VIRGINA: Alleged Teen Nazi Charged With Murdering Girlfriend’s Parents For Telling Her To Dump Him

NBC News reports:

A Virginia couple was found fatally shot in their home on Friday, and a 17-year-old, who is in the hospital with self-inflicted gunshot wounds, is being charged with their deaths.

The couple, husband Scott Fricker, 48, and wife Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, 43, of Reston, were found dead early Friday morning, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“My daughter and her husband found out about a lot of the Nazi stuff just this past week, and they forbid their daughter to see him again,” Janet Kuhn, the mother of Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, told NBC Washington.

The Fairfax County Police Department said in a statement that, while their homicide detectives had obtained petitions charging the teen with two murders, “the petitions will be served on the suspect at a time yet to be determined, depending on his medical condition.”

More from the Washington Post:

On Sunday night, Kuhn-Fricker alerted the principal of the Fairfax County private school that her daughter and the boyfriend attend, attaching numerous images of the account that had retweeted missives praising Hitler, supporting Nazi book burnings, calling for “white revolution,” making derogatory comments about Jews and featuring an illustration of a man hanging from a noose beneath a slur for gay people.

In private Twitter messages, the account Kuhn-Fricker attributed to the boyfriend responded to a photo of a candy shop that featured a display of a dreidel by writing, “ima run in there with my swastika armband right now.”

“I would feel a little bad reporting him if his online access was to basically be a normal teen, but he is a monster, and I have no pity for people like that,” Kuhn-Fricker wrote in the email. “He made these choices. He is spreading hate.”

Sickening. Apparently “punch a Nazi today” needs to be modified somewhat.

I’m not worried. If Trump runs again a creditable challenge will spilt the party worse than the Vermont idiot split the Democrats in 2016.

This should not be able to withstand a court challenge. If the fetus is otherwise far enough along to be legally aborted, it doesn’t matter why the woman made her CHOICE to abort.

    • Todd20036

      This is unconstitutional

      • kaydenpat

        That’s what I’m thinking too.

    • FAEN

      WTF!

    • kaydenpat

That foolishness needs to be challenged and struck down. Infuriating.

    • Bunter

I’m ambiguous about this. The prohibition is unconstitutional of course, but the systematic abortion of fetuses who might have down sydrome, even in late months, is not ok either. In some parts of the EU this is already happening to a degree that there aren’t any children with down syndrome born anymore. I have a feminist friend who works with disabled children in the EU, and she is super worried about this developement, where women almost get pressured into abortion, even if they don’t want to. It’s getting pretty close to eugenics.
The fact that the US right discovers this topic now is supicious though.

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

This may grate on some people here but I have to share it:

I just read about this case this morning. It’s so sad. This daughter is going to have a tremendous amount of guilt as she not only knew her boyfriend was a Nazi, she began believing the things he said, and possibly let him sneak into her room where he then shot and killed her parents.

I think this case also serves as a warning for “reasonable” white people. This family lived in uber-white Reston, Virginia where their daughter didn’t even attend the super white public school, but a private school. The DC area is full of diverse, nice neighborhoods and as a DMV resident we all know what the real deal is when white people live or move out to the VA suburbs to live in mostly white areas.

It’s clear that it doesn’t matter how passionate you are about equality and bigotry when you envelope yourself in an environment that was created by the very same bigotry you hate. In essence, you can’t acquiesce to racism by insulating yourselves in it physically and then be surprised that racism will affect you intimately.

I really hope that white people who are inclined to actually fight racism as these parents will take this to heart. Just as parents of color, white people need to now think about where they live and how the attitudes of their community will affect their families. If you know racism is an issue in this nation and you want to actively counter it, now is the time to move your families to more inclusive, integrated, and diverse communities. If you don’t, you can’t be surprised when white supremacists come across your very doorstep.

I purposely moved to a neighborhood in which my neighbors are incredibly diverse. I moved from a very white, Italian neighborhood, and many of people the from that nabe, think I’ve moved into a ghetto. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have neighbors that are white, black, Asian, Muslim, Russian, to name just a few.

I personally would not associate with anyone who is a bigot or who believes in the bullshit that Nazi’s think is the truth. Not everyone who lives in a white nabe believes in that crap, although I can understand why it seems so.

        • McSwagg

          Kudos!
I bought a house three and a half years ago in a neighborhood that is within a couple percentage points of being equally inhabited by Asians, Hispanics, Blacks and whites. It’s been the most welcoming and friendly neighborhood that I’ve ever lived in. Diversity is the only path forward.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

I moved to a “beach town” and the people are wonderful. I’ve been so welcome by everyone and when I was moving in so many of my neighbors offered their help. I agree that diversity is the only path forward. We all need to understand that no matter the race, gender, orientation, color, or any other socially constructed differences, we are all humans and have much more in common than we have differences.

          • Octoberfurst

I live in an apt complex that is virtually a mini-UN. We have Sudanese, Pakistani, Whites, Blacks, Asians, you name it. Plus we have several gay couples living here. We all get along very well. Everybody is quite friendly and when we get a deep snow everyone comes out to help shovel each others cars out. It’s great. Fuck bigotry. This is the way it should be.

          • McSwagg

We got a deep snow a couple of weeks ago. It was a whole inch deep. We just waited till mid morning for it to melt.

If she’s self blaming then shes correct it seems? Therapy indeed – perhaps to come to the realisation that actions have consequences

        • Todd20036

She was attracted to a “bad boy”. There is some room for naivety at that age.

          • sfbob

Yeah. My sister’s boyfriend when she was 17? Really hot. And a real juvenile delinquent. It didn’t end well but at least she learned something. Actually she learned several things some of them useful to her and some merely interesting. When I came out to her a couple of years later she said she already knew because the ex had told her. Possibly a good thing I came out slowly; I’d have dated bad boys too if I’d been younger.

      • marshlc

Yes. She’s a teen, so chances are pretty good that there was a certain amount of “Fuck you mom and dad” involved in her dating him in the first place – because that’s what teens do.

My kids were teens when their dad died, and even though they were not involved in his death in any way (cancer) and even though they had very good relationships with him, it was still very difficult for them. Anger, guilt, insecurity, grief…. all having to be processed by a young brain and emotional system not quite up to the job. Add all the extra shit this girl is dealing with, and, as I say, I just hope she gets the help and support she’ll need.

  • Paula

My ex lived in the Reston area for several years. It was fast growing, incredibly beige suburbia that was mostly bedroom communities for the DC/NoVA/MD region. Despite being modern, fairly diverse racially, and upper-ish middle class, it was still festering with self-disenfranchised white people that could not wash that nasty southern resentment for losing the civil war, despite it all being their own damn fault.

OFF TOPIC: Things are tough all over
Lainie Kazan reportedly was arrested on Christmas Eve for shoplifting $180 worth of food from the supermarket.

The actress from one of the highest-grossing romantic comedies of all time claimed she’s destitute, according to TMZ.

The 77-year-old actress walked out of a Gelson’s in the Los Angeles Area Sunday before an employee stopped her at her car and called the cops. + + + + + +

I remember when she was just a slip of a thing, very gorgeous, and singing on Merv Griffith’s sit and chat show in the early 1960’s. I’m sending a check as soon as I figure out where to send it. 🙁

    • Reality.Bites

I know the food dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to, but $180 of food isn’t easily concealed unless it’s REALLY high end stuff

      • SoCalGal20

Gelson’s is a more exclusive grocery store than Whole Paycheck. It wouldn’t take too much effort to walk out with $180 worth of stuff.

        • Reality.Bites

Yes, I’ve been there, but still. I was assuming before Lars responded that it would involve concealing the food on her person.

      • Lars Littlefield

When stores are very busy the best way to steal stuff is to fill a shopping cart and then roll out with the rest of the customers rushing for the door. It’s easy for no one to notice that nothing is bagged. Shoplifting food, to me, isn’t a crime. If you’re starving/hungry, you need food. I feel differently about fur coats, jewelry, and large appliances, 🙂

Where is the White community’s statement about this White on White crime?

When will the White community address their gun and neo-Nazi gang problems?

Where is the mugshot of this thug criminal and his shitty parents?

    • David Walker

NBC says names of juveniles are not released unless or until he is charged as an adult. I, too, am surprised (/s) that the fucking moron hasn’t issued a tweet allowing as how both families were good people. As for a mugshot…let’s wait until he’s cleaned up a little. Of course, there ought to be pictures of him in his khakis and whites.

Your question about guns and neo-nazi gangs is the same as mine. I am so fucking sick and tired of both and the resistance thrown at anyone who might question their right to exist. I don’t own a firearm and when a confrontation is more than two-on-one, I tend to look for an exit. Plus, at 71, I don’t see myself as being a threat to anyone’s well being. Obviously, a lot of actions need to be taken to make any change at all and, frankly, with more days behind me than ahead of me, I doubt if I’ll ever see any change. Guns, hate, racism, bigotry, “religion,” and all the bad shit I didn’t include run deep in the fabric of our country. Fabrics can be cleaned; more and more, some cancers can be cured. I hope you and your man get to see it, experience it, and enjoy it when it comes about.

After visiting hubs mom in rural redneck Virginia, this kind of mentality doesn’t surprise me. We have never felt so uncomfortable going out in public in her area since t rump has been elected. Reston is hardly rural redneck Virginia, it’s definitely part of progressive Democratic Northern Virginia.

      • djcoastermark

True. That is what at first is so surprising. Yet, a lot of the rednecks and bible thumpers keep going there trying to infiltrate, under the auspices of reclaiming their territory.

A woman in Chester VA was mauled to death in the woods by her own pit bulls ,
I would love to know the whole story on this …

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4b1191169c614e95055def6a30ee168f8912f787677494f7c69cb9bddefe0a52.jpg

    • Lars Littlefield

What? Pit Bulls did that? But everyone tells me they are so sweet and loving and would never do such a thing. Must be fake news. /s

      • Reality.Bites

Sweet and loving doesn’t mean they don’t recognize the Confederate flag for what it is.

        • Lars Littlefield

We’ve been interested in adopting a rescue to keep our Tucker company. A shepherd mix or generic mutt would be just fine. However, the only dogs that show up at our ASPCA or the county kennel are pitt bulls and pitt bull mixes. Oh, and chihuahuas. Lots of chihuahuas. Go figure.

Neighbors to the north of us and neighbors to the south of us on nearby farms have had nothing but trouble adopting pitt bull and pitt bull related dogs. For some reason they are particularly interested in sheep and poultry. So, we avoid the temptation of taking home a sweet and happy pitt bull from the dog catchers. But some day we hope to find a hound/spaniel/shepherd/mutt mix — or a beagle — that will come and keep Tucker distracted. He needs a friend.

          • Boreal

Get a Jack Russell mix. Great temperament and will keep Tucker busy.

          • Lars Littlefield

I’d like a small terrier. They are amusing to train. Tucker tries to learn stuff, but he’s distracted by the scents and spends his days pointing at everything, because he’s a pointer. He has lots of animal friends (geese, chickens, ferrets, sheep, horses, etc) but they don’t understand his basic dog needs. Dogs (IMHO) do better in twos or more.

          • AJ Drew

I hear ya. My local “pound” seems determined to rehab Bully mixes’ public perception, to the point they put down generic mutts before any Pitt-looking dog that ends up at their door.

Sure, many Bull-mixes are sweet and calm-natured, but as with all dogs, they can be triggered, and their inherently strong jaws and inbred hunting/fighting character is a bad possibility.

          • Jerry Kott

Same here is Pennsylvania. When we went to the local shelter to adopt, 80% plus were Pitt bulls or mixes.
Try a breed rescue. Our Aussie is coming around after 7 months and each day she lets us know we made a good choice. We got spooked when we visited the shelter.

          • Reality.Bites

I used to have a female Pit bull live near me. My dog adored her, and even more so when she went into heat. He was safe around females in heat despite not being fixed because he had no interest in intercourse. He just loved performing cunnilingus one them. (Clearly he was adopted)

He had a thing for tough females who were bigger than him – he was about 50, and he liked females about 60-75 pounds who would chase him back.

          • Skeptical_Inquirer

I heard greyhounds have associations devoted to getting them adopted but tend to be expensive. There might be a beagle version.

    • Boreal

      A traitor flag fetishist huh?

    • Tomcat

Them thar pitbulls are Nazi sympathizers. and don’t make me say sarcasm.

      • MBear

That’s a horrible philosophy and not all pitbulls and whine and whine and whine /s 😉

    • Tomcat

Obviously at least one of them was dangerous or she would not have it muzzled.

      • Gretchen

I think that’s a nose collar for a “gentle leader” harness. It just keeps dogs from pulling on the leash. We had one when our Jack Russell was a puppy.

    • Tomcat

Nothing in these four pictures scream for apathy.

From what I’ve read about the case:

She had to place her dogs with her dad for a while and they weren’t taken care of. Not enough food, no walkies, no interaction with humans. Who knows what else. It fucked them up.
She walked in the woods with the dogs when they attacked her. Why? No-one knows.

    • stuckinthewoods

Not Chester, local to us, covered in more detail than needed. Husband keeps saying, “how did I know her?”, and she was a friend of his co-worker.

Apparently something similar happened two days ago in Bell County, KY.

Ugh, the ugly still keeps happening, even on this day. Just a happy reminder for you all, don’t forget your furry outdoor friends this holiday. I guess they are in the holiday spirit also as they left cute little prints on the table of their ” Sandy Claws”

  • Phillip in L.A.

Anyone know why (and/or how) “TuuxKabin” is going around removing my name from posts I made, and replacing it with his?

    • Boreal

No one has the ability to do that without access to your account and Tuuxkabin sure as hell wouldn’t do something like that. More than likely your disqus account has been hacked.

      • Lars Littlefield

Russians are responsible. It’s the Russians.

        • edrex

          probably, yes.

          • Phillip in L.A.

Why the fuck would the Russians want to hack my disqus account? I can think of few things less likely.

          • Bad Tom

You might be a target of opportunity. Perhaps someone used your account to test an exploit. Given how Disqus performs, I would not be shocked to be told Disqus has a security bug. Or ten.

I presume you had a decent password, one not guessable by a brute force attack. Such an attack might take the 1000 most likely bad passwords, and slowly try them on randomly selected accounts.

Simply gaining access to a random account with a long posting history is a win for a troll farm. Then they can post propaganda using that account. If people question it, that is weighed in their minds against the poster’s previous history. Which means the propagandists have a better shot at influencing opinion.

It is an insidious mindgame. I have read of this tactic before.

          • Phillip in L.A.

            Meh

      • Phillip in L.A.

Assuming this to be a correct answer, then TuuxKabin should probably also do the same

        • Bad Tom

Yes, I would recommend TuuxKabin change his password too, just as a precaution.

          • TuuxKabin

Thanks Bad Tom. Just got home to find messages re: this. Acting on it now. Thanks again.

        • Boreal

Not necessarily. You account has been hacked. The hacker is just using another name. His account is probably not compromised at all. I’ll let him know anyway.

          • Bad Tom

A hacker / troll has taken an interest in TuxxKabin / Philip in L.A. for unknown reasons. There is evidence that Philip in L.A’s account has been hacked.

Why wait for evidence that TuxxKabin’s account is hacked, too?

          • Boreal

I said I would let him know.

          • Bad Tom

Had to refresh to see that.

          • Bad Tom

            Sounds good.

          • TuuxKabin

And ya ‘ did. Sorting it out now. Thanks again for the note.

      • Cuberly Deux

Mediaite has had problems with imposters now and again. A troll steals a users avatar and their username, but modifies the name slightly so it can be accepted by Disqus as unique.

It usually ends up being a burner account. They’ll post all sorts of offending shit then dump it.

        • Phillip in L.A.

One song was actually an improvement I would have approved, if I had thought of it! 🙂

          • Bad Tom

            LOL!
            ——-
Someone hacked my system, but it worked better after the virus, so I left it.

          • TuuxKabin

            Maybe I’ll be as fortunate.

      • TuuxKabin

Thanks Boreal. Addressing it now. Been thinking of a new ID lately. Now’s as good a time as any.

    • AJ Drew

      Um, wut?

    • Bad Tom

Change your Disqus password right now.

    • SoCalGal20

Sometimes bots copy other people’s posts. I’ve seen it happen. The real TuuxKabin would not do such a thing but I suppose it’s possible a bot could copy a username and do something like that. Or somebody’s account got hacked. Or disqus is fucked up.

However, the actual user TuuxKabin has better things to do with his time than copying other people’s posts.

      Merry Christmas!

      • Phillip in L.A.

        I’m sure that’s true, SoCalGal20!

      • Bambino

Absolutely! TuuxKabin will not do that. It’s not even remotely consistent to his character.

        • TuuxKabin

          Thank you Bambino.

      • Cuberly Deux

Further evidence that Mediaite is a well of trollz, they haven’t given up over the holiday weekend. In fact some of the troll posts have horrible syntax. Russia?

The number of trollz has really been off the charts over there. And it’s almost all copy/paste the same few post topics over and over and over.

      • TuuxKabin

Thank you SCG. Besides being too busy I have no idea how to go about such techie stuff. Hope you had a good day and feeling better.

        • SoCalGal20

          Ha yes, there’s also that.

I went to the movies today and saw “Call Me By Your Name” and “Molly’s Game”, both of which I enjoyed. I moved “Coco” to tomorrow. 🙂

So, yes, a good day. I hope you had a good day.

          • TuuxKabin

Was fun with a pair of five year old twins and their four and two year old cousins. I asked them if they saw it and they told me it scared them. Parents had to leave with them. I want to see the Del Toro film. The Nature, or Color (?), Of Water. I like his works.

          • JCF

“The Shape of Water”: it’s on my list.

          • TuuxKabin

Shape, yes. Our list too, but, considering the last movie we went to before Coco was in 2010 I doubt we’ll see it on the silver screen.

    • Bad Tom

Philip, can you clarify: are the posts you are talking about copies of posts you made with a different name, or the actual posts you made, but edited?

      • Phillip in L.A.

I have only seen one: a post of a song I made, but there are some words there that I did not post; so, the original post has been edited. Also, they are being posted under TuuxKabin’s name and avatar, so if his account hasn’t been hacked, then something truly odd is happening!

        • Bad Tom

Would you kindly post a link to one? You can do so using the “share” button. I’d like to poke at it. Thanks.

    • Cuberly Deux

If you see which imposter account is doing it you can report it as impersonation to Disqus.

Thank you for that. I should laminate it and wear it is a badge. However, if an introvert runs away, s/he probably means it and probably has s/he can’t deal with people any longer. More than likely it’s nothing you said. It’s just that if we’re plunged into an event with more than two or three people, we will bolt at some point.

The great paradoxes of my life have been pointed out to me annoyingly often. “How can you be on the radio and talk to thousands of people?” I don’t see them. “How can you stand in front of chorus and conduct rehearsals and concerts?” Easy…I’m in charge. Mostly, though, if you want your party to be fun, and fun doesn’t include looking at an uncomfortable guy standing in a corner or looking at your CDs, don’t bother…we don’t expect to be invited anyway and though we’d like to try to please you because you invited us, it’s probably not gonna work.

      • Juvela Bumblebee

I also have no trouble making presentations because it is about the information, not me. While I am talking about “plasmids” or whatever, it is all good. Well, it was all good. I am quite retired now. Were I conducting a chorus, similarly, it would be about the music, not me.

I escaped to a indoor water park resort with the grouse spouse and kiddo after the Christmas Eve madness with my five siblings and the maddening herd of inlaws, nieces, nephews, and dad’s new “really, we’re just very good friends” lady. We simplified dinner last night to lasagna, bread, salad, and the lady friend’s homemade red velvet cake. Tonight we soaked in the hot tub and ordered hamburgers and cheese strips from room service. I’m now wearing my new yoga pants, and lying sprawled on the sofa in our suite. Life feels much improved tonight after the Christmas Eve lunacy. Next year we are taking the kiddo on vacation and skipping the entire mess.

    • AJ Drew

Do you remember that? I do, vaguely… Perhaps my earliest memory, everyone around a b/w TV and it was *important*!

      • Bj Lincoln

My Mom kept all us kids home from school to watch the first man on the moon. Schools didn’t have TV’s for every class. I don’t think there was a TV in our school then. It was still pretty new.

      • JCF

Verrrrrrry vaguely (I was 6). I have clearer memories of the Apollo 11 moon landing…but I didn’t see it! We were camping on that July day, and my parents woke me in the middle of the night (California time), to hear Neil Armstrong’s “One Small Step…”

…but, like so many kids of that era, I was MAD for space travel. Being female, I fantasized being the first (American) “woman in space” (obviously, my genderqueer identity hadn’t formalized, nominally, yet!). Sally Ride (memory eternal) beat me to that one though…

        • Natty Enquirer

1969 was an incredible year. First moon landing, Chappaquiddick, first troop withdrawals from Vietnam, Charles becomes Prince of Wales, Stonewall riots, first flights of the Concorde and Boeing 747, last public Beatles performance, first Led Zeppelin album, Manson family slayings, Haunted Mansion opens at Disneyland, Scooby Doo, Where Are You?, The Brady Bunch, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Sesame Street, and Midnight Cowboy premiere …

          • JCF

I’m guessing you’re either older, NE (and better remember it), or younger (and have researched it!).

          • Natty Enquirer

Oh yes, I looked it up. I was 8 years old and remember some of those things. We went to Disneyland to see the new Haunted Mansion attraction.

And don’t forget Woodstock, but keep away from the brown acid!

    • Bj Lincoln

That is so cool. Reminds me of a sermon at a UU church I was part of years ago in Akron, Ohio. They support Pagans and are the only church to have a Pagan group. She was asking where heaven was. “After we have seen the Earth rise over the Moon, how can we say that Heaven is above us? If its not, then where is it? Maybe we should turn the other way and look deep inside ourselves.” It was one of many times she made us all think about our beliefs.

      • Reality.Bites

If heaven’s inside me, no Christians allowed. As for the rest of you, well, if you thought Disney World was expensive to get in, just wait.

That’s always been a pet peeve, when they say that, really. Old guzzley luxury cars go *cheap* on the lower income used markets, compared to something practical and running well, cause people that might like a *new* luxury car will go for a new, less prestigious brand if they can’t afford one, rather than some much-depreciated luxury boat. Luxury cars lose half their value the moment someone drives one off a lot, after all.

(For similar reasons people insisted that somehow families screwed by the foreclosure crisis and other parts of the Bush recession ought to just sell their decent family cars in favor of cheaper ones, when by the time they took the hit buying and selling and paying tax and registration, all they’d be doing was increasing their maintenance bills to have a probably-less-reliable vehicle.)

        • Snarky

Apparently that’s not what it seems. Sears PR said it was a printing error (which is what you’d expect them to say, so of course no one believed them), and they said they had proof – the same photo had appeared in an earlier version of the catalog, and there’s no dick (or printing error, or whatever) in that version. Which would seem to prove their point.

          http://hoaxes.org/weblog/comments/the_man_on_page_602

          • boobert

The earlier pic looks like it was touched up, and they forgot to do it to the later one. That’s a penis , lol !

          • Snarky

That’s clearly not how it would work though – if they did have to retouch the photo for their catalog the first time it was printed, it would be already retouched when they went to use it for a later publication. And they’d remember, especially if they went through the time and expense to touch up a photo.

What gets me about the “is it or isn’t it” question is, if it’s a penis it looks like it’s in the wrong place. It seems to be hanging too far back, and if it was real it would be a little closer to the front of his thigh.

  • bkmn

Best turkey and dressing ever. Lessons – for a good boneless turkey breast, skin on the breast and a flavored brine is essential, along with homemade chicken stock for the dressing. Doubled the amount of onion and celery for the dressing, cooked in the chicken fat from making the stock and used both fresh and dry herbs. Include half a stick of butter to make dressing even better. Cook roast on top of dressing to tip scales for the best dressing ever.

    • JCF

Made cornbread stuffing (“dressing”? What part of the country are you in?) in the crockpot: came out great! I cooked a turkey breast, but it was on the bones (will make more soup stock later!).

      • William

Stuffing is the stuff you stuff into the bird. Dressing is the stuff you put into a casserole dish and cook in the oven.

President Bartlett knows when to call in an expert.

        https://youtu.be/zQsvcs9IB8A

        • JCF

They’re very regional terms (I believe “dressing” is more limited. Everywhere else, dressing is a liquid you put on a salad!)

      • bkmn

We are in the PacNW now after decades in MN. We opted for the boneless breast since it was available at Costco. It has some solution injected into it but it is a weak solution so I went for a moderate brine and brined for just over an hour. My new approach is to boil the brine with spices, herbs and citrus and put the brine outside overnight to cool it down for use the next day.

Just going in she has a huge advantage – not trying to act to Moffat’s writing.

It’s a mainstream kids’ show, despite how it’s marketed and scheduled in North America. He made the plots and story arcs into FAR too complicated pretentious fanwank.

For the upcoming series, I am somewhat concerned that the Doctor will have three companions. Of course that’s the way things are done on Arrowverse shows – you have the hero and she has a support team. Since the Davies era, even when we’ve had more than one companion, as with the Ponds, or (more briefly, Rose and Mickey, Rose and Jack) the third companion was more the companion’s companion’s than the Doctor’s.

That said, it also needs mentioning that at last we have a hottie in the TARDIS again, Ryan, played by Tosin Cole

He’s also in Burning Sand, on Netflix about abusing hazing at a Frat.

Season 2 of The Crown was just all over the place.

    • I think that Prince Philip has been treated unfairly. They made him look like a cad. He may have had affairs at that time (as she might have — Prince Andrew looks just like Lord Porchester for example) but it is all rumor. He was far more supportive to her than they let out. The last episode, the Profumo affair is all conjecture. There is no evidence that Prince Philip ever went to any parties where he was tainted by the Russian sky scandal. The Queen Mother’s role — throughout the series — is also played down. She was far more than a simpleton drunk — her role providing backbone behind the scenes continued after the war years when she was helping Churchill build Commonwealth morale.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

Agreed, and Tony’s portrayal was also pretty much the same. (Please, if members of the English ruling class screamed every time someone of the same sex wanted to or did hook up with them, the whole of the Peerage would be hoarse.) Having noted, the treatment of Prince Charles’ schooling revealed more on class and early education than far more people would like to have noted. The class and education system– so often linked– wrestling with Phillip and notions of masculinity. I found that episode alluring.

        • Lazycrockett

Which would have hit home if Charles had been a fleshed out character and not a Philip stand in. The audience has no clue who Charles is except for 2 or 3 bits. This should have been revisited through Charles eyes, not Philips.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Fair point. Charles is one of the most underdeveloped characters in that show right now. We get a slight view with Dickie as he is preparing him for Eton but then, well, it’s the Phillip show. I concur. The whole “I just want to ride cars, planes, hang out with the bros, and show that yes, I still have a penis even though I like every other British subject have to admit she’s kind of head of this country” is not the way to showcase the complexity of Charles’ character– who by all means was and is indeed quite astute, even if he could bore bark off a tree.

          • Charles hated Gordonstoun. The place was basically Lord of the Flies but with cold showers. He sent William and Harry to Eaton — which was the wise decision since they could spend weekends with their Granny in Windsor a short walk away when she was staying there.

      • Lazycrockett

Isn’t The Sun just tabloid nonsense? [And aren’t tabloids in Blighty, like here, generally rightwing-slanted?]

I’m betting Harry will invited whomever dafuq he wants (or doesn’t! i.e. Drumpf). I’m betting Meghan’s imput here will matter way more than some tab’s shrieking about the subject…

      • Reality.Bites

Normally the US president would not be at a wedding of the second child and it would be highly appropriate for the US to be represented by a former president. For example, George Bush didn’t attend Pierre Trudeau’s funeral – he sent Jimmy Carter, who was president during part of his time in office (along with Johnson, Nixon, Ford and Reagan.)

However there’s nothing normal about Trump. He absolutely can’t be allowed to attend and he will certainly throw a hissy fit about the Obamas being invited.

The Foreign Office, by their nature conservative and trying to avoid controversy, would certainly prefer to avoid provoking Trump. They’d also likely prefer Harry marry a white Briton of noble birth. But he’s not and I suspect the Obamas will be invited and the British government is cognizant of the fact that at worst this will be a speck of dubious dust in a giant shit show of a presidency.

        • greenmanTN

The Obamas seem to actually be friends with Harry so that makes a difference. When you see them with both Harry or Will it doesn’t look like the usual ceremonial “we both have to be here so let’s just make the best of it” interaction.

Of course I want them to be there just to chap the Tangerine Troll-doll’s thin-skinned hide. And no matter how you cut it, Trump is the epitome of the tacky, grasping, nouveau riche boor who would be as welcome there as a turd in a punch bowl.

If Trump had any brains, which of course he doesn’t, he would suggest the Obamas attend, which would save face publicly and short circuit any perceived snub or controversy. But that’s not going to happen.

          • stuckinthewoods

What I was getting at is that friendship isn’t even needed to make it perfectly normal. The only issue is Trump’s insanity. Telling him that it’s normal won’t help

Hmmm, I don’t think I’m going to go out for any Boxing Day sales…

Temp with the windchill is -33… I’m not even going to get rum for the hot toddy, I’ll be content with a lovely cup of tea. And another…

At our high for the day here already: 20F. Bitter cold week on tap.

Were at a balmy 23 at the moment though the high is supposed to be 40. The cats were doing their usual “let us out!” morning beg, so I did then loaded up and started the dishwasher. By the time I reopened the door they were all gathered right outside, glaring at me like “WTF took you so long?! It’s COLD out here!”

Yesterday, I bundled up in all of my cute winter workout outfits (layers and layers) and decided to take a nice brisk walk. The air coming into my nose (the inside of my nose being the only exposed part of my body) was so cold, I ran back inside and stayed there ever since. It didn’t help that I just watched “Wind River” in which several characters die because the air outside is too cold to keep their lungs from freezing. Eek!

The thing is, way back when, it used to be bearable. This cold is far more humid than the cold of my younger days. That makes the cold worse.

But of course, climate change is a hoax. 🙁

        • Daveed_WOW

Indeed. I don’t think I ever wore long underwear when I was a kid. Yet I survived every winter without frostbite. These days I live in my longjohns from December until March. Then I’m nude the rest of the year.

I wore them all the time, our winters used to get right down to -40. 🙂 Without the windchill. But it was a dry cold. So you’d get nosebleeds, but the winters weren’t that bad.

            Now, they’re hellish.

It’s been something coming on very strongly, teens committing murder (of their parents, or the parents of an intimate), for sometimes even trivial things.
Of course, this issue is not trivial, the boy having such extreme leanings. And clearly, being involved in Neo Nazi political influences, is dangerous.
But teens have killed their parents over not being able to date who they want, or if they couldn’t have the party they wanted, or the newest iPhone, or a puppy.
Even less impulse control, than they usually have. When they are able to even consider homicide as the first resort.
    What insanity.

Though his name wasn’t released, this killer’s identity has been revealed if you want to find it. The interesting thing is his mother had all sorts of stuff posted on her Facebook page — especially about black athletes taking a knee. You’d think she would have shut down her Facebook page or made it private, but nope. Since last night, she’s just deleted every one of the race-baiting posts, and left up Charlie Brown and a Louis Armstrong song (What a Wonderful World) instead. If you looked now, you’d think she was a gentle soul, and how could her kid have learned such horrible things with a mom like her? But her kid definitely inherited his hatefulness from Mom. Hopefully others made screenshots.
