Mitch McConnell Flip-Flops On Roy Moore [VIDEO]

CNN reports:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell changed his tone Sunday on whether he thought Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore should be in the Senate, saying he would “let the people of Alabama make the call” in the state’s special election December 12. On ABC’s “This Week,” McConnell said that if Moore wins, the Senate Ethics Committee would have to consider the allegations against him.

“I think we’re going to let the people of Alabama decide a week from Tuesday who they want to send to the Senate, and then we’ll address the matter appropriately,” McConnell said. Last month, McConnell said he believed several women who have accused Moore of pursuing relationships with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s, saying he should “step aside.” McConnell also told reporters in the past that the Republican Party was looking to see if a “write-in” option could be successful.

I’ve never seen so much hot air out of a member of a species that’s supposed to be cold-blooded.

  • Stogiebear

It’s amazing how difficult this issue of child molestation is for the Pedophile Republicans.

    • Judas Peckerwood

Apparently it’s not difficult at all.

      • Todd20036

Nope, just bring lots of lube, and be able to groom them over time.

    • Steverino

“But oh, we have to have those bathroom bills to keep transwomen from molesting young girls…”

      • Guess?

They’re just afraid the transwomen will get to the young girls before they do. Similarly, the reason conservatives are opposed to abortion is because there would be fewer children to molest.

  • Jeffrey

Not a surprise to anyone with a functioning brain stem

  • Ben in Oakland

Of course you’ll let them decide, you fucking turtle. They will, with you or without you. But you sure wanna make sure that your majority is a majority.

  • Steverino

He should just crawl back into his shell, so someone can flip him over on his back and place a piece of lettuce tantalizingly out of reach.

  • coram nobis

“let the people of Alabama make the call”

And if it’s a Democrat? 50:50 odds that McConnell tries to disqualify him somehow.

    • Todd20036

If Roy were a democrat, every last Nazi in Congress would be calling for his head. Hell, they’d claim he was gay just so they could pin him on LBGT civil rights.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Turtle fucker said the same line about the SCOTUS pick……

  • SoCalGal20

LOL he doesn’t care if Moore is a child molester, as long as he has an R next to his name. And he never did care. Anybody who thought there would be a serious effort to oust Roy Moore once he was elected hasn’t been paying attention.

    • another_steve

moving directly to the Nazi analogy…

If Hitler ran as a Republican, today’s Republican Party would endorse him.

      • Tomcat

But if Jesus ran as a republican they would NOT endorse him.

        • another_steve

          “Real Jesus,” yes.

“Imaginary Jesus,” they’d vote for him.

        • coram nobis

Jesus would not be welcome in the GOP. He’s a Middle Eastern immigrant who was quoted as saying we should give to the poor, be peacemakers and dislike hypocrites.

          • another_steve

            Thank you, cn.

As a cultural Jew, I have no problem with Jesus. He was a good Jewish boy who advocated for love and justice, and whose mother thought he was the messiah.

My mama (such a good woman, may she rest in peace) thought I was the messiah too.

          • Todd20036

*shrug* I was a drug side effect.

          • another_steve

            Lol. Nonsense.

You and I are no doubt related, Todd. Fourth or fifth cousins. We Jews are a small population, relatively speaking.

I have a biological connection to the Baltimore/D.C. area. My maternal grandfather (may he rest in peace) had roots in this area.

          • Todd20036

Actually, my mother took a fertility pill. I was the beta baby (hidden behind a kidney. My heartbeat wasn’t detected until the 8th month)

          • another_steve

The exceptions are always special to parents.

My parents lost their first baby, 1947. A brain stem anomaly.

            They wanted two children.

My sister was born 1948 and I was the second child, 1952.

          • vorpal

My mama probably thinks I’m an “iah” short of the messiah.

          • another_steve

Well, understood in mystical terms, that’s true.

We understand/recognize “evil” only because we understand/recognize “good.” The one defines the other.

We would not understand/recognize the one were it not for the other.

        Not right wing enough.

    • cowboyinbrla

It’s not that he cares Moore was a child molester *as far as the children go*.

But he does care about the molesting if they, coupled with Moore winning, cause the Republicans to lose Congress in 2018. That’s why he’s flailing around ineffectually – there’s no “win” here. Or rather, the only real win would have been for Moore to withdraw weeks ago when this broke and launch a solid, concerted write-in campaign for Strange, or Sessions, or somebody else.

As it stands now, the R’s either lose a seat in the Senate that nobody thought the Dems would be able to take, or else they get a millstone around their necks going into next year’s elections. Can’t say either outcome bothers me much.

      • A loss would actually work to their advantage in 2018. “Look what those libruls did to us.” If Moore wins they are the party with a statutory rapist in office. Although I think the tax bill is the talking point for next November.

        • cowboyinbrla

I agree on the tax bill for sure. But remember that whether Moore or Jones wins, he won’t be up for re-election in 2018 – not till 2020, when the rest of this term (which was Jeff Sessions’) expires. By then, if we’ve had more indictments and the tax bill doesn’t pay off, we could be looking at an even bigger wave with the presidential race on the ballot.

    • JackFknTwist

There was a time when most Senators had some integrity.
      Now, not so much.

      • In 1974 a group of GOP senators met with Nixon and told him that he was going to be convicted if there was a trial in the senate and that he had to resign. There’s no way that would happen now.

    • DN

      THIS

    • They might have thought that the threat of Moore not being seated would encourage someone to run a write-in campaign. After all, it worked for Murkowski.

  • Harveyrabbit

Turtleman thinks he has a little spring in his step and some political capital after the tax vote so he’s giving Chester the Molester a pass. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/107d5a070e1f39ff378dbf5830e6a4efe205ad799b7544b53147385b959fd3eb.png

          • netxtown

Not really. It just kind of played out that way. I bought my place from the same guy who had the 20 acres. I made him an offer on the 20 – and he was coming out on July 13 to sign a buyer’s agreement. Unbeknownst to me – the fucking snake sold it to a developer on July 11. That developer tore the land all up and started building a house. He sold a lot to some friends – who built a house but couldn’t get septic permit cuz they were on 1/2 acre. The developer wanted 40k for another half – and the friends walked. Three months later – the developer filed bankruptcy. Bank had it for a few years, then a guy came in a bought the whole thing…which resulted in the 13 lots.

  • Ninja0980

The laughable part of this is some on the left are going to blame the fact we didn’t shove Franken out the door the first day for Mitch McConnell doing this and Republican voters in Alabama supporting Moore.
    To that I say bullshit.
We could push all Democrats accused of sexual harassment out the door the first day and Republicans would still be voting for Moore regardless.

    • HaHaHa

The difference is Dems have the integrity to fess up and apologize. Repubs just deny and smear with no regard for the further trauma they cause their victims.

      • Steverino

Republicans are tribalistic trolls. Trolls do unto others as they would NOT want others to do unto them.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

My attitude is we should just concentrate on doing the right thing with no regard to how the GOP act and think and criticize.

      • Reality.Bites

And to that I’ll add, “with no regard to how Bernie and his Bros act etc.”

Me, I want to elect Democrats. Any advice or opinion I give is designed to do that (doesn’t mean it’s good advice, but it’s honest).

Bernie doesn’t want to elect Democrats. Neither do Republicans. Their only desire is to harm.

      • JCF

People who can’t see the difference between Franken and Moore, never were going to anyway.

    • Daveed_WOW

The Right Wing narrative is irrelevant. There are no voters loyal to the Republican Party who have any chance of switching due to where the candidates fall on personal and professional scandals. We should do for our own according to our own standards and not worry what the effin’ Republicans think. Anything Dems do will ALWAYS be wrong so why bother? They are the abusive parent/spouse who is gaslighting us. Withdrawal from the relationship is the only option.

McConnell said Moore should step aside when he believed that Moore’s indiscretions would make him unelectable and leave the seat vulnerable to a Democrat. Now that it’s clear the soulless hypocrites of Alabama might very well elect this moral cretin, McConnell I said singing a different tune, “Welcome home, brother, welcome home.”

Hey Mitch, why would you endorse someone for Congress, when you wouldn’t trust them alone in a room with your grand children?

Why would you endorse someone for POTUS for that matter?

    • Treant

51 votes. Somebody to sign what they force through with 51 votes. Respectively.

      • Todd20036

        Yup. That’s all that matters.

Again, republicans fall in line, even with child molesters or murderers leading them

        • Treant

It’s costing them, if the 2017 elections were any indication (and they were). Which is why you’ll see that tax plan shoved through fast, and anything else they can manage to get together (not much) before November of 2018.

I’ve seen anti-gay articles before and NOTHING she wrote came even close to that.

      Me: Forgiven.
      Next.

      • Lumpy Gaga

        Mediaite: “Look! Look! Anti-gay bigotry!”
        Me: “Rilly, Mediaite?”

      • Ninja0980

Yup, especially since she didn’t need to IMO.

      • Steverino

And it was a genuine apology, not a condescending fauxpology for “hurt feelings.”

      • I’m not going back to read the articles. Can someone Cliff Notes it for me? Was it really that bad?

        • Acronym Jim

Joy Reid wrote a series of articles pointing out the hypocrisy of a certain closeted gay Florida Governor. Mediaite seems to think that makes her anti-gay.

Yes, the Mediaite story was really that bad.

          • JCF

And isn’t it funny, how Rep. Crist himself hasn’t come forward to demand an apology? (Perchance he sees this as a sleeping dog best left to lie?)

        • MikeBx2

She called Charlie Crist “Miss Charlie” a lot. Mocked him for what she claimed was his closeted gayness.

          • Gustav2

…just like most of the gay publications at that time in Florida.

    • Treant

OK, thanks Joy. I was only mildly annoyed by the articles to begin with so, whatever. Now go back to your excellent reporting.

      • Ninja0980

This is all done by the Bernie bots who are angry that Joy dared to call out St. Bernie again and Republicans who can’t stand she’s one of the only people who won’t put up with BS on her show.

        • Treant

You mean the Russians and Republicans; there really aren’t any Bern Victims with any power left in the US. 🙂

    • Blake J Butler

I’m pissed off at the fundamentalists, the green party bots, putin, and white supremacists, Joy Reid isn’t even on my shitlist because she has been consistent with her current views and actions. I’m not going to go after someone from things they said over a decade ago, if they are who they are in the present and not the past.

    • Dayglo

She did no harm. Hell, I’ve recently used the term “fruity” here to describe someone who’s fruity.

    • Cuberly Deux

The racists and homophobes trollz of mediaite are having a field day @ that article. It’s disgusting. But then it’s mediaite commenters so no surprise really.

The right is trying to spin Joy’s comments as homophobic. They were no less homophobic than how we refer to Lindsay Graham as Lindsaybelle or how we taunt any other closeted homocon.

      • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Oh theyre trying to do to joy what they did to Hills. Remember all the russo- lib-purists (perdue) saying Hills was against gay marriage blah blah.

There REALLY is nothing to see here except divisionists frantically trying to divide us

        • Cuberly Deux

I’m still intrigued at how the far far far left straddles racism to bash Joy. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

      • Ninja0980

        Yup.
If those on the right or the left are upset with that, they’d faint if they saw our posts on closeted homocons.

        • Cuberly Deux

…or even what homocons say about us. Oh, wait, they agree with trash like Milo and the rest of the alt-right kapos.

    • billbear1961

With the media’s complicity–they aren’t talking about his crimes like they did.

They aren’t pressing home the FACT he was banned from a mall and that cops had to keep him away from high school cheerleaders, and that this makes the women’s accusations even MORE believable.

Are they driving home the point that, as a judge, he sided again and again with rapists, even when their victims were as young as 12 (Moore said the rapist should have been allowed to present evidence she was sexually active and had a sexually transmitted disease) and FOUR years old (a rape at a Daycare by a man who worked there–Moore said there was no evidence the monster meant to do GRAVE physical harm to his 4-year-old victim)?

      NO, they AREN’T.

The worst thing the GOP pols could EVER do to themselves is destroy belief in democracy and peaceful demonstration because people w/o hope of fixing things through the ballot box will go outside the law. If you make it so that almost everybody is on the verge of going bankrupt, losing their house/health and forever being a wage slave whose wage doesn’t not cover living with no hope of advancement because education is too expensive, you create a situation where they have NO incentive to be peaceable.

Y’know, you really ought to be more suspicious about people who are *still* bigoted in their later years. Having a mind open to change and discarding the faulty positions of your earlier years is the sign of a healthy mind.
Shouldn’t you be more condemning of people who *dont* change their bigoted ways?
You know I used to be a racist bastard? I was raised in a racist household, in a racist period of my country’s history. I still struggle against it, but I know being racist is really fucking stupid. Would you condemn me for changing my attitudes?
And even (horror of horrors) should a politician change their stated position based on the socially acceptable standards of the day, so long as that change is toward civil rights and decent humanity, shouldn’t you be lauding their public reinforcement of those standards?
I know…. I know…. you’re just here to be a wanker. It’s fine. We can use your trolling as a learning moment anyway. After all, the purpose of some people’s life is to serve as a warning to others.

How the hell are you ever to grow your pool of allies if you keep bringing up the past of people who change to support you?

Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes and other committee Republicans, after considering such action for several weeks, decided to move after media including the New York Times reported Saturday on why a top FBI official assigned to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russia-Trump election collusion had been removed from the investigation.”

Oh, I miss Dr. Demento. Was a devoted listener in the early 80s. Used to record the show on my cassette tape recorder and listen to it through the week. Had quite the episode catalog back then.

A friend turned me on to Dr. D. around 1974. He aired past my bedtime, so I used to hide the radio behind my bed and run an earphone up to the pillow.

It was a moment of celebrity prostitution that those of us who were there choose not to dwell upon.

Oh, I remember the era of the variety show. Putting people not quite suited for certain things into roles they shouldn’t have even been considered for.

Said it before and I’ll say it again.
Franken and Conyers could have been gone on day one and Republicans in Alabama would still vote for Roy Moore.
Also, whatever happened to personal responsibility?
My parents taught my siblings and I early on that even if other kids got away with breaking things etc. that wouldn’t be the case with us.

    • gaycuckhubby

I want Conyers to resign. But not because it will win Dems elections in Alabama.
Truthfully, I don’t think Alabama voters care about Franken. But I want the Democrats to hold themselves to a higher standard because I AM a Democrat and I refuse to be a left-wing version of the Republican Party.
I’m not insisting on this because of our opposition, I’m insisting on this for ourselves. And for victims of sexual harassment and abuse

      • Ninja0980

Sad thing is if he doesn’t, only way to get rid of him is either expulsion (unlikely to happen) he gets primaried or he dies.

        • gaycuckhubby

Yes, I think we will have Senator Moore for 4 years. Or is it 6 in the Senate?

          • SoCalGal20

Senate is 6 years but since this is a special election I’m not sure when that al seat is up again. 2020?

    • Cuberly Deux

Reading the thread to the linked tweet, yep, that was enough. The copy/paste troll saying, there was no proof, that the “logical” conclusion was that this was a conspiracy against Moore by the Dems…blah blah….

Came to the conclusion, barring a miracle, Moore will win. Then he’ll be the GOP’s problem. Or, they’ll just head in the sand it and attempt to ignore it. Which would be advantageous for us. A dark, vile, disgusting, advantage, but still.

      • Lazycrockett

He will not be a problem for the GOP.

        • Cuberly Deux

That’s what I’m thinking. But it will condense their base even more.

      • Leo

That “troll” is Russian, bet on it. The stolen pic, the American flag, the sole tweeting on one subject of common memes to past bots – all the signs there. They’re all swarming to Doug Jones related tweets.

        • Cuberly Deux

Troll traffic has been over the top since Thursday. It’s flippin everywhere.

          • johncAtl

Want a Beethoven piano sonata? How about a Beethoven piano concerto? .Or maybe a choral work like the 9th’s Ode to Joy? Why not all three, in one compact piece… Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. Written 15 years before the 9th symphony, you can really hear a premonition of the 9th. It’s cued up to the intro to the choral part, but the whole piece is good, if you have the time.

          • Ross

Ah, Hillary did not write DOMA. Nor did she vote for it.

          • Ninja0980

Hillary didn’t draft or write DOMA or DADT, those were
            Republican bills all the way.
And if you want to talk about supporting marriage equality, Bernie didn’t fully support it until Vermont’s legislature was going to pass it in 09.
Before that, he was also opposed to marriage equality and thought civil unions were the best same sex couples could hope.
Certainly not the history he gave when he was running.

          • BeaverTales

It’s no secret to Bernie’s supporters that every major Democratic political figure, including Bernie, was against SSM before they were for it. What matters most is that when Edie Windsor was fighting her way through the courts starting in 2010, the DINOs were the last to support her. They aligned with the GOP.

You’re correct that the Republicans drafted DOMA + DADT for Bill Clinton to sign, which he did as ordered. In her role as the first spouse, Hillary obviously didn’t write or sign legislation, she merely defended her husband’s signing of those unconstitutional laws for the next 20 years.

Bill even had to defend Hillary’s homophobia in 2000: https://www.queerty.com/bill-clinton-cautioned-that-hillarys-discomfort-around-gay-issues-would-hurt-her-2000-senate-bid-20150924

Both Bernie was popular for having enough spine to not sign legislation that was essentially written by Republicans, like DOMA/DADT, the Iraq War nor the repeal of Glass Steagall/deregulation of Wall St. nor the bailouts. Bernie was a hypocrite about the Detroit auto bailout though.

Well except for maybe gay berniebots, who hate joy because she isn’t kissing his ass.

    • DaddyRay

Joy is too talented and she handled the situation perfectly. The ones making a big deal out fo it would love nothing more than to bring her down

      • Ninja0980

The most laughable part is the folks at Mediate etc(cesspools) who say all sorts of vile thing wanting her fired etc.
They actually think this is a gotcha moment.

Calling out closet cases that vote for anti GLBTQ laws, oh the humanity, Joe better watch himself or the Bernie Bros and Red Rose Rouge could come after him………………………………………

    • i only came to know her name a short time ago, as many people at the blogs i read were posting stuff she said or did. she seems like a pretty good person for her job, and if she’s about to get fired i’m not surprised. people who speak the truth in our media must always be prepared for that, and if the c&p stuff of hers i read is really hers? yeah, she went there and now TPTB are going to take her out. no surprise, really.

That level of party loyalty–anything to keep Democrats out of power–is exactly why the GOP controls 3/4 of all states and the entire federal government. Dems are weak in party loyalty and prefer to sabotage their own.

    Two thoughts:

This might be merely a strategic move: McConnell is hated in Alabama and his opposition galvanizes support for Moore. By not opposing him, he could be undercutting some of the spite-based support.

And, to McConnell, the best result might be (a) to let Moore win, (b) to use the ethics grounds to remove him, and then (c) to let the Republican governor of Alabama select another Republican for the seat. It would also allow the Republicans to look tougher than the Democrats are with Franken.

    • Reality.Bites

Interesting thoughts. But it may be ascribing too much thinking and planning to him.

Expelling a victorious Moore is the best for McConnell short term, but it would obviously piss off a lot of Alabama Republicans. Enough to do anything about it? Maybe.

Since nobody bought Dowd’s “I wrote that tweet” excuse now he’s claiming the President can’t obstruct justice. Tell me how this isn’t as bad (or worse) than Trump’s tweet lol.
