THE PHILIPPINES: President Rodrigo Duterte Reverses, Backs Same-Sex Marriage, Vows To Protect LGBT Rights

Reuters reports:

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday expressed his support for same-sex unions, after previously declaring his opposition to gay marriage, in an about-face that may displease bishops in the mainly Roman Catholic country.

Speaking at a gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in his hometown Davao City, Duterte vowed to protect the rights of homosexuals and invited them to nominate a representative to work in his government.

“I said I am for (same) sex marriage if that is the trend of the modern times,” he said. “If that will add to your happiness, I am for it.”

The Philippine Star reports:

Duterte assured members of the LGBT community that they would not experience discrimination under his regime. “There will be no oppression and we will recognize your importance in society,” the president said.

“You have my guarantee that everybody, at least during my term, will be protected and nurtured as a human being.” Duterte said he is willing to appoint members of the LGBT community to his Cabinet.

“I would be willing to accept all. I don’t have any problem with that. Now find me the brightest here in the Philippines. Give me a bright person. He might be gay, he might be lesbian. I’d like to nominate or appoint somebody upon the nomination,” the president said.

RELATED: In September, Duterte called the head of the Commission on Human Rights a “gay pedophile” for objecting to police killings of teenagers. In August, Duterte ordered police to shoot any “idiots” who resist arrest. In May 2017, Duterte imposed martial law and “joked” that soldiers are now allowed to rape up to three women. Duterte has bragged of “personally” murdering suspected criminals and has compared himself favorably to Adolf Hitler, saying that he would happily execute millions of drug users. Trump has praised Duterte’s “unbelievable job” in giving police and vigilante squads free rein to murder suspected drug users and dealers and invited him to visit the White House. An estimated 6000 Filipinos have been slain in the streets on Duterte’s orders.

    Similar to Donald Trump.

Somebody has something pretty damaging on him.

    • another_steve

That, or someone close to him came out.

Not that that always changes the hearts and minds of monsters. There are several classic examples here in the states where a close relative coming out to a homophobic monster had zippo effect.

You’re already here and posting. It’d be trivial to scrape this site and get a list of all the active accounts. The posts of those accounts can then be sifted for connections and personal information.

And I don’t mean scraped and analyzed by the government or some other large/shady organization. All these links and information are public, no hacking required; anyone with a little computer scripting know-how could do this.

She sort of sits and engages me for treats. We wake up in the morning and she is in bed with us. Just letting her know she is in a trusting environment and having patience by allowing her to open up at her speed has gotten results.

    • Treant

Who gave her the bow job? 🙂

One friend of mine rescued a greyhound. It took two years, starting as the scariest dog who pretty much liked her owner (and would tolerate me as I was careful to move very slowly and gently in her presence). A slightly raised voice and she’d run from the room.

She ended up hyper-friendly and demanding of affection once she was sure of her people and her environment.

You’re doing a great job if she’s already sleeping with you and asking for extra food.

      • Jerry Kott

Thanks. We have never been around a dog this scared. She was fine for the first week then went into this space that she is slowly coming out. For the last 33 years , all our dogs were rescued but never had one with no social skills and so mistrustful. Her big blue eyes make her look spooked all the time. Thought many of you who have been supportive in the past postings, would appreciate an update.

      • olandp

At one point I had three greyhounds, rescued form the track. They were wonderful dogs. (One lived to be 14.) I live in a condo now with no yard for them to run so I have small dogs now, but I miss having a greyhound.

        • SoCalGal20

Greyhounds are fantastic dogs. If I lived somewhere with the space I would definitely have one. They’re hilarious. They think they’re lap dogs but get them outside and it’s all “What’s this? What’s that?! Oh! A squirrel! Can’t you go faster?!” LOL

    • BobSF_94117

Speaking of trust, that bow is gonna set things back at least a couple weeks.

      • Jerry Kott

Thank you- she has a good spirit and is sweet. She is bonding more with my partner than with me which I am fine with. She will eventually get around with me. She did do something sweet recently. She hadn’t been coming upstairs at night until recently. She had chosen not to. However in early December I had a birthday and when I woke up in the morning she was asleep in bed next to me with her snout on my thigh-got a photo. I know she is doing the best she can with what she has had to work with. Love is something new to her. She is making us both the best version of who we are.
        Peace

    • Bambino

I know she is pleading for Fox to hire these abused women again because they all want to work. What she need to acknowledge is Fox corporation is not a normal company. It’s set up for predators for the like of Ailes and O’Reilly. It’s like Silicon Valley where they provide recreational benefits for their employees, Fox is providing their men full sexual access on any women in the corporation. No women should ever work in that corporations unless it’s being dissolve and taken over by a legitimate company that acknowledge basic human rights and fundamental employment condition for all employees.

Man and I just witnessed a murder of crows (that’s the technical term for a flock of them) scare off a Great Horned Owl. The boy was on a tree limb not 30 feet from our house. At least 30 crows started tormenting him, flying as close to him as possible without actually touching him. And yelling their heads off.

The owl put up with it for a solid five minutes, then said “fuck this shit” and flew off.

Also don’t mess with crows. They can actually tell each other who they hate and the others will attack them, too.

      • Treant

They also communicate where the food is, which explains the crows that visit my gardens with reasonable regularity.

        • another_steve

There’s been extensive research into crow smarts. They’re very very smart birds.

          • Paula

That’s why they are such pests in some places. They are smarter that 97% of the human population.

          • another_steve

            Yes.

People who live in rural and semi-rural areas have witnessed this many times: A crow working roadkill. A squirrel or something similar.

The perfect precision with which the crow works it.

They can detect a distant car approaching and will get out of the way, with two seconds to spare.

          • SoCalGal20

Corvids (the group that includes crows and ravens) are one of the smartest bird groups. They can use tools, they learn from each other, they can problem-solve, they can work together as a group, they can mimic, they can remember individuals, etc.

How wonderful, and right up close. The oddest flock behavior we’ve ever seen (and even we didn’t believe we were seeing it) was a few years ago in summer. Husband and I were sitting on the porch with two cats having cocktails looking at the hummingbird feeders. It was mid summer and we both remember there being maybe 25 hummingbirds around, so not at the height of migration, but not few. We heard a sound we hadn’t for a long time. A partridge was walking down the driveway (lots of small ground animals have disappeared since coyotes arrived). We were surprised to see the partridge, but so were the cats, so before they could get too interested, husband walked down to shoo the partridge. It flew up into a small tree located near the feeders. Suddenly these dozens of hummingbirds together flew at the confused partridge which fled into a much higher tree further away. The hummingbirds pursued this poor hapless partridge and zoomed around it in the tree entirely abandoning the feeders until it flew off like you said. We figure they made some sort of mistake in identity but it was the only time we’ve seen hummingbirds act in unison, rather than just playing in twos or threes.

Probably competing for a big multinational company, maybe Amazon HQ. American, Canadian, EU and Australian companies largely expect their employees to have the same rights they have at home. So far the only country in Asia that recognizes SSM is Taiwan.

No, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality but gave the government 2 years to legislate. wiki

Heading out tomorrow to get my poster board so I can create a good sign to carry.

Supposed to be snowy on Friday, so will be prepared with boots/warm clothing.
Any tips from others out there on how else I should be preparing or what I should bring?

Thermos with hot (but not scaldingly hot) drink. Also, other fluids as you’ll dehydrate in the cold, comparatively dry (even if it’s snowing) air.

Extra padding for when they shoot rubber bullets into your flesh. Rebreather for the pepper spray. Grounding copper strands for the Taser attacks. You should be fine!

          • PickyPecker

I’ve never owned a cell phone and do not have one. Friends live right across the street from the courthouse. Police station is less than a block away. Very small town.

Fair enough, stay safe and have fun.

    • SoCalGal20

Get the ACLU app for your phone if you have a smartphone. In addition to having a section that outlines your rights (for assembly, free speech, etc) it also has a video feature that will automatically download your video footage to a secure server. So if you see the police behaving in a way they shouldn’t you can film it and don’t have to worry if police try to confiscate your phone or erase it.

Bring some snacks, water, maybe some heat packs if it’s going to be very cold. Oh, and comfortable shoes.

      • PickyPecker

Happy Birthday, SoCalGal!!! Is your cold any better?

My biggest piece of advice is to be aware if there are any black bloc protesters and steer clear of them. There are here in Oakland at just about every protest I have seen or participated in. They are here simply for destructive purposes. They will do whatever they can to destroy property, antagonize, and disrupt. They will lash out violently against the police and other protesters. I have been assaulted by them for asking them not to smash shop windows in my neighborhood (small business owner’s windows-a fucking LGBT, person-of-color small business owner’s!) and I have seen them assault other peaceful protesters who attempt to prevent them from their destruction. They are coordinated in groups. My conclusion is to just avoid them and stay out of their way lest you become a victim of their destruction-they will do anything to complete their mission. It’s very sad to see this but I am 100% serious that I think one can only stay away from them. Meanwhile-get out there and protest! Peacefully!!!

      • Tread

There’s a growing suspicion they’re cops in disguise, to delegitimize protests and make them appear violent.

        • ahughes798

Exactly! Do any of them ever get arrested?

        • Refugay

          Another reason to avoid them.

      • Bad Tom

How do you identify them? Just dressed in black?

        • MaryJOGrady

With black masks/bandannas around their faces, usually. In my experience they specialize in getting other people arrested.

    • billbear1961
    • I’m sorry to say, from our Seattle experiences during protests, we have learned to keep a protest backpack to be stored in the closet for the moment it’s needed. Google what you’ll need as a quick antidote for being pepper/mace sprayed by the police. We also keep a stack of handouts in the knapsack that is a concise summary of why we’re protesting, and that cites additional informational resources to hand out to people who are in the area, but not to protest–they’ll often ask you to explain why you’re there, and it’s an excellent opportunity to potentially recruit other who will resist. Good luck!

    • Robincho

Just avoid the words libety and tranny. Which of course you would anyway…

OT: I think the rule of thumb should be this but isn’t for so many people: Vote for President the person who wants to help kids like this not someone who obsesses infinitely more about which orifices is used in consensual adult banging.

    https://www.yahoo.com/gma/1st-grader-asks-food-blanket-heartbreaking-letter-santa-212708130–abc-news-topstories.html

Ruth Espiricueta, a first-grade teacher at Monte Cristo Elementary School in Edinburg, Texas, asked her students this week to write a letter to Santa Claus about something they want and something they need, after a lesson about the difference between the two. When school was dismissed for the day, Espiricueta began reading the letters and was taken aback in particular by one student’s note.

The 7-year-old girl wrote to Santa, “I have [been] good this day. This Christmas I would like a ball and a food. I need a [blanket].”

“I never expected for students to ask for things we usually take for granted,” Espiricueta told ABC News. “I was heartbroken because no one should ever go hungry or be cold on winter nights.”

    • Treant

Some jobs ago, the place I worked had a Giving Tree for kids from various local agencies (some were with their parent(s), some not, all were in some distress).

You’d expect the same kinds of gift requests that my nieces would proffer given a modest budget; small electronics, hobby items, cosmetics, that kind of thing.

Yeah, talk about soul-crushing. Requests that I remember ranged from “a ball,” to other basic take-for-granted-it’s-in-the-toychest stuff.

      Most of us way over-spent.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

I read about kids who love going to school and dread summer break, partly because it’s the only time they are guaranteed to eat breakfast & lunch.

But good news! The newest school budgets cut lunches!

It’s only going to get much worse, unless you rebel against gangster government, against a CRIMINAL party, one so corrupt and contemptuous of the rule of law that it no longer has ANY business exercising legitimate authority in a genuine democracy, in ANY modern CIVILIZED country.

A poster on Political Wire said to me he “hopes” our government’s checks and balances will work. To which I replied:

Americans have to make SURE the checks and balances work–you aren’t helpless, and you aren’t SERFS. You’re citizens, not subjects; and these bastards work for YOU.

If no one else will hold them accountable, YOU, the American people, have to. YOURS is the Sovereign Authority. Let them know that by exercising it.

Or haven’t you, as a people, the GUTS that the Poles have??

The American people and the Democratic party allowed–without PROTESTING–this party of SEDITIONISTS to steal a SCOTUS seat, and they are about to allow them, after their naked corruption of the legislative process, to push through a corrupt bill which is nothing short of PILLAGE, robbery of the many to further enrich the already wealthy!

The American people are a people without HONOUR, devoid of self-respect, SERFS, who will not FIGHT to defend their DEMOCRACY from GANGSTERS!!

Chipmunks are, indeed, nature’s drama queens. We live in the woods and have a fairly large population of them here.

They do best in the spring and summer following a year of good tree-production of nuts.

In other years, they prosper less well.

      • GanymedeRenard

I’ve always liked them, for some strange reason. Perhaps because I’m a drama queen in rehab myself?

        • another_steve

          Quite possibly, GR.

And it is the MEDIA in this country who have let this come about, by not going after the right’s media LIE machines YEARS ago, and by refusing to hold baldfaced liars strictly and relentlessly ACCOUNTABLE to their goddamned TWO faces!

I’m revisiting the original video version of Tales of the City and wondered what had happened to Marcus D’Amico, the original Michael Mouse Tolliver, who didn’t return to the sequels. He apparently didn’t do much more film, but did a lot of stage in London. Wiki quotes Armistead Maupin as saying that he didn’t opt out because of his sexuality. But D’Amico also is quoted as saying he was earlier concerned about typecasting, but no longer is. He did, however, go on to play in Angels in America in London, for which he was nominated for an Olivier award. I wonder what the full story is.

    • Dazzer

I worked on the show in the UK. Maupin wanted D’Amico to come out. D’Amico refused and Maupin insisted he not be cast in any sequels. There was a lot of fighting on the set.

      • JT

Wow. Thanks. That’s right it was a joint venture with Channel 4. What work was done on it in the UK?

That’s too bad. I’m sure he regrets it now. He was so good in the original.

        • Reality.Bites

None that I’m aware of as far as filming is concerned. The first one was shot in LA and San Francisco. The sequels were shot in Montreal and San Francisco.

Co-productions can have to do with financing and nationality of talent, not necessarily shooting locations. The CW superhero shows shot in Vancouver aren’t co-productions with Canada. they’re American shows shot in Canada.

Sad news. One of our CalFire firefighters from San Diego County was killed fighting the Thomas Fire the other day. 32 years old, had a wife and little girl and his wife is pregnant with their second child. His funeral procession from Ventura County down to San Diego County was today. I went out to Temecula and every overpass had firefighters stationed along with townspeople. I decided to go down to my local overpass near where the Lilac fire was to wait. Very sad but seemed the right thing to do. One of the CalFire stations is just down the road from where I live and I see the firefighters out and about in town all the time.
    🙁

Firefighters and first responders are heroes on a daily basis. They don’t get enough credit for what they do every day. They regularly risk their lives to assist their fellow humans. When one loses her/his life, it is a huge loss to their families but it’s also a loss to the communities they serve.

This sort of plays into that wink and nod Chuck Todd and Bill Kristol had earlier this week. The gossip is something’s brewing. If I ventured a guess I’d be WaPo is behind this. They’ve been ahead in a lot of the investigations.

“Paranoia grips Capitol Hill as harassment scandal spreads”
“Lawmakers and aides are consumed by one question: Who’s next?”

“The details change almost daily, but the rumor won’t die: A credible news organization is preparing to unmask at least 20 lawmakers in both parties for sexual misconduct.”

“Speculation about this theoretical megastory is spreading like wildfire across Congress and beyond, a lurking bad-press boogeyman that’s always described as on the verge of going public. And it’s far from the only worry that’s seeped into the collective psyche of Capitol Hill, where members and aides are now perpetually bracing for the next allegation to drop.”

Expect a YUGE fight on this. The BIG reason the GOP loves convict disenfranchisement is that it makes gerrymandering MUCH easier. The convicts count in the census for reapportionment, they inflate some rural counties minority count, but don’t get to vote. That makes “district packing” even more evil.

There have been a lot of street petitioners here in my town for the past year or so. Outside groceries and shops. I have signed them several times. Hopefully this one catches on. One of my biggest gripes with taking away the right to vote is, please bear with me. A person committed a crime, was caught and tried. The person served time. Supposedly, the old school thinking was, you did the crime, you do the time and pay back your debt to society, and become a “free” person again. In other words “atoned for your sins” , debt settled. That’s the way it used to be taught, with exceptions for certain classes of people now obviously. If one has “paid their debt to society”, why should they not have all their rights restored ? It doesn’t make sense as to why not. Yes, there are hardened criminals who will continue a life of crime, but until proven unworthy again, their full rights should be restored, as should anyone after they served their time repaying that societal debt.

      • SoCalGal20

When you you look at why so many people are incarcerated it’s all part and parcel of the GOP strategy since about Reagan’s time (and, yes, Clinton played into it with the big crime bill). Jail minorities for disprortionate sentences and crimes then take away their vote even after they’ve served their time and gotten out. And you’ve just disenfranchised millions of people.

This is from an older article May 2016

He stands in support of LGBT rights. Though he sometimes publicly throws around pejorative terms like queer, Duterte has also firmly condemned discrimination against the LGBT community in the Philippines. He has said that as President, he would consider legalizing same-sex marriage and supports allowing LGBT people to serve in the military. In an appearance on a Philippine talk show last summer, he said that he’d have no issue with his son if he came out as gay, and said that “everyone deserves to be happy.”

      I reject this glib pessimism.

      • Silver Badger

Even so, there is a lot of truth In what Mr. Twertzog is saying.

        • 1/3? Would sit around and watch as another 1/3 murdered another 1/3? Nah! Where would they dump the bodies of 110 million people 🙂 ?

Life saving medical treatment is already being denied the poor. Basic medical treatment is unavailable to children depending on CHIP. We are a small step away from HIV+ people not being able to afford medication. The 32% that still support trump would have us in death camps. Fear will be a strong deterrent to many who would support our battle for basic human rights. Do not underestimate the enemy.

Please see my reply to Natty Enquirer above.

      • I agree with you Natty. I think more of the USA than this implies. I have hope. Heck, the arch conservative state of Alabama elected a mainline DEMOCRAT to the U.S. Senate this week. Abraham Lincoln, JFK and RFK, and Martin Luther King – and those school children in Birmingham who Doug Jones won justice for did not give their lives for us to throw in the towel and accept statements like this.

      • JCF

I agree w/ you—but I also think it’s important to “study history”, as the Tweeter referred. It’s not this bad yet…but it CAN happen.

      • billbear1961

What is glib is your dismissal of this warning, a warning it is the height of FOLLY to ignore.

Look at how the goddamned media normalized Trump and how they’ve been trying to normalize fascism.

Do not underestimate the capacity for ruthless EVIL in this country, nor the stupidity and apathy of MILLIONS. How many have been paying serious attention to the vile behaviour of ICE?! What, it doesn’t matter because it’s aimed at undocumented immigrants, inducing CHILDREN?!

There is NO reason to believe what happened in Germany couldn’t happen HERE!

Have people forgotten Arpaio’s fucking concentration camps, where inmates suffered in appalling oven-like heat, where some were beaten and DIED from those beatings, including a man in a wheelchair whose crime was to ask for a catheter, where the guards responsible LAUGHED when another guard–a woman–told them to stop, NAZI guards who were never held accountable but have since been PROMOTED?!

Torture has become ROUTINE in many American prisons, where a prisoner can be tasered or gassed for talking back or for simply refusing to be quiet when ill (one in Florida was found dead, his body positioned at the bottom of the bars to his cell where he’d been gasping for air with his mouth–he’d been gassed, pepper-sprayed or some such, to the point where he suffocated. His crime? The man was ill and wouldn’t stop crying for help. Guards in another prison took bets on how often a prisoner would be raped and did NOTHING to help him despite his frequent screams for help. They LAUGHED). A prisoner died of THIRST in one of Sheriff Clarke’s jails when he was denied WATER for a WEEK! And let’s not forget about cops shooting down unarmed people of colour–even KIDS–all over this country!

And this was BEFORE fascists began to receive encouragement from that MONSTER in the Oval Office!

You dismiss this warning at your PERIL!!

If nothing else, since prisoners are used in many states for gerrymandering purposes etc. only fair they get to vote.

      • JCF

        THIS.

You know how Drumpf won Pennsylvania? Because rural counties like Huntingdon (where I used to live, and w/ TWO state prisons!) have a disproportionate electoral representation (at the same time that the inmates are *deducted* from the electoral districts of Philly and Pittsburgh, where they mostly come from).

That, too. This is not a story that takes well to a musical score (particularly one that’s this uninspired…and the kids can’t sing worth shit). Plus we should never see the narrator; it’s a temporal break that makes me disbelieve that I’m looking at a moment that’s happening now.

We have a new voice remote as Comcast “gifted” us one via UPS earlier this week. Moments ago as I was resting peacefully in the garden tub, I heard the grouse spouse trying to convince it to show him “football.” There were repeated requests, but it must have worked because I now hear some announcer pontificating about Jason Whitten. Democrats are freaking out in my resistance group saying that because Jones isn’t ready to support impeachment for Baby Huey that he’ll vote with republicans and can’t be trusted.

A knee jerk reaction to the fact that we tried to impeach him very recently and that initiave failed. Even if all Democrats were on board, it would have failed on party lines anyways because Democrats do not have the majority, and republicans will never leave him because they needed support from his base to win their election and re-election campaign to begin with.

Until they control all chambers is when they can start impeachment. It’s that simple, and screaming impeachment all day long will not be enough to win in competitive districts that will demand brining up the issues in order to have a chance to vote for a democrat over a republican who will side with baby huey.

    • Lazycrockett

Unless the republicans start leaving the party and cross over in 2018 impeachment is off the table. Its almost impossible for the dems alone to retake the house and senate. We may be able to force him to resign, but as long as Ryan and McConnell are leaders of Congress nothing is gonna change.

      • Blake J Butler

They are going on this emotional rollercoaster with their theatrics all the time this time was one that was so asinine.

The map is hard to beat, even with a wave, gerrymandering comes into play, even the fact that democrats in the base want impeachment it isn’t enough if you are not talking about the issues, which Jones is correct. I’m sure he would vote for impeachment if the situation came.

Its beyond reality that anything can be done now because republicans have control of both chambers and will not do anything about him unless the base rejects him which will never happen.

Because they just supported publicly and financially a child molester, they don’t give a shit about sexual assault unless it involves impeaching Dems.

    • people seem to forget that for almost two years during the obama administration, they did control all three chambers. a lot of stuff… didn’t happen. i get tired of being told to spend money, sweat and time to elect democrats who don’t really want to do anything. i know, i know, it’s all my fault that the traitor is president, the almighty left once again ruined it for everyone, blah blah.

but facts and history are just that. given that mystical trifecta, the dems… sat on it. so let’s not pretend like electoral perfection means something. no, the problems we suffer from are more serious and deep than something that can be corrected by voting.

I look at it this way: flipping the Senate, for example, would stem some of the ridiculous lifetime federal judiciary appointments Trump (or more likely Pence, big donors, etc.) is making. It’s the courts. That’s why the evangelicals held their noses and voted for Trump.

          • Reality.Bites

I read on Deadline that there is – surprise – a bot war going on at Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaking for myself, life and the prequels took me out of Star Wars in a way I’ve not left Star Trek behind, so I don’t have much invested in Star Wars anymore. I hope it does well, but won’t be upset if it doesn’t. And Carrie Fisher’s death followed by her mother’s makes me really iffy about seeing it, especially in a theatre.

I have noticed in Star Trek fandom that there are a lot of older fans displeased by both the films and Star Trek: Discovery. But realistically, The Next Generation was a generation ago. Narrative styles change, tastes change and audiences change.

We’re not the audience Disney cares about with Star Wars. Ditto with any other studio (there *are* still other studios, right?) and the franchises it’s trying to build.

As long as they stay off my lawn and let me get away with it, those darn kids can remake pop culture any way they want.

Because they’re going to do it anyway.

    • Tread

Personally, I loved it. I thought it took the conventions of what were accepted as the Jedi and turned them on their head. I think most fan boys are mad because the story is handing over the reins to strong women heroes. They complain about plot holes, but the first trilogy had plot holes you could drive semi trucks through.

      • Lazycrockett

As pointed out by some commenters in articles in regards to the Alabama election, NO fucking media would cut any minority group slack if they rallied around a child predator like the white fundajelicals did around Moore especially the kind of motherfucking predator that the local high schools and mall shops know to keep an eye out for.

      • Blake J Butler

I completely agree. They are not worthy of being understood. They have chosen to be racist and xenophobic. They have chosen not to be educated. They have chosen not to retrain themselves. It boils down to one very changeable trait: attitude.

But, the racists who got behind Trump were duped, no thanks in large part to their consumed hatred of others. The media should report on THAT, and shame them in the news and talk shows at every conceivable opportunity.

    • Treant

It’s no huge damage; I have a mouth full of silver and repaired teeth (screw you, genetics).

If you have any discomfort, let the dentist know immediately. Modern dentistry is entirely painless except for the initial numbing injection, and that should be no big deal either.

This is, again, from the fellow with the mouth full of metal, and who’s on his fourth root canal.

      • JCF

        {{{Treant}}}

I experienced traumatic emotional abuse by a dentist when I was very young, and have been a big wuss about it ever since.

        • Treant

          That’s entirely understandable.

However, seriously, if you feel the dentist is abusing you, or simply isn’t responsive enough to you if you’re in pain, start making demands. Lots of demands. Being reported to the ADA is not exactly any dentists’ idea of of a good time.

And tell the dentist that you’re really nervous due to problems as a child. None of them are unfamiliar with dentistry fear, they see it every day. Any good dentist can talk you down, slow down, and start explaining what’s going on step by step.

(I did the same when I had my second EGD; the first doctor was ghastly and I woke up during the procedure. This one vowed that I will not do that and I was free to hit him afterward if I did. I didn’t, of course, and it was a painless experience).

Dentistry, as I’ve been told by pretty much every dentist I ever visited, should be painless. Even boring, which is why my current one has televisions in the rooms. 🙂 My endodontist, who does the root canals, simply talks up a blue streak while taking care of your tooth–and that is also painless, just boring.

        Yeah pretty much.
I am personally under the belief that Trump himself will never be charged with an actual crime. But he has a lot more to worry about than just that. I’m guessing a handful of indictments of very close staff and family members. And if Democrats take 2018 there will be impeachment hearings.

        • Treant

I’m of the opinion that Trump and most of his family will get off with no charges, or at least no convictions. Staff…they’re going down.
