ALASKA: Track Palin Granted House Arrest, Banned From Drinking, Having Guns, Going Near Parents’ Home

The Anchorage Daily News reports:

A bearded, tattooed and silent Track Palin sat in a Palmer courtroom today as a judge signed off on house arrest for charges from Palin’s assault on his father Saturday.

Palin, 28, was arrested by Wasilla police Saturday after his mother, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, called them for help. He is charged with felony first-degree burglary and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault, both related to domestic violence.

Todd Palin told officers his son came through a window and beat him on the head after the two argued about a truck Track wanted, charging documents say. Todd said Track had been drinking and taking prescription pills. Todd met Track at the door with a pistol but did not use it.

Once released, he’s not allowed to go within an “exclusion zone” around his parents’ home along the Parks Highway, or near liquor stores or places serving alcohol. He can’t drink and must take prescription drugs only as prescribed. All weapons must be taken out of his house.

Track Palin is allowed to leave the house for medical appointments and for his job with a drilling company.

That’s one dead-on Ted Bundy stare.

    • BearEyes

I noticed the crazy eyes too

      • Bluto

        He has his mother’s eyes.

    • RGG

      I was thinking Manson.

  • bkmn

Sounds a little lenient to me. Shouldn’t he have to give up all his guns, not just remove them from the house?

  • WitlessProtection

Must be nice, if he was a bit darker he’d be rotting in jail.

    • TampaDink

Or, more likely, he’d be dead.

  • Prost Seattle

I think he’d Be happier in the ‘pokey’.

    • geoffalnutt

      Getting “poked”.

  • hdtex
  • bkmn

    He is his mother’s son.

  • Pollos Hermanos

    Way to go, Track.

    You’ve ruined Christmas.

  • PickyPecker

YOU can’t tell him what he can’t do, libtard!!

    • MT YVR

I dunno… offer him a Scooby snack and I’m certain you can get him to sit, roll over and play interested.

  • JoeMyGod

If a ranting drunk black kid beat his dad bloody and then taunted the police from the roof of the house, do you think he’d get house arrest?

    • Prost Seattle

Spending time in the Palin house surely must go against the Geneva Conventions.

      • Robincho

It would go against proper conventions everywhere. And by proper conventions, I mean conventions held by proper people. And by proper people, I mean anyone NOT associated with the putrescent Palins and their ilk…

        • Rick Zajac

My mother’s favourite word, “proper”. As in what proper people do. Honestly, everyone went on three day gay bar benders in the 70’s. Seemed proper to me at the time.

          • Robincho

And I’m certain that during all those episodes you comported yourself in an entirely proper manner…

          • Rick Zajac

Well certainly. What would people think?

          • Andymac3

In for a penny, in for a pounding.

    • Judas Peckerwood

He’d have been shot off the roof.

    • TampaDink

      Nope. Just a funeral.

    • peacfulseas inWA

Or if his last name wasn’t Palin.

    • clay

When he first came out the house, he was still holding the gun and they had to order him more than once to drop it.

      • teedofftaxpayer

A black would have been shot dead after the first command.

        • (((GC)))

          If not sooner.

          • Todd20036

And that, people, is white privilege.

        • Jamie_Johnson

You seriously think they would have waited to kill an armed 28-year-old black man until they could issue a warning?

        • margaretpoa

          Before

      • Henry Auvil

He was exercising his 2nd Amendment rights which means law enforcement has to ask a deranged armed person TWICE to drop his weapon when he’s attacking his own family.

    • BlackGayAthetist
      • Robincho

I’m thinking that McTundratwat has about as many millions as Herr Drümpf has billions — in other words, zero. Krack Palin languishes in the hoosegow for want of a mere $5000, and yet curiously, that sum is not now, nor has it been, forthcoming. Maybe that’s because that sum isn’t available, on account of Big Gulps™ and Filet-O-Fishes in Wasilla’s finer restaurants don’t grow on trees…

        • Randy503

Trash like this goes through money like it’s a sieve. She probably has very little left from her heyday at Fox and the speaking circuit.

I’m sure she will end up like Anita Bryant: Stiffing everyone for what she owes them and selling biscuits at the state fair.

          • Robincho

If you wanna see what happens to the living dead, just go visit the incredibly current, relevant Bryant website. There is little else so satisfying in these dark times. And don’t forget to take special note of the superbly tasteful sculpture in her Oklahoma front yard…

          • 2guysnamedjoe

Did she actually collect the insurance money when the “sculpture” was “stolen”?

          • carrot festival

Biscuits at the state fair. Ha ha!

          • DavidAZ

Make it ham biscuits and she’ll have Miss Lindseybelle standing in line.

If I was a black kid in Alaska, I would shoot myself 🙂

    • David L. Caster

      He would not have survived.

    • margaretpoa

Both the kid and his dad would have been shot while mom and little sis were cuffed and held at gunpoint while little baby had his leg blown off by a “stun” grenade tossed into his crib. Then mom would be charged with accessory and sis and baby would have gone into the cps system, never to emerge.
The ugly thing is that everybody knows it and it would happen anyway.

Upvoted, but I question the assumption that Track has PTSD. It hasn’t been confirmed (due to the secrecy of juvenile records) but it’s been rumored that Track Palin was involved in cutting the brake lines of about 50 school buses. I think it’s pretty likely he was a psycho before he ever joined the army.

      • David Walker

Considering his parental units, I’d say that’s a reasonable assumption.

      • popebuck1

The PTSD discussion is such bullsh!t. He didn’t serve in a combat position, he had a cushy post working security for bigwigs. He was showing violent tendencies long before he had to enlist. It’s all a ploy for sympathy, and it’s a slap in the face to veterans suffering real hurt, who overwhelmingly AREN’T going around committing mayhem, but just trying to live their lives.

        • lymis

Be fair. Seems pretty clear that being raised by the Palins is enough to cause PTSD.

          • yes b’y

lol, I posted my comment above, then I saw yours.

        • yes b’y

I would imagine that being raised by the Palin’s would give one PTSD.

      • Jamie_Johnson

He was given *the choice* of either joining the army or go to prison as his “punishment” for cutting those brake lines.

      • perversatile

Sanpaku gan (三白眼) or Sanpaku (三白) is a Japanese term meaning “three whites.” It is generally referred to in English as “sanpaku eyes” and refers to eyes in which the white space above or below the iris is visible.

  • Paula

Convict him and take away all rights to own or possess firearms. That will hurt him in a bad way. For his type, that is emasculation.

    • ColdCountry

Won’t stop him from having guns, though. Especially in Alaska. They actually might have grizzlies in their schools. (Too bad they didn’t have one in the lot guarding the buses.)

      • Paula

It won’t stop him from having one, until the cops find him.

        • ColdCountry

At which time, they will probably look the other way. Not that I’m cynical or anything, but white privilege, and being a Palin in Wasilla, are mighty things.

          • Paula

I would agree, however, he is probably not someone that will go quietly.

      • Lizard

No joke, the only time outdoor recess was ever cancelled at my elementary school in Alaska was because there was a grizzly bear cub by the fence around the playground.

(Okay, there were two other times because it finally dipped below zero degrees Fahrenheit, but I don’t count those.)

        • Paula

You guys didn’t try to talk the really dumb kid into going out and slapping the cub on the nose? That would be epic.

        • ColdCountry

I had a friend from Canada who said they weren’t allowed to walk home from Scouts on their own at certain times of the year because of the Polar Bears. Different world.

          • Lizard

We had to have bear bells on our backpacks and we all had survival kits at school (flashlight, thermal blanket, etc.) just in case we all got stuck at school with no power overnight. I remember they were kept in a plastic trash bin by the coat closet. And I was in Anchorage, the biggest city in the state. It was more extreme for those in more rural areas.

I mean, I was 8 or so at the time, so it was just normal. Only in retrospect do I realize how bizarre that would sound to someone who’s never lived in that climate.

          • ColdCountry

Tough climate for a lizard! It is amazing what is “normal” when you don’t know differently. TV has erased a lot of barriers to other cultures – and climates! – but I still believe that travel is important. Being insular just doesn’t work in today’s world.

I will admit that If I went somewhere and they had his pizza, I would eat it. I would never buy it, if that’s what they had at someone’s home. The only food that I absolutely refuse to eat is Chick-Fil-A.

      • zhera

That’s the ONLY thing? How about lutefisk, or rotten shark from Iceland?

        (Seriously, it’s a thing.)

        • David Walker

Rotten shark? I think I’ll pass, thanks for the offer.
Lutefisk? Once, which was enough, but I lived through it.

          How’s the train ride?

I’m staying home this x-mas, David. 🙁 Feeling shitty and achy, so no train ride for me.

          • David Walker

Me, too. Biggest plan is to cuddle up with the cat and enjoy and extra large dish of chicken and snow peas from the local Chinese restaurant. They’ll be the only restaurant open on Monday and they’re within my walking distance. Patches doesn’t care for soy sauce, so I have it all to myself.

        • killreligion

We have a Panera Bread (hubby and I call it “breadery bread”- stupid name)

Our admin knows not to use them. If we bring in sandwiches for a meeting it’s the locally owned one with great selection, vegetarian for our Indian coworkers etc

That chain has sugar in the bread, sauces etc. it’s fake food but it’s mobbed.

      • Dramphooey

My place of employment will sometimes buy pizza for everyone and it is always Papa John’s. The last time they had it I passed. It sucks, anyhow. They give you garlic butter to make it taste better and I almost ruined my favorite polo with that disgusting goop.

        • killreligion

This is what I don’t understand. Why are places like this even in business. I make pizza from time to time but don’t buy it. If we get it for a work lunch/party we order from the local shop that has racks of dough rising in the back etc.

Why these chains do any business I will never understand. Same with the expenygas stations by the highway entrance. No reason to go there and they have lines. People are dumb.

      • JCF

“i really think y’all are trying to force this LGBT shit in everybody lifestyle”

Let us count the ways this is beyond the pale.

        1. “trying to force”: this is, of course, PROJECTION. But when you project violent intent on a hated minority, you *inevitably* provoke violence against that group. See re the last 2000 years of Jews in Europe. They weren’t hated for clothes, or noses, or keeping Kosher. They weren’t hated for lending at interest. They weren’t even hated for “killing Jesus” (their ancestors, in the distant past). No, Jews were hated for BLOOD LIBEL. The libel—the PROJECTION—that they were killing Christians (specifically, killing Christian babies to put their blood into matzoh, which is so crazy I can’t even.)

“trying to force”…leads DIRECTLY to Matthew Shepherd beaten and tied to a rail fence (etc, etc, ad nauseum). It is HATE SPEECH. And it IS a “direct threat”, just as much as if he’d said “I’m going to beat down these shitty LGBTs trying to force themselves on me”.

        2. “everybody lifestyle”: well, that’s just a crime against the English language.

        I think I’ve said enough.

Then we had a long walk back via all the side roads so I could cry a bit more.

My housemate had an elderly bassett hound (her name was Loretta) and she had something going on that the vet was never able to pinpoint but she kept losing weight and her bloodwork was off. I suspect it was probanly some type of cancer like leukemia or something. Anyway, she got pretty lethargic but she was always in good spirits and happy and my housemate was going to have her put down a couple of different times but when she’d look at Loretta who was happy and eating and interested in her surroundings and still liked going for walks and all of that…she just couldn’t. One day Loretta went blind and was definitely not herself anymore and that’s when my housemate took her to the vet. She and Loretta ended up having several extra months of good time together.

Since we’ve entered the free-wheeling OT portion of our evening, can I ask how everyone feels about the NYT taking Glenn Thrush back? I’m kind of pissed.

    • SoCalGal20

Gives me yet another reason not to subscribe to the NYT. NYT cares more about maintaining their dudebro newsroom than fostering a respectful, inclusive environment for journalists.

      • LesbianTippingHabits

New York Times actually supports the Trump Administration.

This is one way in which they are doing so. Think about it.

      • johncAtl

Based on feedback from you and a couple of others here I cancelled my NYT digital subscription a couple of weeks ago. Just as well since I’ve found the Guardian to be much better.

        • SoCalGal20

Yes, I need to donate to The Guardian. Excellent quality. And the nice thing about them is they’re funded from a trust, so they’re not beholden to corporate overlords.

    • Tomcat

So this means trump is a suckup also.

    • JohnJay

Where does this 64 countries come from? There were 9 who actually voted with the US, and 35 that abstained. That’s 44 countries. So 20 countries were no-shows? I don’t think that 20 should count in supporting the US.

      • 2guysnamedjoe

Tales from the Crypt, the movie the Joan Collins bit came from, is pretty good. IMO the Collins segment was the weakest. The bit where the head of a home for the blind is mean to the people who live there, and the one with Peter Cushing as a man repairs toys for children were the most memorable.

  • Robincho

OT: OK, I say a ***line in the sand*** has been drawn:

[apropos upcoming story by PBS News Hour re Drumpf’s impact on the judiciary]

May 19, 2017: When Trump said he fired Comey, to “take pressure off” Russian collusion investigation.

Every nominee who accepted a Drumpf judicial nomination after that date—with the evidence of OBVIOUS obstruction of justice—did so in bad faith. Their nomination/confirmation is NOT to be respected!

When sane (elected) government returns to this country, I say resignation of these judges should be DEMANDED! If not, their seats are to, nevertheless, be regarded as OPEN.

OT: I offer praise for, of all people, the wife of former Canadian Conservative PM douchebag Stephen Harper.

    From thestar.com:

This week, after Steve Ecklund, the Alberta-based host of the outdoor TV show The Edge, posted a photo of himself to social media beaming behind a humongous dead cougar, an animal he shot and killed in order to “stir fry” it later, as Harper shot back at the hunter on Twitter. “What a creep,” she wrote. “Chasing a cougar with dogs until they are exhausted then shooting a scared, cornered and tired animal. Must be compensating for something, small penis probably.”

    • agcons

No wonder she was kept out of the public eye during Steve-o’s reign.

  • marshlc

I just spent the day with my 28 year old son. He has low vision and doesn’t drive, so I drove him around for his errands, he kept me company for mine, then helped me carry all my stuff up the stairs to my apartment. We then went out for something to eat – he bought me a burger – and I drove him to the bar where he’s meeting up with his buddies for the evening. We spent most of our time chatting, laughing, talking about books, movies, politics…..We do this sort of thing every week or so.

He’s got a bachelor’s degree in one type of engineering, a diploma from a tech school in another, and is working in a furniture store right now while looking for something in his field. None of this is easy for a person with a physical disability.

And there are people out there who will say that a conservative Christian home like the Palins is a better place to raise your children to adulthood than the socialist, atheist, and for some of the time single parent home my son came from. All I can say is I never have to answer the door armed when my son knocks….

    • MikeBx2

      • Reality.Bites

No such thing. They’re all sub-par.

    • Tomcat

They just cannot give people credit for learning from history.

    • Treant

I’m shocked. The cheerleading sections on most of the news channels have been pushing the tax bill thing, even if a large percentage of voices just call it a scam.

You’d think the GOP would listen to the cheerleading.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

Maybe people noticed how hard the GOP banged the “balanced budget” and “deficits are EVOL!!!!1111!!!” drum so loud and so hard for 8 years that they notice when GOPers suddenly at the same volume go “Peeing on peasants will make economy run so hard deficits won’t matter.”

        • Treant

Yeah, but…Republicans? Disliking hypocrisy? Noticing shit?

          What suddenly changed? 🙂

          • Skeptical_Inquirer

I think it’s not just $$$ at the core of it.

The new tax plan shat on a lot of deductions the upper-class use, which is bound to piss them off.

But I think that GOPers are now getting the feeling that everybody is now thinking they’re a bunch of tiki-torch wielding sex predators who claim they love Jeebus but say things like Two Corinthians walk into a bar.

          • killreligion

Its definitely changing. People seem embarrassed to admit they are still republicans. For good reason. You can believe in certain values and policy without staying with the party, which has abandoned those things anyway.

Maybe it’s like realizing you are gay or an atheist. It takes time for some people to accept they are not part of the “norm” the rest of their family, business peers etc have always been a part of.

      • Reality.Bites

There are a large number of Republicans who don’t support him as much as they support the party. Think of the Romneys, Bushes, McMuffins, etc. They have counterparts among voters and some have had enough.

        • boobert

They are the “special” idiots ! They fell right in line rather than fight for a responsible candidate.

          • Reality.Bites

Sure – but TBH, your primary system is totally fucked. It’s beyond stupid to turn control over your party – both parties – over to mob rule.

But much as I despise Republicans, as I said months ago, I must have missed all those WWII movies where the diverse gang of Americans and Brits (never Canadians, of course) all fought each other instead of the Nazis.

Anyone who turns against Trump is my ally against Trump.

Unlike Trump, some of his erstwhile supporters can read, and the ones that can’t are starting to hear about the things the new tax bill contains that are going to hurt them in the coming years. And there are the things his Cabinet members support that are aimed at dismantling the country for the benefit of the super-rich. It’s enough to give at least some of them pause. Good.

      • safari

But do most followers of Jesus fund this madness?

I knew quite a few people who are both devoutly Christian and try to make themselves good people.

        This batch terrifies me.

        • JCF

Fund what? I fund only the Episcopal Church (mostly my local parish, and a big hunk of that goes to outreach/charity).

A majority of practicing American Christians are Roman Catholics, and they don’t do this shit (hardly, when most Palestinian Christians are Roman Catholic). Mainline Protestants have nothing to do w/ this (except for Middle East charity work, and that’s NOT Zionist). Even among all Protestants classified as “Evangelical”, only a *small* minority are into this “Christian Zionism/Build Temple/Armagaddon/”Bring Jesus Back!!!1!1” insanity.

        • Snarkaholic

          This works for me:
Before meeting family, do the following:
          1. Sit down and write a list of every single “problematic” family member.
          2. Under each person’s name, write any/all “safe” subjects you can discuss with them. By “safe” I mean things that you can talk to them about, that they’re passionate about, that won’t escalate into fistfights. For example, ask Aunt Sophie (who makes endless remarks about “those people”) about her gall bladder problems. You’ll be bored to death, but you can “check out” mentally/write your grocery list in your head, while politely nodding occasionally.
          3. Memorize the above list.
          4. Every Single Time the problematic relative starts their antagonistic spiel, steer the conversation back to their “safe” subject(s).

          • Natty Enquirer

It may also be necessary to suffer sudden and unpredictable bouts of nerve deafness.

Hey, whatever gets you through the dinner.

I’m midwestern. It’s how we operate.

          • Treant

I tend to use a different take.

            1. Sit down and write a list of every single “problematic” family member.
            2. Under each person’s name, estimate their weight, and where you could hide the body.
            3. Memorize the above list.
            4. If left alone in the room with the person, what happens, happens.

I have two relatives where your #2 doesn’t work; they’ll intentionally turn the conversation to heckle you.

          • safari

I’m classified as a postdoc. The center I work for has its long-term grant coming to an end. My contract was to end at the end of the year, but my team asked for an extension. Because of how it all works out, I must spend multiple work-week-equivalents working with my snowbird coworker. She’s usually remote, but the compromise was that I join her.

I haven’t done that trip since I was a little kid but if you are interested in caverns (stalagmites, stalactites, etc) you might want to detour to Diamond Caverns in Kentucky. Mammoth Cave National Park is right there too. Otherwise, I don’t have a lot of memories about that drive. We didn’t really stop anywhere aside from bathroom breaks, getting something to eat, and a little rest. Also, GA will seem like the longest state ever and if the Atlanta area is anything like it used to be the traffic is a nightmare. Try to avoid going through there around rush hour.

Now that I’m half-drunk: I’m switching my monitor to vertical orientation since I at one point wanted to do that. The idea is sound, but many monitors do weird things that assume — physically — that they are oriented horizontally.

      Even if it did.

When the United States broke off cease-fire talks with Russia over the war in Syria (after the Russian air force continued to bomb civilians in Aleppo), Russian President Vladimir Putin retaliated by suspending a nearly two-decades old arms agreement to get rid of his country’s extra weapons-grade plutonium.

Signed in 2000, the Plutonium Management and Disposition Agreement stipulated that each country dispose of weapons-grade plutonium they deemed no longer required for defense purposes. Each country agreed to get rid of 34 metric tons of its excess stockpile.

Get rid of 34 metric tons each. In excess. Oh, we have more than enough to make bombs.

So Palin called the police for help banning her son from having guns. Ironic

    • safari

No. He called in a drugged-drunk state with threats and drove over. His father greeted him with a pistol because he was afraid for lives. His son then broke through a window and beatings happened. The police were then called. Then his mother and father escaped (in separate vehicles) while their son took position on the roof to threaten the “peasant” police officers.

Ex-Trump adviser Carter Page accused academics who twice failed his PhD of bias
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/dec/22/trump-carter-page-phd-thesis-trump

    • safari

In fact, Page took three attempts to gain his doctorate from the University of London, finally succeeding in 2011.

That’s not how that should work. At all.

If you can pay for it, you can get a degree…

No, no it is not. Seriously.

          • safari

“Honorary” degree. Sure. That’s political. But otherwise? It should *hurt* the institution.

          • Karl Dubhe 2

            It should, but wont. 🙁

          • JT

It’s certainly causing embarrassment for the institution now.

          • Karl Dubhe 2

You’re right, but wrong. It shouldn’t be that way, but it is.

Rich people, or people who are rich enough, will do what Carter Page did, and the administration of any University on this planet will go along with that.

The ‘good’ thing is that they made him re-write the thing. Some universities won’t even bother to read the thesis before granting a degree.

          • safari

Revising a dissertation and defense is fine. But — the fact that such a poor thing came up in the first place is not excusable. Farking up is okay — but there is no reason that a PhD committee should allow a student to come to the actual defense — three times. This is not bumper bowling.

          • Karl Dubhe 2

          • JT

The examiners are likely different from those who gave supervision. Supervisors should normally not allow something so bad to get through. But, then, they may have had to deal with Page’s nonsense at that level and decided to pass it on to the next.

      • safari

Just to add from the article

In one unhappy note to his examiners, he writes: “Your actions to date
have been far more destructive than anything I have personally
experienced in my 39 years on this planet.” The fate of Khodorkovsky, he
adds, represents “the closest analogy in recent history to my trials”.

        • our various societies have awarded such intellects as George Bush an MBA, and princes of the middle east doctorates in subjects they have never actually studied. i had to study with one zillionaire’s wife when i was a grad student. she didn’t last long, but it was funny. people who buy their way into elite educational situations usually have no idea how uncomfortable they will be made to feel by their fellow students. rich people: just stick to your country clubs. grad school is too hard for you and you’ll just cry when you flunk a basic language course.

    • JT

“Page seemed to think that if he talked enough, people would think he

The only good thing the Palins did for their kids is make them work to support themselves. Bristol can always dangle the blond grandkids (two with a third on the way, unless you believe the popular Alaskan conspiracy theory that Trig is actually her son) in front of Sarah for cash, and otherwise she writes op-ed drivel for conservative publications and lectures on teen pregnancy.

Track just played his last sympathy card for being an Iraq veteran. No college and barely finished high school. He has big money problems, drug problems and always a step ahead of the law.

The younger kids are smart enough to stay out of the media spotlight. Willow just got engaged and Piper is still in high school. Trig is the only one who can’t work, but is probably still smarter than his brother and oldest sister.
