TRAILER: Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again

Variety reports:

A new musical spectacle opens its curtains in the sequel to Universal’s Mamma Mia!. The follow-up, Mamma Mia!, Here We Go Again, debuted its trailer on Thursday.

Ten years after the original film hit theaters, the upcoming sequel welcomes the return of Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, who reveals she is pregnant but nervous to be a single mom. Hoping to inspire Sophie to find strength and courage, her family friends (Julie Walters and Christine Baranski) begin chronicling the early years of her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep), who raised Sophie on her own.

Already finding herself in a predicament, Sophie’s world is turned upside down after learning her grandma (Cher) makes an unexpected visit to their Greek island of Kalokairi. “Let’s get the party started,” Cher’s character exclaims, only for Seyfried’s Sophie to inform her that she wasn’t invited. “That’s the best kind of party, little girl,” Cher teases.

The first film grossed $600M worldwide.

  • Treant

Mamma Mia! is one of the few films where I actually bought the soundtrack. I’m an ABBA kween from way back, so…

    • Kruhn

I’m sorry. I love Abba too, but the movie singing sucked thanks to one Pierce Brosnan. You should get the play’s soundtrack.

  • Jeffrey

Meryl’s dead in this one? Hmmm.

    • HeyYouKidsGetOffMyLawn

      Death really DOES become her!

  • HeyYouKidsGetOffMyLawn

    Cher as Meryl’s mother…….uh…..okayeeeee………

Like the first, this will probably be enjoyable if one looks at all the hot men, enjoys the music….and tries not to think too much of the wafer thin storyline.

    • Michael White

don’t you think maybe sometimes it is ok to just be entertained for a bit? sort of like the Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney movies?

      • HeyYouKidsGetOffMyLawn

Yup, which is why I made that comment.

    • Daveed_WOW

Cher is old, but she’s not THAT old

      • Gustav2

        Cher (age 71)
        Streep (age 68)

It could happen…in the movies. In the first movie Streep was 59 all the men in her life…55-year-old Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, 57 and Colin Firth, a tender 47.

    • Kruhn

It’s still Cher! I’m on to watch it

  • Pollos Hermanos

So they’re attempting to make this movie the gayest thing that ever gayed?

    • HeyYouKidsGetOffMyLawn

      Gayest thing that ever gayed?

They filmed a scene in Aaron Schock’s office?

      • Prost Seattle

While he farted out a rainbow and came glitter.

    • pj

      without any gays. not interested.

      • Pollos Hermanos

You don’t think Cher’s hair just magically does itself do you?

        • lymis

I’m reasonably sure she has it sent out…

      • Dazzer

        Colin Firth’s character is gay.

  • Lakeview Bob

Apparently the twitter sphere is all in a tizzy because Meryl is missing. Why do people get all upset over stupid things like this?

    • Jeffrey

Because it’s nice to get upset about something minor for a change instead of just the daily dissolution of our democracy.

    • Twitter is convinced Meryl’s character has been killed off, so the movie is like doing Mary Poppins 2 the Chimney Sweeps dancing around her grave…

    • lymis

She’s in the cast listing on IMDB…

      http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6911608/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_3

    • Circ09

My Mom and I loved going to the first movie together with our friends. But we will not see this second movie if Meryl’s character is dead. That just kills all our good feels. And neither of us is thrilled this new movie is just a long flashback about everything we already know from the first movie. Seems like the whole thing is a wasted opportunity for good fun.

Is it just me, or does it need a heavy dose of The Tempest?

            Bye.

Is it OK if I just post completely off-topic but mildly amusing images instead? πŸ™‚

I finally blocked it. It had taken the photo of a character named Berta Lovejoy, who in turn was an internet troll/hoax of some talent.
Unfortunately, Beth isn’t very good at trolling. Just annoying and working very hard to give actual ‘feminists’ a bad name.
Here’s the link to the story on Berta Lovejoy:

Same troll photo. This shitty troll is now concerned with ‘the relevancy of discussion at hand.’ You just can’t make this stuff up.

          • “No one cares” – Comments anyways.
“You stole someone’s photo.” – Has stolen photo.
“Troll” – Comments literally are not relevant.
            I just can’t anymore.

            “I just can’t anymore.”

            Okay. Bye!

          • Yes I am leaving. Over the toxicity here. Not to say that I might pop up when relevant discussion is needed and to insert ideas that are desperately needed. But beyond that you will not see me here any longer. Thank you for your contribution, Lizard.

LOL. It’ll be back. Those stange troll types always are. Like Ish, Perdue, etc. Just can’t stay away.

          • Boreal

Hilarious that after deceiving us as a multiple moniker troll it is now offended that no one wants to read its nonsense.

          • Lizard

…are you SURE this was Beth? I’ve read Beth’s and I just read through this person’s and either they’re a very clever troll or different people.

          • PickyPecker

Exactly the same person. Beth Sanders = Cady Wompus. I saw the transition of names happen the other day as Beth morphed into this new one. If you read into it’s history a ways, you’ll see the old Beth shit about xtians, ‘in christ’ etc.

          • Lizard

I see. I only read the first loaded page of comments and it really sounded like a different person to me. Clever troll.

      • Treant
        • RobynWatts

Slightly OT: I honestly have to say this, but I feel sad just looking at the expression on that dog’s face for some reason. Wish I could give the poor thing a belly rub and some scratching behind the ears.

  • Hopefully the singing will be of a higher quality in this one. But I’m not holding my breath.

  • BlackGayAthetist
    • Daveed_WOW

They got an all expense paid trip to Grease and they got to play not-serious characters who don’t kill anyone. And they got paid for singing very, very badly. I should be so lucky.

PS: Where the hell is Stockard Channing? There are worse things I could do.

      • danolgb
        • Treant

It’s weird, but I’d fuck Sandy before Danny.

It’s not that I have any element of being straight, it’s just that I dislike John Travolta that much.

          • LeeCMH

I’ve called him John Revolta for decades.

          • Treant

Agreed. On some level…I’m absolutely repulsed by him.

I managed Hairspray, but I wasn’t a hundred percent thrilled that he was in it. He makes me feel squicky.

          • LeeCMH

That arrogance the New York City accented loud mouth displayed.

I see the same NYC arrogance in tRump and have disliked tRump for decades for the same reason.

Of course, now, I fear and detest tRump as President.

            .

          • Kruhn

He still did a very good Edna Turnblatt.

          • lymis

If you think that there’s anything cringe-worthy about Travolta and Newton-John, remember that the role of Sandy was first offered to Marie Osmond.

          • Treant

Well. Thank you for the nausea.

          • LeeCMH

So… Are you saying, it could have been worse?

          • DirtyPierre
        • Daveed_WOW

So much better! [Milk squirting out of nose situation here. Cookies and milk from the Blood Drive]

        • lymis

I’ve always felt it was a fairly minor thing to object to, but it always irked me that Sandy remade herself for Danny, and Danny went out for track to try to remake himself for her, but the moment she showed up in full slut mode, he ditched the letter sweater and never looked back.

“Oh, you’re a slut after all? Cool!”

          • Circ09

Naw, listen to the words in the song…saves the whole scene.

      • Kruhn

Meryl can sing. Pierce on the other hand… Plus hey, I’m gay and I loved the play and will probably watch it.

        • chrisinphx

Seriously! It’s a light unapologetically fun movie. I don’t understand the complainers.

  • BlackGayAthetist

Did not like the first movie AT ALL…

    • Cuberly Deux

I was quite literally forced to watch it at a friends house and it was the longest 2 hours of my life. I thought I would die from schmaltz poisoning. I like Abba, not that I go out of my way to listen to them, but that movie was just indescribably dreadful. Pierce Brosnan “singing”?

  • PickyPecker

Pass, thanks. Passed on the first round as well.

Back in the late seventies, I got so, so tired of Dancing Queen at the disco.

I’ve been trying for years now to get my African Grey parrot to sing some of this. Instead, he just bobs his head dancing as I sing it over and over to him. Who is training whom???

        • Treant

It is very clear to me that our animals train us.

Casey sits next to me when I eat, one paw on my leg. And yes, that prompts me to give him a little. Riley has me trained to sit down when he wants a lap.

My blue front Amazon has developed a thing for pop songs. It’s my fault, I told google to stream some music and went to the store. Somehow the genre slipped into Canadian heartbroke blond girls music. It was playing something about skater boys when I got home, and by then it was too late.
          I’m ashamed.

        • Cuberly Deux

          Good choice.

  • Dazzer

I loved the first film – for intensely personal reasons – and I am most definitely going to see the sequel.

Meryl Streep fought damn hard to get the first film made – she wanted something where middle-aged women were the stars and would be a film that was entirely fun and would appeal directly to middle-aged women (a demographic that she pointed out was almost entirely ignored by Hollywood these days).

    • David Walker

While I preferred the show (saw it twice), the movie was a good time out from the world, and I see nothing wrong with movies as entertainment. I didn’t care for some of the ways they used the music, but I liked it. Julie Walters can do no wrong. The one song I didn’t care for in the show or the movie is my favorite ABBA song (naturally).
