Trump Administration Bans CDC From Using Certain Words: Transgender, Diversity, Fetus, Science-Based

The Washington Post reports:

The Trump administration is prohibiting officials at the nation’s top public health agency from using a list of seven words or phrases — including “fetus” and “transgender” — in any official documents being prepared for next year’s budget.

Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

In some instances, the analysts were given alternative phrases. Instead of “science-based” or “evidence-based,” the suggested phrase is “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes,” the person said. In other cases, no replacement words were immediately offered.

The question of how to address such issues as sexual orientation, gender identity and abortion rights — all of which received significant visibility under the Obama administration — has surfaced repeatedly in federal agencies since President Trump took office.

This nation has gone MAD.

There’s a grim satisfaction to being able to tell the ‘go along to get along’ and ‘don’t hurry things’ people my exact opinion of how their refusal to nominate judges put us in this jeopardy. You only get to do that when you have several decades of loyal service to the party and are known to always, always support the candidate whom the Party has chosen, regardless of personal desires.

FYI-you are entitled to your own opinion, you are NOT entitled to your own facts.

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

FACT – Obama refused to compromise in any way with a Republican controlled Congress.

FACT – Obama decided to use his “pen and phone” to promulgate regulations and Executive Orders to advance his agenda and bypass Congress.

FACT – These regulations and Executive Orders are easily overturned by any subsequent administration.

FACT – This was not going to be a problem as HRH Saint Hillary was considered a shoe in for the presidency and was not likely to change the status quo established by Obama after she won the 2016 presidential election.

FACT – HRH Saint Hillary screwed the pooch in the 2016 presidential election and actually lost to Donald J. Trump.

FACT – Donald J. Trump is now easily dismantling anything that Barack Obama accomplished in his tenure as president because he didn’t go about it the proper way.

FACT – We are all suffering due to Barack Obama’s refusal to even consider compromise with Congress.

          • emjayay

In real life Obama came in talking about being bipartisan and working together etc. etc. Mitch McConnell assembled the Republicans in Congress and they all agreed to do everything possible to make Obama a one term president.

Fact! Obama had 100s of meetings with republicans over ACA. They introduced a multitude of amendments.

Hillary won by 3 million votes. Despite Russian interference, Berber bros fucking things up, and even the fbi leaking pointless emails

            Are you a troll?

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

FACT – Whether or not Obama had “100s of meetings with Republicans over ACA” is beside the point as the Republicans didn’t control Congress at the time. The PPACA was purely the invention of the democrats and Herr Gruber. In any case, it might be the only time that Obama ever negotiated with Congress for anything

FACT – There is no such thing as a fucking “national popular vote” when it comes to the election of the president. And there hasn’t been since the fucking adoption of the current Constitution of the United States. So those “3 million votes” meant absolutely nothing in the greater election scheme. There was no Russian interference with the presidential election, nor did the Bernie Bros have anything to do with it and Hillary’s loss had nothing to do with “leaked” FBI emails. Those are simply excuses created by butthurt liberals to explain away Hillary’s loss to Donald J. Trump and have no basis in reality.

“FACT – Obama refused to compromise in any way with a Republican controlled Congress.”

Your first statement reveals that you’re misinformed, delusional, or both. It’s well known that the Republicans wanted to make Obama a one-term president and resist everything he did:

“Here’s John Boehner, the likely speaker if Republicans take the House, offering his plans for Obama’s agenda: “We’re going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell summed up his plan to National Journal: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.””

            https://www.politico.com/story/2010/10/the-gops-no-compromise-pledge-044311

Right off the bat you rewrite history and then you expect to be taken seriously on anything else?

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

So? McConnell had a fucking stupid plan. Which didn’t work. Correct me if I’m wrong but Obama did enjoy a two term presidency did he not?

And what fucking McConnell said didn’t preclude Obama from at least attempting to negotiate with Congressional members. But he didn’t do that. He simply got out his pen and phone and bypassed Congress altogether in a hissy fit. And now we’re all suffering for that decision as Trump repeals everything that Obama accomplished.

          • Clive Johnson

“Correct me if I’m wrong but Obama did enjoy a two term presidency did he not?” This is irrelevant. Next.

“And what fucking McConnell said didn’t preclude Obama from at least attempting to negotiate with Congressional members.”

First, you ignore where the primary blame should be placed. Next we’re to believe that you’ve analyzed the entirety of the Obama administration and have concluded on this basis that “He didn’t do that.” I simply don’t take you seriously on this. No one should. You obviously have an axe to grind.

Then you ignore the stark reality that Republicans were flat out opposed to any progressive reform, thus obviating the need for much effort.

“And now we’re all suffering for that decision as Trump repeals everything that Obama accomplished.”

Lastly, you seem to imply that Trump was elected or that his behavior can be explained on the basis of some of Obama’s actions, oblivious to the multiplicity of agendas or reasons that Trump/his administration might be motivated by. And, it should go without saying that it’s Trump, not Obama, whose unraveling Obama’s efforts. (Furthermore, didn’t you in another comment question whether Obama had accomplished anything? And yet here you’re arguing that he did, only to have Trump undo it.)

            Go home. You can’t reason.

            So what’s your point exactly?

          • Adam Schmidt

What fucking compromise!?! They openly stated from the beginning of his first term that they existed to stop his agenda and to vote against anything he wanted. It really didn’t matter what he proposed, he couldn’t get them to go for it. Heck, he put forth the Republican plan for health care and they voted against it. What fantasy world are you living in?!

          • Priya Lynn

You’re stupid. The Repulbican congress wasn’t going to allow Obama to pass anything.

          • fuow

Actually, the ‘fascist’ comments are valid in the light of Eurofascism of the mid 20th century.
As to President Obama’s failures, yes, there is some validity in criticizing him for trying too long to work with the rethugs and for not keeping the DNC focussed on the 50 state project.
As to the ‘pen and phone’, because far too many of us gay men and other liberals failed to come out and vote in 2010 and 2014, President Obama had no other choice on many, many matters.
So, what are you doing to help end this reign of terror?

Going full on racist now – will you call him ‘clean and well spoken’ next>?

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Is that all you’ve got? Accusations of racism? My comment has nothing to do with the race of Barack Obama. Obama was lazy and took the easy way out with regards to his agenda and used regulations and EOs to accomplish the same. And we’re paying the price for that ill conceived decision right now as Trump dismantles any and all of Obama’s accomplishments the last eight years.

          • Grumpy Old Man

He is now going for ‘black’ issues – soon he might reference ‘well spoken’ and ‘clean’.

      • Romero

        Shut the fuck up!

        • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

LoL. That’s the best you can do? Well no, I won’t shut the fuck up. I’ll continue to point out how Obama fucked it up. And his refusal to work with Congress and pass laws advancing his agenda was the biggest fuck up he ever accomplished.

          • FAEN

You continue to point out ‘facts’ like Cluster Fox does. Say it enough times and it becomes ‘real’.

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Yeah, just like the lunatic lipstick liberals always attempt to rewrite history when it suits their purposes.

          • FAEN

And now you’ve finally shown your hand. You’ve really stopped to a new low Purdue. This is sad and pathetic. I’m embarrassed for you.

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Sorry, don’t blame “Perdue” as I’m not associated with him in any way. Not that you’ll believe that.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

            Win!

      • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

YEAH, right. He also should have banned poverty and racism while he was at it. This catastrophe is not of his making. The blame falls on assholes like McConnell who crowed about making sure he was a one-term president.

      • TuuxKabin

        Sod off.

        • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

LoL. That’s the best you can do? Nope. Won’t “sod off”. I’ll keep point out Obama’s failures. And we are now seeing the consequences of Obama’s biggest failure. His inability to reign in his ego and compromise with Congress. And now we’re all suffering for it.

          • FAEN

Again, you seem to be disconnected from reality.

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Again, that’s the best you can do? Explain to me how I’m “disconnected from reality” exactly. Thanks.

          • FAEN

I would think that’s self explanatory. Your ‘facts’ are not connected to actual facts aka reality.

PS-You still haven’t answered my question. Definitely a Purdue move. Sad.

          • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

FAEN, There’s no rational discussion possible with someone whose arguments have no facts to back them up, and who boast an unwillingness to even concede that others who see things differently aren’t beneath contempt. That’s an Ish move.

Yeah, Benny boy, you’ve wasted several precious minutes of my weekend trying to figure out what the fuck your point is. And since what you think is irrelevant to me, I’m out of here and off to engage myself in something that distracts me from wasting time on people like you.

          • FAEN

            You are completely correct.

          • Adam Schmidt

You keep saying that, as if it’ll make it true just because you said it a lot. But how about citing sources for your bullshit? I’ll start. The following article has a long list of specific instances that President Obama tried to reach across the aisle and work with Republicans despite their bad faith efforts.

            http://www.themodestproposal.com/?p=151

Now put up sources for your statements or give up and go home. I don’t think you will though because you’re strictly a troll, your Disqus profile shows it, and I’m beginning to think you’re a paid troll.

      • FAEN

And how do you work with a political party who won’t compromise? That is the only reason Obama did use Executive Orders-because the GOTP REFUSED to compromise on ANYTHING.

        • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Bullshite. Obama used EOs simply because he didn’t want to face the fact that he would have to actually compromise his agenda to get anything passed by Congress.

And now we’re all suffering for it as Trump dismantles the Obama era agenda.

          • FAEN

Are you saying the GOP were willing to compromise with Obama and the Dems?

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Despite all the rhetoric, they might have actually compromised to get some of their agenda accomplished. But then we’ll never know as Obama didn’t try and negotiate with Congress but went off in a snit because Congress wouldn’t bow to his demands and did his thing with his “pen and phone”. And now we’re all suffering for that.

          • FAEN

Except for all the times he tried to.

          • FAEN

You also didn’t answer my previous question-how do you compromise with a party that doesn’t want to compromise?

Is this Bill Purdue in another form?

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

You also didn’t answer my previous question-how do you compromise with a party that doesn’t want to compromise?

You call the leadership in for a meeting and say, “Look, I’m willing to give you A,B and C if you will consider giving me X, Y and Z”. And wait for their response, And if it’s positive you have compromised and made a deal. If the response is negative you get them together and ask them what they want exactly. And you consider their response and make a reply to the leadership. And around it goes until you come to common ground and an agreement. That’s what Obama didn’t do.

          • FAEN

            Again-you are divorced from reality.

Obama was more than willing to compromise but no matter what he gave the GOP they weren’t interested. Their only goal was to block whatever he was for, even if they were for it too so they could preven him from the ‘win’.

So again-for the fifth time I believe-how do you compromise with a party that doesn’t want to.

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

Is this Bill Purdue in another form?

I don’t know who this “Bill Perdue” is and I’m certainly not him in “another form”. Care to elucidate?

          • FAEN

            Sure you don’t.

John Boehner on Obama’s agenda: “We’re going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

So what compromise are you referring to, Troll?

          • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

So what compromise are you referring to, Troll?

Talking about the “compromise” that Obama didn’t even try to accomplish despite the Republican rhetoric. It might have been pointless but at least he could have tried, asshole.

      • Adam Schmidt

Considering he had a Republican Congress including a Senate that wouldn’t even review a Supreme Court nomination for over 300 days, that’s a totally bullshit argument. You might as well say that he should have been able to single-handedly fixed everything. Frankly, he did what was within the realm of possible.

      • Wynter Marie Starr

I’m in no mood to deal with assholes who refuse to recognize that Obama HAD to compromise to make up for his dark skin. Or have we forgotten that little fact.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

Granted, Paula, but I don’t have to read his garbage. I love the block feature and I suggest we all block him. It’s just not worth arguing with people like him.

          • FAEN

He isn’t bright enough to stir up trouble.

        • Benny Cemoli ✔ Gold Verified

And I’m in no fucking mood to deal with assholes like you who always have to bring up racism thinking that’s the be all and end all of an argument. Even when it has nothing to fucking do with the discussion at hand.

Obama didn’t compromise at all with Congress while it was under the control of Republicans. He simply took the easy way out with his pen and phone and started bypassing Congress with departmental regulations and EOs. And now we’re all suffering for that decision as Trump dismantles all of it with a simple stroke of his pen.

          Have a nice day.

Not that easy. Yes, President Obama was far too conservative and far too willing to put up with rethuglican intransigence. At the same time, though, Democrats who wanted more (like me) were being lectured and told to sit down and shut the fuck up constantly.

Me, too. Those of us who were willing to set aside our preferences and vote for Hillary did so exactly for this reason. Remember, they’ve only begun. Let them get a ‘moderate’ or the sole ‘liberal’ seat on the Supreme Court and it’s curtains for gays and transgender people in this country.

Hopefully people and media will continue to bring daylight to this travesty called tax reform because people will not be using the new tax laws until they do their 2018 taxes and that is beyond the 2018 elections. Everyone needs to do their homework and expose as much of the bill as possible before the mid term elections.
One example is corporations and businesses have a (0)Zero minimum tax rate with it. But citizens do not get this luxury.

  • BlackGayAthetist

There are certain organizations that should be off limits to the President unless they are going bring out growth and expansion such as:

    Fucking Pence and christianists!

I wonder what the consequences will be if these new rules are not followed. No money?

    • clay

It becomes the basis for dispersing money– if that’s what the budget request says, that’s where the money has to go. They’re talking about clawing-back existing research and community service grants, not just who will get funding in the future.

    • DonnaLee

This is the Pence behind the curtain. Trump wouldn’t know what the CDC was.

  • Tomcat

So if the CDC want to warn of something damaging to a persons FETUS, they have to say it will damage your UNBORN entity.

      Sorta –

Fetus is a prenatal human between embryonic and birth.
Child is a human being between birth and puberty.

It’s the right wingers pushing for ‘fetus’ to be declared as a human being with full constitutional rights, etc.

    • clay

Pence prefers the term “pre-born” to include embryos and even just the twinkle in your eye, that way they can undercut research and community service for contaception, too.

Fortunately, the English language is a flexible thing, and scientists tend to be a creative bunch. Unlike Trump and his more idiotic minions, I’m sure they know what a thesaurus is, and how to use it. Still, this latest decree by Trump’s language police makes him look remarkably stupid. But we already knew that.

Also, Trump could care less about what someone calls a fetus, or a transgendered person, or whether or not something is “science-based.” This sounds like Pence, or one of the more crazed Christianists in his circle, whom Trump has placed in an office far beyond his capacity.

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

I know they can write around it but they shouldn’t have to.

  • Mike

The CDC has a history of focking up its public health messages going back to the onset of the AIDS epidemic, when forbidden words like gay, semen, and anal were self-censored and replaced with nebulous weasel words, leaving people to guess exactly what terms like “sex” and “bodily fluids” meant and didn’t mean.

Unless the CDC defies this outrageous order immediately, issuing a statement that includes as many forbidden words as possible, consider them lost. You’d have to be crazy to trust a science organization whose priority is promoting right wing extremism.

    • fuow

Unfortunately, the CDC has a long history of doing everything in their power to hurt gay men. Things got better under President Obama (remember him? The one who could actually think and write English? Yeah, seems like one-hundred years ago to me, too, now.)

Here’s my thoughts on the next 7 disallowed words
    gay
    lesbian

    consent
    molestation
    AIDS

I doubt that Trump is the brains behind most of the extreme right nominations, pronouncements and positions taken by his administration. He is too busy golfing, worrying about the Muller investigation, watching TV, kissing up to Putin and engaging in endless Twitter wars. Who are the extremists behind the Trump Administration’s agenda? Is Pence the leader?

Trump Bans the Words “Indictment” and “Russia” from FBI.

  • Wynter Marie Starr

Great idea. I think we should also ban negative words while referring to trump or any member of the GIP. Lets go fascist all the way/s

If he’s going to crap on the Constitution, he’s going to find himself up a river of shit without a paddle. These fuckers don’t get that not everyone in this country is a dumbass.

  • Paula

I want bumper stickers with this on it.
    Science > god
    or
    Science > Trump

The righties would have a meltdown.

      How about:

      SCIENCE trumps faith-based ignorance

  • Health care in the US is not for everybody, it is not a human right there. It is for the privileged.

Having said that there are two types of health care 1) for everybody (who can afford it) and 2) faith based. Within faith based you will struggle to find information on adoption, LGBT, science etc. There are health content providers (who I’ve dealt with) who create these subsets of information. This information is used to triage patients in hospitals, doctors offices and via telehealth. So, if you search through the data set for ALL you should find most things there. If you search through the faith based data set you will see what religious organizations want you to see. So, the faith based health care organizations have an influence on the main data set, so they can ask for, say, non-binary orientation to be removed and that will likely effect what others see.

Now, lets say you are working at Kaiser and triaging a patient with that information, you are not giving patients what they might need to know but what faith based care has had an influence over. This is extremely dangerous.

So, from the CDC perspective in this case, banning words means that it will have a domino effect through all of health care right through to the patients who won’t be able to make good choices about their treatment or care.

With regard to the GOP tax scam 13 million people will no longer be able to afford health coverage. So, what do people do when they cannot see their doctor? They triage their own symptoms through online triage systems and information (like WebMD). What if that information has been cut down to show what the GOP want you to see, a more faith based subset of data. Its beyond frightening.

CDC could just say Takei instead:

  • David Gervais

For evidence based and science based, they could say reality based.

    • Gianni

That will be the day that Donnie acknowledges that – reality? “What’s that?” he’ll ask.

  • rednekokie

In other words, no mention of any term regarding health will now be allowed at the nation’s health agency. Makes perfect sense.

  • ColdCountry

“If we don’t call it by its name, it will cease to exist!” Right. Ever heard of a thesaurus?

“Instead of “science-based” or “evidence-based,” the suggested phrase is
“CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with
    community standards and wishes,”
How about just, “CDC bases its recommendations on science, and research, not on public opinion.”

  • Gianni

I keep wondering: Does Donnie latch on to these issues all by himself? That would mean he’s reading official documents from these agencies. I find that difficult to believe. Or, is it that the children in the administration dig around to come up with anything that personally annoys them and, through whatever means, get their complaint and reasoning into Donnie’s ear at just the right moment to convince him that he must do something about it? Perhaps, Donnie is responding to whatever nonsensical annoyances his evangelical partners complain about and does what he can to make it right for them no matter how dictatorial, ludicrous, and out of touch with reality it shows he is. We are living in a wonderland swirling with idiocy being spread by the top idiot.

  • tomfromthenews

Science doesn’t care what “community standards and wishes” are. They are just facts and science.

  • Franciscan

God! So the next logical thing is for the White House to announce the Dept. of “Justice”. is investigating who leaked this information (or for such an investigation to go on unannounced behind closed doors). Then there will be loyalty oaths required of new hires. Then there will be people fired who will then form a CDC in Exile. Meanwhile Pence will partner with Putin to have the gulags reopened so that resistant senior staff can undergo a thorough re-education.

    “This nation has gone MAD.”

NO!!! Only the Drumpf Regime: a MINORITY government (and when the Truth comes out, not that different from the apartheid MINORITY government).

Do NOT let them make think they in ANY way represent the “nation”. WE are the majority. WE will refuse to accept ANY outcome that the doesn’t expose Drumpf’s TREASON. WE WILL KICK DRUMPF OUT!!! [along w/ the Rethuglican DrumpfenKorp traitors!]
