Obama: If I Watched Fox News, I Wouldn’t Vote For Me

The Hill reports:

Former President Barack Obama joked Friday that if he watched Fox News, he wouldn’t have voted for himself. Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi, Obama took shots at the network, which is widely criticized for its negative coverage of Democrats.

“If I watch Fox News, I wouldn’t vote for me,” he said. “I would watch it and say who is that guy? This character Barack was portrayed in weird ways. It is all edited and shaped. The point is, you get multiple realities.”

President Trump has repeatedly praised Fox News’ coverage throughout his campaign and presidency, while slamming other networks like CNN as “fake news.”

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Thapar concluded the session by testing Obama’s diplomatic skills with a question about Trump and one of Walt Disney’s most iconic characters. “There are two Donalds in America – Donald Trump and Donald Duck. Which of them represents the real America?”

As laughter subsided, Obama chose his words carefully, saying: “Let me say this – the thing I love about America and the thing, I assume, you love about India, is just this cacophony of life [that these countries have] and it throws up all kinds of variety. And there are political trends in America that I don’t agree with and abide by, but I recognize them as part of a running thread in American life.”

  • Dutchlander

Eloquent. Damn how I miss that.

  • Acronym Jim

Now THAT’S how you troll a “news” organization that actually peddles lies and smears.

    • Tawreos

Of course Fox will now have to get indignant over how “fair” they treated him and can’t believe he would say this about them.

  • Gerry Fisher

An essay last year said something such as, “When fascism came to America, of COURSE it was in the form of a reality TV star.”

  • TexasBoy

Wow, imagine that! A former President can say something, and EVERYONE knows exactly what he means without it being run through handlers like Kellyanne and Sarah.

    • Tawreos

Well he spoke in clear concise sentences with no stupid bullshit being thrown in. It is not hard to parse meaning when someone speaks like an adult should.

    • AC

Everyone knows exactly what Dumb Dumb means also. The handlers are just trying to clean up..

  • netxtown

I’d vote for the duck – not the dotard.

  • Glenn E Ross

Thinking, then speaking, what a concept.

  • OdieDenCO

let’s hope the political thread running thru American now ends in a noose.

Popcorn has been purchased months ago, damn it!

Spring for truffle butter for the popcorn.

        • ted-

If you can give me an impeachment tomorrow, I’ll give you a full body massage as we watch it. I’ll hire someone to feed you the truffle buttered popcorn as you savor every minute of his impeachment.

          Just make it happen!

    • Stogiebear

Or a raising rope. But then, I’ve always been partial to guillotines.

  • TexasBoy

It’s wonderful to again hear the words of a political figure without the words sounding as if they were uttered by a person suffering from stage four dementia.

  • Ninja0980

    Come back to us Obama!

  • Tawreos

Do you ever get the feeling that this country never deserved a man like Obama to lead it if we replaced him with an infantile ass with the vocabulary of a very slow 7th grader?

    • KarenAtFOH

The majority of this country did not replace him with trump.

  • Rex

If I could turn back time…

  • Boreal
  • Snownova

A president who can talk and stay on a single topic for more than 15 seconds, amazing.

  • Kevin Perez

I miss complete thoughts from presidents.

    • Alexander Stallwitz

I miss having a president who reads books myself or anything above a dinner menu really.

How to Read Donald Duck (Para leer al Pato Donald) is a 1971 book-length essay by Ariel Dorfman and Armand Mattelart that critiques Disney comics from a Marxist point of view as being vehicles for American cultural imperialism. It was first published in Chile, became a bestseller throughout Latin America and is still considered a seminal work in cultural studies. It will have its first large scale US printing NEXT year.

    • Canadian Observer

I hope they include the introductory essay on how the MSM went out of the way to destabilize Allende’s government to pave the ground for the CIA backed coup against him – it is the preface to the edition of the book that I own (a European reprint from 1979) and it is pretty much a blueprint of how Fox news (and the rest of the Murdoch empire) operates. The parallels to what is happening now are absolutely terrifying.

      • clay

I attended a faculty meeting earlier in the year about how to teach students about / avoid ‘fake news’ and there were several faculty going “What’s that?”. Others were like, “It’s new, on Twitter and Facebook, don’t have to worry as long as they’re using real world sources.”

So, I just had to say, “Let me tell you about what ‘Fake News’ is in German, and why that phrase was made illegal there.”

So Fox News is just part of the great tapestry of America, just another honest voice – if one we may disagree with – in our political dialogue?

RW media is about billionaire-funded 24/7 DISINFORMATION and BRAINWASHING. It has brought this country to DESTRUCTION and maybe will even yet bring it to civil war.

RW media took a perfectly decent, moderate president (Obama) and made millions upon millions of Americans hate and fear him for absolutely no reason, using endless lies and cocked-up 24/7 nonsense. Then it did the same to Hillary. Now it uses the same techniques to prop up an actual traitor.

We remain in the midst of the greatest calamity in our country’s history because of RW billionaire funded media. It still remains a toss-up if we’ll even survive the damage these monsters have done and continue to do.

I love you Barack, but this isn’t some ha-ha joke. When might your rhetoric get a little stronger about this situation – maybe when everything’s reduced to actual smoldering wreckage – will you then have something perhaps a mite stronger to say?

think this might revive the ducks career ? i thought he was retired and living in vegas,

  • BobSF_94117

I assume he’s huddled together with others and decided being above it all is the best approach.

I think he and they are seriously wrong.

  • Ross

I live in Kansas. Surrounded by friggin’ Republicans.

Over and over I have asked: “Did FOX ever once say a good thing about Obama?”

    Answer: “No!”

“Did FOX ever once criticize George Bush?

    Answer: “No!”

“OK. So, tell me again how FOX is fair & balanced?”

    Answer: (blank stare)

  • His foreign policy is the same as a Republican – look at Libya now.

    • Bj Lincoln

Have you ever thought after much talking/listening to Generals that it was his only choice instead of a man-child who doesn’t listen or knows a thing about it making a snap decision?

      • It was not his only choice and he said it was the biggest mistake of his presidency. He has not apologized however for escalating our military in 6 other countries as well as aiding the Saudis in their fight against Yemen that is now causing a famine. He was a horrible foreign policy president.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Heimaey thinks everyone else is “like a republican.” but himself. Consider that as you will.

  • Kevin Andrews

Oversaw the most corrupt election in US history but I still admire his ability. Took the steaming pile of shit left by Dubya’s Fascist Rape of America and Wars of Lies and created stability where there was only war from the Republicans against We The People. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/aa4812064dd0e5bf9030b9b43c83eac3739d11fb150570ae87582db770b19b27.png

And still, he takes the high road. I miss that man.

  • Halou

Imagine that. An American president who is wise with words and doesn’t go off on rant-filled tangents unrelated to anything.

  • stvnc44

There was this time when I had just had cable installed and did not yet know what all the numbers were for the channels I wanted to watch. I have discovered the SciFi and weather radar, I loved that circle 24/7.
Then one day I was changing channels and landed on Fox. I thought it was Comedy Central!
I made a note of the channel number, then later I found the real Comedy Central.
So I went back and looked at what was Fox News, OH PLEASE. I used parental control to block that poop,
mind you I live alone, but horror of horrors I would not want to accidentally see that again!

    Miss you so much 44.

  • Rich

Ugh, sorry, but his “let me say this…” drives me nuts.

STOP being nice. He needs to start saying what he really thinks and stop lawyering his responses. At this point in history, we need bluntness and honesty. You can be both outraged (and SHOW IT!) and eloquent at the same time.

    • Gianni

Barack is too classy to sink to Donnie’s level. Why should he deliberately make himself look like the same no-class trash we have in the WH now? He’s loved and respected for just the person he is – dignified, respectful, and with more self-control than Donnie Doofus could ever muster in all his 71 years.

      • Rich

You can be dignified and respectful while calling out the very real danger this nutjob is displaying to the world, to the US as a functioning democracy… the arc of history is being bent seriously back and he’s reacting as if it’s business-as-usual.
