LIVE VIDEO: Trump Delivers Statement On Jerusalem

The Associated Press reports:

The White House says President Donald Trump will deliver remarks Wednesday outlining his decision on a potential move of the U.S. Embassy in Israel.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the president is “pretty solid” in his thinking on the plan but won’t say what Trump will announce. Sanders says the president will make the “best decision for the United States.”

U.S. officials have said Trump may recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, a move that could inflame tensions across the Middle East but offset a likely decision delaying his campaign promise to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

From the New York Daily News:

The move has the potential for widespread backlash across the fragile Middle East, with a group of Palestinians gathering Tuesday night and burning pictures of the President.

Fears of violence and a breakdown in peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians have led other world leaders from Saudi Arabia to the Vatican to make their case to Trump to avoid exacerbating the situation for little gain.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ office said that Trump had made his intentions clear in a phone call, and his spokesman said that he warned of “dangerous consequences such a decision would have.”

King Abdullah II of Jordan and King Salman of Saudi Arabia, both important U.S. partners, issued similar statements after speaking with the President, with the former saying that it would “fuel the feelings of Muslims and Christians.”

Summary – Sheldon Adelson really, really wants this to happen and his money helped me get elected so I will destabilize the Middle East to make him happy.

  • Michael R
  • madknits

If the US recognises Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel and moves its embassy there, it will piss off the entire Muslim world. This will mean that we’ll have to buy Russian oil and gas, and that we’ll have to develop pristine and protected lands in the US. Our lands get raped and we give lots of money to Russian oligarchs, especially Putina, who is heavily invested in Russian gas.

    • William

Putin will be ecstatic if OPEC raises the price of oil.

      • Karl Dubhe 2

Let’s be honest, so will we. (in Canada, anyhow.)

  • Lazycrockett

This is lunacy and will end with people rioting and dying.

    • Natty Enquirer

That’s the fashion in some parts of the world.

      • Ann Kah

Maybe even in our own, thanks to the Orange Vulgarian.

    • William

Arms manufacturers will make a killing.

    • clay

And the US Embassy in Tel Aviv is already prepped for that. Staff and families were told to shelter in place yesterday morning.

    • Miji

I’m sure Netanyahu would love an excuse to crack down on the Palestinians some more.

      • timlister82

Oh please. As much as I hate Trump, the Palestinians are just as loony and their government is just as theocratic as the worst of the GOP.

  • Karl Dubhe 2

What’s the worst that could happen?

    Oh, yah. 🙁

  • Treant

    Trump seems sane.

Didn’t he just sign a six month waiver to deciding whether to move the embassy?

    • Karl Dubhe 2

Guardian reported on Monday that he had failed to sign that waiver.

      I guess we’ll find out.

  • IAMBOWLINGQUEEN
  • boobert

Jerusalem is the topic? That’s a laugh. Let’s see, time cover, no collusion, Hillary, President Obama, North Korea, take your pick.

I’m thinking finalizing that godawful ReportViewer report I’m writing is a good idea. Catch ya on the flip side. 🙂 Dealing with missing parameter references that generate no error but still fail the entire report is more fun than listening to this speech.

Trump hasn’t tweeted in two days.

He knows he’s fucked, so he’s starting a war.

    • clay

Also in the last two days: The White House email blast has stopped mentioning Mike Pence’s official schedule.

      • bkmn

        Interesting…

      • TampaDink

Maybe he’s taking the rest of the year off now that the war on xmas has been won.

        • bkmn

I was wondering if Trump took the article about Pence salivating to assume the Presidency when Trump goes down.

          • TampaDink

If he “read” it, it was only because his own name was mentioned.

          • glass

He scans greedily for his name, Sir Lord Donald Pissknee of Beddingdown.

          • JackFknTwist

OK , I can add that to mu list of titles.

      • Karl Dubhe 2

        Are they expecting/planning a coup d’etat?

      • Miji

They’re not that creative. Maybe they can’t come up with a good cover story for “tied up in a broom closet”.

        • Paula

He is in a secret, undisclosed location. Like Cheney always was.

          • Miji

Probably he and Mother. I hear she hates Trump.

      • FAEN

Mother is already measuring for new drapes. Melania is secretly thrilled she can finally be rid of BLOTUS. Not sure what Daughter/Wife is thinking though.

      • JCF

Drumpf doesn’t want Pence to know he’s tracking him, for a pre-emptive strike.

    • William

      Couldn’t he just nuke Paraguay?

      • kareemachan

What did Paraguay ever do to you?

        • William

I spun the wheel of non-threatening foreign countries.

          • Miji

That’s sound foreign policy practice compared to the current administration.

          • kareemachan

I would warn anybody living on Nauru to leave and then nuke it. It’s pretty well shit already.

      • orion dumptee

    • JackFknTwist

Precisely ……………..in addition, it would have been a war on North Korea but the military stopped him , so he starts a war in the Middle East instead…… I guess Jared the expert advised him.

It would be funny if it didn’t mean more deaths of Palistinians. Trump/turd added murder to his non-credentials.

Top Democrat criticizes Trump FROM THE FUCKING RIGHT:

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/363465-schumer-advised-trump-on-declaring-jerusalem-as-israels-capital

“Schumer himself told JTA that he supported the U.S. moving its embassy to Jerusalem and criticized Trump over his “indecisiveness” on the issue.

“President Trump’s recent comments suggest his indecisiveness on the embassy’s
relocation,” Schumer told the news agency. “As someone who strongly
believes that Jerusalem is the undivided capital of Israel, I am calling
for the US Embassy in Israel to be relocated to Jerusalem.”

Schumer said the move would “appropriately commemorate the fiftieth anniversary
of Jerusalem’s reunification and show the world that the US
definitively acknowledges Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”

  • Karl Dubhe 2

Oh, that’s a strange setting to use for this kind of announcement.

    State Department issues travel warning:

“With widespread calls for demonstrations beginning December 6 in Jerusalem and the West Bank, U.S. government employees and their family members are not permitted until further notice to conduct personal travel in Jerusalem’s Old City and in the West Bank, to include Bethlehem and Jericho. Official travel by U.S. government employees in Jerusalem’s Old City and in the West Bank is permitted only to conduct essential travel and with additional security measures. United States citizens should avoid areas where crowds have gathered and where there is increased police and/or military presence. We recommend that U.S. citizens take into consideration these restrictions and the additional guidance contained in the Department of State’s travel warning for Israel, the West Bank and Gaza when making decisions regarding their travel.”

    O/T but rather prescient.

Regarding the release of TIME’s Person of the Year 2016. Today, in my country, we are observing a solemn day in our history, the massacre of 14 women at the École Polytechnique in Montreal. These women were killed by a cowardly man-child who believed all his problems in life were the fault of women. That TIME released it’s Person of the Year today and that it is women who stepped forward to break the silence is a bittersweet coincidence of history.

There is no Palestine, which is the problem. There’s a Palestinian government, but it covers people in occupied territories. The Palestinian people don’t have a real land to call home (that Israel could then nuke).

W don’t care what Trump/turd recognizes…….the EU does not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

All that has happened is that a fool has ignited the Middle East.
As many of you have said, there’s no cure for stupid.

Put your Embassy where you like ….you will be isolated in Jerusalem as the USA is now isolated all over the world.
This a sshole is destroying the standing that the USA had in the world.

    • thatotherjean

Yeah, we know. Our electoral process usually works well enough, but we really screwed up this time. With just a little luck, it won’t last forever. It will be a long road back to respectability in the world, though,

I’s actually quite sickening listen to Israel’s propaganda asserting that Jerusalem is their capital.
The truth of the matter is that Jerusalem is illegally occupied.
Also Israel has criminally blocked the Palestinians from having their own state since 1947 and been illegally in occupation of Palestinian lands since the war of 1967.

No other country will be moving their Embassy; and certainly not on the urging of the deranged maniac Trumo/turd, indictee in waiting.

    • Edmund Allin

Even if one disagrees 100% with what you’re saying, one is left with the question: what’s the benefit, what’s the cost? The benefit seems largely to be domestic (but preaching to the choir) and the cost, considerable. I’m not even sure there are any benefits to Israel. At the same time, no US President after Trump will ever be able even to pretend to act as an honest broker over the thorny issue of Israeli-Palestinian relations (not that I believe they were much interested or that this issue can be resolved without a degree of political genius we haven’t seen in over 50 years, but at least there was the teensiest bit of hope). Coming on top of his interesting travel sanctions, this is nothing more than a petulant FU to Arabs in particular, and muslims in general, and will weaken the US hand in the Middle East while playing into, hmm, Russia’s and China’s, I’d guess.

It would be delicious if the countries not included in the travel ban, which coincidentally (ROFLMAO) have Trump assets within, all or mostly all decided to cease business with our country and ESPECIALLY Trump.

He might just need that income he’s totally (not) donating just to keep up his daily Big Mac deliveries.
