Dem Senator Rages: I Just Got This 479-Page Tax Bill And I Can’t Even Read The Scribbled Changes [VIDEO]

Democratic Montana Sen. Jon Tester says he just got handed the 479-page tax and in a video just posted to Twitter, he rages that the bill even includes illegible “hand-scribbled policy changes.”

“This is unbelievable. We’re doing massive tax reform on an absolutely incredible timeline. This is going to affect everybody in this country. This is going to shift money from middle class families to the rich. We were given this 25 minutes ago, and we’re supposed to vote in a couple of hours.”

Remember when John McCain said this about the ACA Repeal? “I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will (affect) insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it. Without a full CBO score, which won’t be available by the end of the month, we won’t have reliable answers to any of those questions.” I guess he forgot.

    • Joseph Miceli

John McCain talks a good game, but every time it counts his candy-ass folds. It’s “party over country” every time, in spite of his “maverick” bullshit smokescreen.

      • John Kusters

When he refused to vote for ACA repeal, I think many of us hoped he had finally grown a spine, thinking that his medical prognosis may have freed him to actually *be* a maverick. Apparently not.

        • Like Lucy with the football. You thought this time would be different. I only is about once a decade. McCain’s maverick thing is all bullshit. The NY Times and other “liberal” outlets will suck any right wing cock that pretends to be sane every now and then and dismiss any liberal criticism no matter how valid. That’s what we’ve come to in America. Trump got a pass and Clinton got raked over the coals. The country is going down in flames.

      • netxtown

I sometimes wonder how many Dems were involved in saving his POW ass….

    • McCain does 1 decent thing every decade or so and then the mainstream media treats him like he’s the voice of reason. he’s not. He’s a right winger but not an idiot and he likes the good press. It’s so easy for a conservative to get good press from the NY Times. All you have to do is not foam at the mouth when you talk. Motherfuckers.

If this passes (I mean the reconciled version with the house)… and the Dems take over the House and Senate in 2018… can they just change all this to give favor to the middle class, put back the removed deductions for students, homebuyers/owners, and medical expenses, and reinstate higher rates for the wealthy? If Trump is told it *really* helps the middle class, and he has no chance of winning without it in 2020, he’ll sign it. If not, threaten to impeach him.

The conservative myth is that it was “rammed” through with no input by the GOP, even though they were responsible for additional amendments.

But these GOP blood-goblins are dead set on ramming it through anyway.

    • I’ve got my issues with Bernie, but I happen to agree with this completely:

      • Ross

        No, Bernie.

The Republicans will be looting from me. And all my friends.

        And from MOST taxpayers.

All to give the super-rich a tax break.

        And YOU helped create this.

        • LawdyB

You’re seriously trying to blame Bernie for this? He primaried just like Clinton did in ’06. She actually took it further than Bernie did. During the general, he campaigned for her. What more did you want?

Him to not have ran at all and for Clinton to be anointed without question? If you truly think that that is what kept her out of the Presidency, you haven’t been paying attention.

And you know he’s right saying Treasury. The Treasury’s money *is* our money. You’re just being pedantic and nit-picking because he had the audacity to say “Maybe she doesn’t have all the right ideas.”

You do know that the vast, vast majority of the ‘Bernie or busters’ on the internet were Russians trying to divide Democrats. Every time you blame Bernie, you’re playing into their hands.

          • Ross

What did I want from Bernie?

I wanted him to not LIE about Hillary.

He constantly accused her of being beholden to Wall Street. Yet, when asked on live TV to name a single example of HOW she was beholden, he could not answer.

Bernie constantly accused Hillary of not being progressive enough. WTF? Hillary fought hard for universal health care in the 1990s, and when she lost this epic PROGRESSIVE battle, she managed to create health care for 8 million children, a stunningly PROGRESSIVE achievement. Bernie has done nothing in his long legislative career which can even touch this.

Also, Hillary’s environmental program was FAR more progressive than Bernie’s, as were her programs for women and children. Did you ever read these? I did.

And what more did I want? I wanted Bernie to drop out when it was clear that he was not going to win the primary rather than attacking Hillary for months longer. I wanted Bernie, after losing the primary, to have enthusiastically endorsed and campaigned for Hillary rather than his actual halfhearted efforts.

And what more did I want? During the Democratic Convention, i wanted Bernie to STOP his supporters from disrupting the convention. I wanted Bernie to stop looking morose and pissed-off in every camera shot.

And what more do I still want? I want the fucking Bernie supporters I MEET ALL THE TIME to stop telling me Hillary stole the election from Bernie, and to stop telling me that Bernie was more progressive, and to stop telling me that Hillary was owned by Wall Street. These are not bots. These are people right in front of me.

I absolutely supported a Bernie run. I applaud anybody willing to run.

But I did not support Bernie jumping on the Democratic bandwagon, and then slamming the party and Hillary. Fuck him.

There is no question in my mind that Bernie is PART of the reason Hillary is not in the Oval Office today.

So, yes, Bernie helped create the current mess.

          • Ross
          • DCLXVI

          • MirrorMan

As I said. Reading. Comprehension. Re-read his post, and maybe you’ll get it. Not holding out hope. And important safety tip. We can hold out hope and work towards a more perfect union, deride and distract the ferret-wearing, cheeto-colored shitgibbon, and STILL be angry at, and deride the fucking purist idiots and Bernie-Bros and Stein-Bots that got us into this mess! And if that thought is something that is beyond you, something you just can’t get your damn head around, than perhaps commenting on blogs isn’t something your particular skill set lends itself to. No him to step down when he lost and not have such a negative campaign against her. And after he lost immediately told his supporters to vote for Clinton not sit vote for trump vote third party or write in his name or anyone else name. But did he do that NO! He left his supporters hanging when he lost poisoned the against Hillary and only stepped in when it was obvious trump could win. That was to late by then his supporters had decided on a third party trump or a write in option. And because of that and not helping Clinton dispel the fake news and in some cases spread it like false info about the Benghazi investigation and the email info. He helped trump get elected. Mark Shields on PBS Newshour says that taxpayers earning between $40,000 and $50,000 will pay $5.3 TRILLION more taxes through 2027 while those making more than $1 million will get a refund of $5.7 TRILLION. (video and transcript)
    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/shields-and-gerson-on-michael-flynns-russia-probe-cooperation-gops-tax-bill-calculation#transcript

Democratic leadership should be pounding these numbers into voters’ heads every time they are in front of a camera. Noun Verb $5 TRILLION tax increase.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

      It IS a TAX INCREASE

      • Lazycrockett

        except for the wealthy.

        • Stephen Elliot Phillips

It is exactly the same shit that happened in Europe for centuries. The peasants paid for the lavish lifestyles of the 1%

          • Ross

            Excellent analogy.

          • Tor

And we know how that ended…..France, Russia…

          • Cuberly Deux

            Yep, subsidized wealth.

        • Todd20036

          Actually, only the super wealthy.

I’m making about $110k a year. My net worth is about 1.3 million give or take.

Most people would consider me wealthy.

I’m nowhere near wealthy enough to benefit from Trump’s scheme

          • RaygunsGoZap

Call me when you’re net worth is $6 million? πŸ†πŸ•³

      • TimCA

For people who actually work for a living, a massive tax increase!

  • another_steve

This monstrous Republican Party would sign into law the deification of my dead mama’s decaying corpse, if their focus groups indicated that doing so would help their reelection chances next November.

I read this headline to the husband and he said, “oh, if the Democrats were in power, they’d be trying the same thing, you know it.” WTF!!! He’s never voted R in his life! Where the F did that come from??? I had to shut my mouth and keep watching Bake Off to not completely lose my shit!

    • In 2009, the Dems WERE in power. They had a near super-majority in the Senate.

They had every opportunity. They didn’t take them. Yeah, we got ACA, which did pass w/out GOP votes but which took months to draft and included dozens of GOP amendments.

The parties are not the same.

Not to mention we could have reshaped the courts and were too timid to do so.

Stimulus plan? You know, the one that saved the economy? Dodd-Frank? DADT repeal?

        • Every one of those was passed via ‘regular order’ in both houses.

If your husband were my husband…

…I’d be filing for divorce on Monday.

      I am serious.

I have reached my limit with stupidity.

      • Lizard

I find genoise sponge to be better for face-shoving, but tastes may vary.

    • netxtown

Chris…hubby is just wrong. Everybody knows that if the Dems were in power – they would stick their thumbs up their ass, do nothing, and wait to routed from power by a Rethug. Dems just can’t handle power or majority rule.

O/T I know I’m late but Happy First Day of Summer (it’s still December 1st here)!

  • Treant

So…where’s the spontaneous demonstration at the halls of Congress?

Didn’t think so. It’s pretty apparent that the American people just don’t care enough to get up and do anything. Not even those who live in the city. So it’s a very nice show.

    • I can’t get a flight from ABQ to DC on this short notice.

      • Treant

I’m going to excuse anybody not within spitting distance of the Capital, which still leaves millions of people.

    • SinfulJosh
      • Treant

No, I mean a real protest with actual packed audience and a real tangible threat of consequences to the lawmakers that isn’t shoved in the middle of one of Rachel’s interminable and hyperbolic speeches.

        • SinfulJosh

I’ll be sure to let those people know they weren’t really protesting . Thanks for the heads up.

          • Treant

            You’re so welcome.

Hey, act pissy, get pissy back. Deal.

    This thread so much.
Citizen’s United is one of the worst rulings to ever come from SCOTUS.

  • MikeBx2

    New thread. Tax reform vote.

  • houstonray

Joe has a new post up.

    • Lazycrockett

      damn

  • How is this legal? They are voting on a bill that they haven’t read and can’t possibly have read? They don’t even know what they are voting on? There aren’t any procedures that have to be followed? This isn’t a one page resolution naming a post office. This is a major tax reform bill. This is EVERYTHING the right claims (falsely) that Democrats do and here they are doing it bigger and bolder than any Democrat would ever have dared. What the fucking fuck!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

That was my first thought. Here in Canada, if any MP or Senator tried to pull a stunt like this, they’d be censured by the Speaker of the House and called to the Privy Council to explain WTF they were trying to do. In fact, it’s considered a serious breach of protocol to offer a bill that is not out of committee and intact; scribbled amendments are unacceptable and in fact can lead to suspension, dismissal/ejection from the House of Commons. As you say, how is this even legal? Shame…Shame…

      • bkmn

It literally has been so long since they were in charge that they don’t know how to do things. All they can do is follow the orders of their wealthiest donors – screw the little people DAMMIT!!!!

    • jamesparson

Many many laws are too big to read. Happens all the time.

      • I realize that often members of congress will parcel out sections of a bill to staff to read and summarize, but that didn’t happen in this case. No one read the fucking bill before it was voted on. Amendments were still being added hours before. No CBO score. No debate. Nothing.

        • jamesparson

          Good point

  • Kevin Andrews

This fiasco of “tax reform” is the price the Republican Fascist bastards are determined to exact from Main Street USA to keep their patrons happy. Just who do these bastards work for?
It is clear that these traitors do not work for We The People but only the treason of the Corporate Super-Person from the immaculate conception and virgin birth of the Roberts treasonous SCOTUS. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d8ecd08cf8cad57e4b096eeb506487b60d14d63b404727bdc5453f44bec5aec4.png

This is your reason to get out the vote and vote out the republicans in 2018.
Wonder why Republican and trump are so willing to hurt Puerto Rico so bad. Why they are decimating Puerto Rico by the new tax bill. could it be because their vote don’t count.
Residents of Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories do not have voting representation in the United States Congress, and are not entitled to electoral votes for President. … Puerto Rico is a territory under the sovereignty of the federal government, but is not part of any state nor is it a state itself.
Now let suggest they take this option before the next election.
Puerto Ricans who were born in Puerto Rico are American citizens as if they were born in the states. At 10% of the Latino population in the United States, Puerto Ricans are the second-largest Latino group nationwide, after Mexican-Americans, and are 1.5% of the entire population of the United States.
I welcome you into all states with mid term elections in 2018.Lets hit the republicans hard for this tax bill.

  • superindy

I cannot believe that this is even legal. Surely there is some law in your country that states that legislation must be put before legislators in a timely manner and legibly. It is like 3rd world country antics. Bizarre.
