71% Of Republicans Say Roy Moore Is Innocent

Unshocking:

A new CBS News poll finds 71 percent of Alabama Republicans say the allegations against Roy Moore are false, and those who believe this also overwhelmingly believe Democrats and the media are behind those allegations. The poll found 92 percent of Republicans who don’t believe the allegations against Moore say the Democrats are behind the charges, and 88 percent say newspapers and the media are behind them.

Sorta. These guys actually support adult men marrying 15-16-yo girls. Roy Moore, Doug Phillips, Phil Robertson… all of them believe this and teach this as a matter of faith.

So Moore is not a creepy anomaly. This is how a substantial portion of these people think.

I saw a very revealing old movie a number of years ago, called “They Won’t Forget” (1937).

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Won%27t_Forget

[It was loosely based on the real life 1913 lynching of Leo Frank]

The point of it is that (white) Southerners “won’t forget” the Lost Cause, HATE Northerners (and everyone is not a white Southerner, is defacto a Northerner), and are ready at the drop of a hat to inflict violence against them [NB: these “defacto Northerners” are, of course, usually local black people—just not in this case.]

This Wiki quote on the Leo Frank case is telling:

“Both [NYT publisher] Ochs and [advertising magnate] Lasker [both, like Frank, Jewish] attempted to heed Louis Marshall’s warnings about
antagonizing the “sensitiveness of the southern people and engender the
feeling that the north is criticizing the courts and the people of
Georgia.” Dinnerstein writes that these attempts failed, “because many
Georgians interpreted every item favorable to Frank as a hostile act.”

See re WaPo and Roy Moore’s accusers. 100+ years later, and literally NOTHING has changed!

Living in DC, when the topic of statehood would come up, my ex used to say that any region that re-elects a – caught on tape – crackhead has proven itself incapable of self-governance.

Accepting that point for the sake of argument, I would argue that any political party that turns a blind eye to “grab ’em by the pussy” can be forgiven, should they show contrition and make serious efforts to right itself. But should Roy Moore win, the republican party will prove itself to be the party that endorses sexual assault.

    • canoebum

We need a process to dissolve statehood in cases where the residents of that state have proven themselves to be incapable of rational self-governance. These places should be reverted to territories so that they may be administered by people with enough knowledge and intelligence to do the job. Over time, if the residents can exhibit a sustained commitment to good governance, readmission to the union as a state may be considered.

What’s really sad is the betrayal by family members who choose their imaginary golden ticket to heaven over their REAL, physical children.

I know some people may have troubles with my atheism and see religion as an overall good thing but the fact that so many people choose an invite to an after death party over protecting their own children is a horror beyond measure.

#Churchtoo is full of stories of people who talk about being grade school age and being blamed for being preyed upon.

Fundajelicals look down on people in other countries who do honor killings but they are truly no different if they would inflict spiritual torture & death on their own children so they can keep cool with the rest of their tribe.

        • Todd20036

I wouldn’t call myself an atheist. I’m willing to allow the idea that there is more out there than what we can detect

        • CottonBlimp

I remember hearing about this hasidic Jewish man who went to the cops to report how his child had been raped by his rabbi. A week later, he was walking down the street when he was stopped by a hasidic woman with her disabled child in a wheelchair.

She said angrily to him, “I looked the other way when he molested *my* son, why couldn’t you?”

Food for thought about the GOP “tax reform”

This will hobble the US for at least a generation. People won’t be able to afford an advanced degree which will put the US at a competitive disadvantage vs. the entire rest of the developed world.

This will drive down income potential for the lower and middle classes which will mean less spending which means the economy will hobble along at best in the good times and the poor will suffer a lot more during economic downturns.

Favoring the “least of these”, and 4. Building a society based around the first three, then “spoiling the faith” of Jesus IS a “high human cost” (certainly not the only one, but one of them all the same).

      • Dazzer

Nope. Conner Habib is pretty damn gay.

I’ve never heard any stories that he might be straight.

        • Prost Seattle

Those eyes….so dead and lacking any human emotion.

    • Treant

Whatever. She’s a good reporter, I just won’t trust her on deep and complicated LBGT issues without cross-checking thoroughly.

There ya go, Conner, she is not my hero, just a respected lady.

      • gaycuckhubby

        100 upvotes, Treant

And Conner eats more than his share.

  • FAEN

To say that the ‘Republican Party’ has driven off the cliff and continues to hurtle down the ever bottomless pit of willfull ignorance and shameless insanity is a motherfucking understatement!

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

      Cults always do….
Maybe we can ship em all down to jonestown guyana

      • FAEN

        I second that.

  • Paula

So, in other words, Moore will be elected, the repubs will welcome him to the Senate with open arms, Trump will get an even bigger head, and nothing will change.

    • Todd20036

And gays will still be accused of molesting and recruiting children

      • Maxximiliann

“In the gay world, some of the most important, enriching and incredibly life-affirming, important shaping relationships very often between younger boys and older men, they can be hugely positive experiences for those young boys.” – Milo Yiannopoulos

There’s also all of the glaring media attention Hollywood and Washington homosexual predators have been getting these last few months.

Rightwing lie machine could convince those idiots that hard radiation is good for them.

Isn’t that one of Robert Mercer’s “beliefs”?

I think its time some one stood up and asked the question , which phrased correctly , should echo around the country . “WHO’S AMERICA IS THIS ANY WAY, THE PEOPLES OR THE GOP’S

A little early for an OT post, I know but very cute. Cats interrupting a man’s yoga session.

    https://youtu.be/ZBJQ1VioyI4

    • Ross

It is never too early for cats. Or dogs.

    • Treant

If he’d like to do some stretching, I’ll stretch him out. (He actually looks a bit hairless for me, but…)

      • JCF

Hairless? That’s what the cats are for! ;-p

    • AmeriCanadian

He’s a cutey AND a cat lover. What more could you want?

You know 2 minutes after he was done with yoga the cats were asleep and couldn’t be bothered.

O/T: The Pontiac Silverdome failed to implode today. It was built at a cost of $55M in the mid-70s to host the Detroit Lions and Detroit Pistons. Eventually the teams moved. In 2009 the city’s emergency manager removed the floor on bidding for the stadium and it sold for just over 10% of its construction cost — not counting for inflation. Then the new owner let the roof cave in. Today it was supposed to be demolished, but apparently 10% of the charges failed to go off. It still stands.
    https://deadspin.com/pontiac-silverdome-implosion-fails-1820955834

    • MikeBx2

They should have used the same demolition company that brought down the Georgia Dome. It was rubble before that city bus could get out of the way.

    • SoCalGal20

The monstrosity that will never die lol.

I’ve been there twice. Once for a Lions game (I won free tickets at work). And once to see Pink Floyd on the Division Bell tour (which was also the 20th anniversary of “Dark Side of the Moon”). Visually it was awesome but the acoustics were terrible. The pot was plentiful, as one would expect.

      • safari

I competed there a couple of years at the state competitive marching band finals in the 90s.

  • Phil2u

Ah…. Alabama Republicans… now, that makes sense. Except that they are probably responding “false” just for the effect.

OT: Trump’s lawyer now claims to be the one who sent Trump’s tweet saying Trump fired Flynn for lying to the VP and FBI, which implied Trump knew Flynn had committed a felony when he asked Comey to go easy on Flynn.
    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-s-lawyer-claims-responsibility-trump-s-problematic-tweet-n826036

Trump’s lawyer sending tweets on Trump’s behalf is supposed to make us feel better? Remember, Trump’s tweets are “official statements of the President”.
    http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/06/politics/trump-tweets-official-statements/index.html

    • JackFknTwist

Poor lawyer is so desperate that he lies for the Fuhrer

    • Chucktech

Actually, that makes it all the more believable. So Trump fired Flynn for lying to the FBI. Ergo, Trump knew all about it when he fired Comey. Got it.

  • GanymedeRenard

    Color me flabbergasted!

  • another_steve

I have contracted with the Intergalactic Population Resettlement Company of Planet Keno. They will – by tractor beam – be relocating all Republican Alabamians to an asteroid. Somewhere out there.

I didn’t ask where. All they told me was “somewhere.”

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/07a0c95d8ac99f3f592c917a89854bc58cdb1008c89e2dfe34d08d2d6d68bb51.jpg

    • safari

They then asked about dipping sauces and types of breading.

    • Jon Doh

Warn them about the need for a very powerful tractor beam. Republicans are far more dense than your average earthling.

      • McSwagg

        LOL! Love the double entendre

    • Ross

      only Republican Alabamians?

      How ’bout ALL Republicans?

      Petty, please?

      • another_steve

When I worked in government, my staff and I had a stock expression that we used in memos and the like: “We considered but rejected that option.”

I considered the option of having all Republicans beamed away.

I rejected it because there’s probably one or two nice ones among them.

        • McSwagg

You’re just afraid a certain “Jared” will be scooped up before you can get to him.

    • Treant

      I don’t like Planet Keno.

They play too many games with their budget numbers….

      • another_steve

        ^^ LMAO!

I have no idea why “Planet Keno” came to me. Why I named it that.

And that was before my first martini of the day… so you can only imagine what insanity will come from me later in the day. 😉

    • RJ Bone

Well, at least they won’t have a sustainable population. Even with millions of people, they all have one branch on the family tree. If they survive, they’ll all be orcs or something.

      • another_steve

The danger is that all the family interbreeding there will result in a discreet species that will one day find its way back to Planet Earth and wreak havoc.

        I sense a new sci-fi series spectacular.

        • RJ Bone

          Terrifyingly, that sounds kinda cool!

Personally, I’m counting on the… special genetic makeup of all the rednecks to work in humanity’s favor 😉

      • Prost Seattle

You family tree shouldn’t be a palm tree. Just sayin’.
Nor should it be a cactus: full of pricks.

    • McSwagg

      Keno?
Is that in the Mormon or Scientologist galaxy?

  • Treant

Yeah…I don’t believe that. It’s a cover lie for voting for him, and a cover lie for not caring and realizing that others will call you a kiddie fucker enabler for not caring.

    Basically, it’s a smoke-screen to avoid displaying that you’re a sociopath.

    Good job, Republicans. Good job.

  • Whore_Ta_Culture

Seriously?!?? We are talking about Alabamastan here….

    Inbreeding runs deep

  • When someone becomes a Republican send them this in their membership pack. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/abad6b56c34c6d1a8a03f884d20d6cbcab086a2ef5b2c9f226c2155978454678.jpg

  • Clive Johnson
    • Treant

Is it wrong that I find the missing teeth on the guy on the left slightly intriguing?

(Also, why hell don’t they support the ACA and dental coverage?)

      • Clive Johnson

        1. No.
        2. To own the libs.

    • JackFknTwist

They look like the Benham brothers.

      • Treant

After the dick of the one slammed into the other’s mouth so hard it removed teeth.

        • JackFknTwist

          OK – “The 69 Brothers.”

          • Treant

I was thinking “Banghim Brothers.” 🙂

  • JeauxFan

And the other 29% think he’s guilty but don’t care. Cause he’s Christian. Even though he put the moves on a 14 year old and many other teenaged girls. And lied about it. He’ll vote based on his Christian values because he’s a good Christian. 🤯

  • JT

Alabama stupid: Waddaya mean if I touch that fire I’ll get burned?

  • sword

Just like Obama had Oahu papers print his birth because he knew he was going to run for the Presidency decades later, Alabama Democrats groomed a whole bunch of young girls to seduce Moore when he was in his 30s…knowing that he would eventually run for Senator.

  • billbear1961

Yeah, he’s innocent–that’s why a mall banned him and cops had to keep him away from high school cheerleaders, because the monster is innocent.

Like their politicians, Republicans are so goddamned EVIL.

At what point will this country say it will no longer accept or recognize the authority of a ruthless party of proven liars, hypocrites, thieves, fanatics and predators, who are trying to destroy good government, who reject the the fundamental democratic PRINCIPLE of the equal protection of the laws for ALL citizens, a party out to serve only themselves and their rich masters, a party that has totally CORRUPTED the legislative process, a party that rejects the very concept of objective TRUTH??

What place is there in a GENUINE democracy for a political party that rejects the tenets of modern democracy, a party utterly DEVOID of scruples, one ready to let even CHILDREN suffer and DIE without adequate healthcare for no reason except to make the already wealthy even wealthier?!

Through the veins of the American rich and their lackeys–who have declared WAR on you–who, merciless, stand ready–no, EAGER!–to consign tens of thousands of you to premature DEATH yearly–flows the PUS of IDOLS!!

  • leastyebejudged

    Jesus makes them retarded.

  • j.martindale

Still, if 30 percent of the Rethugs don’t vote for him, and the Democratic turnout is good, he may still lose. Keep up the hope.

    • Treant

Absolutely. In Alabama, that–about -30 Republican, +10 Democrat, should turn this into a dead heat.

Assuming a free and fair election with minimal tampering, it’s in flip a coin territory.

  • Taylor Bixler
  • RJ Bone

It’s amusing that the conservatives would accuse Liberals of lying and dirty tricks. THE CONSERVATIVES.

Their leadership ALONE, much less the sheeple… Leave the news on for ten minutes on Fox and it’s difficult to keep track of how many lies you get. Listen to one press conference from Huckabee-Sanders. One speech from Conway. Go to church for ONE service.

    Projection, at its finest.

    • RJ Bone

And Project Veritas, FOR FUCK SAKE.

  • Ninja0980

    Family values for you!

  • Adam Stevens

When tribalism and lack of education meet head-on, you get Roy Moore in the Senate.

  • GOP voters care not one wit about the man’s track record. Fact: Moore was removed from his position on the state’s supreme court TWICE for unconstitutional behavior. Sexual misconduct, racism, non-respect of the constitution, misappropriation of charity funds… Believers refuse facts.

    • Gianni

Facts are inconvenient and require consideration and thinking. Who has time for that when you just plain old like the guy.

  • If this surprises you, then you don’t know any Republicans.

  • Dayglo

How come 100% of all my bosses and brother-in-laws have been Republicans? Come to think of it, every dentist I’ve visited was a right-winger. Do people follow a script or something?

  • Time to circle the wagons.

Anyone who didn’t see this coming hasn’t been paying attention.

  • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

Congrats, Alabama, on keeping the ignorant, amoral, bigoted, misogynistic, hypocritical, inbred southern stereotype alive and well.

Also, fuck all y’all. Except the smart and compassionate folks, who should get the hell out of the cesspool. Really, people — GET OUT OF THERE.

  • Yamdevyam Yam

Roy Moore can thank Gloria Allred for that. the moment that ambulance chasing democrat hack of a lawyer chimed in this case was the moment Roy Moore was confirmed for Senate

  • nipper

71% of Alabama GOP thinks pedophiles are OK

  • Gianni

Even w/o the sexual allegations, Roy is and has been a vile person. He was kicked off the judicial bench TWICE for refusing to obey court orders and believes Supreme Court decisions with which he disagrees are not to be obeyed and advises underlings to do same. He hates us and ‘equal rights’ do not apply to us because of his personal feelings. He’s a detestable man who shouldn’t even stand a chance for consideration to be a Senator. Republicant nimrods don’t give a rat’s ass about the “Moral Character” of someone when they just hate the same people and believe in what he stands for. The whole state of Alabama has a stink to it because of this law-breaking creep.

  • Dunkerblinker

Just confirms my opinions of the people of Alabama….

    • Rambie

      Confirms my opinion of Republicans

  • No More GOP.

    Of course they do.

  • JackNasty

Trump gained power exploiting Americans’ racism. He attacked, and continues to attack Mexicans, Black Athletes, Muslims. The 35 percent who approve of Trump do so because they are racist. Roy Moore fits that same profile. in Alabama. Alabamans love their bigoted candidate, Roy Moore ,because they are bigots ND THEY SUPPORT HIS BIGOTRY.

A predator… loll Because someone came out and said so? Where is any evidence? Dont become the lynch mob mentality because you cannot pull that type of society back and remember who did it originally? Do you really want to go back to public executes someone before any trial? If there were so much proof dont you think he would be charged? Dont follow midea like a damn zombie and think for yourself. Same with others on both sides that say something happened 30 years ago and we are suppose to instantly believe it true.

  • Casey Pharr

But no, i would shoot a predator, and also piss of liberals by saying something real and the PC of it will just fucking remove them by being offended. LIke a woman saying she identifies as a fucking cat is a mental disorder nothing more.

  • Casey Pharr

Think for yourselves people. Everything was hanky dory until Trump got elected and during that process the congress on both sides stated they would “Never let him be president no matter what we voted”. They then recalled that statement. Now look. Supposedly he gets voted and all of a sudden, we are working with Russia, full of sex offenders, racist, secretly have been ran by Neo fascists, etc…. lol You are nothing but a soldier drone for them. You think you are a justice social warrior but your just being used as always running on emotions. Just like Occupy Wall street, and all the other garbage…

  • Ore Carmi

    Alabama. A bad idea.
