Alabama Officials To Certify That Roy Moore Is A Loser

The Associated Press reports:

Alabama election officials say they will certify Democratic candidate Doug Jones’ upset victory over Republican rival Roy Moore next week.

The Alabama Secretary of State announced in a statement Friday that the election results would be finalized next Thursday.

Moore has not conceded the race. In a Thursday fundraising letter to his supporters, Moore said he needs donations to investigate what he calls reports of fraud and irregularities in the election.

Yesterday Alabama’s Secretary of State, a Republican, issued a statement about the viral video which far-right sites leapt upon as proof of voter fraud.

Thanks to the help of concerned citizens interested in the credibility and the integrity of the electoral process, the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office was able to identify the young man who was anonymously featured on the news broadcast.

After additional research was conducted, it was determined that this young man has lived and worked in Alabama for more than one year and is currently a registered voter in this state.

We applaud this young man’s energy, excitement, and enthusiasm for the electoral process and we are always encouraged when we observe Alabamians who are actively engaged in campaigns and elections in our state.

Something tells me this nightmare isn’t over. When does Jones’ term expire? 2020? If old Roy is still living, I foresee him throwing that stupid cowboy hat back into the ring.

    • RJ Bone

That seems to be his schtick.

    • pch1013

And/or he’ll run for a House seat, which he will win easily – since Alabama is so thoroughly gerrymandered.

      • Lantor

A repug offing another repug in a district where the dem has no chance of winning? Hope he wastes a lot of his own and the RNC’s money.

I once read (anyone reading here who knows whether this is a real thing, please weigh in) that there’s a rare female condition that produces uncontrollable orgasms in affected women. One woman had it so bad that she couldn’t ride a bicycle without orgasming. Has to do with leaning on or against things.

Again, I read it but can’t attest to whether it’s a real thing.

      • Gustav2

        https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/249594.php

Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is characterized by unrelenting, spontaneous, and uncontainable genital arousal, mostly in females.
A woman with PGAD can experience spontaneous orgasms that do not resolve arousal. The person’s arousal is not linked to sexual desire.

PGAD can lead to ongoing physical pain, stress, and psychological difficulties due to an inability to carry out everyday tasks. The condition can affect women of all ages.

Experts have not clinically confirmed the incidence of PGAD, as many people with the condition feel too embarrassed or ashamed to seek medical help.

Sort of Off Topic (will white man ever concede power?):

In Utah, my home state, U.S. District Judge Robert Shelby issued a ruling Thursday that gives Navajos a significant majority of voters in two of three commission districts and three of five school board districts where I live, San Juan County. The blessed white mormons with burning testimonies that the Book of Mormon is the true word of god are now the minority — something they’ve always been except for imaginary voter district lines they’ve pretended were real for more than a century. So looking forward to voting Native Americans to county council and school board positions in 2018. Yah-ta-hay, everybody!

    • Sam_Handwich

      and Shelby is a republican!

“It is critically important that the officials representing the citizens
of San Juan County are elected under constitutional districts — not
districts that have been racially gerrymandered. The County’s objections
do not explain how such elections would burden the County, nor does the
County address the rights of its citizens to have officials elected
      from constitutional districts.”

But at least in what Joe has quoted here, he’s certainly acting like a government official and not a Trumpanzee. No one in the federal government would have been remotely gracious about that young man. No one would even admit it was nothing. Fox news and Breitbart will use it forever as “proof” we cheated.

O/T but had a scare in our neighborhood today where some guy was going around houses and tried to enter ones where he thought no one was home or where he thought he could run in the front door and steal something from someone’s wallet or purse before they noticed (which happens more often then people think.
He was arrested but still, the fact this was broad daylight and cold and snowy and he was still trying, scary as hell.
I sometimes think the hubby is paranoid for having the doors locked even during the day but stuff like today proves it’s better to be safe then sorry.

    • Boreal

We always keep our doors locked. The area on three sides of the house is wooded and none of our neighbors could see if someone was breaking in. In the summer our front door is also not visible from the road. Also have a bunch of blink home monitor cameras that alert me on my phone when I’m at work if motion is detected in the house.

        I will now as well.

It’s not new. A couple of decades ago in the small Midwest town I lived in at the time, people were doing that.

During twenty-three days in every month (in absence of pregnancy) from the time a woman is seven years old till she dies of old age, she is ready for action, and competent. As competent as the candlestick is to receive the candle. Competent every day, competent every night. Also she wants that candle — yearns for it, longs for it, hankers after it, as commanded by the law of God in her heart.

But man is only briefly competent; and only then in the moderate measure applicable to the word in his sex’s case. He is competent from the age of sixteen or seventeen thence-forward for thirty-five years. After fifty his performance is of poor quality, the intervals between are wide, and its satisfactions of no great value to either party; whereas his great-grandmother is as good as new. There is nothing the matter with her plant. Her candlestick is as firm as ever, whereas his candle is increasingly softened and weakened by the weather of age, as the years go by, until at last it can no longer stand, and is mournfully laid to rest in the hope of a blessed resurrection which is never to come.

      • Treant

Being close to fifty, I can tell you that my candle is still entirely functional, thanks. And the hubby at 52 is still capable of lighting a room.

He was talking about men who sleep with women though and at a time of lower life expectancy.

          • zhera

            Oi!

Where are these men? Or maybe I should ask where are the men who sleep with men (and me)?

          • yeah, i was thinking the same thing. people need to remember just how different things were in his time. bad diet, poor public health & medical standards, a rough life of hard physical labor… people were often used up by 50, and death was right around the corner. obviously there was no viagra or anything like it back then, also too.

In what Universe is this dude living? One, Clinton and Obama were competent. If they had colluded and treasoned and cheated and lied…they would have fucking crushed the orange predator.

      Two, obvious deflection is obvious.

Rand Paul is an excellent example of a type of character who will do or say whatever gets him the spotlight… He rode in on his daddy’s coattails. He continues to pile on the Ayn Rand stupid Libertarian talking points and now, spews conspiracy theories to discredit a political party as a whole. His ignorance precedes him, though, and because it’s his ignorance, he’s not capable of recognizing to the level of discredit he’s exposing about himself and the political party that continues to support his level of cray-cray… Because that party is now all about the cray-cray. So many “old time GOP” gnashing teeth AT the current party in charge because of all the cray-cray that will undo their “Grand Old Party”.

Thank John McCain for ushering this shit in… He’s the one that campaigned on the Tea Party’s advice and lo-and-behold, he gifted us Sarah Palin; Queen of Tea Party.

        That tea?
        It flows from the madness…

          • Skeptical_Inquirer

This is what gets me. If they think someone has incredibly nasty & dangerous powers to the nth degree, why do they go out of their way to antagonize said person and why is it that someone so incredibly powerful ever loses?

As I’ve mentioned here before, at the county fair in the small Central PA town where I lived in the mid-90s, a Fundy church was handing out tapes that *literally* said this. [Well, TBH, they scare-questioned it: “Hillary Rodham Clinton: A Witch in the White House?”]

Insane. [But I already said “Fundy”, so I repeat myself.]

          • Bryan

To which I say convince her to come, grab a small piece of wood, aim it at them, and shriek avada kedavra – I wanna see a taped reaction. I wanna try that on some of the older fundies who are also hate-watchers….see if any of them have a heart attack, keel over and die from fright.

I could be wrong, but I think he realizes he made a huge mistake. He probably doesn’t care that Trump fired him. But I think he never thought that any President would ever disparage the law enforcement/intelligence community the way that Trump has.

        • William

“but he’s on our side” he gets defended on twitter by people that oppose baby huey and they still defend him.

Really ? he had his finger on the scale sealing the fate of the election for hillary. I want all information he has on baby huey, he is useful right now for the information he has, other than that he serves no purpose, and should have no part in the resistance because he helped put the cretin in the white house.

  • Lazycrockett
    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I’ve seen talk about her running for Pres. I know her experience is limited but 1) she’s still way more experienced than Dump, 2) Americans don’t seem to like experience and 3) beyond a certain point, the experience becomes baggage. On a petty level, it would be a nice stab in the eye of sooooo many Dumpsters.

      • Blake J Butler

She’s not that different from Obama, he won his senate race in 04 but ran in 08, prior to being in the senate he was a state representative.

She won in 16, prior to being attorney general for the state. It’s not like it would be a deferral.

She would be a good candidate, i do not feel she will be welcomed by the far left who can’t think for themselves unless she were to receive the blessing from a senator who can’t lift a finger to start a revolution unless they kiss his wrinkly ass. Despite her support of medicare for all. It won’t be enough for them. Also she is a key figure that is apart of the resistance, she has that advantage for her as well.

        • Ninja0980

Some of them have also whined about the things she did as AG but as you said, the biggest crime is she will never be a Bernie bot.

          • Blake J Butler

I think they were bitching that she supported Mnunchin for his confirmation some bullshit like that, and because she supported Hillary and not bernie.

It is so pathetic and boring, there is more to life than who gets a blessing from bernie sanders, and his endorsements are not guaranteed to win, and not even the general but the primary even.

he tried to pass off that he endorsed jones but he didn’t and wouldn’t campaign with him walking away and grunting. Yet campaigned off of his win in a campaign email.

Which proves that it wasn’t about Hillary, it is about nitpicking issues that aren’t real or an issue at all. If they don’t get his blessing, they don’t get to call themselves a progressive, and it will be the same nitpicking that wlll happen with the 2020 nominee which will not be sanders or sanders approved.

          • Bryan

So Ralph Nader 2.0. I’m sorry I ever gave the man one iota of attention. In the beginning when it was coming down to the two of them I was undecided only because I was fine with either candidate – by the time it hit CA, Hillary was clearly going to be the nominee – no beef with Sanders then but it was just statistics. Then he started pulling this absurdist bullshit.

          • Blake J Butler

I’m not going to lie, i liked both initially in the beginning, before the drama ensued. Hillary had my vote from the get go, that wasn’t going to change but i would’ve voted for him if he was the nominee. But something about him threw me off and i just didn’t like him, and i couldn’t put my finger on it as to why i felt that way.

Then as time went on and he started playing low ball attacks using right wing tactics especially going after the Iraq war vote which was regretted then, and then the movement on the far left which came from the notion that the primary was rigged against sanders, that he was cheated, that left leaning voters were getting the notion i shouldn’t vote for Hillary i should vote for jill, or not vote at all because we can’t trust hillary. He could not do a good job of controlling the very people he fed rhetoric to to dissuade them from voting for her in the primary that carried over into the general election.

Now with the resistance on the get go, way less than a quarter of candidates are receiving help from his organization because they fit a mold of his. Lots of democrats have won up and down the ballot, and very few of his that have received his endorsement have won their elections. And taking credit for things he claims he has done without actually putting the effort to claim the credit he is crediting himself and his organization for is bullshit lying.

And recently agreeing with donna brazile’s cheap and pathetic attempt to sell a book on the eve of the big elections in NJ and VA to dilute Democratic turnout, didn’t help my perception at all, it affirmed it. We need new leadership, but it doesn’t need to be picked by someone like sanders and people alike who thinks and acts like he does.

          • Ninja0980

I was meh on Bernie from the beginning when he straight up lied about his record on marriage equality, something the very liberal Mark Joseph Stern called him out on in Slate.
As late as 2006, Bernie was on record saying civil unions were the best same sex couples could ever hope for.
He did “evolve” on the issue faster then Hillary or Obama did by supporting it in 2009, which many of his supporters are happy to mention.
They of course, fail to note that Vermont’s legislature was passing marriage equality at that time.
I also noticed many of the things you did so by the time he got to NY, let’s just say I was no fan of his.
And his performance here showed he has no business being a candidate.

          • Blake J Butler

            1. Word Sierra Blanca was horrific for me.

And he was all over it. And received no criticism for it.

          • Ninja0980

Nope, nor for his rape fantasy essay, his vote against the Amber Alert system or bragging about how he voted yes on the 94 crime bill, the one he and others just love to attack Hillary over because she talked about super predators.

          • Blake J Butler

Which she recieved more hell for her support of the crime bill instead of his actual vote for.

          • Reality.Bites

I came at it from a Canadian perspective, having a national party well to the left of the Democrats, the New Democratic Party. And it quickly became apparent that he is someone they’d never for a minute choose someone like him as leader because he’s FAR too old (Justin at 45 is our oldest party leader) and far too impractical.

If you’re unelectable by Canadian socialists, you’re toxic to US voters and should realize it

          • Bryan

            Precisely, well said!

          • JCF

I remember liking Bernie back during the Dubya Era: “he tells it like it is.”

But the fact that he tonally sounded little different after Obama became President—that he was actually considering running against Obama in 2012—soured me on him. So by the time he announced in 2015, I was already WELL over him (don’t get me wrong: would have voted for him in the General, against Drumpf, w/o a second thought. If the GOP had nominated Kasich, I might have had the *slightest* of second thoughts…but hey, CHOICE, and back to Bernie).

Something I intuited about Bernie early on: he was All Talk. And that’s his record: he’s passed no significant legislation. Built no coalitions. Just kvetched. That might work for a pundit, but NOT a politician!

          • Reality.Bites

I’m still hoping he’ll die of natural causes before the campaign for the nomination is underway

        • Bryan

As a Californian I approve and applaud this statement – it’d be sad to lose her in the Senate but beautiful to gain her in the Presidency.

In fact, that’d piss ’em all off as much as a 3rd Obama term. To which I say Suck Lucille’s Bloody Fucking Barbs You Feckless Cads, Fuck off to the point of Fuckception buddy. Applegate came close last year, yet i personally feel i align more with Levin. Applegate was endorsed by the justice democrats and i just can’t phantom giving money to purists in a primary unless they win and go onto the general.

I hate those assholes and that prick that is on young turks who started that pointless movement out of sanders loss.

      • SoCalGal20

Ugh, Justice Democrats is some sort of front group created by somebody to cause trouble. I feel it in my bones.

Having said that, they have unfortunately endorsed Ammar Campa-Najjar in MY district and he’s the real deal as a Dem candidate. He used to work in the Obama White House before going over to the Dept. of Labor: Btw my Indivisible group just became the first Indivisible chapter to endorse a candidate and it was him. So for my local race I’m going to do my best to ignore them.

      • SoCalGal20

I will point out that Applegate didn’t seem like a brainless purist, even if he was endorsed by the Justice Democrats.

        • Blake J Butler

That’s why I said I leaned toward him but towards levin more because I felt personally he would be better.

My beef isn’t with Applegate but with the JD’s and their purity tests.

    • of course i was all like, “that’s so cool! he’s the best DA of the whole series!”

“[Sherriff] said that civilian witnesses…said that
the suspect had threatened to shoot them and indicated that she had a
      gun”

Ah, oh-so-convenient when a cop TELLS us that the civilians back him up. [Seriously, BOO on the media for even reporting something like this. Either *do the work* of interviewing the civilian witnesses yourselves, or keep one-sided self-serving flack out of your reporting.]

What we actually KNOW here, is that the cops killed two people, a *car thief* (no weapon found and, FWIW, a woman), and a child. Four officers gunned down this woman—who apparently had her backs to them? They said she (appeared to be) trying to get in the trailer—and Ooops, a bullet just happened to go through a paper-thin trailer wall and killed this little boy (Now who could have seen that coming? It’s almost like they didn’t give a f*ck re Trailer Trash, did they. /s). Memory eternal, Kameron Prescott.

      • it’s… noteworthy that they treat trailer folk like they treat folk in the urban core. i guess poor is poor, and that means ‘target practice for police.’

there’s a lot that’s wrong with this country right now but i think i’d rank getting control of our police forces right up there in the top three things i’d ask the genie for if i could.

        • JCF

Well the child is non-white (don’t know about the car thief), so maybe that’s typical of this particular trailer park?

  • RJ Bone

    So, slightly OT:

Back after the Tangerine Nightmare’s election, I found some people that didn’t think much of it overall. The idea was that this was the usually party-to-party seesaw and that all we had to do was just hang in there and it would change back to the Dems at the next election. That this was just The Usual.

In my case, most of them have clammed up, vanished, or changed their tune. Anyone else noticed this?

    • Lazycrockett

I asked everyone of my GOP family how could they justify voting for Drumpf. I got the ” hes a successfully businessman”, or ” he’s gonna shake things up” and “This is just a show and he will drop it once elected.” How they think today bout it, I don’t know nor care to find out. I may disagree with much of the GOP, but voting for Drumpf was a step too far.

      • red-diaper-baby 1942

Being a “successful businessman” should automatically disqualify a candidate for public office. The goal of the one is to maximize dividends for investors, at the expense of everyone and everything else; the purpose of public office is to maximize the public good (material and immaterial) for everyone, as evenly and fairly as possible. The two things are diametrically opposed. In particular, an elderly and not very intelligent man who has spent his life doing the one cannot possibly switch gears after being elected (even if he wanted to, which Trump decidedly doesn’t).
In any case, is Trump actually a “successful businessman”? What about his numerous bankruptcies? His repeated failure to pay creditors? His known frauds on the public (e.g. his “University”)?
There’s one thing, however, your friends got right: he certainly has “shaken things up”. It’ll take us years to recover from the shaking, nationally and internationally.

        • RJ Bone

Rich always means successful to those kind of people. They reckon being a inheritor of a fortune or a rich kid, as several have said to me, means nothing because they have to be smart to keep it.

But as is oft said by rich assholes: “I don’t have to understand *blah* because I pay people to do it for me.”

    • JCF

Were they by chance Berners (to any degree)? Fits a (small sample size) pattern I’ve seen.

      • RJ Bone

In the most vocal cases, Libertarian. Almost none of them were Dems/Progressives, though.

    • TuuxKabin

Clammed up.Ignoring it, apparently, to me. Never bring it up. I got ‘pats on the hand,’ “it’s going to be okay, we’re in this together,” “you’re going to make yourself sick,” and from older sister who called the morning of 11/9, voice unctuous and challenging to “find out how you feel about the election?” She who never votes. In less than a minute I’d told her to fuck herself all the way to hell and back, thrice and hung up. Haven’t communicated since. I feel no loss, rather realization she’s never had my back to begin with.

Your description “that this was the usually party-to-party seesaw and that all we had to do was just hang in there . . . ” Yes. And still, now that we have our backs up against the wall there’s hardly anyone, I can think of one friend, who will venture to talk about, and for whatever reason, her boyfriend, long time companion, voted for the nightmare we’re experiencing. She knows not to include him in any visits we have, the man’s rapid around me and el HubCap (husband), like a dog with a bone, won’t let it go. I guess we find love and support of some kind, where we find it.

It’s all distressing. I continue to engage in resistance, art, support movements to help change, maybe they are, just not sharing that asset of their lives with me, I don’t know. Yeah. There’s been a sea change in how I once felt about many.

      Thanks for asking.

      • RJ Bone

We’ve had to cut lots of people out of our lives – it seems like this election just generally brought out the asshole in those that were hiding it, in all sorts of ways that sometimes weren’t even political, necessarily.

I’m really sorry for all that you’ve gone through 🙁

        • TuuxKabin

The assholes definitely from the family. Friends, well, like that friend with a tangerine supporting BF, we find love where we find it. Before 2016 he was entertaining and a movie friendly mr. know it all. Then came the campaigns and he was Dr. Jekyll. At least we’ve know one another for so long, it’d take a hell of a lot to wrench us – friend and neighbor – apart. And the passive ones. Maybe, I don’t know, they’re just too timid. I’m generally the mouth of the group, and feel better for letting it out, even when shot down in argument to see another angle. It’s all so . . . staggering. Hope you’re okay with things, as okay as possible. And here we were ready to take to the streets today. I’m sure there’ll be other opportunities. And now that we won’t necessarily be arrested for being in a demonstration gone wrong and held responsible for being there, it’s still upsetting that people in I think, TN, or KY can run over demonstrators with their cars. It’s what we’ve come to in so short a period of time that has my head spinning. Anyway. Thanks again for the opportunity to ‘unload.’ Feel free to do likewise. Merry Christmas, if I may, and all the other celebrations we have in common.

    • lymis

Even while it was happening, I couldn’t understand how “We need a change” and “time for a Republican, the Democrats have had too much power and are all corrupt” translated into support for TRUMP.

Any member of that clown car would have been bad for the country, but seriously, how could even the blindest Republican have done anything but laugh at Trump?

      • RJ Bone

        Simpson’s fans, maybe?

Seriously, though, this shows us all how dangerous the right wing is to society in general. They’ve been working their sheep for decades – the last two conservative presidents are VERY indicative of the fact that they could float a hamster for POTUS as long as it “loved jeezus”. Speaking of morons… while he’s light years better than Drumpf, we should not fall into the trap of thinking GWB was a good president. He wasn’t and that’s right where they want us before the next election, because they’ll run someone amazing “compared to Trump” and the sheep will scramble to vote for him instead of using a fraction of their brains.

Ok I just watched the first 10 min because I have yet to see this movie, but that was awesome and I will be checking out more of his analyses. Also “clusterverse” is my new favorite word. 🙂

The key word being “fundraising.” Roy Moore has been running an illicit religious scam for years. He’s not going to stop trying to collect money from rubes just because he lost an election.

  • billbear1961

A coup is underway: the lackeys of the gangster oligarchs have, by hook or by crook, gained control of all the levers of power (except for the courts, but they’re working on that). Trump and the GOP are conspiring to rob you blind, to destroy the social safety net, to abandon millions to misery and suffering and tens of thousands–including children–to premature death every year. They are conspiring to undermine the rule of law and to turn the U.S. into a banana republic, a one-party DICTATORSHIP. By means of massive and relentless demonstrations, coupled with economic measures, you must REJECT their authority, unless they agree to change course and begin to behave like a party, like a government, which still believes in genuine democracy and the COMMON GOOD.

The civil rights protesters of the 60s got results. The South Koreans got results. The Poles got results. The town halls got results. How much longer would Vietnam have gone on WITHOUT the protests? A free society doesn’t, in between elections, abandon its RIGHT to protest and STOP obvious abuses of power, corruption, or any other kind of evil or cruelty perpetrated by government unjustly in its name! He who says otherwise is a LIAR, and a friend of TYRANNY!

When their financial system collapsed in 2008, the courageous people of Iceland protested, peacefully and relentlessly, and brought DOWN the corrupt government which had BETRAYED them! They–who, by the way, had and have no reason to doubt the validity of THEIR electoral process–did not wait for future elections! Were they guilty of sedition? Of course not!! Icelanders exercised their Sovereign Authority as a FREE people to effect IMMEDIATE change, to bring down a government which had betrayed them! THEY did not wait for elections to challenge and put an end to the undermining of THEIR democracy! They behaved like the citizens of a free society, and NOT like the subjects–the abject slaves–of a tyranny! But, then, there are FREE peoples on this planet, and there are SHEEP who submit to being SHORN, and lambs who submit to their SLAUGHTER!

      • do we have to march naked? it’s kinda cold outside, here. 😉

    • LesbianTippingHabits

Well, you are quite correct, but what – if anything – will progressives do about it?

Protests – such as Colin Kaepernick’s – can be inspiring, but if even he never bothered to vote – and is not criticized for that – well, what’s the point?

Yes, photo ID laws are awful, but what – other than complaining – are progressives doing about it?

I think many progressive ‘leaders’ still care more about their own careers in the movement than they do about the future of our nation, all of it.

      Sad !

      • Karl Dubhe 2

If you really wanted to get rid of the photo ID laws, one way might be to link them with that old crap in Revalations. About the government forcing everyone to have a number in their hands, or some such rot.

Say that forcing id on everyone is a step towards the end times…

Oh, wait. They’re hot for that bullshit, aren’t they? Damn.

        • LesbianTippingHabits

But if progressives helped real Americans – all adult American citizens – to get photo ID, then these people could also participate more effectively in the American economy.

          • Karl Dubhe 2

Well, if the state requires that everyone have photo ID in order to vote, then the state should pay for those photo Id’s. Shouldn’t they?

Otherwise it’s another form of a poll tax.

I’ve never been asked for my id when starting a job, except for when I joined the Navy. So, I’m not sure giving everyone ID will do that. 🙂 It’ll employ camera people!

          • LesbianTippingHabits

You are quite correct that a mandatory fee for a mandatory photo ID could violate the 24th Amendment. I think that some states offer them without charge, or provide coupons for those of low income, for this reason.

But I think the best strategy for progressives is to use the photo ID law as a mandate for the state government – in an exercise of sovereignty over its territory and the people on it – to ensure that everyone is properly documented.

A photo ID is useful not just for work, but to open a bank account, among other elements of a productive life. Thank you for your comments.

OT: Trump just made changes to the Presidential Challenge Coin.
    https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/944308552910495744

Made of “gold” now because reasons, it has his name plastered all over it because Trump is not just the President but is the Presidency itself too now, and he has removed the motto “E Pluribus Unum”, which translates as ‘from many, one’ to be replaced with “Make America Great Again” because the motto as it was before is patriotically incorrect and did not reflect the new fascistic nature of America.
It’s not even a coin any more, what with the extension made at the bottom, again with Trump’s name carved into it. It’s a fucking medal.

What’s more is that he plans to have them given out like sweets at his rallies. Far from an award given to achievers, as is implied by the name “Presidential challenge coin”, it’s a political loyalty token.

Trump’s ambassador to the Netherlands just got caught lying about the Dutch

A Dutch journalist just asked new U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra why he said there are “no go” areas in the Netherlands, where radical Muslims are setting cars and politicians on fire.

Hoekstra denied it, and called the claim “fake news.”

The report cut to a video clip of Hoekstra at a 2015 conference hosted by the David Horowitz Freedom Centersaying: “The Islamic movement has now gotten to a point where they have put Europe into chaos. Chaos in the Netherlands, there are cars being burned, there are politicians that are being burned.”

“And yes, there are no-go zones in the Netherlands,” he added in the clip.

    Then things got extremely weird.

When the reporter pressed, Hoekstra denied using the term “fake news,” which he’d uttered moments before.

    • Boreal

I love when they are on video and still try to deny it:
      ‘I never said that.’
‘But we have you on video saying it.’
‘You’re taking my statement out of context.’
But we played the video in its entirety.’
      ‘Fake news.’

The Republican screwing of them will be brutal, but will they even understand what’s going on?

Nope, they’ll just blame it on libruls.

There’s “wrongness”, and then there is “fractal wrongness” Spending time with certain friends and relatives over the holidays is difficult, but as an educational exercise in the epistemology of knowledge, it doesn’t get more difficult than being in a war of attrition while you’re a captive audience to certain people raised on a crazy religion:

    https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Fractal_wrongness

You are not just wrong. You are wrong at every conceivable level of resolution. Zooming in on any part of your worldview finds beliefs exactly as wrong as your entire worldview.

    • i’m really lucky. the religious people in my family (all via the BIL) are quiet and polite, and don’t spend too much time talking about it. it’s annoying to have to watch my language (i’m salty like a sailor on that front) but otherwise i can be myself around them. we had what passes for a heated conversation with them one time about the CA prop vote, but other than that they are mostly OK people. as they would say, as a queer person, i’m blessed in this regard. my condolences and deepest sympathies to those of you who must endure the torture of mandatory family time with haters.

      • BeaverTales

Trying to have a sense of humor about it.

Sometimes that’s all I have. Cynical, sure, but the sense of humor constantly gets a boost here and I spread it. That and a lot of insight from the rest of us, from the rest of the country and world views.

    • Hell, the fundraiser itself is an intrinsic violation. I mean, sure people are free to create legal defense funds and ask folks to donate. But to actually hold an event and make an address to it, taped or in person?

Honestly, these judges ought to throw Gates and Manafort both into jail to await trial. They’re both scofflaws and flight risks. Also traitors.

Goooooood morning, Alabama! Wake up and smell the coffee, voters, because we are here to certify that Roy Moore, the erstwhile anointed of Jeebuzz himself and the hand-picked dingle-berry muncher of Zeus, Ba’al, and Ereshkigal, is now officially a LOSER!!!!
