say you made me lolsob in the most intense way?

my dad too. well, i dunno. he was on the course almost every day, or in the country club bar, at least. heh. there are some groups of white men who live for golf. you know what is the funniest thing?

i remember all of dad’s golfing mags. he had a little basket in his bathroom’s pisser, filled with them. i occasionally read them, when i was taking care of him before he died. he subscribed to, um, all of them, katie.

anyway, you know what i remember? and this was a while back kids, so work with me here. Tiger. Tiger. and also, too? Tiger. every. fucking. one. of them had him on the cover. for years. there is this weird thing, and forgive me if you are sensitive to this sort of thing, a really strong attraction on the part of old white men, to young black people. or let’s say young people of color, cause there are some other golfers who are like Tiger now and i’d bet they are in those mags now too. white men are very strange when they get old. but my dad was a good man, so i forgave him for the crimes of his race and class. he did a couple of really great things for the poor, including founding a law center in a rust belt city that charged nothing.

    • MBear

So…everyone who loves golf…dies. there you have it: golf kills. Just say no to golf. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

  • M Jackson

He doesn’t know the meaning of “back to work”. Quelle surprise.

    • thatotherjean

Other people work. Trump just takes the credit.

  • mjsatty

Ok I think I have it figured out. Physics defines work as force multiplied by distance. So when Trump says “back to work” he means returning to applying force to a ball by hitting it with a club to see the distance it will travel. So golf = work to Trump. Only flaw I see with this is Trump doesn’t know physics.

  • JWC

I am so done with the media’s forays into “Trump Country.” NPR can’t get enough of it. We come away with bullshit like “There’s more that unites us than divides us” and “We are not listening.” We get half-assed excuses and false equivalences. Maybe his base are simply mean, stupid rednecks and greedy, soulless rich people.

I had a friend who’d read biographies of serial killers because she wanted to “understand what makes them tick.” I have zero interest in people who make terrible decisions.

I read that article. We truly do live in a nation of idiots.

      Trump supporter:
“Everybody I talk to,” he said, “realizes it’s not Trump who’s dragging his feet. Trump’s probably the most diligent, hardest-working president we’ve ever had in our lifetimes. It’s not like he sleeps in till noon and goes golfing every weekend, like the last president did.”

More than 25% of Trump’s days in office have been spent on a golf course.

      • Dayglo

Fuck Trump … and fuck golf, too!

      • Chucktech

Knowing what makes serial killers tick actually acknowledges they are sick motherfuckers and makes catching them easier, saving lives. Dump country fellating only encourages them to wallow in their victimhood and glosses over the fact that they are responsible for the crap that happens in their lives. Immigrants are willing to move to places that aren’t always welcoming and educate themselves and often learn languages & cultural mores to fit in.

Whenever I heard Dump voters, they have the gall to turn their nose up at retraining, refuse to move where the jobs are and act like living near family members (& I totally believe this is the REAL reason) & not so coincidentally, only around people of the same class/color/ethnicity/religion/etc. is the ultimate virtue.

meh, like i keep saying, if he’s golfing, he’s not making too much trouble. sure, deals are done on the course. no, no one smart thinks he’s in control or aware of where the fuck he is or who his latest kid is named. if i were still in the biz, what i’d be researching right now is what all his people were doing, the russians, obviously, and which rich concern was benefiting the most. i have a terrible headache right now, i’m sorry if that did not sound logical.

OT: No, nobody annoyed me. Well, not yet.

Post-Christmas is traditionally the time I start playing with new techniques or refining old ones. This one is designed more internally than up top, so the bands are kind of rough there. Internally, it’s supposed to look like banded malachite in three subtly differing shades of green and one gray-black.

It started to false trace (congeal as temperatures dropped) on me a bit, so it’s thicker than I liked. The soap is majority tallow, with olive, coconut, and castor oils rounding out the mix. The scent is a light lemon-lime, anchored by a teaspoon of colloidal oatmeal in the mix to increase skin friendliness.

The colorants are “like nature” in that they’re what you’d get in nature, but they’re lab created to exclude lead, antimony, and arsenic. I used chromium oxide (green), titanium dioxide (whitener), and iron oxide (black).
