Brian Brown Has The Australia Sadz

“In a non-binding move, Australians voted for ‘gay marriage.’ They voted against the truth that children deserve their own mother and father whenever possible. They voted against millennia of common sense that life is created only by a man and a woman, and that gendered marriage is the only institution that attaches new life to parents. Sure, Australia, you can vote against truth, but it doesn’t change the truth. Thanks to the millions of Australians who still know the truth. A painful loss to them, but one that will be only temporary, because truth always rises again.” – Hate group leader Brian Brown, posting to Facebook. (Tipped by JMG reader Nick)

    yeah, whatever.

  • Ninja0980

Asshole’s who 15 minutes of hate fame ended years ago says what?

  • Lizard

Hey Brian, saying “truth” that many times in one statement almost sounds like you’re desperately scrabbling to justify something. Hmmm?

  • Tom Bestor

The question I always have for people like Brian Brown is this: how – specifically – will denying civil marriage to same-sex couples increase the number of children growing up in mother-father households? Simple question. Which they can’t answer.

  • Jerry Hinnant

Is he still around? Shouldn’t he be organizing his March for Marriage. I guess it doesn’t take long to organizing a March for a couple dozen clowns.

    • SammySeattle

I’ll have more at my place for dinner next Thursday than he’ll have for his march.

    • Sporkfighter

I’m waiting for his March for Bronze. Get rid of all this steel and iron, the aluminum and fiberglass and build a true Old Testament Biblical society of wood and stone using bronze tools, just like Moses and Pharaoh did!

I am 100 percent super-duper positive of this:

Someone will eventually market a digital/robot-type device (custom-made according to purchaser specifications) that will look and feel 100 percent human-like and will serve one purpose and one purpose only: sex.

Moving parts. Mouth, etc. 100 percent realistic. Indistinguishable from the real thing. As in the picture you posted.

At first it’ll cost $5,000 – $10,000. As with all other technology gadgets, the price will eventually come down to a point where many or most people will be able to afford it.

The person who has the patent on it will be the wealthiest human being in the entire history of Planet Earth, as of that date.

‘Love won’: vandalised George Michael mural in Sydney gets a makeover
        https://twitter.com/paulkidd/status/931989195718983680
        – Man charged with defacing artwork in Erskineville as community rallies to add its own positive messages
‘A mural depicting the late singer George Michael as a saint has been defaced in Sydney by a man claiming to be defending his religion.
The 23-year-old man, who was arrested by New South Wales police and charged with graffiti offences, was captured on film covering the mural with black paint.
“I’m defending my religion, that’s exactly what I’m doing,” he said.
The artwork by Scott Marsh, titled St George, depicts the Wham!
singer and gay rights activist in the style of a Christian saint and was created after his death in December last year.’

Wow, she was gorgeous. The only movie I’ve seen her in is “Baby Jane,” in her older days. Bette always said Joan and she were two different types of actresses and I can see she was correct. Both of them were terrific in that movie.

            Thanks for the video!

          • David Walker

Dale, try these. There aren’t a lot of megastar actresses who would insist upon looking like clip 1 only so she could transform in the awe-striking beauty she is in clip 2. Both are from “Now, Voyager.” I recommend it very highly.

Good. I’m glad to hear that. I’m sort of a Tired Old Queen at the Movies and find nothing wrong with that. I’ve discovered that I need a weekly fix of black and white movies, which is why god gave us TCM, I’m quite sure.

          • Dale Snyder

Tell me about it. I’ve seen that movie and I believe there’s a big part of Bette in that. She never found herself attractive and at the same time she was never afraid to play older, less attractive women. She was also a pioneer in playing evil women when no woman in Hollywood would even think of it.

That’s why she was the best actress that ever graced this planet.

Her quote: “Give me a good director and a good script.”

She gave William Wyler all the credit.

          • Dale Snyder

I should add that Gladys Cooper (her evil mother in that film) was one of her favorite actresses.

        I never said no.

        • That is a really good school. I took art classes at Pratt one summer (I used to walk by there because I got off the train at the LIRR station on Atlantic) before the area because chic. It is amazing how trendy and expensive that part of Brooklyn is becoming. FYI here is what they are building there now – Pacific Park https://pacificparkbrooklyn.com/

          • another_steve

Fascinating. Thanks for that link. I’ve sort of lost track of what’s happening in Brooklyn. Been out of New York City for almost four decades.

I used to get off at the DeKalb Avenue stop and walk to Brooklyn Tech. Today it would probably feel like a long walk, but back then it was no problem.

The school went co-ed in late-1970 as I recall. Not long after I graduated.

          • Go on Google Maps streetview and “walk around” . You will be amazed.

  • Tawreos

One of these days they are going to have to admit that they lost. It won’t happen until they stop getting donations for their fear mongering. Hopefully it won’t be to many more years.

    • JohnJay

I don’t think they will admit loss for a while. With Trump in the WH and one Supreme Court Justice away from all their dreams coming true. Perhaps if Hillary won, they might have made noise for a year and then packed it up, since there would have been no way SCOTUS would tip in their favor. But now… it’s a waiting game till they win control of SCOTUS.

You can’t keep claiming that marriage is solely for procreation when you don’t want to ban non-procreative straight couples from marrying, AND you can’t claim that marriage is solely a religious institution when you don’t want to ban straight couples from getting civilly married.

PS: No one is preventing religious straight couples from going to their church and having a non-legally binding religious sacrament performed, AND no is preventing them from kicking out a half-dozen rugrats to please their God who doesn’t mind the Earth being overpopulated.

So, yeah, four strikes and you’re out, Bry.

I’ll vote against the truth. And I don’t give a shit if my vote doesn’t change the truth. As long as same sex couples get all the rights if the heterosexual couples.

  • teedofftaxpayer

    Aw, poor baby.

  • Chris Baker

What same-sex marriage has to do with parenting still baffles me. He is saying “gay couple should not marry be because children deserve a mother and a father.” Those are two separate issues. In fact his next sentence defeats the point he made in his first sentence: “life is created only by a man and a woman”

So, theoretically, if a same sex couple cannot procreate, they are not denying a child a mother and a father. Because they can’t create a child.

What Brown really should be arguing, if he is concerned about children, is that a married couple, who has a child, should not be allowed to divorce. That makes the most sense from his logic. And that unwed women who get pregnant should be forced to marry the father of the child, because children ‘deserve’ to be raised by it’s mother and father.

But his logic comes, apparently, from his idea that marriage is only for the purpose of creating children. No love, no passion, no soulmate, just a man and women to create children. Which sort of explains why he has 8 children, because his sole purpose it to procreate. Would be interesting into getting a glimpse into that marriage. I suppose after menopause, the sex will end because there will be no purpose.

    • MikeBx2

If children were really what he’s concerned about.

This is almost too obvious to post.

    • TampaDink

Back before we got the right to marry, whenever I heard or read this bullshit about every child deserves a mother & a father, I proposed that divorce be outlawed…and if a father or mother dies while their children are still minors, the children must be removed from the home. In light of the grieving process, I’d suggest that the children who have just lost a parent be allowed to remain with their living parent until immediate after the funeral.

    • Homo Erectus

      Ugh. no.

They voted against the truth that children deserve their own mother and father whenever possible.

This bogus line of reasoning failed in the United States, too. A same-sex couple adopts or has a kid by AI or a surrogate mother – but Brown’s not against any of that for straight couples, of course. Brown’s probably not keen on single parents, but he’s also not advocating forcing them to get married so the kid has “their own mother and father.” In fact…what is his point? I think I’ve officially stripped it down to its illogical center.

If they do, they will be aiding and abetting them in their crimes!

    Brian’s never heard of adoption?

    • clay

Brian doesn’t want to remind people about the RCC’s history with adoption.

  • Brown unconditionally supports the Republican party, which has passed tax bills that:
    – Eliminate the adoption tax credit
    – Slashes childcare tax credits
    – Eliminates individual dependent tax exemptions, which are crucial for larger families

The GOP also supports separating undocumented children from their parents and oppose paid leave for parents.

    • Ninja0980

As George Carlin once said, the GOP is pro-life until the baby is born then they don’t give a shit.

      • Given they don’t give a shit whether the woman has OB/GYN or maternity care, it’s not even the fetus or fertilized egg they care about.

It’s entirely ‘forced pregnancy.’ Punishing and controlling women through the uterus.

    • Cuberly Deux

I realize he’s an RCC dipshit but with the cancellation of the alimony exemption it translates into lower payments, due to the tax increase, ergo…impacts the kiddies.

Only a man and a woman can procreate and every child deserves a mother and father. So what are gay people doing? Stealing their children? And if we were, wouldn’t being married be better for the kids’ sake?

What is this loon’s hang up about making babies? Those of us who want kids have them. Those that don’t, don’t. If there were a shortage of humans on this planet, he may have a point. There isn’t. Not even close. Until Mr. Brown is able to take care of the unwanted kids, thrown away by there parents, he needs to keep his mouth shut.

I have a corn plant (Dracaena fragrans ‘Massangeana’) blooming indoors right now.

        They don’t do that.

        Ever.

Treatment to get them to blossom is almost impossible, and even I’ve only ever had it happen once in 40 years.

I gotta take a photo. The blossom is ugly, but so rare that it’s also interesting.

        • Boreal

My (work) neighbors have one doing the same in their office. They had never seen it before and asked if something was wrong with the plant. I used to see this when I took care of interior plants at local malls back in the 80s.

          • Treant

For me, this is definitely a first. But you know what I mean when I say the blossom is rather ugly; it looks like spiky testicles surrounded by short dirty-white sepals.

Have you ever toyed with Gibberellic Acid (Ga3)?

          • Treant

Constantly, along with auxins. I keep a very thin bath of gibberellins in all of my plants at all times; I’ve added it to the base feeding I give them.

          • PickyPecker

What about growth regulators like Florel (Ethephon)?

          • Treant

Not as a general rule; to control growth height, I’ll prune the plant to make it bushier. I dwarfed my indoor ageratum to about an inch tall…but a foot wide.

          • PickyPecker

It’s a very…interesting chemical and has differing effects on different plant species. A few years ago, I did a light application to some tomato plants at flower bud initiation stage in an effort to slow their growth. It did for a while….but the main stems became very thick (about 1/2″ in circ.) and sprouted roots all along the stem……looked like mango trees. Toughest damned tomato plants I ever had. Could pick the entire container up by one leaf.
Grew out of it, of course….normal flowering and fruiting into maturity.
            Ahhh…experiments. lol
(I use it regularly in the greenhouse early Spring on many cultivars)

          • Treant

A lot of home growers also use regulators in their flats. I never do, but it involves a lot of very exacting timing to make sure that the things don’t overgrow the lights before they can go outside around May 1st to harden off!

It also means that things like sunflowers don’t generally get started early or, if they do, it’s in large cups that can be set outside the shelves and left to grow…

          • PickyPecker

It does, if we’re talking about the resin. I use that in soap making, but always have to remind myself that it discolors a very deep gray in alkaline environments. I did one for Christmas, gray with some unscented white swirled into it to make the color less…dirty looking.

          • Dreaming Vertebrate

This is not the reference I was looking for, but the perfume extraction info might interest you. Still trying to find that article. http://anyasgarden.com/blog/alert-extremely-fragrant-corn-plant-is-blooming/

          • Treant

Total neglect? I coddle that thing! It gets appropriate amounts of water, fed six times a year…but it sees no sunlight and only indirect eastern light.

And yes, the flowers are gawky.

I wonder…I can do an alcohol extraction (that’s easy) and tedious and time consuming is not a problem for me. While alcohols are a problem in soap (it tends to make the soap accelerate or seize), I might be able to add it as I melt the oils and boil it off while keeping the scent..

Well, it costs nothing but time and some perfumer’s alcohol, so…

          • Dreaming Vertebrate

Apparently there is a lot of fragrance hidden away in those flowers. That’s the nighttime surprise I was referencing earlier.

            From the Laid Back gardener:
            https://laidbackgardener.blog/2017/01/11/when-a-corn-plant-blooms/
“Back in 1984, I was working in a 5-story office building in the Old Port. One evening I stayed on a bit later than usual, then, shortly after 6 pm, an extraordinary perfume began wafting into my office. What was it? I set off in search of the source of the incredible fragrance, finally to find discover it 3 floors below, in the building’s lobby: a corn plant in full bloom. Imagine, blooms so intensely fragrant that they can fill an entire 5-story building with their scent!”

          • Treant

I actually cannot smell a thing from ours; it might just not be far enough along yet?

          • That applies to the type species, Dracaena draco, whose resinous sap (sanguis draconis) is supposed to have medicinal properties and is still used in the making of high-quality varnish.

The species is native to the Canary Islands, a Spanish possession, and “dragon’s blood” was so considered valuable in the 18th century that the very similar resin exuded by several species of Eucalyptus and Angophora (hence the common name “gum tree”) was one of Joseph Banks’s selling-points when he was urging the British government to colonise New South Wales. The Spanish were unreliable allies.

        • They need ideal conditions to flower. That means bright light, high humidity, adequate nourishment, and moist but not wet potting soil. Those conditions are much more likely when the plants are growing out of doors in a frost-free climate, and in a shady position — and, I think, with a free root-run. There they flower quite regularly.

You don’t mention the scent which earns D. fragrans its specific name. Most people find it heavy and displeasing indoors — especially at night — but it can be delightful in the open air. It reminds me a little of Lilium auratum.

          • Treant

It’s ten feet from a half-drawn window, in low humidity, with good nourishment, and rather too dry. 🙂

            At Jamestown, Datura caused madness:

“In 1676, British soldiers were sent to stop the Rebellion of Bacon. Jamestown weed (Jimsonweed) was boiled for inclusion in a salad, which the soldiers readily ate. The hallucinogenic properties of jimsonweed took affect.

As told by Robert Beverly in The History and Present State of Virginia (1705): The soldiers presented “a very pleasant comedy, for they turned natural fools upon it for several days: one would blow up a feather in the air; another would dart straws at it with much fury; and
another, stark naked, was sitting up in a corner like a monkey, grinning and making mows at them; a fourth would fondly kiss and paw his companions, and sneer in their faces with a countenance more antic than any in a Dutch droll.
“In this frantic condition they were confined, lest they should, in their folly, destroy themselves – though it was observed that all their actions were full of innocence and good nature. Indeed they were not very cleanly; for they would have wallowed in their own excrements, if
they had not been prevented. A thousand such simple tricks they played, and after 11 days returned themselves again, not remembering anything that had passed.”

          • PickyPecker

Datura is a very good seller in the greenhouse every spring. Ballerina double series. I make sure to tell people it’s poisonous.

          • Boreal

When we first moved here in the early 90s our 87 year old neighbor knew I was a plant person and called me one day to ask me what a strange flower in her yard was. It was Jimsonweed and I told her the above story. She was intrigued and asked me If I had ever tried it. I said no and told here I did not want to see her naked out in the yard so she shouldn’t try it either.

          • PickyPecker

          • PickyPecker

I keep getting reminded by my ‘better half’ to not be so gruff with idiot shoppers. AKA: ‘I am a master gardener’ types. I usually reply with ‘I am a degreed Horticulturist and have been a MG.’ gah….been doing this too long. lol

          • Boreal

            I hear you.

          • RoFaWh

My opinion: the whole “master gardener” thing is crap. All it does is teach you how to look things up in books.

Genuinely knowledgeable gardeners get that way by not only reading about plants, but by growing them too.

Example: I have a big pot full of Myrteola nummularia, the nanny-berry, native to Tierra del Fuego, the Falkland Islands, and Tasmania. I read up on the climate of the Falklands and noted it’s a chilly, damp climate. My specimen pot sits in a huge saucer that I keep filled with water so the soil is always at least damp. And thus I translated book learnin’ into practical growing.

PS: If you look up “nanny berry” on Google Images, you won’t see my plant; in the US, that colloquial name is applied to a species of Viburnum. Look up “myrteola” instead.

Further PS: The odd geographic distribution of Myrteola reflects it origin on Gondwana.

          • stuckinthewoods

Agreed on the master gardener thing. I’ve known several, one was my step father who moved into my mother’s. I noted that where he’d come from was Zone 8. “What’s that mean?” he said.

Datura grows as a weed here too. This year I could see it blooming in a soybean field up near the road. Fortunately the summer was so dry they didn’t bother to harvest that field. The datura was the healthiest part of the field.

          • kiprian

Two decades ago I planted the domesticated datura in my little strip of soil between the sidewalk and the house (which faces due west and gets very hot and dry). Haven’t seen a datura in my bed since then, but every single crack in the sidewalks and parking lots across the street grow gorgeous datura every year. So beautiful in fact that the maintenance bots have stopped trying to get rid of them and now remove all the other weeds around them.

Mentioned this in a thread the other day: Researchers have discovered that trees engage in a sort of “underground sex” with one another. They send out underground “feelers,” some physical and some chemical, and share data.

They can communicate to other trees things like, “Hey, big boy, I got me a nice setting here. Look at my chemicals. Wanna drop a seed here and play with me?”

      https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/88f8885b355c1cc6d90ed972bf56bca5246d95ee829174311b87392fa85e83b4.jpg

      • Treant

Trees, and most plants, trade resources through a network of interlocking fungi called mycorrhizae. They’ve actually evolved to be species-specific in some cases, and very broad spectrum in others, and the plants have evolved to open pores for the fungi to enter the root.

The plant gets resources (most notably, phosphorus) that the fungi have an easy time mining, and they also supply water when the weather is dry. The fungus gets sugars that the plant produces for it specifically, and a safe place to anchor and some protection from fungus eaters.

We think the symbiosis started during the Devonian, but at this point it’s so well-developed, including many other fungi and bacteria, that we call it the “rhizosphere.” It’s critically important to plant health, and the reason my lawn and gardens look so good.

I feed the rhizosphere and rely on that to supply the plants. I only feed the plants directly very minor amounts of resources once per week.

A rock gardening enthusiast here was able to flower calochortus in a 3″ terra cotta pot. Non-gardeners reading will say “so what?”, but calochortus is difficult enough to flower without putting it into such a tiny pot.

Same-sex marriage doesn’t deny anything about natural biological processes of procreation and, besides, marriage is not a requirement for procreation. Most of us know that, Brian. Also, to the best of my experience, children deserve stability and love and protection. What has that to do with ‘deserving’ a mother and father? It’s the other things I mentioned that are necessary and deserved for the well-being of children. Many a woman has children w/o a father in sight yet faces none of the condemnation you heap on gay people, whether they have kids or not. Many a father raises his kids alone, yet he’s off the hook as far as your argument goes. STFU already. Your statements are too easily punctured.

“They voted against millennia of common sense..” the last millennia perhaps? the last millennia full of war, hatred, bigotry, enslavement, and death in mass numbers? perhaps, it’s time we tried something different.

  • GeoffreyPS

You know what else was a “millennia of common sense”: child brides, slavery, colonization, absolute monarchies, plural marriages, eating spoiled food, not bathing, believing the earth was the center of the universe, flood geology, cooking over a wood fire….

O/T: “More women are sexual predators than men” says a pastor in AL. “Women are chasing boys up and down the road”.

    • Boreal

Every day I see packs of women rounding up young boys for the breeding corrals.

    • Treant

Some women as are, most as are not. Some men as are, most as are not. Statistically, I doubt there’s much difference, but reporting will certainly differ. A man reporting a woman is more likely to be told he’s complaining about nothing and he should be glad he got “lucky.” There’s only so much belittling and condescension that people will take before just shutting up and having a quiet breakdown.

      • MikeBx2

But those women are chasing them up and down the road. /s

Melanom, whom I shall never call an ex-prostitute, is a volunteer, not a victim. She knew what she was getting into when she married him. Sympathy sits between shit and syphilis in the dictionary, and she’s both.

        • another_steve

Yes yes yes but we should all try to understand: For her it was the orange sexual predator or life in a backwater country somewhere where the electric power goes off at 9 pm and the water is contaminated.

Caviar served to her on gluten-free imported crackers by sexy male servants or a life of softcore porn as her titties begin to sag and the Botox treatments begin to take their toll.

          Where is our compassion.

          Where.

          • 2guysnamedjoe

She had many other options. She could’ve married a nice fireman, for example, around her own age, and lived a comfortable middle class life in the burbs. She’d have had a nice home, a hot husband, opportunities to learn conversational English, and unlike her own self, a college education for her kids. Not as glitzy as drümpf tower, but still better than a lifetime of inspecting the goats for ticks back in Melavania.

          • another_steve

I don’t care if Melanoma is free. If you paid me a million bucks, I might consider taking her for a few weeks, but only if she stays in NY.

    • Henry Auvil

How many millions of rubles did it cost for Melania to look so fake?

      • canoebum

The real question is, how long before The Orange Menace trades her in for a newer model? The shelf life of a Trump wife is limited, especially since new ones are coming of age everyday.

        • djcoastermark

The days of twump trading in are over. Melonoma knows she has this one by the balls and when she lets go, well he’s finally shot his last.

          • 2guysnamedjoe

I hope she was smart enough to grab copies of the joint tax returns. Or even better (for her), smart enough not to sign, under penalty of perjury, a joint return with dump.

I think she is much slyer than she lets on.

OT. Tons of drama at MSNBC. Thomas Roberts didn’t quit as was reported but was actually FIRED for low ratings with Bloomberg’s David Gura to take his place. The PR statement was just that….a PR statement.

Andy Lack, the creature wanting the network to go Fox-lite is widely seen as the force behind the move and is actually gaining more power at the network. Building speculation he and will likely force the ouster of MSNBC president Phil Griffin shortly. Tensions with Lawrence remain. Sources for this include Mediaite and some blogs.

For NBC broadly, Megyn Kelly, despite being widely despised at Today, will likely stay (for now) long-term due to her ratings finally somehow stabilizing.

    • Ninja0980

      Not a surprise there.
When he lost his show, was only a matter of time before he was gone altogether.

      • Leo

Kathie Lee wants Andy Lack fired for decimating her ratings and Megyn’s ridiculous paycheck. Why he and his hire weren’t gone weeks ago is beyond me. Too many Trump acolytes holding too much sway – guess ratings really aren’t all that.

FEMA, as it exists today is Obama’s FEMA. The department was reorganized, improved, and professionalized under Obama, with orders from Congress requiring better management after Bush’s debacle.

Considering how overwhelming this year has been, they’ve done a great job. They could certainly do better. If Trump gets his way and cuts them as much as he wants to, they’ll do a much worse job on future disasters.

The fact that a lot of GOPers are sexual hypocrites should not be surprising. I remember reading “Tearoom Trade” by Laud Humphreys in college. Among his discoveries was that a lot of the men he interviewed doing the “Larry Craig” thing were politically conservative. The more things change…

Yeah, I posted that earlier. Gross!!!! Read Caleb’s recent twitter feed. This guy did the exactly same thing to a bunch of Ohio college campaign ops. Caleb got such a response from others to this tweet he’s writing an article (he’s an editor at IJR)..

    • Lazycrockett

Oh that feed is fun to read.

    • Leo

I don’t even know where to begin with this. After a 2 second wretch, first thought was the how/why the wife agreed to be an official beard considering he wasn’t exactly making bank.

My second thought is why now reveal this and why THIS. He could’ve put out a statement but this would get more clicks? The IJR’s trying to be a mainstream outlet and they would tolerate this? This is more along the lines of something Vice would allow. How is he still working there? Is Caleb a homocon? He saved the text? Why? Does he fucking jack off to it?

I have like 20 more questions.

      • gaycuckhubby

Yeah. I wonder about Caleb. One doesn’t keep sexting like that with an uninterested straight guy. I want to see his replies. Lol

Also, I don’t think his wife is a beard. It sounded like she was on board with her bi husband and their swinging sex life.

        • SoCalGal20

The screengrabs are from one of Caleb’s friends’ snapchats but Caleb said that Goodman sent him the same things. It was how he operated. Caleb’s twitter feed is quite a read. He got responses from like 30 other people, all the same story.

          • gaycuckhubby

Gotcha… makes a lot more sense. Thanks!

        If you read Caleb’s feed:

        1. Those are screengrabs of his friend’s snapchat but Caleb said Goodman sent him pretty much the exact same thing.

        2. After Caleb posted this about 30 other people notified him that Goodman did the same thing to them. He did this to Ohio college campaign ops.

        3. Because of the response Caleb is now writing an article about this for IJR.

        • Leo

Got it. I just…my thought is he could’ve done the article straight out (no pun intended). I feel like he’s relishing this exposure to build up to that. Maybe it’s a millennial thing.

The lead up’s just got the gross quality Nico’s story outing the athletes at the Olympics had, minus the subject’s hypocrisy.

          • SoCalGal20

Well it was only after he posted that tweet today that he got 30 responses. I’m not sure that he tweeted this morning with any intention of doing a story or anything more than, “this is the kind of skeezy shit this guy was texting at college age campaign ops like me.”

“I feel like he’s relishing this exposure. Maybe it’s a millennial thing.”

Uh…I don’t think so. I think he probably thought his own experiences were worth a tweet, but 30+ similar statements were newsworthy.

    https://twitter.com/pacelattin/status/932059886518640640

    • Treant

That depends. I don’t think she intended it as anything but a joke. He didn’t seem to take it as anything but a joke. It was done in front of a crowd who didn’t take it as anything significant at all. Therefore, no assault. This is the conclusion that I’ve come to.

However, under the definitions we’re using in the last few days, if he had taken it as an assault, it would therefore have been, regardless of Leann’s intent. And therefore, she must be drawn and quartered in the public square.

Another opinion has it that a man can’t be significantly assaulted by a woman as there’s no threat, it’s a man’s responsibility only, and therefore there is no assault here. That opinion is, of course, purest fucking bullshit and we don’t need to go further.

      • MikeBx2

Exactly, taken as just a joke at the time. But what if many years later Robin Williams (RIP) decided he did feel violated by that and went public with those feelings? That’s what she did to Al Franken.

        • Treant

Then we need to strip Leann of every single honor and award she’s ever received, destroy her career, and render her homeless and starving, preferably to be torn apart by wild dogs. Slowly. While orphans chant disharmonic and disturbing songs in the background.

/snark, except that’s the way people seem to be thinking

RIght now, we’re leaning toward, “If she accuses, he’s guilty.” That’s wrong and I won’t jump on that train (and no, I won’t fucking shut up about it). It’s unethical, immoral, and violates the law.

The solution’s imperfect, but I’m falling toward the same one the law uses. If we’re outside of the Statute of Limitations and it was two adults, tell it to the Marines because I don’t want to hear it. It can’t be prosecuted, therefore it can’t be proven, and I’m not going to ruin a career on that one.

I’m going to throw a much wider net in terms of adults molesting children or teenagers. All of them get until they’re 30, and I’ll extend that depending on circumstances.

Furthermore, one accusation doesn’t hold enough water to sink a ship. Two with no connections…you’re getting warm. Three…yes. As noted above, something that means no harm can be taken the wrong way.

I don’t see that Franken’s photo–intentionally set up, obviously–intended harm. I don’t see that Leann’s groping, inappropriate though it was, intended harm. And neither “victim” took enough umbrage at the time to say or do anything about it.

          • Lumpy Gaga

Just to be clear, the nut of Leann’s story is set in a private – only two people in the “room” – jerry-rigged rehearsal space. As many have posted, the kiss and the photo are two entirely separate events.

I watched nearly all of her interview with rapt Jake Tapper, and she comes off as someone who had a chip on her shoulder before they ever found themselves together alone in that “room”. (And she maintained it for long after, but if her story is true, I can’t say I blame her.)

She needs a “bitchy aside” coach, as in, someone who will electrocute her every time she utters one. It does not help her.

          • Treant

For inconsistency, I threw her story. Call me when she can even lie convincingly.

Y’know, if he and his kind had not fought so hard against the civil and legal benefits of marriage (the parts NOT in Brian’s God’s hand, in other words, but purely the human social construct) being awarded to same sex couples, it’s entirely possible that marriage would not be legal in the US even now. If good and just civil unions that honestly gave same sex couples the same rights and benefits as everyone else had been a fairly simple and easy no brainer, chances are fairly good that the fight would have been over for a whole lot of people.

But his crowd chose to make it a fight to the bitter end, and that’s what they got. And they lost.

    • Ninja0980

That was actually their biggest blunder.
There were many same sex couples that would have taken civil unions or domestic partnerships but when the bigots pushed their bans and made it clear the only thing they wanted us to have was nothing, might as well as go all in.

Oh boy, with the explicit warning, there’s going to be a lot of good christ stains pleasuring themselves over this article.

    • AlternativeQuacks

Okay, this is where I part ways with the current frenzy. This is exactly the kind of story where I think it’s going over the line. Presumably, since he was “going to school in Ohio”, Hull would have been a college student or post-grad, and therefore an adult. I hate to have to defend a hypocritical, Perkkkins-supported candidate, but there is nothing illegal about Goodman asking Hull to have sex with him and his wife. This whole thing is starting to veer off into anti-everything-having-to-do-with-sex, as these things always do in America, because that neurotic Puritan infection that America has always had refuses to die. And it’s really starting to piss me off. When people engage in tactics like this, regardless of who the target is, it legiitimizes that whole mentality of patholigizing/criminalizing all sex.

      • djcoastermark

True, there is nothing wrong with adults doing adult things. However, this exposes the hypocrisy of the whole bunch of holier than thou’s. Even if the whole thing is messed up.

        • Dreaming Vertebrate

It’s their shameless hypocrisy which is so annoying, plus they pass laws designed purely to hurt people.

So you think it’s ok for a legislator or candidate to be trolling for dick like he’s on Grindr, from college age (or really any age) campaign operatives who are working for him or the party he represents? You think it’s ok for him to send unsolicited texts like the ones Caleb posted?

I’m no prude but it is not ok to be soliciting campaign workers for sex imo.

        • AlternativeQuacks

I had to go look them up.

The text messages are unprofessional, inappropriate, hypocritical, tacky and gross (and, ironically, not at all sexy, which I think is what he was aiming for). But they’re not illegal, unless there’s some text-messaging law I’m unaware of.

          • SoCalGal20

Sure, they’re not illegal and I don’t think anybody was saying they were. Somebody could file a civil suit for harrassment, though.

But there’s also nothing wrong with Caleb publishing an article on all the gross and tacky things Wes Goodman texted to people in the workplace.

          • Priya Lynn

Its not about the legality of this, its about the hypocrisy of being anti-gay while doing these things.

The conversation stayed on the “ladies” equivalent of the above…until after most of the desserts were eaten. Then, I dunno, maybe a combination of the caffeine and sugar kicked in, because POLITICS erupted!

I mean, erupted in an entirely good way: it was All.Trump.Bashing.All.The.Time!!! (w/ Moore bashing also, of course).

Even if I ain’t no lady…I love my Episcopal choir!

          • Cuberly Deux

Considering Donnie’s approval I’m beginning to think it’s relatively safe to bash him out in the open now.

I’ll match it as the most loathsome with “Seasons in the Sun”. That was all over the AM dial, along with “Horse With No Name,” another stinker. We did not have joy, we did not have fun, no preciouss.

Weddings? There were those two dreckies, “Butterfly Kisses”, and the execrable “Wedding Song (There is Love)”—in which Peter, Paul & Mary (but mainly born-again Paul) undid all the good of their civil rights music. Barf!

OT: Well, I did the six color soap. Unfortunately, the fragrance I used accelerated on me, so it was going solid while I was trying to get it into the mold. So no photos of the top, where the chunkiest stuff ended up and is a mix of purple and white.

When I cut tomorrow, it should actually look fairly good. Thicker soap makes larger, blockier intrusions, like a child’s crayon drawing…and it looks like I got pretty close to full saturation on the color.

This ends the soap making for the season. After today, it has less than five weeks to cure, and that’s too short.

ZOMG, Tyrone Power! I had such a crush on him in my old-movie watching days (I spent my maladjusted teen years watching the late-late show—that’s a late night movie, kiddos, long before the days of “Turner Classic Movies”). “Crash Dive”, “The Luck of the Irish”, “Johnny Apollo”: the thang I had for Tyrone! [that he died—tragically young—4 years before my birth notwithstanding]. I believe I later read he was bi.

        • Ernest Endevor

He had a long relationship with a nice dentist in NYC. And he was only contractually bi, as in hide the gay or your career is over. Have you seen Alexander’s Ragtime Band? Mr Power at his most romantically beautiful in my fave musical film.

            I loved St. Elsewhere.

And it amazes me how much time was spent on shows in the 70s/80s on the opening. The shows all had theme songs and spent 60-90 seconds introducing the cast. The networks finally caught on that they were throwing away time that could be sold for ads.

          • Rob NYNY

One hour shows in my childhood had five minutes of commercials. Now, many one hour shows have 18-24 minutes of commercials. A friend of mine in show biz told me that the worst job in New York is cutting four minutes out of the hundreds of episodes of Law and Order, reducing them from 46 minutes to 42 minutes. You have to watch the same show six times, accelerate it by about 5%, cut exit music, cut reaction shots, cut plot lines and characters. All so that we can watch more commercials.

just say it quietly, or don’t say it at all. Moore is sinking his own ship, don’t interrupt.

      • AlternativeQuacks

There was a philosopher or scientist that was interviewed recently who said, “We are living in an era of aggressive stupidity.” That phrase really stuck in my mind.

EDIT: Found it! It was Salman Rushdie, in an interview about his latest novel. His actual quote was, “We are living in a culture of aggressive ignorance.” And, yes, he mentioned Trump several times in that interview.

His base is too stupid to understand that the GOP has been working to do that for years. It will be sweet to see them suffer since they aren’t likely to have any significant private retirement savings (IRA, 401K) since they thought those government programs that they hate would be there to support them.

      • Ninja0980

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

What’s really frightening is that the most people have saved for their retirement is the equity in their house at best. Some people have zero saved and I’m all “If you know you have zero saved up for after 65, why the hell do you keep voting GoP?” It’s maddening. They’re the ones who scream about moochers & takers but will be the first to bang on our doors, yelling, “you can’t expect me to eat out of a dumpster!”

            Yup.
Marvel has had much better success.

          • Cuberly Deux

I watched the first Avengers movie after so many people were swooning over it and I was completely confused as to what I was supposed to enjoy. The last 1/2 of the movie was a bunch of CGI that appeared to lack any sense of direction or meaning….and Hulk smash is the punch line after confus-o-rama.

We all have our preferences. 😉

          • Lazycrockett

Well to enjoy The Avengers you have to have watched some of the Iron Man and Thor movies but especially the Capt. America movies.

Marvel has done it right by introducing its characters before bring them together to fight the big bad.

          • Cuberly Deux

I watched all of the the prior movies, liked Iron Man. Thor was boring. Capt America was distractingly CGI laden.

Yeah, I recently saw “Lady Bird” and “Three Billboards.” Both were better than those movies featuring wisecracking mutants in tights. “Wonderstruck” is worth a look, though it was a bit too precious for my taste. “The Shape of Water” looks promising.

          • Cuberly Deux

Ladybird I will see, but Three Billboards, from the trailer, seems a bit hokey.

          • Dayglo

“Billboards” surprised me because it was a little cartoonish. Frances McDormand and Peter Dinklage were a joy to watch, though.

          • Lazycrockett

Frances seems to be kinda typecast into playing different variations of Fargo.

          • Dayglo

            Yep.

          • gaycuckhubby

Three Billboards was getting a lot of backlash from the usual crowd on twitter today… too much racist, homophobic, ableist language. It made people feel unsafe and they walked out.
            So, I’ll probably watch it.

WW2 is a go and Aquaman has already been filmed. Affleck wants to get out of the Batsuit and I honestly think Cavell, who I think makes a fine Supes, isn’t enjoying the direction of this version.

Hate to be a grammar/spelling troll in the age of spell check, so I suffer in silence…..but mixing up “council” and “counsel” ranks up there with “you’re” and “your”. Ouch….feels like driving over a particularly nasty speed bump, especially when not a typo.

In both cases they’re also playing real, living, not-so-famous people.

As an audience member I don’t want to see a fictionalized version of a personal romance (or just a point in the middle of a relationship). And if I subsequently find out in real life the romantic interest didn’t even exist, or they broke up when the movie shows them staying together, it degrades the rest of the movie for me.

Harare, Zimbabwe (CNN) Zimbabwe’sruling party has expelled Robert Mugabe as its chief and set a Monday deadline for the leader to end his presidency after nearly four decades of rule.

Members of Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party, which he co-founded to usher his country into independence, voted the 93-year-old President out on Sunday and said if
he didn’t announce his resignation by midday on Monday, they would move
    to impeach him in Parliament.

Caligula’s horse did not go on lavish shopping trips while Romans starved; nor was it accused of assaulting anyone with an electric cable in a hotel room. Grace Mugabe’s only qualification for high office was her marriage to Mr Mugabe, a man 41 years her senior with whom she began an affair while his first wife was dying. Her ambitions were thwarted this week when the army seized power, insisting that this was not a coup while making it perfectly clear that it was …

O/T Should a government be allowed to murder its citizens? UK, US, Australia, France have decided the answer is YES. My worry is that once you allow one group of people to be murdered, then any group can become a target (slippery slope).

Even the interviewer seemed surprised at the answer Rory Stewart, the U.K. minister of international development, gave about how Britain
should deal with citizens who chose to leave the country to join ISIS.

“I’m afraid we have to be serious about the fact these people are a
serious danger to us, and unfortunately the only way of dealing with
them will be, in almost every case, to kill them,
    ” Stewart told BBC

  • Does this fat Seppo whom 99.9999% of Australians have never heard of imagine that we and our Parliament are going to take orders from him?

  • Greg in Oz

The point noted well over here in Oz Brian is, that like it or not, for years you lot have been saying that you are the ‘silent majority’.
This vote – with nearly 80% participation rate – has demonstrated that while we all knew that the moniker ‘silent’ was never right, we now also know – with conviction – that this group is also very much not the ‘majority’. 62% vs 38%
More importantly, it is a wake up call for our members of Parliament, who now also realise that you faux Christians are VERY much a minority.
It’s almost the fastest loss of influence that I have ever seen.
The additional irony of this is that it was the religious right that pushed so hard for this vote to occur, totally uncomprehending how out of touch with the rest of society they are.
Of course, they’re now all screaming for protection from discrimination!
Now, while I am happy to say that no removal of discrimination to one group should, by default, be replaced by discrimination against another, different group (kind of defeats the notion of ‘equality’), personally, I am feeling large bits of schadenfreude over the thought that, after many, many, many years of persecution by the various religious faiths, they are receiving a small percentage of that discrimination directed at them!
Still, we are only halfway there.
The legislation is yet to get through the Parliament and already the Conservatives and faux Christian bodies are lining up trying to get exemptions built into the Marriage Act.
We still have to stop those actions before our real celebrations can begin!
But again, it just shows how Brian and his ilk are slowly dying the death of a thousand cuts – and I can’t deny I am revelling in just watching their worlds collapse
