Roy Moore Campaign Demands Stop To “Mall” Ad

The Birmingham News reports:

Roy Moore’s campaign calls an ad run by a political action committee opposing him “patently false” and issued cease and desist letters demanding that TV stations stop running it.

The PAC, called Highway 31, was formed to support the candidacy of Moore’s opponent, Doug Jones. The ad says, “Moore was actually banned from the Gadsden Mall … for soliciting sex from young girls.”

The Moore campaign has previously disputed allegations against him, including reports that Moore was banned from the mall. The Moore campaign says the statement in the Highway 31 ad about “soliciting sex” is a new false allegation.

I can’t find this ad anywhere, so maybe it’s been taken down already.

  • Lazycrockett

    Right out of Drumpf’s playbook.

  • Pollos Hermanos

Well if we can’t find the ad, we’ll just keep repeating the charges.

Roy Moore was actually banned from the Gadsden Mall for soliciting sex from young girls

  • jerry

Yeah, we’ll get right on that…say, next Wed. we’ll have them down for sure.

Has he demanded that the mall put up a replica of the Ten Commandments in the food court?

    • gaycuckhubby

No. But they can only serve fish and loaves

    • MT YVR

I’m beginning to think they believe the Ten Commandments. Are a shopping list and a How To.

    • 2guysnamedjoe

No, but Alabama churches have to display fast food menus.

  • JCF

We’ll take down the ad, when you fess up re the girls, Pedo.

Dubious accusations against Al Franken are nowhere near equivalent to all the evidence that Roy Moore is a child molester.

    • Reasonoverhate

Dems eat their own while Rethugs rally around the candidate, no matter what he has done. The Dem senators calling on Franken to resign should have said, “Franken will resign as soon a tRump does!”

    • safari

“I was wrong. I don’t ask you to forgive or forget my past actions, but I do ask that you look at the man I have become.” <– you're welcome

      • safari

It sounds trite. But — if he *is* a better person than he was, that is the progress we’re all hoping for on this issue.

    • DaddyRay

Why can’t their be other options than resigning like a Anti-Sexual Harassment Education speaking tour, sanctions, donating his time for women shelters and advertising.
Franken has for the most part owned up to some of the allegations and has been remorseful which is a hell of a lot more than others have been.

I am worried Republicans will start weaponizing this movement to take out top talent on the democratic bench.

I am also worried about ending up with a Senator Michele Bachmann which will be far worse for women in the long run.

      • MikeBx2

You are right to be worried. I am too.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

In December – a mall should be a place for little girls to meet Santa and sit on his lap to tell what presents they want the most, – not to be forced to perform lap dances for fiends like Roy Moore! Disgusting!!

  • drtrmiller

I agree there’s not enough evidence to run an ad with this language. Neither the mall in question nor local law enforcement could produce any physical record of incidents involving Moore. In fact, some testimony of residents contradicted the claims, saying that he was frequently observed in the food court eating alone at the mall. While I believe the women that came forward, I don’t think there is enough evidence to claim in an ad ad that he was banned, and especially for “soliciting sex.”

    • safari

I’m having a very hard time caring.

      • Treant

I have to admit, I’m very nearly exhausted by the levels of hypocrisy shown by both parties’ adherents, the absolutely overwhelming flood of (at least partially fake) news that nobody seems to have any interest in splitting into true/unknown/false, and the ability of Congress to ignore an entire host of problems that are right in front of their noses, starting with this alleged “president” we have.

        • safari

          We’re in a post-factual age.

The Orville episode about the fully democratic society that upvotes and downvotes people hints at how we are now. What is justice? The overall system responding to downvotes.

          • Dude, that episode really fucked with my head. The social commentary was particularly spot on. Frightening.

Ps. How do you like the show as a whole?
We like it, surprisingly, given Seth’s typical fare (which yes, we love, too).

          • gaycuckhubby

There was a Family Guy episode a couple of weeks ago that was actually good.
            It touched on similar themes

          • safari

I binged watched it over the weekend.

I like it. I was skeptical but it balances it’s like TNG but with some minor dirty humor, characters that include some of whom are self-described jerks, and yet still manages to teach a lesson like TNG episodes of old. Plus it is entertaining and often hilarious.

          • Episode 9, Cupid’s Arrow.
            Rob Lowe. Fucking hilarious!

          • safari

            *That* was Rob Lowe?

Now I like it even more.

          • gaycuckhubby

We were almost done with the episode before we recognized him. My husband and I turned to each other at the same time and said “Rob Lowe!”

          • Sho was.
            😉
            But wasn’t that episode funny?

          • Reality.Bites

Well now it makes sense everyone wanted to sleep with him.

        • But at least we’re halfway to not having to worry about crossing state lines with our guns. So there’s that…
          /s

    • gaycuckhubby

Agreed. I haven’t heard of anyone saying he solicited sex at the mall

      • safari

He waited for the parking lot for that.

      • BobSF_94117

He tried to establish relationships with young girls that would eventually lead to sex. You don’t really think he was serially falling in love with one after another, do you?

      • Lumpy Gaga

        He demanded it.;

    • Boreal

Maybe you should ask the pope, Dirtmiller

    • Mike_in_the_Tundra

      Remember swiftboat? Who needs evidence?

      • drtrmiller

It’s unfortunate that we live in a society where this kind of behavior is not only allowed, but also where the two dominant political parties are virtually indistinguishable in their use of vile tactics like broadcasting un provable, unsubstantiated rumors about their political opponents. Perhaps if there was a greater difference between the behavior of Reps and Dems, people would be more open minded about hearing from the other side.

  • JCF

Sigh. Today I’ve handed out a half dozen time-outs, and two blocks.

Most think he will lose if he doesnt quit. His support is plummeting on the ground

    • Treant

2020 is ten billion years away in electoral time units.

“If the election were held today…” has no meaning three years early.

      • gaycuckhubby

He barely won his last election. Right?
Meanwhile Amy Klobuchar won by 20+%
Dems have a better chance with someone else

        • Taylor Bixler

He barely won his first election in 2008. I think he won by 12 or 13 points last time. But he is a liability up there now for sure.

      • Reality.Bites

That also applies to people expecting the Democrats to be in campaign mode.

Going from Canadian experience where we have a somewhat more politically balanced news media (while it leans conservative on the whole, there’s no equivalent to Fox News), and having gone through a recent change of government I can say that it’s really tough for an opposition party to make news outside of an election cycle.

    • Cackalaquiano

This is a point I hadn’t considered. Get another Dem appointed, and they’re the incumbent come next election.

  • Dramphooey

While the stats are outdated, Alabama has really low internet penetration.

3,092,273 internet users as of June/10, 65.0% of the population, per IWS. 2,164,740 Facebook users on March 31/11, 45.5% penetration rate.

Only Mississippi, at 59%, had a lower percentage of its population online.

has the right wing “news” finished with the cranberry recipes?

  • gaycuckhubby

OT… wow. I’ve never seen gay porn Twitter so quiet. Stars locking their accounts and deleting tweets.
    Smh

    • Ninja0980

How come and who has been doing the locking?

      • gaycuckhubby

Yesterday a straight female performer tweeted that she withdrew from a scene because she found out her co-star also did gay porn. She said she didn’t want to take the health risks.
Her fear probably came from not being taught the facts, however we teach women that they should say no when they are uncomfortable and they shouldn’t be forced to participate in something they don’t want to
All of gay porn Twitter descended on her. Big stars telling her she should kill herself, that she would never work in the industry again, that she is homophobic and a bigot and racist. This afternoon she was found dead. Women and adult entertainers get to choose who they work with. Period. They should not be pressured into having sex with anyone no matter the reason. And the over-the-top abuse was unwarranted

        • m_lp_ql_m

Do we know the cause of death?

          • gaycuckhubby

Her husband reported a suicide. Police said no foul play but no official cause of death

        • Ninja0980

Sad to say but I think many gay stars saw homophobia and reacted to that.
But tweets made in anger are never a good thing.
Plus, if these guys are mad about homophobia, they’d be telling gay4payers who have said racist or homophobic crap to get out of their industry, not a woman who was coming out of a place of fear and ignorance.

          • gaycuckhubby

The defenive dismissive reactions are pretty gross too

          • Ninja0980

            Gross all around.
I will say this too though, the idea she could say that and not be called out on it…nope.

          • gaycuckhubby

I’ll leave it up to women to decide who they feel comfortable fucking. Either way never tell someone to take a pill and kill themselves.

          • Ninja0980

I agree with that but her statement was ignorant and she deserved to be called out on that.
Not with calls of suicide though.

          • gaycuckhubby

Yeah. Here is a 23 yr old woman who was probably never taught about PrEP or given real facts. She apologized and was still bombarded with big hitters from her industry where she lives and works. Telling her she would never work again. The claims that she was a homophobic bigot instead of misguided or not knowledgeable was probably particularly hurtfull for her.

          • Ninja0980

            I agree.
Having said that, the question of the chicken or the egg also comes up.
If one day of bad twitter makes you kill yourself, you had problems already sad to say.

Just having a client in the room doesn’t make a convo privileged. To claim it, the conversation has to be between an attorney and their client about pending litigation.

      • Elston

any communication between attorney and client is privileged. presence of third party destroys privilege. if an attorney was present, my question is, who does that attorney represent? and no, it cannot be both sr. and jr.

OT: I have so much soap, I think I went a little overboard this year. There are four 10″x20″ plastic flats piled high, with three small drawers piled full and still a little more on my drying rack to go yet (most of which already has a home, fortunately).

I don’t think that giving a dozen bars each to my neurologist and her receptionist on Monday is out of line, do you? I just…seriously…losing 24 bars will actually open up some space on the rack!

    • Sam_Handwich

send some to your JMG pals 🙂

I’m poor at the moment, post two surgeries. Shipping. 🙂

ETA: I’d also feel guilty since I’m jettisoning older soap in the mix as well. It’s either formulae I’ve moved on from, or the scents have faded. I’d feel guilty giving that out to people I talk to regularly and, no-God knows, won’t quibble about telling me I Suck.

          • Treant

Oh, I’m fine it was just those two nasal insertions. No pain, little healing, not much soreness.

But…expensive, and the insurance only covered part, of course.

          • Cuberly Deux

(sigh) Of course it isn’t completely covered. Lordy I hate our healthcare “system”. Hopefully it addresses your sinuses though. Fingers crossed.

          • Treant

Well, covered after “deductible.” If you can call $7,500 a deductible; I call it a farce. But it was that or not be able to breathe, so…

          • AJ Drew

oooh, right, the “nose job.” I did forget about that, sorry. Not to minimize, but for a minute you had us all thinking you had brain surgery. So, first, phew! And second, did it work?

          • Treant

Eh. The left is perfect. The right is better, but it looks like I’m either going to have to live with it or have the full corrective surgery.

        • AJ Drew

I had no idea, either. Well, given your level of productivity, sounds like post-op recovery has gone pretty well, good!

As for extra soap, could you donate to charity thrift stores (PTAs, Habitat) or shelters, perhaps?

          • Treant

Yep, most shelters are very happy to get it! Carl at Ali Forney never got back to me (I’d make an exception and ship there), but plenty of local shelters are thrilled, though they do tend to want guest sizes.

          • AJ Drew

If the shelters want guest sizes, could you slice the current soap, or would that be too emotionally painful? ; )

          • Treant

It would be too physically difficult, if not impossible. 🙂 Post cure, you can use a good homemade soap to pound nails (an older, well-cured Castile is famous for denting wood floors when dropped on its corner).

Best-case, you cut it with large amounts of soap stuff breaking off. Worst-case, and I’ve heard of it, it shatters. Neutral case, you simply can’t get through it, even with a red-hot knife.

          • AJ Drew

            Aha, got it.

          • Reality.Bites

Did y’all hear about that guy who broke out of prison by carving a gun to look like a bar of Castile?

You don’t suck? This flirtation is over!

          • Treant

Down below, I suck. Up above where the soap is, I try not to.

        • Elston

I think you should get dirty more often so you can get clean more often so you can use more soap…

      http://sciencekick.blogspot.com/2012/05/full-contact-chemistry.html

      • Treant

To answer his question, just ask any soap maker. It’s fictional.

All of us have spilled concentrated lye on ourselves; the typical solution being 2 parts water, 1 part lye, but some work at 1:1. Lye won’t dissolve in a stronger solution and can’t harm you if it’s in solid form. Which, as noted, it very quickly won’t be.

I wear face gear to completely shield my eyes from the stuff; it can and will blind you permanently on contact. Drinking it would be bad–in any significant amount, just call the undertaker.

On skin? Rinse it off, and you have a while to do so. It has to saponify and eat through the dead skin layer up top, the Stratum corneum, and that takes a bit.

After a couple minutes or so, depending on where it lands, you do notice intense itching and burning at the site of exposure. At that point it’s “Whoops. Gotta rinse.”

    • Reality.Bites

We are absolutely shocked that you might conceivably made a single bar beyond the most utilitarian recipes for your own use.

Seriously though, I can’t imagine anyone not taking pretty much as much soap as you’ll give them. It’s something of nearly universal value. Even if you gave a bunch to someone who uses liquid soap or needs a specialized cleanser for some reason or another, they can use it for regifting.

At the same time, by making people aware that you have a surplus that you enjoyed, you can give this gift without creating full gift exchange expectations. It’s more like you are sharing than giving. They in turn might share with you when they have an abundance of something they make or grow.

      • Treant

You’d be surprised. My sister-in-law won’t touch the stuff because “it might be GMO.”

Of course it’s fucking GMO. So is that chemically manipulated “all natural” “body wash” crap you buy. Which is synthesized from a palm oil base, which kills orangutans due to hunting them as they eat the palm nuts and “employs” slave and near-slave labor.

“Natural” has no meaning in the US and I can call my soap all natural. And if you’ve ever seen a lye tree, let me know, because that shit can be expensive. But since it’s synthesized from sodium chloride and water, I can still say it.

  • Ninja0980

O/T but as mentioned below, a straight porn actress who said she wouldn’t want to work with anyone who did gay porn out of fear she’d get AIDS etc. appears to have committed suicide earlier today.
She got major backlash for what she said and many folks are now blaming gay people for her death.
I agree that a woman has the right to state who she wants to work with but to say that the ignorant statement she made shouldn’t have gone unchallenged is also not acceptable.
Who knows why she took her life today but make no mistake, the bigots are already using this as an example of why LGBT folks are the real bigots.
Get ready to hear this story talked about a lot in the next few days/weeks.

    • gaycuckhubby

I stand with her. We applaud risk reduction and however she decided to do that was her choice. I think she was incorrect but its her decision to make. It’s true that men who have sex with men have a higher rate of STDs. It wasnt homophobic. It turned into a lot men telling a woman she must sleep with a certain man no matter her comfort level. Smacked of misogyny.

    • gaycuckhubby

We should mention that the backlash she got involved multiple calls to kill herself

      • Ninja0980

Which was unacceptable but also unacceptable is the notion she couldn’t be called out either.

        • gaycuckhubby

For what? Not having sex with men who have sex with men? Everyone agrees that men who have sex with men are at higher risk of STDs. The CDC, the GMHC everyone.
We all know the risks. We deal with it. A woman shouldnt be shamed into it.
Maybe she shouldnt have tweetwd it though. Its not PC to admit

          • Ninja0980

She shouldn’t have but also acknowledge this.
The LGBT community is rightfully afraid everything we’ve fought for is going to be undone.
To think there isn’t going to be backlash even with stuff like this is a pipe dream.

    • Sam_Handwich

      condoms work

      • gaycuckhubby

Not if the studio you work for doesnt use them. Then you use risk reduction

      • safari

        Bareback is very much back.

      • safari

        But don’t pay.

    • safari

My understanding of gay porn is that it can (not necessarily does) have much lower standards for STD prevention for performers. I can’t say I blame her.

      • Ninja0980

It does, especially in the day and age of bareback porn where studios take shortcuts due to piracy, web cams etc.
I get her fear but her statement shouldn’t have gone unchallenged either.
Not an easy case at all.

        • safari

After the rise of studios like Treasure Island, I don’t see safer-sex porn profitable. I remember, back in the day, when I downloaded. At one point the Bareback category exploded over all others. It is truly the most popular type of porn.

          • gaycuckhubby

They’re are VERY few condom studios

          • safari

It’s just more “natural” especially when it comes to “fiction”. And we can mitigate STD transmission… especially HIV transmission. But the risk exists and the period to be almost-completely-sure after the last sexual encounter is months.

          • AJ Drew

            AJ turns 12yo:

“the Bareback category exploded over all others” hehehehe!

        • gaycuckhubby

So your saying you agree with her but she shouldnt have said it because it hurt peoples feelings?

          • Ninja0980

I’m saying there are no easy answers.

          • gaycuckhubby

I understand. And I want to apologize, ninja… i just realized how sharp and defensive my tone is becoming. I disagree that she was being homophobic at all. But i respect you

          • Ninja0980

            Thank you.
I will say this.. I can see fallout happening from this in the porn world with certain stars.
Jeremy Bilding/Ryan Driller, Lucas Knight and whatever name he’s using now etc.
            Their careers are over.
There is anger over this (no surprise) and the folks who went from gay to straight porn are going to be the ones to experience it through no fault of their own.

    • safari

Just to make this not all homo-centric:

I had a sore throat. I went to the doctor. She and I had a wonderful discussion about current STD practices. In general, the young are less likely than they were a decade ago to use a condom. It’s a general trend.

      • gaycuckhubby

        Yep.
New AIDS cases are down but other diseases are up.

        • Ninja0980

The problem is we make HIV/AIDS the end all be all of bad STDS when others are just as bad.
And PREP doesn’t do a darn thing for some of them.

          • gaycuckhubby

There is gonorrhea out there that is resistant to all antibiotics,

    • boobert

I think a problem with gay porn is that they do everything possible to hide the condom use. It’s not there , then it is, then it’s gone again. Pulling out of a hot ass with a cum filled condom is pretty hot.

      • fuzzybits

        It’s like a magic act.

    • gaycuckhubby

It seems like we dont want to admit that gay anal sex is riskier than other forms of sex. So to make ourselves feel good we shamed a young woman about her sexual choices.

The truth is we can have hot, passionate, nasty fun sex and be smart about it. But we need to stop lying about the risks

    • fuzzybits

It may get mentioned on some online blogs but the MSM won’t report on this. They don’t want to talk about those “dirty” people who do porn.

      • gaycuckhubby

True. It will be discussed among us porn afficiandos 😉

Screw that shit. I’ll be slipping my server cash in that case.

      • Mike_in_the_Tundra

That’s exactly what I was thinking. BTW – many waiters and waitress tip the busboys, because a good busboy can help with the customer turnover.

      • AJ Drew

Always preferred; due to credit card fees, some places take a “fee” percentage out of the tip before the server gets it. The tip-pooling isn’t uncommon (for the busser, the host, etc,) but allowing the biz owner to take tips in order to invest in their business, when that was clearly not the customer’s intention? That’s wrong.

      • Snarkaholic

Yes…via handshake. Don’t leave it on the table, where the mgr. or some other rat fink can alert the boss to it’s existence/amount.

      • cleos_mom

I almost always leave tips in cash. Using a credit card makes it easier for the boss to steal them; and restaurant management seems to attract far more than its share of bullies.

    • SoCalGal20

share it with non-tipped workers or use it to “make capital improvements, lower prices, or hire additional workers.”

How about a big fucking NO. Btw, CA is one of the few states that pay servers minimum wage.

      • Helen Damnation™

If the restaurant is fine dining, most sales are probably paid with plastic, which means no hiding tips if they’re on the receipt. I bet their paychecks pay mostly to cover the taxes on the tips. I used to receive ‘negative’ checks when I worked at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville (where I was McConnell’s and his first wife’s favorite waiter for several years.) (Sherrill Redmond, not Elaine) (If I had only known then, what I know now.)

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Seriously, why work if as a waitperson if you can’t even keep your tips.

    • Ninja0980

Looks like I’ll be paying my servers under the table then.

    • sadoldguy

Why not just pay your employees?

The whole ‘tip’ system is a scam for management to avoid taxes and manipulate tipped workers.

      • Helen Damnation™

          • Helen Damnation™

I beg your pardon. I worked as a waiter and a captain at the five-star (then) Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, We were all dressed in full English regalia, with white jackets and long, white aprons. Nobody showed anyone their tits, and we made an excellent living.

          • cleos_mom

If moore wins and the republicans throw him out, the governor will appoint another republican. But, they will also need to have another election. Jones might be able to run again , and he’ll have plenty of ammo to pull off a win.

      • sadoldguy

Any Democrat will have a difficult time winning in alabama. But Jones’ ‘baggage’ of convicting kkk members might be sufficient to sink him against any republican.

Imagine, convicting child murderers being an impediment !

        Only in the south !

    • johncAtl

After 11/8/16 I have trouble believing that polls mean anything. Pretty much every poll said Hillary would win easily. And Nate Silver was beaten up here on JMG, and elsewhere, for saying Trump could win.

      • Helen Damnation™

Especially in Alabama. Republicans give weird answers due to the incessant conspiracy theories always floating around. And they’re idiots.

      • Tread

It’s the fact that Republicans will lie to cover up their embarrassment who they’re voting for. They don’t want to be frowned upon for voting for assholes.

Hot daddy alert in the untuckit commercial ! And the son looks like he’s really glad to see him, by the bulge in his pants, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFPzYOhiny4

    • John30013

I pointed out the bulge (and the hot daddy) to my husband a few days ago.

I wish UNTUCKit had used this ad as a jumping off point to tell the whole story of the father and son’s separation. From the photo the son’s girlfriend asks about, it’s clear they were once close (they went skiing together). So what drove them apart? And more importantly, what does it have to do with whether one tucks in his shirt or not?

    • johncAtl

Son and daddy are cuties. And I’ve seen the ads for those shirts in the Delta Sky magazine. I’m tempted to buy a couple, but damn they’re expensive.

Do you mean to tell me they have NOT been running ads that make it CLEAR that cops had to keep this predator away from high school cheerleaders and a mall banned him because he was constantly hitting on teenagers on their property?

Not to run ads disseminating these FACTS is a FAILURE to do one’s DUTY–everything in one’s power–to keep a sexual predator OUT of the Senate!

    • if it’s one thing the national level democrats are allergic to, it’s FACTS. really, all yall who give them your hard earned money? you gotta accept that. and what we should be doing instead.

OT: I’ve never heard of Dexter Fletcher before. He’s been picked to replace Singer on the Bohemian Rhapsody movie. Also what % of the movie is already done?

    http://variety.com/2017/film/news/bohemian-rhapsody-new-director-dexter-fletcher-bryan-singer-1202632599/

“Fox has tapped Dexter Fletcher as the new director of “Bohemian Rhapsody” to replace the fired Bryan Singer.

Production will resume next week in London. Fletcher’s directing credits include “Eddie the Eagle,” which Fox distributed, and “Wild Bill” along with acting credits
    on “Kick-Ass” and “Stardust.”

The studio made the announcement late Wednesday afternoon, two days after firing Singer under the “pay or play” provision of his contract. Fox did not elaborate on why it had fired Singer, but sources said that it was due to repeated failures to show up on the set.”

    • johncAtl

Singer had sexual assault allegations made against him many years ago. I think all of the recent sexual abuse accusations against others are going to drag Singer down too. The old allegations seem to be resurfacing. I think Fox may be trying to cover the real reason they fired Singer.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

I’ve also heard of some of the allegations from way back when. Though this article highlights a lot of really unprofessional & sloppy behavior on his part rather than the assault allegations.

        https://www.thedailybeast.com/bryan-singer-the-epitome-of-hollywoods-white-male-privilege-problem

I hate that he was given tons of chances while a lot of talented & well-behaved people never get that first shot.

      • Mikey

(during the filming of Apt Pupil)
some of those allegations were ridiculous, however.
one was made against an assistant (if I recall correctly) who happens to be a happily married straight guy. the kid’s mother was crazy and trying to pump up the other mothers to also make accusations (very few went along with it, for the simple reason that there WAS no sexual abuse, or abuse of any kind for that matter).

Now, I have repeatedly read about how Singer likes twinkish guys. So I’m not absolutely defending him if it comes to light that anything untoward happened with any minors.
But as far as I can tell, he hasn’t committed any assaults, rapes, etc… He’s a young-looking guy (or at least he has always had a boyish look to him), and likes young-looking guys.

It’s important to remember that young-looking does not necessarily mean under-age.

        • johncAtl

I agree. But right now it seems that allegations outweigh facts. And let’s not even discuss pussy grabber and mall pedophile.

Apt Pupil got so-so reviews, but I really liked it. It’s hard to not like Ian McKellen.
