Senate’s Russia Collusion Probe Turns To Jill Stein

The Washington Post reports:

The Senate Intelligence Committee is looking at the presidential campaign of the Green Party’s Jill Stein for potential “collusion with the Russians,” a sign that the panel’s probe is far from over, even as allegations swirl that the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation is racing to a close.

The expansion of the investigation to include Stein suggests that the Senate intelligence probe will continue well into next year. That stands in contrast to the House, where Democrats have been charging that Republicans are pushing the House Intelligence Committee to finish up its investigation by the end of this year — before, Democrats say, it can be responsibly completed.

While you’re right that the 2000 election is having ramifications felt today, Gore was beat because he lost 3 debates to a fucking imbecile. He was trying to be “wholesome nice guy, perfect family man” and he got treated like a door mat.

Clinton’s 3yr old scandal didn’t help. But Gore stumbled away his chance.

I get daily emails from “Medium Daily Digest” with various blog posts, and every day there’s articles from Green Party activist Caitlyn Johnstone. I mostly just read the headlines, because it’s usually too ridiculous to waste time on, such as calling the Russia investigation fake and everyone who thinks there was collusion is a conspiracy theory nut and Clinton apologist. She thinks a coalition between the far left and alt right will eventually happen and save the country.

      • Raising_Rlyeh

        • jerry

The far left is looking an awful lot like the far right these days, and they seem to have many of the same goals.

      • Mark_in_MN

Is Caitlyn Johnstone the crazy “journalist” who was going on and on about how Russia was no big deal and raises no real cause for concern to proper thinking people, criticism of Russia is mere propaganda painting that nation in a bad light, and making horrifically nonsensical arguments to those ends while sounding like she didn’t realize that the Soviet Union fell a quarter of a century ago, all the way back to early- to mid-2016, at least?

        • jerry

Yes, sounds like her. Along with the “Bernie would’ve won if the Democrats hadn’t cheated in the primary” narrative. It really takes some serious delusion to not see how flawed a candidate Bernie actually was, and that he was the GOP’s preferred opponent.

  • so the thing is, when you’re a real far lefty radical, so much makes you sad. for one thing, there is no real organization that represents you. the media blames you for everything from earthquakes to cancer. nobody understands why you get upset about the news. usually, you’re poor and powerless and often people call your skin ‘blah.’

sigh. i never really knew much about her, truth be told. yes, i was a bernie person. i was for dean too, back in the day. wow did i love him. there have been some others i’ve liked, but truthfully? nobody i really like will ever make it. all this stein russia stuff is disturbing. it basically suggests that the ‘official’ party of the far left in the US is a puppet organization of putin’s. yeah. the only thing more depressing i can think of right now is the environment.

look, i’m not a russian spy. i wish i were, i’d get paid more. most of the people you may know or read are also not russian agents. jill apparently is. that’s a shame, but whatever. the fact that she is does not change what i believe about things like health care, employment, retirement security, war, or the environment. those things have nothing to do with her and still need to be addressed.

    • greenmanTN

I don’t have a problem with Green supporters or other supporters of leftist groups. I’m probably way left of Clinton myself. What I do have a problem with is purists and “protest voters” because the chances of their winning is nil and they are in effect voting for the worst person running because they may as well have not voted at all. That’s how we ended up with the Dotard in office. (Aside from mass voter disenfranchisement and, I believe, actual vote tampering in a few key states.)

      • Reality.Bites

Green voters in North America are not leftists. For the most part, they’re just plain idiots.

        • kaydenpat

          Ouch!

      • 1. official members of the Green party in NA are a very small group.
        2. there are more “far” leftists than most white people understand.
        3. young people don’t care about our problems.

these things combine to make the whole conversation about her irrelevant. she did not cost clinton the election. she seems increasingly part of a fairly complicated russian conspiracy to hand the presidency to an idiot puppet under putin’s control. he is the richest man in the world, you know. a scary character even if he isn’t a super smart evil genius.

        • and just so we’re clear: which is larger? the number of people who were likely to have voted for a democrat, who did not vote, vs the number of people who did vote, for a left leaning candidate but not HRC? when you folks can start talking about that, i will have more respect for you.

          • greenmanTN

Voter apathy is a huge issue. But when someone like Trump gets elected and National Park land is sold to the highest bidder, the “safety net” is destroyed, health care is taken away from millions while the very wealthiest make out like (aptly) bandits, I don’t want to hear a fucking word out of the mouths of “protest voters.”

“Both parties are the same” or “Hillary was just as bad”? Bullshit.

          • you’re focusing your attention on a tiny minority of people who happen to hold really good values and who mostly are trying to make things better. why? when there is a gigantic proportion of the country who can’t be bothered to get off their asses and save us all.

i can get vicious on this issue. specifically, exactly, how many new voters did you register in time for the last presidential election? i know how many i did. i will not be lectured to, bc the way i got people to vote? talking like i do here. not mealy mouthed platitudes from over paid DC image specialists.

          • Boreal

Fuck their values and yours if you think what we have is ok. We have trump. Are you happy with your values now?

          • Tread

I sadly had to block her weeks ago. I’ve been commenting with chicago dyke for over a decade, but her unhinged rants about Clinton have pushed me over the edge. She truly believes that Clinton would be just as bad as Trump. It’s cognitive dissonance to the extreme. And then to hear her complain about Trump, knowing full well she supported a former candidate who consistently tore down the only viable alternative to Trump, after all the primaries were over, is abominable.

          • Boreal

She’s been annoying in the past but I never blocked her. This insistence of hers that she is the only person who helps to get out the vote would be amusing if she were joking but she is delusional and thinks that only she did any work to register voters or get them to the polls. I have no time for idiots and Clinton bashers like her while she ignores the Nazis she helped elect.

          • greenmanTN

I have enough ire for both. If you draw a Venn Diagram of what leftist voters supposedly care about and Democrats there is a large amount of overlap, unlike with the GOP, and your candidate is NOT GOING TO WIN or even place. And this isn’t just about Stein voters but those who sat it out in a cry-baby snit or wrote in Bernie or whoever. And I will not be lectured by you either and if you think you can be vicious, you vote discarding idiot, hold my beer.

          • Boreal

Not only will I hold your beer, I’ll buy you one my friend.

          • Boreal

I know who she is. I’ve been posting here since 2013. That doesn’t mean I have to take her shit or be lectured,

          • Dazzer

No. Of course you don’t have to.

But calling her a ‘bot’ when you know full well she isn’t is – frankly – beneath you.

I’ve already nailed my colours to the mast and said I think the US Green Party is pretty pathetic – at least at it’s upper levels – but I don’t agree with people going off on chicago dyke just because she has a different opinion.

          • Boreal

I don’t care if you like me going off on her. She is sanctimonious and now she is blocked.

          • Dazzer

That’s fine and it’s entirely up to you.

I do understand your frustration. She once decided that I was a rightwing, UKIP supporting troll from Britain and spent an entire evening telling me off.

After a bit, I decided it was just funny.

On a lot of things she has interesting and useful things to say (well, for me, at least).

          • Boreal

You are welcome to read her rants but many of us here do work to register voters, get them out to vote, work as activists, etc. For her to lecture us on how wonderful she is in doing the same thing is insulting.

We have thought about it. Many who didn’t vote stayed home because Stein and Sanders jumped in on vilifying Clinton for a whole fucking year and painting her as the devil and if trump won, then ‘oh well, we’ll get our fucking revolution.’.

          • what universe do you live in? Stein and Sanders both received nothing but negative coverage in the mainstream media, when they got any attention at all. i really cannot understand why it is so hard for some to admit: HRC’s campaign sucked. there was so much she could have run on, that instead she ran away from. yes, i will lecture you bc i notice you also didn’t answer my question. do you have any idea how hard it was to get the disinterested to vote? oh, that’s right, you don’t. you didn’t even try.

I have regularly voted for Green politicians in UK national and local elections – and they’ve frequently won.

I would never vote Green in the US.

There is literally an ocean of difference between the Greens in Europe (and Canada and Australia and New Zealand) and the Greens in the US.

I don’t understand how the party in the US can call itself ‘Green’. It doesn’t seem to have any real (for that read complicated) policies for the environment and a plan for survival.

        • Boreal

They are just spoilers here. The local greens vilify the democrats where I live but say nothing about the republicans.

          • Dazzer

In the UK, Green voters have agreed to vote for a Liberal Democrat to keep a Conservative out of power.

And while is just one Green MP at the moment, Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party do very little to organise a vote against her at General Elections.

Our greens in Canada are basically Tory environmentalists. It’s also pretty much a one-woman party

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

The problem with labeling someone a purist is that, you don’t know if the rhetoric was hard-wired into them for purity, or if hey were just trying to move the ball further to the left but, still voted for Hillary as the best candidate.

        • greenmanTN

What I call a purist is someone who refuses to vote for a candidate because they aren’t perfect, when the enemy of good is “perfect.” Idealism is, or can be, a good thing, but when the net result is having conservative justices put on the SCOTUS who roll back hard-won advances it took decades to achieve and will take a generation to undo then idealism has become dysfunctional, even toxic.

I do not blame anyone AT ALL for pushing for social justice, environmental protection, racial and gender equality, etc but the reality is that in our 2 party political system we often have to settle for what is better and even if that means the lesser of two “evils,” your high standards are cold comfort when your rights are being stripped away.

          https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C7Lil6qVAAAReWT.jpg

          • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I get that but, I suspect that a lot of those claiming purity were no more pure than any of us and didn’t want to back down publicly yet still voted Hillary. Hey, no matter how you slice and dice, she WON the popular vote. It was the stacked, Electoral Shithole that gave us Trump.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I kinda feel you. I often look at the Dem Party and get pissed they don’t go after the banks (especially after the Big Short because even though I wasn’t personally affected, seeing housing prices crash in half was scary as fuck) and Big Pharma (not just for the opioid problem but also for price gouging their own fucking country).

Despite mountains of evidence, it seems all the Green Party and die-hard Bernie people believe that…that it’s just Democrats trying to make an excuse for Clinton’s loss. And they still believe Bernie would’ve won if he got the nomination.

    • romanhans

I’m with you, but I came to the realization America doesn’t work. Leftists who don’t vote Democrat make the Republicans win. Here in Germany the parties are represented in government according to votes received.

It’s simple and smart and means leftists don”t think the situation is hopeless. It’s not your fault. You’re the victim, & you’re being blamed. The system is, as we clearly see today, shit.

    • MooseMalloy

All you stupid little greenies need to grow up and vote for US because WE deserve it and YOU OWE US YOUR VOTE! Hillary Clinton is a wonderful saint who is as picked on and harassed and you owe it to her as a wonderful wonderful woman to vote for her OR YOU’RE STUPID and EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT!!!

    • Dazzer

I don’t think Jill Stein is a Russian spy. I think she’s stupid and unprincipled – which leads to a malevolent form of politician.

I also understand the attraction of the left. I’m probably more left-wing than most Americans (and that’s not a boast or an “I’m lefter than thou” claim. It’s just a result of my culture and upbringing).

In the UK, in the last election, the Labour Party was led by a 70-year-old unabashed Socialist called Jeremy Corbyn. His own MPs couldn’t stand him and they no-confidenced him and called for another leadership election – which he resoundingly won.

His supporters – from a party-within a party called Momentum – reminded me of some of the worst BernieBros. Quite seriously, their ‘purity’, their insistence that Corbyn was the result of an Immaculate Conception, and their refusal to debate anything apart from doctrine avoided the living fuck out of me.

But then the election started, the Labour Party put out a manifesto that contained solid policy (but with a lot of hidden compromises to centre and right of the party) and Corbyn barnstormed the country.

He didn’t win the election, but he massively reduced a Tory majority.

He did so because the left generally got behind Corbyn. And if there were another election today, he’d probably win.

    • Gerry Fisher

I don’t think this is a comment on progressive politics. I think this is a comment on Jill Stein and her over-the-top supporters.

Needless to say, I do not talk to this moron anymore. Western Imperialism is bad, but it doesn’t mean the opponent is pure and innocent.

  • netxtown

If they can tie her campaign to donnie as a means to bleed off lefty votes – good. Take the bitch down. If not – why bother. She’s a nothing in the polls but a bleeder.

    • Reality.Bites

If she’s a criminal, take her down regardless of success or failure. And in several key states she got more votes than the difference between the two candidates.

We also never know how much effect candidates like her have in suppressing votes for the legitimate ones, as in “Well I know from her why I shouldn’t vote for Clinton, so why bother voting at all since Stein can’t win.

Borg Queen was a lot purtier….

      • Christopher

        And a lot more trustworthy.

The Borg Queen was at least up front with what she wanted to do.

      • William

        And better put together.

        Love that movie and book.

      • Natty Enquirer

Did you catch the “ghostly” sound bed’s brief appearance at 0:05? This was a frightfully overused effect in 70s and 80s entertainment, most notably in the (coincidentally?) identically titled Ghost Story television series.

    • edrex

      the borg are never separated.

    • Dazzer

The Borg Queen got to schtup Patrick Stewart.

I suspect Jill Stein will never have that opportunity.

Quality will out, as they say!

    • MooseMalloy

Haha yeah Stein is stupid and ugly and stole our votes!

I guess they missed the memo from the President they were no longer allowed to say “Merry Christmas.” Thank goodness our “Dear Leader” has finally freed us from the trany of pagan political correctness!

  • Brian

Whatwhatwhat?!? No way. Comrade Stein was just visiting Mother Russia as a serious candidate for president of the USA.

Ugh. The only thing ‘green’ about her is the dollars she scams every four years.

  • KnownDonorDad
  • Tomcat

It’s starting to look a lot like Collusion, all around the land.

  • sacrob

I don’t think that any collusion really was malicious. My best guess is that with third parties being shit and pissed upon, Stein welcomed any help and support. Stupid, yes, but malicious, probably not. And we know further now how much the Russkies were eager to meddle in even baffling ways.

    • Natty Enquirer

Stupid, malicious, whatever. It’s criminal that counts.

    • greenmanTN

If she knowingly took money from Russia and was supported by Russian bots who ran her as a spoiler (and what other motive could there be?) then yes it was malicious and, I would think, criminal.

      • Tread

Agreed. There’s malevolence there. Actively receiving assistance from another hostile country to sway democratic functions in this country still counts as treason.

    • Girlgoon

I might give her the benefit of the doubt on this one cause she’s such a clueless flake. The green party needs another Ralph nader type to regain its credibility

      • Reality.Bites

The party needs to acknowledge that parties are not built at the presidential level.

      • William

        Ralph Nader, oy.

      • Boreal

Ralph Nader helped give us Dumbya and she helped give us trump.

    • licuado de platano

      It’s malicious as fuck.

  • kaydenpat

Good. She doesn’t need to run for president every four years. She can find something else to do.

    • I’m now scared on behalf of her patients.

      • kaydenpat

Oh dear! I didn’t know she was an actual doctor. She strikes me as kind of spacey.

        • Girlgoon

She’s a complete nut job wanting to ban the sale and use of WiFi until proven not to be a health hazard

          • kaydenpat

Wow. She sounds like Alex Jones.

      • Mikey

I’ve always been scared for her patients. The woman is a woo-loving, science-denying, anti-vax, “natural”, nutcase.
There’s no way she should even HAVE a medical licence.

        • kaydenpat

Exactly. That’s why I’m shocked that she’s a real doctor. I thought that was an honorary title. Sigh.

  • Halou

Isn’t Devin Nunes on the House Committee?

      Gary Johnson still exists.

    • kaydenpat

I just took a quick look at his twitter page and holy shit! Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

      • AJD

Basically that’s Greenwald’s response every time something new about the Russia investigation comes out.

      • Tread

I’m just trying to figure out what happened to him. Didn’t he also go to Russia for a spell in 2015?

  • bkmn

She was awfully chummy with Putin and RT. Glad they are looking at this.

  • William

The Ellen Jamesians aren’t going to be happy.

  • Ish

Hillarybots would cheer Senator Joseph McCarthy.

    • Dazzer

Awwwww… Diddums. This investigation has you worried?

Oh well. ‘Tis the season for snowflakes I guess.

      • Ish

You people are fucking deranged. I didn’t vote for Stein and do not support her but the government investigating the left for utterly dubious reasons is something that should deeply concern the gay community. Not that you fucking Hillbots have anything to do with the Left.

        • Dazzer

If Stein has done nothing wrong, she has nothing to fear from this investigation.

I rcall you using that argument about Clinton during the Benghazi hearings.

Are you saying now that you didn’t believe the point you were making?

          • Ish

“If Stein has done nothing wrong, she has nothing to fear from this investigation.” Is that the Bootlickers motto? You know witchhunts don’t work like that.

As for Benghazi, I don’t give a shit. Burning down the US embassy/CIA black site was a good start. I have no idea who you are confusing me with.

          • Dazzer

            You sweet child.

I have absolutely no confusion about who you are.

          • Ish

I doubt that, “child.” I’m 59 years old.

          • Tread

Which makes your insistence you speak for the left even sadder.

        • Tread

There you go again, speaking for “The Left.” The only thing I find dubious are so-called leftists trying to claim liberalism for themselves. Assholes are assholes, and you fit the bill.

          • Ish

Liberalism is not leftism and I do not call myself a liberal.

          • Tread

Wow, keep tying yourself in rhetorical knots. It’s as if the Internet doesn’t have a long memory.

          • Ish

      • Ish

  • justmeeeee

Hey Hill-bots! Come out, come out, wherever you are!

    • Halou

      https://media.giphy.com/media/KOy9r0Fj1NKso/giphy.gif

This has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. She didn’t tell Jill Stein to run against her, didn’t tell her to go to Moscow with Traitor Timmy and make merry with Putin. Oh, and she also didn’t conspire with Russia to lose the election and get Trump elected either.

    • Dazzer

If Stein has done nothing wrong, she has nothing to be scared about.

She asks to be treated as an equal to other politicians in the US – and now she is.

      • justmeeeee

haha, not to hear the Hill-bots tell it. Since she’s being questioned by the Senate, that makes her GUILTY!!! Question: What does it take to make a Hill-bot love a Republican senate committee investigator? Answer: if the Republican senate committee investigator is going after Bernie or Jill, we Hill-bots love them!!! YEAH!

        • Dazzer

If you don’t believe in due process, just say so.

I don’t remember you objecting to Clinton being subjected to all those Benghazi hearings.

Stein says she’s there to play with the grown-ups – so let her do so.

          • justmeeeee

no need, she is already convicted in the Court of Hill-bot-ism!

          • Dazzer

You’ve just been boxed into a corner by logic, haven’t you?

It’s such a pain when that happens.

            But better luck next time.

  • Leo

A Bernie-Hillary flame-war. This place is so predictable. Love it, but yeah.

    Be back tonight.

    About Fucking Time!

  • Robincho

I’ve seen this fucking dinner table shot with Pootie forever and only NOW are people wondering what the fuck she was doing there?…

    • Treant

I know, right? They got Flynn already. It’s obvious Stein was there for a reason as well.

    • -M-

Only now is her role being formally and publicly investigated.

  • Charlie In SF

    Another “useful idiot” for Putin.

  • GayOldLady

Didn’t Susan Sarandon vote for Jill Stein along with a lot of other folks who call themselves Democrats? There is significant evidence that not only did Russia get on board with Jill during the General Election in order to draw votes away from Hillary, but they assisted the Bernie Sanders campaign in the primary for the same reason. Now you have to ask yourself, WHY?

    • Boreal

Warning we have apologists for the 3rd party voters in this thread.

      • Tread

It’s funny. They only seem to show up when there are Bernie/Stein threads. It’s almost as if they have Google Alerts set up that notify them where to comment, as if they were bots…

        • Boreal

Your last 5 words say it all.

  • JWC

have often wondered why Jill stein was there with putin and Flynn Alwats been a tad under the radar

  • geoffalnutt

Of course! Her candidacy was designed to further siphon off votes from Hillary, muddy the waters, etc. Putin paid her well. She needs to retire in Moscow…if she isn’t sent to jail.

    • Ish

A comment worthy of Infowars conspiracy theorists.

      • Tread

Go crawl back under your bridge.

        • Ish

Hillbot derangement syndrome. Fucking blame everything on the Russians and call anyone who disagrees with you a troll. You people are insane.

          • Tread

Kevin DuJan called. He wants his schtick back.

          • Ish

How do you tie your shoes in the morning without knowing the difference between left and right? Also, last I checked DuJan was a Hillbot like you.

          • Dazzer

Don’t you have a Trotskyist you can assassinate with an ice-pick somewhere?

You’re not bright enough or funny enough to be a Marxist-Leninist, you’re not principled enough to be a Trot, so I’m torn between seeing you as a Workerist (you’re displaying all the misogyny and pretend philosophy) or a Stalinist because you’re too fucking thick to answer a simple question.

If you want to play left-wing politics, you’re welcome to – but you’re really going to have to up your game.

          • Ish

What a sad attempt to diagnose my politics; both bizarre and off target; how hilarious for a Hillbot attempting to lecture anyone on principles. Could be solved by not being a shithead and having a civil discussion. Nothing I have said is either misogynist (I dare you to back that up in ANY JMG thread about Jill Stein), Stalinist, workerist or particularly philosophical. Sorry you used up all your big words for the day.

          • Dazzer

Then, how would you describe your politics?

And describe them for themselves – not in binary opposition to anything else..

          • Ish

I’m an independent revolutionary communist. I find myself most influenced by Lenin and Mao but in the absence of a good party I don’t subscribe to a rigid silo.

          • Dazzer

OK, that makes perfect sense. I don’t get much Lenin from your posts, but the Maoism is entirely rational (to me – and in no way am I insulting or denigrating you for that) in your posts.

I apologise for not talking about Maoists in my original posts (I’ve not met too many and it was ignorant of me not to include that philosophy in my parade of communism).

I absolutely don’t agree with you, but your philosophy is valid in world political thought and I apologise again for treating you like you were ignorant when, in fact, it was me.

          • Ish

Thank you for the civil response.

          • Tread

What the fuck are you talking about? DuJan started HillBuzz, and was one of the first anti-Hillary super trolls. You’re a disingenuous liar.

      • Boreal

        Shut your piehole Perdouche jr.

  • juanjo54

I still remember her comments about how a Trump win would be the best thing to happen to the Green Party. She explained that he would be a horrible president and as a result people would abandon the Democratic Party and all become Greens. The complete absence of logic in that claim was astounding then and still is astounding.

  • Dk

all the moaning about how she was the only conscientious choice for some, what a bunch of crap.

  • MooseMalloy

OMG Stein stole all our votes and hid them in her super-sekrit underwater lair! THOSE ARE OUR VOTES!!! Stein and Nader are traitors to our country who took the votes WE deserve so remember next time YOU OWE US YOUR VOTES and not Jill “Russian Stooge” Stein!!!

    • Tread

No, we just expect people to not help elect a racist, bigot asshole because they think the other candidate is a bitch.

      • MooseMalloy

Yeah! Who do those people think they are? THEY OWE US THEIR VOTE!

        • Tread

Right, that’s exactly what happened. This whole notion that you owe the Democrats your vote is something you shit-for-brains cooked up yourselves. We hoped you had common human decency to keep a motherfucker from driving the country off the cliff. But hey, enjoy your tax cuts and eventual stripping of our rights. Hope that protest vote felt good when the lights go out and you can keep warm by the glow of the nuclear fallout.

  • Thorn Spike

    About f*cking time.

On Facebook (back in my Facebook days) I suddenly got all sorts of ads for Stein, “an alternative” “it’s not a wasted vote”, etc, with the obvious intent of siphoning off voted for Clinton. I didn’t know about the Russian meddling then, but I definitely noticed an unexpectedly large number of Stein ads.
