Trump Wants Wacko Maine Gov To Run For Senate

The Washington Post reports:

President Trump is pushing Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) to run for the U.S. Senate, according to White House advisers. Trump has told advisers that he plans to call LePage, who endorsed him in February 2016, and ask him to jump in against Sen. Angus King in 2018 and offer his endorsement. King is an independent who often caucuses with the Democrats.

LePage’s approval rating in Maine is at 42 percent, according to Morning Consult, ranking him the nation’s seventh-least popular governor. He has caught flak in Maine for controversial statements about minorities, threatening comments to a lawmaker in a voice-mail message and an assertion that he makes up stories to fool the political press, whom he castigates in personal terms.

If Trump likes him, I’m thinking someone should start checking:
      a) how LePage is connected to Russia
      b) if he’s a potential pedophile
      c) whether he’s laundering money
      d) if he should register as a foreign agent

      • Chucktech

He strikes me as too crazy to do any of that without an extensive support system to facilitate it. H hasn’t got anything like that.

Of course, he could very well be a pedo, all on his own.

      • sfmike64

LePage is just a garden variety small town wacko. He probably can’t find Russia on a map. He only got elected twice because the vote was split three ways.

    • Cattleya1

Do the same rules apply? Can this crazy dipshit get himself into office by winning a plurality among 3 candidates? Maybe it is time for Maine to fix their fucked up election system.

      • Kruhn

Maine now does ranked voting which would end that. You have rank candidates from the one you like best to the one you like least. If no candidate gets a majority, the one who gets the least votes is eliminated, and the second choice is counted. So on, so forth until someone gets a majority.

        • Cattleya1

I prefer the CA system where the top 2 vote getters in the primary face off in the general election.

  • Boreal

King, also a former gov of Maine and quite popular with Mainers, will not lose to Pepe Lepew.

  • honestly? the more i read about stuff like this the tighter my Foil chapeau gets. srsly. 42% of Maine voters approve? i just can’t believe that.

this old white loser does not represent the majority, or even a large percentage of Maine. i am certain of that. i have always been jealous of people who live in Maine. it’s so beautiful. it’s underpopulated. it has a rich, rich history of liberalism and progressive politics. but suddenly, like MI and WI, it just “went republican.” horseshit.

1/3 of this country’s white people are insane. i get that. that’s a fact i know, via lots of different sources. but all these formerly “blue” states electing thug after thug at high level? i am the very first person to bitch about the dems many failures as a party. but this is all happening too fast to be believable.

ffs. look at this guy. would you vote for that? really. there are many reasons why we should ask questions about elections right now. let’s start doing so, in a serious way. i just watched a documentary about how hard it is to actually tabulate “uncounted” votes (mail ins, paper ballots, etc) and i was sick. democracy itself is at stake and Democrats cannot concern themselves with these problems.

    • AC

He has been elected governor TWICE, which makes me wonder what possibly leads one to think: “this old white loser does not represent the majority, or even a large percentage of Maine. i am certain of that.” Get a grip. And maybe consider being less bitchy to your own party (since the evidence is that the enemy is actually quite strong).

      • hi, newbie! are you russian?

for those of you paying attention, our electoral system has been compromised since 2000, and possibly before that. also too. “get a grip and be less bitchy.”

do you have any Facts to add to this discussion, or are you just another russian trying to make people like me look bad on the interwebs?

The front page article in the Bangor Daily News today was an article about how Maine students are the most likely in the nation to NEVER encounter somebody of a different race.

Facts, dyke, facts, not conjecture, or your opinion based on your own lack of willingness to be bothered to educate yourself. Facts. Try it sometime.

          • swimboy

Did your momma drink wood alcohol while she was pregnant with you? Thirty seconds on Wikipedia would tell you that LePage got 37% of the votes in the 2010 election and 48% of the votes in the 2014 election. So, yes, you *very* stupid twat, we do sometimes elect people based on a plurality.

Now, why don’t you go back to the Daily Stormer, where your IQ will at least be average amongst your peers, and only a *plurality* of the audience will laugh at you, instead of the *majority* here.

          • AC

or, rather, is it that we ALWAYS elect people based on a totality. My original point (to which Leastyebejudged appears to be joining) is that Maine has spoken, twice. Not voting is a choice.

This past weekend I watched a Youtube critique vid by a couple of atheist guys I follow. It was of the movie Torchbearer, which Bannon produced and co-wrote. Stars Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty “fame”.

Have to admit it was a somewhat skillfully made bit of far far far right religious propaganda. The entire film was dedicated to how “white” euro-centric “civilization” is bound to christianity. The liberties it takes with ancient history, to prove it’s point, are gob smacking. For instance he cites the ancient Greeks as providing early proof of god, while completely ignoring their polytheism.

It was a disturbing watch that’s for sure but it was worth it cuz I think it fleshed out just how twisted Bannon is. Flat out white christian nationalism, that’s Bannonism. Any views outside of their proscriptions as granted by god brand you as the enemy interloper.

        If interested.

You know, I’ve been thinking long and hard on this and even asked Esteban about it so, if you would indulge me for a moment of venting:

How is it that a nation that so despised a King and authoritarian rule, so much so that it literally had a revolution to get away from him, now seems poised to not only allow another authoritarian to rule them, but do so without nary a musket ball fired?

Sorry, but for a country that kicked ass when a King raised taxes on tea, I find myself at a loss as to how the current wannabee Emperor & his court have not, as of yet, been dragged out onto the Washington Mall, trotted up the gallows and dealt with?

Seriously, what is it going to take?

I know, please forgive my fantasy fueled frustration, but in all honesty it does rather chafe to watch him and his acolytes continue unabated…even with all Mueller’s doing, it seems all for naught.

    • Twasn’t just tea, but the corporation that controlled the monopoly on tea. The East India Company was the force behind the tax, not the King. ie: It’s worse than mere desire for authoritarian rule, it’s embrasure of corporate rule coupled to worship of the super rich (sublimated greed) that’s driving this mess.

    • 2guysnamedjoe

The Declaration of Independence addressed the king, enumerating the colonists’ grievances against Parliament. Which could also explain our relatively powerful executive branch.

    • Cipher

An excellent historical perspective. If I may suggest an additional consideration. Whenever considering the evolution of America, throw race in as a factor. The USA of 2017 is far more a reflection of the wake of the Civil War and its aftermath than it is of the nation that threw off colonial rule.

Successive executive administrations following Nixon’s low point have expanded executive authority. The office was finally held by a “black” president and now the desire to wipe away the Obama legacy blinds a significant number of Americans to embrace authoritarian rule. Just one person’s opinion, but this is how I see the USA unfolding.

The state sucks up a lot more than it contributes in tax $$$ too, so let them keep hurting themselves, hopefully this winter will take a good chunk of the old people there voting for LePage over and over.

  • Joseph Miceli

Hah! It’s like Cheeto Jesus just called John the Baptist to run for Senate.

    • coram nobis

More like Caligula just appointed his horse to the Senate.

  • Raising_Rlyeh

And knowing the people of Maine there will be more than one liberal candidate which would split the vote and allow him to be elected. Just like his gubernatorial elections.

Slightly OT: Donald was looking at embassy sites in Jerusalem during the transition, including a hotel. Dec. 12, 2016 story.

Could he have real estate interests in Jerusalem that might explain moving the embassy there?

      • coram nobis

Could be. Let’s just hope he doesn’t try building something in the Old City, which is East Jerusalem and maybe would involve bulldozing some old neighborhood.

        • 2guysnamedjoe

Hey, come on. Historic preservation, archaeology, and community involvement take time and cost money. They’re just impediments to golf courses and hotels. Besides, his neonazi fans would call him a cuck were he to engage in any of those activities.

Now Opening: The Trump Al Aqsa Hotel, Casino, US Embassy and Bar & Grill.

  • DesertSun59

At the rate the US is devolving into a non-viable nation, LePage will win.

    • leastyebejudged

At this rate he’ll be the next President.

Kakistocracy should have been the word of the year.

I can’t wait for the McDonald’s PIG eating piece of SHIT to die of a fucking heart attack in its 500 pound piece of orange hair-dyed christian SHIT suit.

  • The_Wretched

    Sounds like President Bannons suggestion.

  • “. . .he makes up stories to fool the political press, whom he castigates in personal terms.”
