Roy Moore Campaign Rips “Piece Of Crap” Washington Post After Being Busted In Lie About His Accuser

The Washington Post reports:

Senate candidate Roy Moore’s campaign refused Wednesday to substantiate a key claim it made as part of an effort to raise doubts about one of the Alabama candidate’s accusers.

The campaign has claimed to have found documents that show Leigh Corfman lived more than a mile from the intersection where she said Moore picked her up for dates in 1979, when she was 14 and he was 32. She says he took her to his house and touched her inappropriately. Moore has denied knowing Corfman.

Corfman and her mother, Nancy, told The Washington Post that they lived at the time on Whittier Street in Gadsden, Ala., around the corner from Alcott Road and Riley Street, where Leigh says she met Moore.

Nancy Corfman said she kept that address from 1974 until February 1981, when she relocated with her new husband to a house on Dogwood Circle in Gadsden, which is about a mile away across a major thoroughfare. A police report about property theft published in the Gadsden Times on March 31, 1980, listed Nancy Corfman’s address on Whittier Street.

Here’s how the Moore campaign responded:

“The Washington Post is a worthless piece of crap that has gone out of its way to railroad Roy Moore. There is no need for anyone at the Washington Post to ever reach out to the Roy Moore campaign again because we will not respond to anyone from the Post now or in the future. Happy Thanksgiving.”

But the WaPo’s article in which it broke news of allegations against Charlie Rose was totally and utterly true, amirite?

    • another_steve

We’re living in an age of political tribalism and irrationality.

I grew up in the 1950s. I lived through the Nixon years. There was political horror then, for sure.

But always, there was the abiding sense of political rationality. The sense of political decency.

      No longer.

      • Helen Damnation™

Scariest world I’ve lived in, and I’m fucking old.

        • another_steve

          Thank you. This is new.

          Quite scary.

          • Richard, another Canuck

I’m worried that living in Vancouver, Kim Jung Un will aim at Seattle, but will be off by a degree or two and hit Vancouver. I have a full freezer and can cook up chicken soup on the BBQ.. I hope I’ll be OK here…..It is a scary time. I am also a child of the 50’s and can remember the drills of hiding under our desks. Scary then, scary now.

          • another_steve

Vancouver is a wonderful and welcoming city. Man and I have visited there.

In the 1950s, here in the states, we also practiced “preparing for the bomb.” Under our desks, hands over our heads, protecting…I dunno…our haircuts or something.

I had a crush on the boy at the desk next to mine. When we “ducked,” I’d hold his hand.

I was very androgynous as a youth.

The boys never minded me touching them.

          • Galvestonian

The nuns at our school required for all students to buy a can of Johnson’s Paste Wax ( in the orange can ) so that we could keep the area under our desks waxed and hand buffed. I think it meant less work for the janitor. They said that it reflected the radiation. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

          • another_steve

            Lol. “Reflected the radiation.”

In NYC, back in the 1950s, we had (I assume they’re still there) these magnificent old “New Deal Era” public school buildings. The classrooms had huge windows that required a special pole to open and close. Sunlight would pour in through them.

I assume schools built today are more or less sterile-looking boxes. Classrooms designed for computer technology.

            Maybe I’m wrong.

            I hope I’m wrong.

Ever watch the movie “the core”. Great movie btw. We have technology now to prevent that.

          • Sporkfighter

That would take a detailed plan, excavation and installation of a nuke in just the right spot. An above-ground nuke within a few dozen miles would transfer very little energy miles below the surface compared to a moderate earthquake.

Nukes release a lot of energy on our scale, but our scale is measured against a 100 mile thick shell on an 8,000 mile sphere. We can’t do much to the planet as a whole, but we can wreck havoc within that 100 mile thick shell we inhabit.

I’d suggest the Post do exactly what the disgraced ex-judge yells: stop the interviews with Moore surrogates and just report on the race. If the opposition offers the Post more opportunities for news, those events should be reported. In other words, if the child diddler doesn’t want you to talk to him, honor its wishes. If his honorable opponent cares to give you a news release or an interview, publish it. I’d be good with that.

          • another_steve

Chris, I think you overestimate the average GOP woman today.

          • Lizard

At least the LCRs seem to be a minority. Fucking 53% of white women voted for Trump.

I mean, that’s about the same proportion of white women the Republican ballot usually gets. But for TRUMP? The confessed serial groper?! WTAF?!

          • ColdCountry

I hear ya! I’m a straight white woman and don’t know one woman who voted for Dump. (Come to think of it, I don’t know anyone who voted for Dump, but that’s another thing.) So where do all these crazy bitches live?

          • Galvestonian

I think that those women who voted for Trump – a goodly part of them anyway – educated, middle to upper class and secure in their homes and in a good church going social standing voted for the bank account and the security of their investments in the stock market. They probably come from staunch Republican families whose voting records as Republicans goes back decades whose fathers and grandfathers. Voting Republican is ingrained – it’s what they do and their friends do, too. They possibly find Trump distasteful but believe that the Party will handle him.

Sorry lady. No way is Trump interested in you.

          • Sporkfighter

            Ewwww!

          • zhera

I know of two such women. I removed them from my life after the election. The reasoning behind their vote is anti-abortion, God, and Dems are evil.

They’d vote for the Devil himself, if a) he claimed to be anti-abortion, and b) he existed.

          • Christian1234567

I know some women who voted for Trump. They deflected back to what Bill Clinton did (consensual sex with an adult woman) when I brought up the Access Hollywood tape. I pointed out that Bill Clinton wasn’t running for president again, and then then changed the subject to her emails, to weird claims that people who oppose the Clintons are murdered, etc. etc.
It’s useless to try to reason with them. Reason was not a part of their choice to vote for Trump.

          • jonfromcalifornia

Actually, haven’t you seen the Evangelical women defending Moore, equating voting for him to voting for God? Evangelical women are as dumb as their men.

          • Christian1234567

The evangelicals I know attend churches that bear a resemblance to cults. One must think a certain way, act a certain way, do certain things (like vote R), etc. They look to their leaders like the leaders are gods. Thus, when told to vote for Trump or Moore, they believe they are doing what their god wants them to do. They truly believe that Democrats are evil people who want to steal their money, take away their rights, etc.
It’s also about bigotry. They adore anyone who shares the same prejudices.
I also agree with you that it’s about them choosing ignorance and lacking critical (or sometimes any) thinking skills.

          • Steven Jaeger

I’ve dealt with family members. These groups are cults built on VERY specific requirements, toe the line or get tossed out. To these people, getting tossed is losing their souls’ ride to heaven. They will toe the line EVERY time. They value conformity over critical thinking if it gets them to heaven.

          • ColdCountry

            Brainwashed.

This is one side of the “purist” streak that lost us the election and gave it to the Nazis. Without the countervailing addition of a strong dose of pragmatism and realism, it will continue to spell disaster for the country.

    • boobert

This is silly. They could find 100 women to repeat these accusations with not an ounce of truth. I hope Franken responds accordingly. Nothing like the cases against moore.

    • Yixing’s Fluffer

Good. The theory of “my enemy is bad therefore I’ll tolerate whatever” is exactly how the GOP devolved from Eisenhower to Trump.

So who would be in the running to replace Franken should he resign ?

Funny how no one’s giving Moore the benefit of the doubt.

Seriously, even if he’s our guy – four women coming out with allegations suggests that maybe… maybe he likes to grope people and that’s not acceptable. I was more than a little pissed off at how ‘we should believe the accusers’ seem to stop when it comes to Franken.

I’m angry and frustrated that someone who had been powerful side is turning out to be a total scum.

I’m also angry seeing the rank hypocrisy in men who were all for calling out the sexual abusers in Hollywood and Politics, but once someone points a finger at their guy, suddenly the women aren’t credible. 2016 and 2017 has been an ugly year to realize how many men who claim be liberal are willing to throw women under the bus.

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Hey hey. Total scum is answering the door of ur office nude and forcing a woman to interview with u while u masturbate.
Total scum is being such a kiddy diddler you are banned from the mall.
Total scum is raping your own wife.
Frankly franken really isnt in the above catagory. However, im really sorry he did what he did and he has totally compromised his integrity and moral authority

          • Ross

None of know what Franken did.

All we know is that four women have made accusations. Personally, I do not find the first two credible.

          • JDS

Why is he total scum now? Have all the allegations proven to be true yet? No. In my opinion this is politics trying to take down a good Senator.

          • JT

“is turning out to be a total scum”

You might try being a little more temperate in your wild accusations.

          • johncAtl

I’m not saying that Al is innocent because I don’t know. But I know that the right will stop at nothing to hold onto that Senate seat in Alabama. Franken’s initial response to the first allegation was to have a Senate investigation. If they do and the evidence is that he’s guilty then he’s done. I haven’t seen Moore invite anyone to do a formal investigation into the allegations against him.

          • Ross

The Moore accusers seem highly credible.

The first two Franken accusers do not.

I don’t know enough about the Franken accusers #3 and #4 to comment. I also think there is a huge difference between inappropriate behavior and sexual abuse.

          • robindaybird

THIS! THIS IS WHAT IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM IS!

“It’s not as bad as X did, it’s not scummy!” Bullshit, grabbing anyone without consent is scummy, low-grade scummy but still sleazy, scummy, and not what anyone in a position of power should ever do.

“I don’t find his accusers credible” And why only his? Because they vote Republican? Because you actually like the guy being accused? Bull fucking hockey.

To talk like this shows only the concern of a woman’s accusation if it is politically convenient. It is hard enough for women to come forward, more so when they realize their suppose allies will not believe them if they accuse the “Wrong person”

          • Ross

A good friend of mine had his life nearly destroyed by a woman.

He had worked for her, and hugely built up her business. When he quit to start his own business, she went ballistic. She called the police and accused him of raping her.

This was absurd as he was gay.

Yet, for six months though the woman did everything she could to destroy my friend’s new company. Then she melted down, and admitted she made the whole thing up.

My friend gained 40 pounds during all this and I had to talk him out of suicide.

And during divorces, it is well known that both husbands and wives often viciously accuse the other of X heinous deed.

So, no, I do not knee-jerk accept accusations.

          • robindaybird

I’m sorry for your friend, but statistically false allegations is the same as any other crime, but you don’t see false burglaries or fraud get the level of scrutiny sexual abuse, harassment and rape get, and the victims of such crimes are often treated with a presumption that they are lying or hysterical, no other crime victim get this kind of treatment.

So yes, what happened to your friend is terrible, but that is no excuse to treat those who bring accusations as potential liars and monsters.

You may not mean it, but this “But – Franken surely didn’t! I don’t think the women are credible!” sends a message loud and clear: “We’ll believe you only if you accuse a Republican or Celebrity. If you accuse a Democratic leader, you are a lying harpy unless you got video tapes of the incident.”

          • Ross

            Weinstein is a liberal.

I find the many accusations against him to be credible.

I think Spacey is a liberal, too. I also find the many accusations against him to be credible.

And their alleged actions are disgusting.

My response to the Franken allegations is different. I just do not find the first two accusers to be credible. And the first accuser is seen in images grabbing male asses.

The #3 and #4 accusers state Franken quickly grabbed their asses. Sorry, but I don’t think this is sexual abuse. I think it is inappropriate behavior. Even the HuffPost article uses the word inappropriate.

In my youth both men and woman frequently grabbed my ass. I thought nothing of it. And I, while drunk at parties, would grab back. We all would laugh. To me, this is just silliness and a vastly different thing than what Trump bragged about, and what Moore/Weinstein/Spacey are accused of.

Oh, and I would be thrilled if anybody grabbed my now sixty-year-old ass.

Having not seen the newest charges laid out against Franken, and it being too soon to have full data on them, I’ll keep my mouth shut there.

The first one? Absolute bullshit. Partisan bullshit. And I’d check for somebody calling her Comrade and convincing her to bring charges.

The second one? Nearly as laughable, but at least it had a tiny veneer of not being a piece of crap. Still, it was a piece of crap.

So now the bar is set pretty high because, frankly, the first two told us that Franken is a chosen target.

          • Ross

            My thoughts exactly.

          • If someone grabbed my ass I’d think they were going for my wallet, not that there is much to get.

          • netxtown

If someone grabbed my ass – I would quickly turn the other cheek!

          • DonnaLee

Right, so much which has been said about Franken has not been backed up by anyone else, and #1 seems clearly to be pushing an agenda. Many of Moore’s accusers mentioned things to others at the time, same with Weinstein’s. Not one word has ever been heard about Al…until oh-so-conveniently, the Republicans need to put another ‘R’ in the Senate.

          • Treant

“I’m sorry for your friend, but” No, you’re not, or the but wouldn’t be there.

“you don’t see false burglaries or fraud get the level of scrutiny sexual abuse, harassment and rape get,” Because people don’t go for those accusations when trying to damage somebody else; they’re too easy to disprove. Although when they are made, said perpetrator will generally get arrested. Mostly, people who accuse others wrongly of sex crimes get to walk.

“So yes, what happened to your friend is terrible, but” No, you don’t think that because there’s that but again.

“that is no excuse to treat those who bring accusations as potential liars and monsters.” Actually, since the perpetrator is innocent until proven guilty, defense is going to do just that. But I’m sure you think being able to fully defend yourself against charges is bad as well.

          • johncAtl

And after divorces too. One of my closest friends got put in
jail multiple times by accusations made by his ex-wife and her new husband. The last time they went to the police and lied he spent six weeks in jail. He got out when he went before a judge for the third time, and she looked at the evidence and said there’s nothing here. His only solace is that Karma got her, and her new (now divorced) husband, as they both went to jail multiple times. He’s now living in another state and doing quite well. She’s still trying to scam people out of money.

          • Galvestonian

I certainly hope to God that he sued that bitch out of existence.

          • JT

“To talk like this shows only the concern of a woman’s accusation if it is politically convenient.”

It shows nothing of the kind.

          • netxtown

Ross – that’s a damned good point. I think Franken got carried away with some bad humor. It probably seemed funny at the time, and the humor was done at someone’s expense – but that is not “sexual abuse”. I don’t believe his intent was about sex.

          • JCF

            See re marshlc’s word “if”.

But Franken’s already shown hideously poor judgment, w/ that (self-confessed) photograph. It’s looking worse and worse for Al: that’s inarguable.

        • SoCalGal20

He’s apparently a serial groper. At the very least he needs to be censured but, honestly, he’s probably going to end up having to resign.

What’s the process in MN if he resigns?

          • Ninja0980

A Democrat will be appointed to his seat and at some point a special election will be held to finish the rest of his term.

      • popebuck1

Word is there’s a deep Democratic bench in Minnesota. Including some very promising women, which would be a refreshing change on many levels. I would hate to lose Al over this, but it’s not like they don’t have replacements.

      • J Ascher

At least Minnesota has a Democratic governor, so the seat is safely in Democratic hands. I’d wager it’s safe even for a special election.

    • boobert

      Ugh. *sigh*

    • charemor

You are probably correct, but the GOP sexual assholes will remain in office.

    • Ross

The first two accusers are Republicans.

And this, to me, wholly discredits them because I think all Republicans are liars and unable to understand reality.

      I am serious.

The third accuser states she is a liberal. I would need confirmation.

The fourth accuser I do not know about.

#3 and #4 claim Franken grabbed their butts. If this is true (and how would anybody know?) Franken should apologize. I don’t think he should resign.

What Franken has been accused of PALES in comparison to the Trump accusations, Moore, Weinstein, and others. The former is, IMO, inappropriate behavior; the latter is sexual abuse.

It disappoints me that so many here on JMG are willing to throw Franken under the bus STAT.

      • JDS

The world is going to shit.

      • DonnaLee

Ass-slapping or grabbing can be playful and fun. Making such a thing the same level as what Moore has done is false equivalency to a ridiculous degree.

      • lymis

There is a difference between putting Franken first in line to be thrown under the bus while ignoring the worse actions of others, and saying that there’s no excuse for anyone to have done these things.

It’s the difference between acknowledging that what those others have done is worse and giving Franken a pass of some sort.

I agree that an apology is the appropriate response in a lot of cases. It’s probably the right response when the person was a professional comedian at the time, as opposed to an elected official or person in power or authority in business.

    • Gigi

      FUCK!

    • TheManicMechanic

Franken had the right approach early on by saying there will be investigations of all accusations. False accusers will not want to be put under a microscope, especially if it uncovers even more shenanigans, leading to Franken being able to turn the tables on those accusers. This is likely happening by having people on Trump’s side digging as far as they can into the past and looking for those that can be made into somewhat credible accusers. This can all come apart under real scrutiny. The same scrutiny also has the ability to prove Franken did indeed act inappropriately.

      • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

        “Trump’s people.”

        Russians.

    • netxtown

“Inappropriate touching”. Give me a fucking break. There is a huge, huge difference between sexual advance, and sexual abuse, and sexual harassment. We’ve let this turn so completely out of whack that no one is innocent. It’s only a matter of time now before the fly back hits.

OT: A tiny bit o’ good news.

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nation-world/ct-richard-spencer-kicked-off-farm-20171121-story.html

“A weekend conference organized by white nationalist Richard Spencer was shut down after the owners of the Maryland farm he rented discovered he was behind the event.

The think tank that Spencer leads, the National Policy Institute, hosted the conference for about 100 people at Rocklands Farm, a winery and events venue outside Washington in Montgomery County. Spencer said in an interview that a third-party logistics company contacted Rocklands Farm on behalf of the National Policy Institute this month and didn’t reveal that white nationalists were affiliated with the event when they booked it. The company told the farm’s management only that it was a “corporate” gathering, according to Spencer.

The conference started about 11 a.m. Sunday and was scheduled to continue until 8 p.m. Caterers at Rocklands Farm served brunch, and participants recapped 2017. At about 4 p.m., Spencer said, someone working the event learned that Spencer was there, and management told everyone to leave.”

OT: Wonder if Thiel was aware of this, my guess would be, yup.

“Before Peter Thiel invested, research on herpes vaccine began in US hotel rooms”
“Latest revelation plunges dubious vaccine research further into scandal.”

“…that researcher, the late Dr. William Halford of Southern Illinois University, administered shots to at least eight people with herpes in 2013. Without any federal or institutional approval or oversight, he administered the shots himself in rooms at a Holiday Inn Express and a Crowne Plaza Hotel within a short drive from SIU. Halford, who passed away from cancer in June of this year, was a microbiologist, not a physician.”

“Several people who received the vaccine have since complained to the FDA and SIU, reporting potential side effects. Those include large, painful rashes and becoming infected with a strain of herpes different from their initial infection.”

This should be considered a felony like assault. And he should also be sucked dry of his $$$ as well.

I will say that it boggles my mind that people accepted this type of thing happening in a hotel room instead of a clinic/hospital. Depending on the hotel room/chain, it’s not any cleaner than, say, a storage unit.

      • Cuberly Deux

The thing that popped in my head was, who pitched this to Thiel and what evidence were they providing to entice him onboard? I realize he’s an anti-gov nutcase, maybe that’s all the enticement he needed, but still.

There has to be more people involved in this besides the loony microbiologist.

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

I think Thiel and many men like him may be very good at one narrow thing but then assume they’re good at EVERYTHING even things far outside their specialty.

I can only imagine that the microbiologist pitched it in a way that really appealed to Thiel. He probably told him that if this worked, he’d be even richer than he is now and that he’d be super famous in a good way for funding this and say that conventional medical industry was holding him back. However, how did he get that first meeting? Not sure.

          • Cuberly Deux

I sorta look at them like really annoying fading rock stars. The libertarian thing grows and grows because these idjits are obsessed with their messianic self-interest, of course not every investment will be a gazillion dollar success so it’s a heck of a lot easier to blame someone else. With libertarians it’s the government getting in the way of their magnificence.

OT: Trump refuses to help Flynn with money to pay legal fees so that pretty much means he knows Flynn is helping Mueller.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Wasn’t it Moore’s attorney in his press statement on the Corfman address where he told the press to “do their research” and they would “find the truth”? So why is the Moore campaign whinning about what the press found when they followed the suggestion of Moore’s own lawyer?! I mean they should be pissed at the lawyer for this mess, it was his suggestion.

Also, it seems a little poorly reasearched, by the lawyer, to not find dates of residency. I think I would be looking for a new lawyer, this one is incompitant!

  • Ninja0980

Have to be honest..does anyone else fear that at some point this Metoo thing is going to blow up in our faces?
Don’t get me wrong, it is long overdue that these predators get what is coming to them and that sexual assault/harassment is finally being taken seriously and that victims are feeling power in telling their stories.
But at some point, someone IS going to make a false accusation and when that happens, we’ll go back to square one like after the Duke Lacrosse case.
Am I being weird in that fear?

    • DaddyRay

I am very worried about that because of what that will do to legitimate victims. I also fear Republicans will weaponize this because it is all one persons word against another and they may use it to take out some of our strongest talent on the Democratic side

      • Scott MB

Trust me there is no one safe in the House or Senate. Soon we will be down to bare bones in both. Everyone has skeletons and everyone is shitting themselves.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

It’s already starting. Between the Russians and the GOP operatives, some very dubious claims are beginning to surface. Sadly, the damage this will ultimately do to actual victims will be staggering. As DaddyRay notes, they’re already weaponizing the MeToo campaign.

      • Ninja0980

Yup, like the woman who accused Richard Blumenthal who turned out to be a bot.

    • Scott MB

It happened in the 80s with the child moleststion witch hunts. Don’t get me wrong pedos need to be put away, however the fever in that era was so toxic and no child ever lies about that subject. That lead to people being falsley accused and lives ruined. It was mainly due to the adukts with agendas to get what they needed from the kids no matter what, but the basics are still there.

It is going to happen and that only makes it harder for the real women that are actual victims.

    • Lazycrockett

The problem is the GOP is gonna handle this a whole different way than the DEMS will, and thus the DEMS will be hurt more.

      • Ninja0980

        Yup.
You can bet any Republican in a state with a Democratic governor will be staying put no matter what.
Not going to be the same if it’s the other way around.

    • gaycuckhubby

I’m fascinated by how it’s going to change gay culture, if at all… women are calling out straight men on creepy, harassing behavior that is pretty common with gay men. And we’re on the sidelines trying to be supportive and wondering what it means for us.

Is it time for a change in our expectations of each other when it comes to sex and boundaries? What does equality mean?

      • Ross

In the early 1980s I was in a gay bar.

A guy came in with several friends, and he stood next to me.

Great ass. So I grabbed it. Wow. GREAT ass.

He instantly turned to me, and with an angry look on his face. “Do you think grabbing my ass is appropriate?”

I was startled by this. He really did seem upset. But, I nonetheless responded: “Well…with such a great ass? Yes.”

He said something to his friends, and they all left.

        I shrugged. Oh well.

Five minutes later he returned. Alone. And stood right next to me.

        And he grabbed my ass.

Fifteen minutes later we were in his bed.

I am pleased to report that a good time was had by all.

        • gaycuckhubby

So, do straight men deserve the same sexual liberation?

          • Silver Badger

Only after they successfully attend conversion therapy to become gay.

          • BobSF_94117

I’m totally OK with straight men grabbing each other’s asses.

        • Silver Badger

I remember one sexual harassment seminar we were told that men didn’t complain much about sexual harassment because they rather liked it.

        • Silver Badger

          Sweet memory. Sigh.

        • gaycuckhubby

So, different rules for gay and straight?

Str8 people dont get to tell us how to act and we dont get to tell them how to act?

          • Ross

It is not about different rules.

It is about understanding that not all things are absolute.

Quickly grabbing an ass can sometimes be OK. Sometimes it is inappropriate. And sometimes it can be abuse.

Every female friend of mine has grabbed a male ass at some point. And they, in return, have had their asses grabbed. They report thinking this was all just silly fun.

But several female friends of mine have also experienced sexual abuse. And I was sexually abused at the age of six by my fundamentalist Christian grandmother.

My point is that there should be distinctions between silliness, inappropriate behavior, and abuse.

    • gaycuckhubby

The woman threatened to make pics and vids public and admitted it was a consensual affair. He said he would report her to the Capitol Police if she didn’t stop. That is the appropriate thing to do.

      • Dreaming Vertebrate

        She was blackmailing him?

        • gaycuckhubby
        • SoCalGal20

The woman described encounters and contact spanning a five-year period that began online after she posted a message on Barton’s Facebook page in 2011, leading to the sexually explicit exchanges and ultimately a pair of physical sexual encounters in Washington and Texas. Over time, she said, she became aware of and corresponded with multiple other women who engaged in relationships with Barton, who represents a suburban Dallas district and is one of the most senior Republicans in the House.

In the 2015 phone call, Barton confronted the woman over her communications with the other women, including her decision to share explicit materials he had sent. In that context, he mentioned the Capitol Police, a comment the woman interpreted as an attempt to intimidate her.

“I want your word that this ends,” he said, according to the recording, adding: “I will be completely straight with you. I am ready if I have to, I don’t want to, but I should take all this crap to the Capitol Hill Police and have them launch an investigation. And if I do that, that hurts me potentially big time.”

          • gaycuckhubby

Yeah, she was engaging in sharing revenge porn

          • SoCalGal20

It remains to be seen if there’s a revenge porn case here. Right now it’s he said/she said. I look forward to the ethics investigation. Or maybe some of the other women he had relationships with are going to start talking.

          • gaycuckhubby

“A former business associate of Michael Flynn has become a subject of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation for his role in the failure of Flynn’s former lobbying firm to disclose its work on behalf of foreign governments, three sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News.

Federal investigators are zeroing in on Bijan Kian, an Iranian-American who was a partner at the now-dissolved Flynn Intel Group, and have questioned multiple witnesses in recent weeks about his lobbying work on behalf of Turkey. The grand jury convened for the investigation will soon have a chance to question some of those witnesses, the sources say.”

The internet has changed the world. Put multiple layers of duct tape over the camera on your computer, and over the entire front of your microwave just to be safe. And beat your cell phone to death with the heaviest brick you can pick up. Then never leave home again.

        • Treant

He was a Democrat, so no, they were totally fair and legal released images that the public needed to see. If he’d been a Republican, however…

Expect to see some really dubious “revenge porn” laws pass that, strangely, seem to protect old Republican guys more than anybody else.

      • Treant

And yet this seems so vanilla when you compare it to Moore.

        • clay

          that’s because it is

          • Treant

True, but last month, I’d probably have been slightly cynically shocked. Today, it’s just, “Meh, I don’t care, sweep him out with the trash and move on.”

All of you loved her when she was lying for Hillary. Funny how you all turn on her after she spilled the beans about rigging the primaries.

    • Blake J Butler

      Interesting bit to read.

Oh and Donna can go fuck herself.

  • Sam_Handwich

i was hoping for Mueller indictments today, but all we got is an overdose of Joe Barton’s pud.

    #HappyThanksgiving.

    • johncAtl

Any small amount of Barton is an overdose. And Happy Thanksgiving.

    • Treant

No way. Release of indictments might be all partisany and wrong and shit and people like Manafort have to spend time with their families and we’d have to let them out of jail and stuff.

(I’m swinging back to “this investigation is a farce” as time ticks on with absolutely no action not reaching the barrier of the Statute of Limitations. As we get into 2018, people will be screaming that it’s influencing the elections if it happens, so it probably won’t happen and we’re now looking at 2019…)

      • Sam_Handwich

i understand your skepticism, but i’m giving it to about March until i turn.

        • Treant

          See ya in March. 🙂

Wait. By spring I’ll be unremittingly bleak and cheerless about it as well.

      • billbear1961

They didn’t give a damn WHAT or WHO interfered with the 2016 election, DID they? And this INVESTIGATION is 100% fully JUSTIFIED.

The Rule of Law DEMANDS it!

It continues, or this vile, illegitimate regime grinds to a halt NOW!!

        • Treant

Actually, I suspect that the investigation grinds to an effective halt by the regime. I’ve wondered since Trump has made absolutely no move to dismiss Mueller, we merely heard a report that he was asking about it and that may or may not be accurate.

          • billbear1961

Americans let that happen, and they DESERVE to lose their democracy.

I despise this goddamned evil JOKE of a country!

      • Treant

Maybe, but Thanksgiving matters just a little less.

Seriously. It’s basically the opening salvo of the “Christmas” season.

        • johncAtl

Crap! For years I thought it was the opening salvo of the “drinking season.”

Well, as Rick Perry would say, “oops.”

Now excuse me while I go refill my wine glass.

          • Treant

Oh, that too. For those of us to whom the entire season is a never-ending grind of false cheer, fake concern, religious indoctrination, and so on, drinking is the only way one can get through it.

Alas, as noted, alcohol cannot cross my lips. So I just suck enormous amounts of dick.

          • johncAtl

            Oh my … “enormous.”

I’ll have to start saying “no, I don’t drink … but I do swallow.”

…And those are the major Democratic forces on the planet, and the ones that tend to help hold the whole world stable. Of them all, France is in the best shape, but she can’t do this alone and she is somewhat weakened….

And you’ve proven that you are really rather rude.

          • johncAtl

No, I just point out facts. You voted for Stein so you have to accept blame for the mess that Trump and the Republicans in Congress are creating.

Let’s see … “Green Party,” does that imply a concern about the environment? Tell me all the good things that have happened from an environmental perspective since Trump took office.

          • I love dim sum

No, you need to take responsibility for forcing a deeply corrupt sociopathic liar for a candidate on us. Trump is your fault. I’ll still be voting green in 2018 and 2020 since the dnc is just a 2nd republican party. You are just brainwashed.

          • johncAtl

            You’re wrong again.

While you’re whining about Hillary the Republicans are quietly confirming lifetime federal judicial appointments all over the country. In 2020, 2024, 2028 it wouldn’t matter if a Green Party nominee is elected President. The courts will be stacked to lean right for the next fifty years.

Do you honestly think Hillary would have appointed judges that lean to the right? And do you realize those vacancies on the courts exist because the Republicans wouldn’t allow votes on Obama’s nominees?

Wrung out. Read Mel Tormé’s memoir of that show, The other side of the rainbow: With Judy Garland on the dawn patrol. She had been into substances but the JFK show was something she wanted to do, and the network brass wouldn’t, so she somehow managed to pull off this one number, which, according to Tormé, had the audience and crew in tears. Top of her form, according to him, that night.

One of the A.C. casinos had a JFK exhibit, with artifacts from his life which were collected by his secretary, Evelyn Lincoln.
      I went to see it.
There were several hundred pieces on display, including the typewriter on which he wrote letters to Eva Braun, while he was serving in the South Pacific…
…but the items that were the most shocking were pieces of the limousine’s upholstery and a letter that Evelyn had in her handbag that day…
…all of which were stained with his blood.
(She had taken Jackie’s bloody gloves from her and put them in her own handbag. The accompanying card, in her handwriting, stated: My beloved President’s blood.)
While I struggle with whether displaying these items was in poor taste, I’m thankful to have seen them.

Not good, but it’ll go to court immediately. Civil rights are, as ruled over and over again, civil rights and may not be curtailed by any official agency…including the schools.

It’s one of the reasons that the voucher program is so heavily pushed by right-wing forces. With a veneer of “private” around them, they’re far more free to oppress rights and kick you out for stuff like being gay.

The ultimate goal is to establish an educated ruling class while the rest of us are taught to read the buttons on our displays and not much else.

      • William

You would have to cancel all reality programming. Cutting off all cable tv might do it.

      • I think we need to concentrate on taking back Congress next year. But for now if we get the Alabama Senate Seat on December 12 (possible!) , that basically stops Trump’s agenda in the Senate for the next year when it comes to taxes, screwing up the ACA even more — the Republican majority is 51-49 and we can work on pissed off Republican moderates like Flake, Collins, Heller, McCain, Corker, to provide the two votes to stop Trump from getting what he wants. It makes taking the Senate outright in 2018 a very real possibility. I worry that violent demonstrations right now will take the focus away on stopping Trump legislatively which we basically have done. It is incredible — the first time a party that has controlled both houses of Congress and the Presidency has passed NOTHING but one SCOTUS justice and some other justices in the first year so far. The Dems have played effective opposition.

It’s too bad your Bio-Blood doesn’t Play Well With Others, but it’s good you have your in-laws!

      • Reality.Bites

Why didn’t they stick him at the end so he’d get the dishes last?

        • Treant

That would put him next to my father. Bad move. 🙂

Besides, as we need things, dishes tend to go back and forth.

I am a voluntary orphan and have not spoken to my abusive family since 1992.

This Friday I am hosting a family-of-choice day after Thanksgiving at the huge 1894 house I am restoring. A few rooms are now restored but the dining room is surreal. It looks like a bomb has gone off in it with missing plaster. The massive table is by Baker, and cost $12,000 but I got it for a steal on eBay. Today I built benches out of salvaged lumber. The tablecloth is a painter’s drop cloth. And gracing all this is a glittering crystal chandelier (another eBay find). Yep, surreal.

About 25 people are expected and think it is all going to be fabulous.

Can I ask where the general area of this 1894 house is?

In the Aughts, I participated in the renovation (actually it was still in the deconstruction phase when I worked on it!) of this: http://ismonhouse.org/history.php

Such a neat project! I’d never used a pry bar before (useful for removing all kinds of things: ply-boarded up windows, decades of old plaster, cheap&tacky 1960s bathroom fixtures, etc). Between using that, and a sledge hammer, my hands got super strong!

  • OT– I just whipped something up for dinner tomorrow and its amazing. I know jello molds are so 70’s but they work for fresh cranberries. The quantities and exact ingredients do not matter, I just cook and do not worry about recipes.
    Ingrediants
2 – 3 ounce boxes sugar free rasp. jello (use whatever you want, with sugar or diet or whatever you have around the house).
1- 8 ounce bag fresh cranberries (or a 12 ounce bag)
    2 cups water
1- cup crushed or chunk pineapple in juice (whatever you have in a can at home). Other canned fruit would work.
    Optional-
cinnamon or other spices, a pinch.
    chopped fresh walnuts (a handful)
coarsely chopped fresh chestnuts ( 9, i used the pre roasted kind in a bag they taste better than fresh ones for cooking)
1/4 cup sweet wine or other booze. I had sweet Manischewitz in the fridge that I discovered. You can put in more wine if you want and less water.
    ————-
    Directions — —–
Boil the water. Then stir in the jello while the water is boiling on low for about a minute until it is mostly dissolved. Then add the fresh cranberries and wine, stirring for about 5 minutes until they break open on low boil. While the cranberries are cooking add in the chopped walnuts and chopped chestnuts towards the end and cinnamon or spices.. Do not overcook. Turn off.

Put in the canned pineapple and stir.

It is sitting in a 2-part jello mold that must be 30 years old that I just discovered in my mother’s kitchen in the fridge for tomorrow. I assume it will not be runny when it it jelled. The warm “sauce” tastes incredible.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

I enjoy many kosher products. Matzo soup, latkes, borek and (homemade only) gefilte fish being chief among them.

I was recently introduced to traditional kosher wines, and (sorry) but I hope I never encounter them again. I can tolerate and even enjoy hinted notes of tar, pine needles, burning rubber or even a slightly corked wine. But the taste of these wines literally ruined the otherwise delicious kosher meal I was eating. They paired with nothing. My hosts conceded that they are an “acquired taste”. I would tend to agree….

I read up on Labrusca (Concord) grapes used to make Manischeiwicz wines, which have a taste described as “foxy”. Apparently, most vinifera (common European) grapes are now considered kosher, and kosher wines can now come from any region of the world. Today, they apparently taste the same as many goyim wines….no detectable difference in flavor.

I tease my friends about how glad I am that no matter how bad the Economy, God will always has a jobs program for his besties. 🙂

God, of course, continually changes his mind about what we humans can eat…but for those of us who don’t talk to him ourselves, we wonder why he is usually most partial to bland, poorly spiced foods, even when not an animal product?

      • DaddyRay

I was listening to a comedy skit not to long ago where he was making the argument that he rather not eat the “free range” turkeys who have lived such a wonderful life – he would rather eat the ones who couldn’t wait for life to be over and may have even offed themselves

The Prescott Valley Police Department issued a bulletin Monday about Police

Jarrell apparently didn’t realize the firearm was missing until four days later, on Nov. 13. The bulletin said he immediately reported the loss when he discovered the

  • Treant

It came out pretty much the way I wanted, a Kandinsky style but without the furious and angry colors. It’s designed as a guest soap or small bath bar, and the shape and the way the rings cut through the soap will evolve with time and usage. The circles are designed to, themselves, complete the circle even in the third dimension–as much as I could funnel pour that.

I cut this a little earlier than I should have (the recipe I created for this was high water and, hence, softer than I usually work with), but I can repair these easily when they dry a bit. I’ll fix up and cut the others tomorrow or Friday.

Further circular soaps will have to wait; as expected, I had to destroy the mold to get it out. It was, effectively, a free mold, so I don’t care.

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ad3b6ff27744eea1d1faf0fc4f250f6dff37a025e1ea6fa6b0838872ab20a8fb.jpg

    • Lizard

Treant, how does one get into artisanal soap-making? I’m really curious. (They’re gorgeous, btw. In the pic they look almost like geodes.)

      • Treant

        http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11

Live it. Learn it. Love it. YouTube also has a ton of How To Make Soap videos, but I’d be a bit careful about which ones I learn from. Soapmaking101 is great.

Your local community college may have a class on Cold Process soap making (the one that allows the most design decisions while also being soap making from scratch).

Melt and Pour is also a good place to start (allowing some truly stunning design, but a prepared base you buy and melt, so you have no control over the recipe. There are limits, too; those feathery swirls I’ve done can’t be made with MP).

Hot Process saponifies the soap fastest (it still requires a cure period regardless of what anybody claims; it’s safe, but it’s certainly not optimal for six weeks). But it allows only very rustic design styles and very simple colors and patterns.

Artisan soap making is one part chemistry lab, one part cooking, one part design, one part fragrance artist, and about two parts sheer panic as nothing goes anything like you designed for. Seriously. The number of unexpected things that happened in making the above soap was about three. That’s pretty normal any time I try something even faintly new. Complex designs never come off the way you expect.

      • Treant

And that geode idea? Thanks for that. I now need a circular form, and two circular tubes, one smaller than the other. Putting a hole in the center could be done, but it’d be difficult, so I’d almost rather do that as a pure black. Plus a hole will spread during use.

So you end up with a gray, stone-like circle done with a paler gray pot swirl to add some depth. Internal to that, the “gemstone,” which almost cries out for a nice sapphire. And internal to that, the central “hole” in black.

        • Lizard

    • One episode is devoted to the Kennedy’s visit to London after their triumphant visit to Paris in 1961 – Where JFK famously said “he will be remembered as the man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to France”. There was to be a lunch at Buckingham Palace, which was not a formal state visit, and the Queen did not care for the Kennedys. This might go back to his father’s low opinion of her father while he was ambassador before WW2 (Joe Kennedy thought Britain would quickly lose the war) and his dismissive letters about Britain to the German Foreign Minister. Jackie wanted to invite her sister, Lee Radziwill to the luncheon at the Palace (Lee was living near the Palace in London at the time), and the Queen said no — it was a not a state event, the Queen did not recognize her husband as royalty (more a parvenu) and Lee was once married to Michael Canfield – who very well could have been (and probably was) her illegitimate first cousin (son of the Duke of Kent). Divorcees still were not invited to non state occasions in 1961. Jackie would not tolerate this, and told the U.S. Ambassador that he had to do something about it. Jackie won out — but no members of the Royal Family whom she wanted to meet (Princess Margaret, Marina, Alexandra, on a list she submitted) were at the lunch. The Queen was fuming. Handsome Michael Canfield – who was adopted by an American publisher and died young photo is below — see his resemblance to the royals? I tend to let that flow as it will. I’m not afraid to make a snap decision that doesn’t interfere with any previous agreements or my sense of ethics (which is actually ridiculously critical).

Now finances? I’ve got plans that run for decades. And when doing something, everything is planned, nothing is left to chance, and I always have backups and contingencies. Frequently, my backups have contingencies…

          • another_steve

I differentiate between “lust” and “planning.” I compartmentalize them.

Planning is essential for long-term survival and well-being. I want to survive, therefore I plan.

“Lust” is a quality of life thing.

“Fuck it; If there’s no excitement, no spontaneity, what the hell is the purpose of the thing.”

      • another_steve

I was on Ambien for a while but I occasionally didn’t sleep it off. Anyone who has taken Ambien and doesn’t sufficiently sleep it off knows what that’s like.

The next morning, I would beg for death.

I would hand a knife to my husband and beg him to end it for me.

        • Lizard

I never take more than half an Ambien for fear of not sleeping off a full one.

        • Treant

My father used to do that; he had absolutely horrible sleep apnea (my tests show very minor apnea that doesn’t require treatment).

His sleep schedule rotated around the clock almost randomly, and trying to time the Ambien with the Oxy was a real trip.

Too bad Quaalude’s aren’t readily available anymore. Well, maybe in Mexico.

          • another_steve

Ironically, back in the 70s when quaaludes were tossed around like breath mints, I never took them. I was young and vigorous. I partied hardy and slept soundly at night. Drug-free.

Today, in my dotage, I rely on chemicals.

Gin, mostly. But whatever else the kindness of strangers presents to me.

          • fuzzybits

Actually I’m not sure I would take em now. I did so much partying for years I went the the other way hard and now don’t take a Tylenol unless I need it. I quit smoking in 2000 after 30 years of smoking cigs and pot daily. It was at a point if I would’ve went a little longer I’d be sucking oxygen from a tank.

Wish I had some. I’m in a guest bed atm and I think the mattress is made from granite.

    • Do this. Go out and get Valerian Root – the real stuff, you can get it on Amazon. Make two cups of strong tea from it and drink it with honey or sugar. It smells strange but you get used to the tea — you will sleep like a baby on it. It is non addicting and a natural hypnotic. Try it. It works, but get the real stuff, not dinky little tea bags. People have been sleeping with it for thousands of years.

      • Lazycrockett

Or this, lower the temp in your bedroom, mid 60’s is the best, make the room as pitch black as possible and find a soothing white noise option, I prefer a fan at the edge of my bed facing me.

I get a good solid no tossing or turning for 7 hours minimum sleep.

        • fuzzybits

I use a sound machine too.

        • safari

I seem to have an innate fear of just letting my mind exist in a quiet place. It makes me anxious. I think i have legitimately developed a fear of falling asleep because of this. At the moment I fall asleep to audiobooks or podcasts in order to have someone else keeping my brain occupied.

          • fuzzybits

I have an old friend who always has the tv on all night in the bedroom because I think he’s the same way. The neighbor lady across the street does the same thing. I’ve asked her when does she ever turn her brain off. I like a pitch black room.

          • another_steve

Sounds like you may be a bedtime “processor.” I’m like that.

I lie down in a totally dark and quiet room… and I proceed to process.

Life, death and the meaning of everything.

          • JCF

I hear ya. I need to have white noise. I also use a sleep mask (reminds me, gotta get a new one. The ones I get at Walgreens last about a year). I also like heavy covers (even in the hottest weather, I CANNOT sleep w/o *at least* a sheet! But I really prefer to have a thin blanket on me). In winter, I have some number of thermal blankets (currently 2, but I’ll probably go up to three by sometime next month), a light bedspread, a medium poly-fill comforter, and then topped w/ an open sleeping bag! [Feel free to psychoanalyze what this says about me. ;-/ ]

        • 60’s? I sleep at 77! This is Florida! For one thing my AC bills would be huge! The AC turns off in the winter at this temperature but it rarely gets below 75 in the house. It all depends on what you are acclimated to.

          • safari

The people from which I am descended operate best in the mid-60s and either clouds or a very low-UV index. Though we appreciate the sun, it burns.

        • Talisman

Also, avoid screens (TV, computer, & phone) at least an hour before bedtime.

Some people say it helps to take a hot shower just before getting into bed.

But don’t listen to me. If I ever got a decent night’s sleep, democrats might actually organize and vote.

        • Reality.Bites

To each their own. I find a fan at the edge of my bed facing me to be terrifying.

I take a Xanax and temazepam to sleep. I live in the desert, where summer temps are very high and the A/C makes a hum that lulls me to sleep. In the winter the temp is in the 50s, so I use a fan to make white noise.

I am going to do Cyber Monday for my airline tickets to Italy next summer. Last year I bought my airline tickets for England and saved $1000. The trick is you have to know the exact dates for your trip and do your pre-shopping to know if you are getting a deal.

    • JCF

I really need a new phone (that 2010 model just ain’t what she used to be! Especially when I lost it last April, and it spend a week on top of my car, in the rain! Miracle it didn’t slide off, but—despite drying in rice—some keys were lost for good). I’m thinking Fry’s Electronics might have some deals (something unlocked, I can put on my super-cheap Virgin Mobile provider—IF VM will allow that. Gotta check it out).

My old faithful Nokia had rubber “brakes” on the back that kept it on the roof of the car as we drove a winding incline for miles and miles through Rocky Mountain National Park several years ago. Loved that phone. No trouble using it in daylight.

      • William

Here’s something to confound your brain:

The Westinghouse TV brand, still controlled by a CBS subsidiary called Westinghouse Electric Corporation, is now part of Tongfang’s growing portfolio of TV brand names. The Chinese electronics manufacturer sells those Westinghouse-brand TVs through a subsidiary called Westinghouse Electronics. It acquired the rights to do that following the dissolution of prior licensee Westinghouse Digital.

I will not know what to do with myself on Friday. Usually I am putting up my Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. Last year I had an electrical short in my pre-lit tree so I tossed it because I didn’t want the risk for an electrical fire. I meant to buy one during the After Christmas deals but was sick as a dog and stayed in bed most of the week. I don’t know if it makes sense to pull out all of my Christmas only to put up my Christmas Village and Nut Cracker collection.
I will miss having a tree even though I am never home for Christmas

    • Treant

I throw some lights on the hibiscus and call it a season. We’re never home and few, if any, people see the tree. This year, they might, but the hibiscus is fine. 🙂

I have a small 2′ tree for the dining room, and a 1′ tree for the upper hallway on the table, lit by battery LEDs.

Honestly? I’m just not into decorating the house this year.

      • DaddyRay

Yeah I am not feeling the Christmas joy but maybe I need the distraction. I always go to my friends in SF for Christmas and they really do it up right. They order their tree from the Sierra and spend countless hours putting on twinkle lights, bubble lights and candles.
They even make the popcorn and cranberry garland fresh by hand every year.
Even when i put up my tree I always think it looks like a Charlie Brown tree compared to theirs.

Here is a video I took of them lighting the candles on their tree
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVo_gManl6w

        • Treant

That’s a gorgeous tree! I would absolutely never use flame near a tree, of course…

My tree is…particular to my sensibilities, which means it’s 400 pieces of crystal, ranging from the yearly Swarovski crystal ornaments to a couple hundred chandelier balls.

It takes forever to set up. You have to place each one where it catches the light and I used to schedule a full day just for that.

I have photos, but it photographs poorly; crystal doesn’t really have an image, just a diffraction and prism effect…

          • DaddyRay

The crystal must be beautiful to look at with lights at night. My mom had icicles from Marshall Fields that were dated 1954. They were stored in a wooden box with velvet. My mom never put them up and when they moved they just gave them away to one of the neighbors up the street. I never got over that as I always felt they were a family heirloom

          • ZRAinSWVA

We collected hand blown ornaments for years, which made for a beautiful tree…we also had a holiday party every year where the guests were to help us decorate. Most brought an ornament, which means we had a tree full of memories. A few years back, though, we’d lost so many people that the ‘tree of memories’ became just a bit too painful so we gave it up. Perhaps some year we’ll get back in the spirit. We do, though, put up quite a show outside!

        • SoCalGal20

Gorgeous tree. I would never ever have lit candles on an indoor tree but that’s just me. I’d be continuously terrified it would burst into flame but it sure is beautiful!

      • 2guysnamedjoe

Just had a brainstorm / brainfart:
        Xmas ornaments made of soap.

        • Treant

I can, but with a preponderance of crystal, it might not look right. Plus the stuff is a magnet for dust and the clear stuff melts in any heat…like the point source of a mini-light…

Why Are the Media Ignoring Them?

Because poor people don’t get good ratings. They tend to be ugly, inarticulate, non-white, and/or undereducated.

The “reality” shows in America are about rich, stupid, pretty people. Everyone wants to find out which celeb had a boob job or his asshole bleached, because “they don’t like politics”. America is a hard place to be poor, but it beats the third world in most cases.

Wishing all the Americans here a happy thanksgiving, whichever way you spend it.

Here in Norway we don’t do Thanksgiving. We have a tradition of x-mas family gatherings over several days, a kind of combined x-mas and thanksgiving type celebration.

In other news, my mother fell and broke her arm. I worry, and want to visit her to help out, but she says she can handle things on her own. I’m torn between respecting her wishes and my need/desire to help her.

    • JCF

      {{{zhera’s mom—-and zhera}}}

Would she go all passive-aggressive on you, if you were to show up ala “I know you can ‘handle’ things, but I just want to see you anyway?” [Bring up “…for my own piece of mind”]

      • zhera

No, I don’t think she would. I talked to her today and she says she’s doing fine. And she can get assistance if needed. I’ll give it a few days and then we’ll see. ♥

    • BearEyes

      Tack för tacksägelse hälsningar!
So sorry to hear about your Mom’s arm. Parent’s don’t want their kids to worry about them – I get that. Is there someone where she lives who can assist if necessary? Is she as independent and self-sufficient as she says? Factor those answers into your decision – but still check in with her to see if she really is able to handle things.

      • zhera

        Oooh, svenska!

She can get assistance if needed, and there are people she can ask for help. I think the biggest problem is my worrywarting self. 😉

    • RoFaWh

Do Norwegians celebrate some kind of harvest festival? That would be the true equivalent to American Thanksgiving, which is simply a harvest festival celebrated a month or two too late.

In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October.

      • zhera

There are things like Autumn celebrations, but it’s not an institution like x-mas or Thanksgiving. Sometimes there will be an October festival or a harvest feast. It varies. 🙂 I think we tend to combine a lot of different things into the x-mas, or yule, festivities. It’s a celebration of the sun coming back, of another year survived, of harvest, of family and friends, of life. And of course, for the religious there are other elements.

That’s my take on it, anyway.

  • AmeriCanadian

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans! Living in Canada where today is just another work day has always been bizarre for me. But then, so is celebrating Thanksgiving in October. I’m blessed that I’m able to live in a great country such as Canada and get almost double the holidays (Family Day, Victoria Day, Civic Holiday, Boxing Day, and a few others I’m sure I have forgotten), let alone a sane government and hot prime minister!

I wonder how many Thanksgiving dinner will be similarly disrupted this year?

    • Sam_Handwich

just imagine thanksgiving dinner in Alabama this year. wonder how many 2nd amendment mishaps might occur.

    • Reality.Bites

Why is she still with a man who’d leave her on the holidays to be with people who abuse his wife?

      • Dayglo

You are so right … but you don’t know the half of it. He forged her name on an absentee ballot in favor of Trump last year! She should have sued, then murdered him.

        • Reality.Bites

You’re so right about it being worse

        • Lizard

That’s voter impersonation. But go on about how much voter fraud liberals commit, Republicans….

Seriously though, she should divorce his ass.

    • 2guysnamedjoe

“Darling?” she should’ve said to her husband last Thanksgiving, “I left something in the car. Could I have the keys, please?”
She should’ve then gotten in the car, driven nonstop to Reno, and found herself an all-night divorce lawyer.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

The husband is a piece of trash. He is putting her below what he considers his real family. Does she have kids with him? If not, now is the time to flee because he will just train them to shit on her too.

      • Dayglo

No kids, thank god. He’s in his 60s and a heroin addict to boot. My sister can really pick ’em. Straight people, what are we gonna do with them?

        • Lizard

          RUN HONEY RUN!!!!

          • Dayglo

Agreed. But ultimately we need to ask “Who marries a republican?”

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

Oh jeez, she needs to get therapy to figure out why she chose him and men like him since it sounds like this is a very bad habit for her.

    • Lizard

I read an article on Politico which features a joint study from UCLA and WSU contending that Trump actually ruined Thanksgiving. People are statistically spending less time at the table, and the effect nearly doubles in areas with aggressive political advertising.

    • JCF

My dad and I are having Thanksgiving at my choir director’s. She loathes Drumpf, as does her daughter. But her daughter told several of us last week (at a farewell teaparty for her retiring mother), tearfully, that her husband voted for Drumpf. It’s sure going to affect the way I now view him. 🙁

Trump: It’s Thanksgiving! Gotta serve red meat to my racist base!

    • 2guysnamedjoe

      The article says:
“It appears that the president was attempting to respond to his own, previous tweet, in which he highlighted some of his presidential accomplishments, . . . ”

Bullcrap. He meant to tweet what he tweeted and where he tweeted it. Every time he opens his big mouth or flexes his tiny thumbs with some seemingly random, grumpy-old-man rant, it’s actually another small, deliberate step in his campaign to normalize racism and fascism.

  • Kudzu

I certainly hope America reverses this “style” that seems to have taken over our discourse regarding politics.

Ok, I’m posting this link here for now because I don’t want to go OT on the Ali Forney post.

This story about Manafort came out yesterday. Flight records reveal his Kremlin ties are more extensive than previously known.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/exclusive-manafort-flight-records-show-deeper-kremlin-ties-than-previously-known/ar-BBFvRMd

    • medaka

      The free-association writes itself:

      “Manafort, flight?”
      “RISK!”

    • Treant

That’s OK, he’s still out of jail…er, house arrest…today because it’s a hardship for him!

    • stevenj

      Surprise, surprise.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I will lose faith in the Mueller investigation if Manafort escapes.

Alabamans never leave a child’s behind.

The black ones can, no problem, no choice.

It’s only fake news if it’s about a Republican, otherwise it’s totally true!

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

OT: Onetime Reagan White House aide Bruce Bartlett says this at the end of the interview.

    https://www.salon.com/2017/11/23/gop-insider-bruce-bartlett-the-republican-party-needs-to-die/

How did today’s Republican Party, in your estimation, become the way it is? Can it be saved?

The Republican Party needs to die. It’s already a zombie. It’s brain dead.

    • stevenj

Thanks for posting this. A very good read summing up how we got to where are. IMO it all started well before Reagan’s term in the WH but definitely accelerated in the 80’s. A slow motion coup has been going on right in front of everyone. I have doubts that most Americans are aware of how fragile our democracy is right now. The government is being dismantled right in front of our eyes. If you want to change the government you have to change the people in government. This happened Nov 7 in No. Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia. We need to keep the ball rolling.

      • Adam King

It’s nice to hold out hope, but I think it’s already too late. Russia is nominally “democratic” too.

      • RoFaWh

        Who was behind Reagan’s nomination?

At first it was straight Catholic priest who were abusing and raping children and now it is gun toting anti-gay Christian politicians who are abusing and raping children. The anti-gay Christian pedophile cult seems to be gaining more and more members everyday now.

Long read in NY Times on the Trump file and a former British agent named Christopher Steele. It reads like a John Le Carré novel. No big new revelations, but an enormous, sordid view of Don Donald and his Russian friends, and a British secret agent tracking them.

It seems to me the Washington Post knows a pile of crap when it sees one, Roy Moore.

  • fbooker

He’s like Governor LePage, saying “Thank You” after his infamous c**k s***ker rant. Happy Thanksgiving, indeed. What a … I have no words that can be printed here.

  • Nowhereman

They are really reaching. He’s trying so hard to dispute the little stuff and ignoring the really big stuff. May it blow up in his face. I would love it if a few more victims and witnesses piled on about now.
