MICHIGAN: Dem AG Candidate Causes Stir With Unique Promise Not To Commit Sexual Harassment [VIDEO]

Wonkette reports:

Meet Dana Nessel, a Democratic candidate for Michigan Attorney General. She’s a Detroit attorney who became Michigan-famous for leading the legal fight for marriage equality in the Great Lakes State (and in the Wolverine State, too). And as her pretty-damn-good online ad suggests, she has a good idea for reducing the amount of sexual harassment by icky men in high office: Get more women in office.

From Detroit’s ABC affiliate:

The ad flashed headlines behind her about sex scandals involving male politicians. “I will not sexually harass my staff, and I won’t tolerate it in your workplace either,” she said. Michigan Republicans said the ad exploited the sexual harassment crisis. “Sexual harassment is not a laughing matter,” said Sarah Anderson, communications director for the Michigan Republican Party. “In a crisis, a leader fights for what is right, they don’t exploit a crisis for personal gain.”

“In a crisis, a leader fights for what is right, they don’t exploit a crisis for personal gain.”

You mean like when governor snyder poisoned the people of flint in a piss poor attempt to save millions at the cost of at least hundreds of millions of dollars of damage to making the water of flint undrinkable and unusable. Creating a crisis because he created a panel to make these decisions that were not elected, and like republican fashion isn’t taking responsibility for his shit.

Now back on topic with sexual harassment, what is anderson’s take on baby huey and his mounting list of accusations of sexual assault. I’ll bet it is the same old same old. Party before country, ideology before morals, not that republicans have any to begin with.

  • AndyinChicago

There’s a great SNL sketch – a political ad parody – in which Will Ferrell promises there will be no sexual scandals if he’s elected … because he doesn’t have a penis.

  • Blake J Butler
  • Natty Enquirer

“Their” penis? I think this is one instance in which a gendered pronoun is acceptable.

    • JackNasty

Use of the word “their” with the singular “penis” also implies we all share one.

    Not guilty :

An undocumented immigrant from Mexico who was charged with the murder of Kate Steinle — a case that became a major rallying cry for President Trump on the campaign trail — was found not guilty in her 2015 death.

Breaking: Undocumented immigrant acquitted of murder (San Francisco, Kate Steinle case): stand by for TWITTER MELTDOWN!!!

FWIW, I think the case was pretty solid: this was a tragic ACCIDENT. You can’t “murder” someone via a ricochet!

    • BobSF_94117

Sure you can. If you’re intentionally shooting at them and happen to hit them with a ricochet, of course that’s murder. (That’s not what happened in this case, but the point remains.)

    • Ross

      It’s a curious thing.

The more I learned about Hillary over several decades the more I liked her.

      Initially, I liked Bernie.

Then I learned more about him. Then some more. And more.

      Today?

      I loathe Bernie.

      Curious.

      • Blake J Butler

I liked both initially at the very beginning, but Hillary was for me, a past of mine that sanders couldn’t amount to. something before i learned about his rabid supporters behavior threw me off and i didn’t like him, especially enough to support him. But i didn’t know what it was.

And then i later found out why. He’s an asshole like baby huey on the different part of the spectrum. Also the fact that his revolution is just a gated community, exclusive only for purists that meet his standards and kiss his ass.

        • Ninja0980

And he views our issues along with those of POC and women to be identity politics.
And he wonders why he was rejected by most of that base.

      • Ninja0980

I started to dislike him when he flat out lied about when he supported marriage equality etc.
The fact is that when the battle for marriage equality was going on in Vermont, Bernie was almost no where to be found and at one point, told same sex couples civil unions were the best they could hope for.
He “evolved” in 2009, which just happened to be when Vermont’s legislature passed marriage equality.
He of course portrayed a far rosier version of that, something Rachel Maddow among others pointed out.

      • JCF

Initially, I liked Bernie…as a Senator. Now, I switch channels whenever he’s on.

        • i wish we could talk about ideas and policy, and not celebrity and personalities. that’s what i learned from the most recent primaries.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada
  • Miji

I appreciate the pledge, and from a humor standpoint appreciate her approach, but I could see some people being put off by the implication that men are likely to expose themselves and commit sexual harassment just because they are men. Even many women were put off last year by the notion that they should vote for Hillary BECAUSE she was a woman. With the current political climate and coming out of 8 years of Republican rule during which Snyder abused democracy and poisoned Flint, I’m hopeful Michigan will be ready to take a turn to the left.

    • SoCalGal20

1 in 4 men don’t think exposing themselves constitutes sexual harassment, survey finds

      http://m.sfgate.com/news/article/what-is-sexual-harassment-definition-men-survey-12396184.php

      • Miji

Yes, I’ve seen the article already posted by others and am baffled by the number of people, men in particular, that clearly just don’t understand what constitutes sexual harassment. That said, I would say that I don’t think that because 25% of me don’t understand that exposing oneself to a coworker would be sexual harassment, they probably aren’t all going to do it.

To be clear, I didn’t say that men weren’t more likely to to sexually harass than women. I was simply commenting on the political expediency of framing it in quite the way it was done.

Christians should pray for Prince George [firstborn of Prince William and Kate] to be gay, says Church of England minister

    – Very Rev Kevin Holdsworth says C of E will be forced to support same-sex marriage if the ‘Lord blesses George with the love of a fine young gentleman’

But a renta-gob ‘former chaplain to the Queen, Rev Gavin Ashenden, has described the comments as “unkind” and “profoundly un-Christian”, and said the prayer is the “theological equivalent of the curse of the wicked fairy in one of the fairy tales”.

Is that because they think women should be flashing their tits everywhere? Would be ok with random dudes exposing themselves to their mom or sister?

      • Cuberly Deux

Ugh, when I worked in the Marina District, when they had the Union Street Fair. Packs of drunk frat-bros wandering the fair yelling for women to “show us your tits”.

I hated having to work those days….(shudder) was so gross. And sure enough it’d get a LOT worse as the day wore on and the drunks got drunker. Of course the fights would break out and the talk got considerably more raunchy.

    • BobSF_94117

Sexual harassment seems to have lost all connection to harassment.

      Harassment: to annoy persistently

Harassment: the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands.

Harassment: the act or an instance of harassing, or disturbing, pestering, or troubling repeatedly

I suspect that accounts for most of the 25%.

      • Cuberly Deux

Exposing oneself isn’t a form of harassment?

        • BobSF_94117

There’s no element of repetition in a single flashing. The whole point of harassment is the repetition.

I don’t know why people have to conflate things. It’s like flashing itself is suddenly not serious enough an offense that we have to call it something it isn’t just to make it seem bad. Flashing is flashing. It’s illegal. It can and should be punished. It isn’t sexual assault and it isn’t sexual harassment. It’s plenty bad all by itself.

          • Cuberly Deux
          • Treant

(tugs sleeves) You’re arguing two different things. Both of you are, within your context, entirely correct.

          • Cuberly Deux

I was just referring to the survey. But I do think whipping out your dick and presenting it to someone ain’t exactly kosher.

          • Treant

I noted above that I very strongly doubt this survey is correct. 1 in 4 is ridiculous.

          • OdieDenCO

donny’s base is 1 in 3. so a few have some morals

          • Treant

Naw, they’re playing you on this one. It’s like those cut scenes where they ask people basic questions. They go through hundreds of short interviews just to get 10 people who don’t know the answer, are having a bad brain day and fritzed, or didn’t hear the whole question.

          • Cuberly Deux

I f you read the article they sort of point out the problem with definitions. ie; between harassment and assault. Definitions were left up to the participants. Oh, it was an online survey too….there is that.

          • Treant

Yep. It’s worthless, but great clickbait and I’d personally check the funding for rubles.

          • Treant

OK, that does bring up a side argument. Is dick kosher?

I’m guessing so, as long as you don’t wrap cheese around it and remove it with your tongue.

          • BobSF_94117

Well, I think the survey is very badly designed. Of course, in the context of on-going sexual harassment, flashing would be considered yet another act of sexual harassment. But by itself, one act, by a stranger? If they want to think that, fine, but I don’t see how sloppiness in language is going to lead anywhere good.

          • Cuberly Deux

I agree the survey was badly worded. In fact the article mentions that. The definition wasn’t defined. Also, couldn’t some of what they’re asking be regarded as sexual assault?

          • BobSF_94117

Some of those things on that list are definitely sexual assault. Some are, depending on context. Some are not, again depending on context. And some are definitely not sexual assault.

My point is that one incident of indecent exposure, in and of itself, is not sexual harassment unless it’s part of a pattern of unwanted behavior of a sexual nature.

Look at “pushing against you in public transport”. A full 70% of women and 52% of men said that was “sexual harassment”. It’s absurd. Any random bus ride is a veritable orgy of sexual harassment. It’s a wonder they don’t shut it down. And don’t get me started on subways!

          • BobSF_94117

Most of the people answering seem to have taken the question as, “If someone is sexually harassing someone, check off the things on this list that that person might do”.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Actually, you have no right to make that determination, only the law and those affected can. Presumption is not a wise path.

          • BobSF_94117

Uh, the second definition, the one that emphasizes recurrence and persistence is the legal definition

      • Treant

The compound noun (not yet one word, sexualharassment, as it probably will be someday) and harassment are now divorced from each other.

But no, on any survey, you can count on about ten percent not understanding the question or not listening well enough and choosing the “wrong” answer randomly (which means 20% were actually that stupid).

I gotta agree with them on the “pushing up” thing in some cases. Crowded public transport means pushing up against somebody. And I can’t float around on public transport to find somebody of my own gender to keep the snowflake from melting. I’m as crushed as you are, deal with it, and don’t assume I give a shit that you’re female.

        • BobSF_94117

So, one day I was on the bus in SF. Being SF, the bus was painfully slow. As I cast my gaze about to find something to occupy the time, I happened to notice the lacework on the blouse of a young lady sitting near where I was standing. It was beautifully intricate. Unthinking, I just stared at it. She caught me and WAS NOT HAPPY. As GayOldLady would undoubtedly claim, the young lady KNEW I was sexually harassing her. Because that’s the only explanation. Anyway, I was speechless and embarrassed. I considered explaining, but I figured that she would have been even more offended if I had tried to explain.

          • Treant

Yeah, you didn’t intend it, she probably interpreted it, and under the current rules, you should get burned for it. Next time, get written permission to admire the pattern on the clothing she chose to wear, knowing it had an attractive pattern.

That relates to my argument of accepting some agency in your own actions and the resulting things that happen, but apparently I’m evil for even suggesting that one might be looked at if one wears an attractive pattern.

On the up side, I’m getting to block a whole bunch of people who think that you should have the responsibility of a toddler and the rights of a Queen. Good riddance to bad, and presumptive, rubbish.

(In retrospect, I’m rather glad I blocked GayOldLady; I never realized exactly how much of what she said was completely off base until I started thinking about it. That girl’s got a problem and she’s not coming off my block list, ever).

    • JCF

Seriously, it isn’t—w/ EXPRESS permission by NON-SUBORDINATES in ADVANCE. Now, if those prerequisites don’t kill your buzz, dudes, then have at it.

    • Treant

As I chew on it, I call foul. The questions aren’t listed on the click-through and, let’s face it, “1% of men don’t think…” isn’t going to get your survey group (who I’ve never heard of) any clicks or business.

So without a shocking answer, no article. Therefore, Steve and Sarah, go get me a shocking result on this poll…

It’s also entirely possible that they got trolled in their answers. Personally, I turn into a sarcastic pain in the ass (more than usual) when you ask me a completely stupid question. “Yeah, sure, I show my dick to every passing chick. It usually works, or they step on it as they go past.”

So…much more data required, and I’m putting this into the sandbox where it doesn’t get further analyzed because I suspect it’s useless.

the president of the MA senate, who is gay

    https://twitter.com/duhgurlz/status/936389586128736256

    • DaddyRay

Being gay we are held to a higher standard – this is just plain stupidity if true

    • SoCalGal20

It’s the husband of the Senate President whose been accused, correct?

      • Ninja0980

        Yes.

      • Sam_Handwich

but the accusations include talk of ‘political favors’ done by the senate president as a result of sex with the hubs

        • SoCalGal20

          Ugh.

        • Treant

Call me when they prove it. We’re in witch hunt territory and I now require citations on both side of the fence.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, when you pile on, I require greater proof because I’m aware that rabbit jobs will get submitted at times like these. Deal with it and cough up the photos.

          • Jerry Kott

I am waiting for the smoke to clear?

          • Treant

It should calm down the instant the Russians manage to get Moore into the Senate seat. By Christmas, the air will be completely clear, nothing will have significantly changed, and many of us will have set the burden of proof even higher on harassment because we really don’t like witch hunts or pile-ons, making it harder for the next one to be believed.

            Good job, mob. Good job.

          • Jerry Kott

Very, very disturbing times. Yet there is a creature in the WH who has been an admitted assaulter of women. Franken should stand his ground.

    • Treant

Wait a sec. So somebody’s spouse is now accused of it? That’s awful…but it has nothing to do with the politician in question.

      Next!

      • clay

        see: “Wiener, Anthony, husband of . . . “

K they want to remain anonymous cause they still need to work with Rosenberg, yet they give detailed accounts of when, where and how they were violated. That’s not very smart.

Advice to all queer and straight politicians and pop culture celebrities during this “sexual harassment frenzy” we’re living through: Masturbate only.

      There are many good sites.

      Google.

  • Treant

So…she’s telling us we really need to look at her record very, very carefully. Those who protest the loudest…

Or are we back to “Women are perfect and cannot commit sexual assault” again? I keep losing track of how I’m scum this time and whether I should be running north or south from the continuing witch hunt.

BS You googled “Asian character from gLee.”

      • safari

He can dance, act, and maybe sing. He was/is? in a show where he plays an immortal bisexual wizard who fell in love with the son of a ruling family of magical demon slayers.

Yes, heavy on the eye makeup, but his character is enjoyably flamboyant.

I think this ad sucks, and is bad for women and political discourse in general.

1 – supposedly against unwanted displaying of penises, while verbally conjuring exactly that imagery (with huge P-word yelling at me even) – gee thanks

2 – sexist, in the most idiotic & divisive possible way; also juvenile, in the style of Dumpy/pukes

    But above all

3 – ineffective. what good rhetoric there might be is buried in blather (and the stupid initial premise)

Dana Nessel, please fire your ad team. I have two words for your campaign, and any campaign that wants to win with a smart, grownup, dignified message & presentation:

    DANICA. ROEM.

    • sadoldguy

I agree. Young people enthusiastically talking about real world issues and solutions persuades voters and gets them to vote.

    • Michael R

I kind of agree with this . It really needs work .

    • Treant

Yep, she said nothing about what she wants to do, she merely reminds us she’s not a male. She could be whipping those hooters out and harassing every male within twenty miles for all I know.

#2: In the present climate, as a male, I’m insulted that an AG has implied I will whip out my penis and show it to her. Way to discriminate, Nessel.

It’s good she’s not local, I’d complain and not vote for her. I don’t vote for sexists who play identity politics against one gender. Even if that gender happens to be the unpopular one at the moment.

      • netxtown

      • gaycuckhubby

I don’t pretend to know the strings she’s trying to pull behind the scenes.. is she stalling? Covering for others? Trying to figure out who can sink the bill without being primaried? Angling for an amendment she wants?

        • Treant

Getting her payoff in place. They do this to throw discretionary funds–that they can then suckle off of–to their states.

It’s an invitation to bribery and nothing more, but she gets to play cutesy with the public by fucking us over a little more slowly.

If she can’t get the payoff she wants, she’ll vote no.

          • gaycuckhubby

Maybe. Thats how most politics (everywhere) works

          • Treant

Actually, the US is considered one of the most corrupt governments in the world. No pay, no play, and you can be outbid but still owe the money to not get what you want.

          • clay

Transparency International and other sources routinely place the US as moderately clean. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a6840cd4187dfc1f2b0c48b0d35b32b1e407a9cb6d6e07fc9646d3002ea27839.jpg

          • Treant

I really must disagree; some of those “corrupt” nations have an accepted and well-known bribe structure. Prices are moderate, bribes are calculable, and the final cost can be laid out. It’s a simple cost of doing business, and the total is quite reasonable.

Some of those countries are broken-down crapholes. I’m not talking about those.

In the US, you bribe your Senator but still owe him if somebody else bribes him better than you do. And you, personally, do not bribe your Senator because his fee structure is more than you could ever afford.

Lower-level employees are held to strict standards, but upper-level ones grift anything from five to eight figures per major transaction.

      • Dayglo

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/compost/wp/2017/11/30/why-alabamians-should-consider-eating-democrat-babies/?utm_term=.b093462c236b

“This practice is not without historical precedent. Yes, eating children is, today, considered taboo, but you have to remember that the Democrat is our enemy, and devouring the progeny of enemies is an ancient and time-honored tradition. If you are trying to feed your own growing family, you could not do better. Democrats are grass-fed, I think. Eat them now and grow strong on their meat, or watch them wither and die without a safety net later. Once they age and fail to receive health care, they will become stringy and unpalatable.

Most importantly, we must remember: Many Democrats support a right to
abortion. I can think of nothing more inhuman than terminating the life of a fetus. That is why we ought to eat them as infants. Once they are outside the womb, they are threats to the only true people: those still inside it.”

    • johncAtl

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve seen many occasions where a Republican referred to Democrats as “the enemy.” I’ve seen Democrats call Republicans many names like “ignorant,” “stupid,” etc. But I don’t see Democrats calling Republicans “the enemy.”

Thank you! The house is not actually livable yet, so I live 20 minutes away. I now have the main facade fully restored, and the other visible facade (the house is on a corner lot). The rear facade is now partially restored, too. The south facade is a terrifying disaster still, so that is the big 2018 project.

The house has sucked up my every penny and consumed my already overburdened life. But I love the house so don’t care.

Now…if I just had a husband to share it with…

I have had the house four years now.

I was just reading that the maximum sentence for what he was convicted of is 3 years. He’s already served 2.

      • safari

        How is that justice?

        • JCF

Serving 2/3rds of a sentence (or less) is pretty routine—I don’t see the problem.

      Winning.

Hell, that’s nothing. Once the GOP tax bill is passed we’ll be losing 100,000 jobs per day.

But think of the stock market

        • johncAtl

I do everyday since Trump took office. I’m wondering when is the right time to move my IRA/401K from stocks to cash.

      • Talisman

I know I’ll be losing my job within 5-7 years. But that’s because the company has decided to promote a newly-acquired product over our long-established one.

But also because our developers have gotten lazy, and refuse to actually play ball with the corporate overlords.

And if the dumpster has his way and destroys our regulatory apparatus, I expect my job will disappear sooner than later.

      juries are scary, hey?

    • gaycuckhubby

I must admit I haven’t heard much about this case, but looking at some of the facts from it today the verdict is a bit shocking. But that’s our justice system

      • Natty Enquirer

Then again, neither of us sat in the courtroom and saw and heard everything the jury did.

        • gaycuckhubby

          totally agree

      • Elston

Firearms accidents happen all the time. I think I recall a story just the other day in which 12 year old (or thereabouts) shot and killed as father during a “let’s get to know guns” session.

Prosecutors are notorious for overcharging and that is certainly part of the problems of this particular case.

      • JCF

[You can Google the exact numbers here] I think the shot hit concrete 12 feet away from the shooter, and ricochet’d something like 78 feet to hit Ms Steinle (RIP). You can’t remotely infer intent to kill her. At MOST, it was manslaughter—but in our age of “illegal alien” {cough brown person cough} hysteria, that’s not what he was charged with (though he was convicted of illegally possessing the gun).

You know that in ‘Merka, when a 3 year old shoots/kills a 2 year old, “Accidents Happen”, and *no one* is charged [Heavens No, Not Our Sacred Guns!] But insert brown person (w/ Spanish accent)—and white female victim—and suddenly, it’s Hang ‘Em High! Feh, to the hypocrisy.

    • Treant

(tugs sleeve and avoids tiny hand as it gropes for my crotch) Are you aware, sir, that the Executive branch really isn’t supposed to comment on or interfere with the Judicial branch in any way?

      • gaycuckhubby

Well that’s just not true. they can’t interfere, but they can certainly comment after a trial or court case. Obama did it routinely, albeit through a press release or a public address not via Twitter

        • Treant

I’m with Halou above; this is very specifically an attempt to put pressure on the judicial system in the future. Which is something Obama certainly never did.

(Although if you must know, I always think it tasteless and inappropriate for a President to pass any judgement on any trial that doesn’t involve him. If Dumpy chimed in on any theoretical trial of mine, there would be a public announcement of, “Mind your own fucking business, senile old dotard.”)

          • johncAtl

I will miss Kim Jong Un when Trump turns him (and 5-10 million others in Asia) to dust. “Dotard” is such a perfect word to describe the orange shitgibbon. (“Shitgibbon” is the other perfect word.)

          • Treant

Well, I won’t miss Kim Jong Un in the least. I feel bad for the millions of North Koreans who got nuked and the South Koreans who were then blown up.

But China will seize both and I’m sure they’ll make everything OK.

          • Tread

    • Blake J Butler

I’d rather kick out the white supremacists and let the undocumented stay, given they do the jobs that most poor white trash won’t do, thus the economy would collapse without their input, are the demographic of the future and it would be smart to get them citizenship and access to the ballot, oh wait, they’d mostly be democratic votes, we can’t have that.We must defend america’s white history, except that the country belonged to the natives that got fucked over and slaughtered over 70 million indigenous people.

Oh and his birth certificate was an apology from the condom factory. I forget cause it was more than one.

    • boobert

You have to serve on a jury to understand these decisions. It doesn’t matter what happens in the trial. You are asked very specific questions that the lawyers come up with, and must answer yes or no. There is no middle ground.

      • gaycuckhubby

Yeah, I question the prosecution more than the jury

        • Ninja0980

They overcharged and thus ended up with nothing.

          • gaycuckhubby

            Overcharged? Three years total?

          • Ninja0980

Last night I had a hard time sleeping because I was restless and my drugs didn’t work.

Tonight I’m just constantly, silently, screaming. I’m not trying to go to sleep yet. But, silent screaming.

    • Treant

I was seriously ticked earlier but after a few blocks and some seriously snarky replies to similarly snarky posts, I feel better.

Also, the fires I started earlier helped calm me down.

      • safari

I’ve been training my hundreds of dollars worth of smart lights to make it seem like my apartment is on fire. It hasn’t helped.

        • Treant

You need to start actual fires. I don’t recommend using your own apartment for this, but there are many other apartment buildings that simply need to be destroyed by the cleansing heat of the flames.

          • johncAtl

Hitchcock liked being subtle, like poison would be. In one of my favorite episodes a man wanted to kill his wife. He came up with a poison that could be put on milk bottles and would still be toxic even after cleaning. After a few random deaths he poisoned his wife the same way. He got away with it since there had been other deaths from poisoned milk bottles. To celebrate he sat down one morning and poured himself a glass of milk from the bottle that had just been delivered. Oops.

And yes, milk was delivered in bottles to homes many years ago. I’m not quite that old to remember it, but I’m close.

  • Ninja0980

O/T but my sister got a dog (black lab/beagle mix) and a cat (calico).
According to her, they seem to be getting along well but one thing is clear.
Molly(the lab) is not scared of Tia(cat) at all.
Thus, if they do end up in a dog cat reel on youtube, it won’t be a version of the you shall not pass.
Contrast that with my parent’s pets where their dog outweighs their cat by 45 pounds yet is terrified of her.
Pets are funny things, aren’t they?

    • Treant

They are. Our Casey, 25 pounds, tries to make friends with every passing animal. This includes foxes, rabbits and, regrettably, skunks.

Our Riley, 10 pounds, is an inveterate hunter of foxes, rabbits and, regrettably, skunks. He’s too small and too slow to catch them, but he’d totally be death on them if he could.

      • Ninja0980

We’ve had our fun with skunks over the years as well.
        Worst smell in the world.

        • Treant

Vinegar works way better than tomato juice, as we’ve found. Cheaper, too.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

Does tomato juice work to get rid of the odor or should you use baking soda along with liquid soap?

        • Treant

I find that vinegar works far better, and it’s cheaper, too. But post the initial neutralization, you end up washing the dog (and yourself as it settles into your pores too) several times before it even faintly becomes acceptable.

It’s one case where being further off neutral pH helps (hence the tomato juice or vinegar). So home made soap is perfect here as the pH sits around 9.5 to 10. Just remember to do a vinegar rinse on the dog and a good final water rinse afterward to pull the pH to the acidic side.

          • Skeptical_Inquirer

I don’t understand why getting blasted multiple times doesn’t scare them off skunks.

          • Treant

The vet explained it to me as dogs don’t generally like or dislike scents. They simply catalog them. They’re also not big on long-term memory, so they don’t remember the skunk sprayed them before strongly enough to override their hunting instinct.

So the dog isn’t reacting extremely negatively and it doesn’t get recorded permanently for that reason. They don’t like being covered in skunk scent, but that’s mostly because their prey can smell them from miles away at that point.

Observation partially confirms that; both dogs check out the same flowers in the gardens daily, and the soap rack that’s down near their noses. Neither seem to record well. But my scent is something the dogs enjoy and seek out, to the point of tending to lie down on any piece of discarded clothing–even if uncomfortable.

        • William

Iodine shampoo. They usually have it at the big box pet supply stores. Tomato juice doesn’t do anything but make your house look like a crime scene.

OT: Not surprising but still terrible. What a price fools are willing to pay to have their superior complex pandered to while all the while rich people are laughing at them for being so easy to puppeteer.

    http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-gop-social-security-20171130-story,amp.html

“Advocates for seniors and the middle class have been warning for weeks that the Republican drive to cut taxes for the wealthy is the prelude to a larger attack on Social Security and Medicare.

In a videotaped interview with two Politico reporters Wednesday, Sen. Marco Rubio
(R-Fla.) said the quiet parts out loud. Asked by interviewers Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman how to address the federal deficit, he replied: “We have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes to Social Security and Medicare for the future.”

And yet a disproportionate number of Social Security and Medicare recipients voted for Ryan and the Dotards.

We’re grinding onward toward 2018 and a devastating loss for Republicans if the memory of DJT doesn’t fade a bit. I seriously don’t think they can afford to have him around much longer, and they know Pence will sign the same bills with a lot less Tweeting and accidental nuking of allies.

Mind, I think a devastating loss is still in the cards; Dumpy won’t go down easily and he’ll spew toxins at everyone in sight.

To assume that women in a position of power can’t commit sexual harassment just because they dont have penises is ridiculous and cheapens the conversation. Well done!

    • safari

Perhaps they should rape more to make it equal.

      • MBear

Think that would help? How would that work?

        • safari

          Nope. And: Nope.

    • Treant

It doesn’t bode well for her prosecution of female-on-male abuse, sex crimes, or harassment, I’ll say that.

      • safari

Female-on-male sex crimes happen. I know friends that had that happen. But what MBear is proposing I find false on its face based upon many points of evidence.

        • safari

Probabilistic, of course. His point can stand. Rarely.

          • Treant

Once is too often, as I keep hearing.

Of course, statistically, most men don’t abuse women, so therefore (probabilistically), we can just ignore the few who do… 🙂

          • safari

I can chain about one, maybe two predicates at the moment.

          • MBear

I used to work in an industry that is 99.99% women. Ummm… sexual harassment occurs when women are the dominant gender too… Well, in my experience

          • safari

I believe you. In my field, it’s unsettling.

          • Treant

            Ding, ding, ding.

At least a lot of the feminist writers (Tepper and Tiptree, I’m particularly looking at you here) make the point of putting women on a pedestal.

Nope, they’re just as scummy as men are. Except the pedestal-placers in both genders, they’re worse.

Humans are humans. The fault lies not in our gender, but in the fact that we’re not descended from the bonobo-tendencies of the ur species, but instead more from the chimp side.

          • billbear1961

            Man is the demon ape.

EDIT: NEVER turn your back on it.

      • MBear

Id like to think that if we got to the point that women held more offices than men we would, as a culture, be advanced beyond the point that it is an issue.

        • safari

          One day. Not now.

          • MBear

Probably not in our lifetimes, alas

        • Treant

Doubtful, I should think; the power dynamic would shift and the issue would reverse itself. Women aren’t any more composed, classy, or anything else than men. They’re complaining because they’re the victims.

Invert the power structure and you’d rapidly find the women are the abusers and men are the victims. Look how fuckin’ pissy and trollish women get when you disagree with them…just like men. Statistically, they’re not better communicators than and don’t handle issues one jot better than men, and vice-versa.

A shared power structure would probably lead to the least number of issues spread over the largest population, but I wouldn’t count on that happening.

          • AmeriCanadian

My husband used to work as a waiter in a male strip club for women. The stories he can tell. The behavior of the women would put their male counterparts to shame.
