PANAMA: Trump Building Tied To Russian Mafia

The Hill reports:

Investors and customers of the Trump Ocean Club International Hotel and Tower in Panama City carried deep ties to organized crime and drug trafficking, according to an NBC News and Reuters joint investigation.

A Brazillian real estate salesman who partnered with the Trumps to attract condo buyers for the tower told NBC that the Trumps and others connected to the project were unaware that he was attracting shady investors to the project, but that they never asked any questions.

“I had some customers with questionable backgrounds,” said Alexandre Ventura Nogueira, who spoke to NBC on camera but under disguise from an undisclosed European city.

More from Reuters:

It was not his job to check the source of money that investors used to buy units in the Trump Ocean Club, Nogueira said. “I didn’t know the money was coming from anything illegal. As long as they were doing wire transfers and not cash, I wasn’t worried about the source of it.”

Nogueira said that no one asked him about the source of funds. “Nobody ever asked me. The banks didn’t ask. The developers didn’t ask. The Trump Organization didn’t ask me. Nobody asked me: ‘Who are the customers? Where did the money come from?’”

And from NBC News:

Ivanka Trump is featured in a promotional video for the Trump Ocean Club, made in 2011, in which she praises “the beautiful pool decks” and “our 10,000-square-foot spa.”

“Buenos días,” she says in the video. “Hello, I’m Ivanka Trump. Welcome to Trump Ocean Club International Hotel and Tower, Panama, rising 70 stories above the glistening Panama Bay. We’ve taken inspiration from the beauty that surrounds us to create a new landmark for Panama.” She goes on to discuss such details as the “tropical color palette” and the carvings on the guestroom headboards.

“The Trump Organization has to approve everything because of his name on the project,” Ventura said, describing the project as Ivanka Trump’s “baby.”

  • Gustav2

This is how the Trump Org did business with thugs. They are never legally liable. From Reuters:

“Trump put his name to the development and stood to make up to $75 million from it, according to a bond prospectus for the project. He did not exert management control over the construction and was under no direct legal obligation to conduct due diligence on other people involved.”

They control everything, but with paperwork that says they are not in control.

    • Treant

Fortunately, they just have to follow what actually happened. As soon as they show there was management control… Well.

      • Gustav2

“Consultants” do not legally run/own the company, they may advise the company in everything the company does, but they are not liable.

        • Treant

Well, not until they’re in the money meetings grifting their own share.

Which we all know they would be.

  • PickyPecker
    • Treant

Hopefully she’ll soon need a new scent: “Incarcerated.”

      • Joe in PA

        Yes!

      • jerry

A stale and musty disinfectant scent.

      • lymis

Nah. I’d say “Convicted” goes better with “Complicit.”

All about the marketing, you know. You want to keep the branding consistent. It’s all about the “Con.”

        • Treant

We should put out one called “CONtempt of Court.”

    • JAKvirginia

That’s not Ivanka, me thinks. Looks like Scarlett Johansen, no?

      • lymis

Yes it does, but it’s from Saturday Night Live, and that’s Kate McKinnon playing Ivanka.

        • JAKvirginia

Ah, okay. My first reaction was ‘She’s too attractive to be Ivanka’.
          (And she is.)

      • Christopher

Yeah, it’s Johansson playing Ivanka on SNL.

  • Achilles Tsakiridis

    id rather eat glass …

  • I pray that the Trump brand becomes to uncategorically toxic that the bastard family loses EVERYTHING.

    • David L. Caster

I’ll wager there is a well hidden offshore account with a bunch of emergency money stashed in it.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

I remain astonished by the Panama City skyline. Such wealth there. These mega-cities have sprouted in my lifetime and are found in the most curious locations. Hmmm…..

    • William

Drug money has to settle someplace.

      • JCF

Drugs, guns, unfettered mineral extraction, money from slave labor…

    • Rambie

oddly where the laws are lacking and politicians can be bribed

      • BobSF_94117

It’s a good thing we invaded and straightened out the mess there…

        • Johnny Wyeknot

I was sitting next to Barbara Bush, with her hand patting my knee, the day of the *invasion.* Yes, I know that sounds strange. But it’s true. That’s why I posted it.

          • BobSF_94117

I think you should take to Twitter and demand an apology for the “sexual assault”.

          • Johnny Wyeknot

I have serious emotional scars..,but mostly caused by her costume pearls.

        • Rambie

Ah yes, Bush Sr’s short victorious war. He at least we didn’t get stuck in a quagmire like Jr left us in.

      • Butch

We accidentally drove into the Casco Viejo section of Panama City at night – I’ve never been so nervous. We stopped a policeman asking for directions for our way out and received the memorable instructions (this is serious), “when you realize you’re going the wrong way, turn.” (It turned out his directions led us up the off-ramp to the freeway.) We also were stopped by cops obviously looking for bribes more than once. A return to Panama is not on my list.

    • Christopher Judge Emmel

simple, great place to do ur laundry ….

  • PickyPecker
    • Lizard

You know how if you say a word over and over again, it loses all meaning and just becomes a sound?

Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. Russia. • David L. Caster

On one of those short floors with all the plumbing and HVAC equipment.

  • Michael R
  • PickyPecker
  • BobSF_94117

I wonder if we’ll ever understand the depth of the interaction between the GOP and other conservative political parties and the drug cartels.

    • David L. Caster

Historians will speculate based on fragmentary evidence. That’s about the best we can hope for.

      • BobSF_94117

Fragmentary evidence? They’ll rule America like they rule Russia. I think people will notice.

        • David L. Caster

People will notice something but probably not connect the dots. Unraveling the web of intrigue surrounding the Trump Empire will occupy whole careers of historians and investigators, much of which will only be understood well after the lives of us today. By then of course nothing of today’s crimes can be undone.

  • Tawreos

It might save time if we limited stories to just things that are associated with Trump and not with Russia. For instance….yeah I got nothing, oh well, carry on.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

The Traitor party will care not. They are boning for their pretend tax reform bill to satisfy the billionaires bribing them for what they want.

  • Rebecca Gardner
    • Treant

That’s a good photo of him. You can see his fangs starting to grow as the sun sets.

      • JCF

He was obviously bitten by the Drumpfs…

    • William

Sadly for Papadopoulous, Putin put a ‘Stop Payment’ on that check.

    • mr wonderful

      This guy has fangs!

      • Dreaming Vertebrate

        You should see Stephen MIller’s.

        • David Walker

Fangs, right? “You should see Stephen Miller’s” fangs.

        • JCF

I try to avoid looking at Stephen Miller too much. I fear the vacuum of his soullessness could suck out mine!

    • Tomcat

But he does not even know him.

I VUNT TO SAWK YOR BANK ACCOUNT

  • PickyPecker

OT: Does anyone else find it oddly disturbing that there has been very little in the MSM about the pipeline leak that popped yesterday? I dropped in on several morning shows and nada. My local news (on their national coverage) was also nada. Just more and more on Fraken and Moore.

    • Gustav2

Oil spills are not scandals anymore, not sexy.

    • Hue-Man

      What’s more mainstream than WaPo?

Keystone pipeline spills 210,000 gallons of oil on eve of permitting decision for TransCanada

      • Butch

I do think the criticism that the Franken and Moore stories have been crowding out other very important issues (such as the tax “reform”) is legitimate.

      • JCF

        The TeeVee.

    • William

There are no photos of Democratic politicians grabbing the oil spills boobs.

      • BobSF_94117

Yes, but it’s early in the day. Patience, patience…

    • John30013

One of the MSNBC nighttime shows covered it briefly last night, but certainly not to the degree they covered the political stories.

      • Tomcat

Got to get gas prices up somehow.

    • Christopher

Glad somebody else noticed. I made that comment to the Hubbinator just this morning.

    • Christopher Judge Emmel

look who owns your “news” …

Have we not all concluded that the Trumps are “Russian Mafia”?

This is the 2nd cheap ripoff of the Burj Al Arab hotel tRUMP has slapped his name on, they could at least made the inside of this ripoff look pink & moist.

      • BobSF_94117

And I suspect Trump not only doesn’t see the difference, he probably thinks his is better.

        • Philly Mike

When I first saw trump purchase trump tower in NYC and saw the extent of demolition I was excited, yes I admit that but it was 1983. I suddenly realized from my vantage point it was a code minimal renovation wrapped in veneer.

          • BobSF_94117

It’s all about the surface. His buildings are poor ripoffs of architectural gems. His daughter’s shoes are all ripoffs of real designs by other fashion designers.

His profit margins are higher, though, as a result.

Looking forward to seeing Ben again on the upcoming RPDR All-Stars 3 (in January, I think?)

  • worstcultever

When this nightmare is finally over – if ever – I would like to see the current-day version of the Nuremburg Trials, or a truth and reconciliation commission, require the demolition of all Trump buildings worldwide.

Can you imagine the joy of the world, watching Trump Tower in NYC dynamited to the ground in dust and rubble? It would be like the anti-9/11. A beautiful, soul-cleansing catharsis of hope and renewal.

    • olandp

      But highly toxic.

    • No, that would be a monumental waste of resources. What would be better is to turn them into sensible housing for the working poor, housing for elders, schools and grocery stores and a free medical center for the residents.

  • j.martindale

It doesn’t make any difference anymore. The country is owned by the mob. They call themselves the Republican Party, but it is basically the mob.

    • canoebum

They started to dismantle, disrupt and destroy the Federal government in 1980, with St. Ronnie. They are almost finished with the the job. Adding another 1.7 trillion to the national debt will fulfill their wet dream of seeing it all in an ash heap.

      • stevenj

IMO the process started in the 1950’s. Eisenhower warned the nation in his last speech in 1960.

        • bzrd

Interesting to remember, though, 5% interest on savings, the wealthy paid big bucks in taxes as did companies, inflation was non existent and the economy was booming.

  • Joe in PA

If only we had known about this before he was elected.

    http://thefederalist.com/2015/07/28/how-close-was-donald-trump-to-the-mob/

    • Treant

I know, right? Surely the Republican Party had ways to shut this down if this news had come out in, say, the middle of 2015…

      • geoffalnutt

        They love it!!!!

  • TrueWords

Look I am going to tell you a short and easy story…

The US Banks stopped lending money to Trump and his dealings back in 2002 but started up again in 2004 and officially said NO MORE in 2008 therefore where do you think he got his money from?

    • David Walker

Well, don’t look at me !

      • TrueWords

that is funny…I chuckled out loud…

        • David Walker

tRump. Driving a wedge through the Panama City skyline and profiting in the gap. Much like every other thing tRump encounters.

Any bets on when this enterprise will go quietly bankrupt? My money is on 2025, unless either expensive eldercare or skyrocketing legal fees accelerates the need for cash.
