Wife Of Pulse Shooter Claims No Knowledge Of Plot, Says Husband Was Cheating Via Dating Sites [VIDEO]

The Orlando Sentinel reports:

Attorneys for the wife of Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen wrote in a motion filed on Monday that he was using online dating websites such as Plenty of Fish to cheat on her. Noor Salman’s attorneys said in the motion that Mateen used a mutual friend as a cover story so he could go out with other women.

Salman told the FBI her husband told her the night before the attack he was going out with this friend. Salman’s attorneys argue this is relevant because Mateen was actively trying to hide what he was doing from his wife. Salman claims she knew nothing of the attack.

The friend, named Nemo, told FBI investigators that Mateen asked him to lie for him if his wife ever called. “And this is a statement he made to me, because he had a bad habit of — he was married, he was married, but he went behind his wife’s back and did a lot of stuff on the side on whatever website,” Nemo told FBI agents, according to the filing. “Plenty of Fish or whatever it was. Arablounge. He even mentioned Craigslist to me. Hooking up with women. Hooking up with older women.”

More from the New York Daily News:

The documents also point out the FBI has interviewed more than 10 women from different dating sites and escort services, discovering that at least four of them met the gunman in person. “On at least one occasion, Mateen succeeded in cultivating a romantic relationship between 2015 and March 2016 while married to Ms. Salman.”

Her attorney additionally requested text messages between the pair the morning of the attack be admitted into evidence as well as Salman’s medical records in a bid to establish a pattern of domestic violence.

Salman’s trial as an accomplice is scheduled to begin in March. She faces a life sentence.

If his skin color had been lighter he would have been a Republican.

    • Todd20036

If his skin color were lighter, he’d have been called a lone wolf, a mental patient, but not a terrorist.

      • Natty Enquirer

I kind of doubt it in this case, since Mateen told 911 about his revenge motives and allegiance to ISIL.

  • boatboy_srq

Hooking up with women. Hooking up with older women.

This is why the Reichwingnuts go for the younger ones: they’re so much less trouble when they’ve been Brought Up Right.

This is what happens when this nation does not think or pray hard enough. Quick, send your thoughts and prayers out to combat any more gun related violence today!

    • safari

It’s just a thing that happens.

      • Jonathan Smith

NO. it IS NOT just a thing that happens.
this is a thing we ALLOW to happen.
        2 CHILDREN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

        • Bluto

          Merely the price of freedom.
goddamn I’m so fed up with this BS.

  • another_steve

I always find it incredulous when the wives and girlfriends of these mass-killers allege not having known anything about the killer’s intentions.

Please. What manner of relationship did they have?

How “shallow” can a human relationship possibly be?

    • boatboy_srq

One more reason I still don’t completely get hetero relationships.

    • Rebecca Gardner

As a survivor of physical, psychological, and emotional domestic violence it is more likely than not that the wife had absolutely no idea what so ever. The psychological damage done by abusers is intense and completely incomprehensible until you live it, which I hope you never do.

      • boatboy_srq

Hear, hear. Brava. And congratulations on your escape.

      • Gustav2

You don’t dare ask and are bit more relaxed when the abuser leaves. But are on the lookout for the return.

      • Uncle Mark

Salman’s previous wife had clearly been abused, and had to flee to her parents’ home. I have little doubt, the self-hating closet-case made it a regular pattern to abuse the women in his life.

        • Jonathan Smith

          “closet case”
do NOT lump him in with the “gayz”
          please

      • another_steve

I can of course appreciate the extent of the psychological damage, Rebecca, but still…

If you’re a mentally competent adult and you spend extensive time with another human being, you have no inkling whatsoever that you’re dealing with a potential killer? A madman?

        None whatsoever?

        • Rebecca Gardner

I lived in fear for my life every single day.

He would put a .44 magnum to my head and tell me if I ever call the police on him he will blow my brains out.

After beating me he would tell me, “Baby girl, don’t you know? There’s men, dogs, livestock, then women.”

He accused me of fucking my boss, in front of my boss.

He beat me unconscious because his football team lost.

That list doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the abuse. Did I think he was a potential killer? Yes, of only me. To his friends and co-workers he was an awesome guy. Did I ever think he would grab one of his guns and kill a bunch of people? Never!

Like I said, until you live it you will never be able to comprehend it.

          • Bambino

Abusers are known to be charmers to outsiders. Even reading what you described gave me chills and makes me angry at those assholes at the same time.

          • Rebecca Gardner

OH MY! He was so awesome when we were dating. Kind, loving, sharing, giving. He wined and dined me. We would travel together and have so much fun. I felt safe, secure, loved when with him. Being in his arms was the best feeling in my life. So, after dating a long time and feeling I truly knew him we moved in together. Then he moved me to the other end of the country. Then he controlled all the finances. The he gave me a new cell phone. By time I realized how isolated I was and in a situation I was unable to escape from is when the psychopath came out. That’s how these psychopaths work.

          • Bambino

Classic MO of an abuser. Not that different from a serial killer.

          • McSwagg

You are courageous to share your story. There will always be those who will minimize or deny your experience because they haven’t lived with abuse and can’t really imagine its effects. Your story resonates with me because I grew up in an abusive home. It took me decades to even admit to myself the truth of the situation because it was my “normal”. Thankfully, it gave me a sixth sense that warned me of danger even before I could articulate what that danger even was. I know that I have definitely avoided several abusive relationships as a result. It’s wonderful that you escaped and have been able to move on with your life. Take care of yourself.

          • another_steve

Thanks for sharing your story, Rebecca.

            Love to you, my friend.

          • Rebecca Gardner

You are very welcome. I wasn’t trying to argue, just educate.

Domestic violence is horrible. I was completely ignorant of it until I lived it.

        • Bambino

Many serial killers, pedophiles, murderers, robbers, thieves and abusers have spouses. The spouses of these people are not necessary complicit to their behavior.

          • another_steve

Of course. The issue (in my mind, at least) is: They had no inkling? None whatsoever?

I understand why the abused partner or spouse may be fearful of going to the police. I get that.

            But… no inkling whatsoever?

          • Bambino

When people fall in love, it is very easy to put on the blinders to ignore signs of incompatibility let alone paying attention to signs of trouble flaring up. Unless you are surrounded by good families and friends who warns you about the trap you are walking into. More often than not, you would ignore their warning anyway because you are bought into the idea of love. While I personally did not have the horrible experience of Rebecca, I was conned by a guy who said and do the right thing in front of me. Not until I retold my story to the investigators did I sounded so stupid.

          • another_steve

            Perhaps, Bambino.

How fickle, this human heart of ours.

        • The_Wretched

          Try listening

    • Bambino

A lot of couples get into a relationship not knowing about each other before hand. Many got married for superficial reasons.

    • marshlc

When you are intimately involved with a dangerous violent asshole, your energies go toward protecting yourself, and placating him. When he’s not home, you’re not worrying about what he’s out doing to someone else, you’re just grabbing a moment of peace, if you can. And worrying that whatever he’s doing while out will make him come home in a bad mood.

  • Lazycrockett

Umm didn’t she help him case the place prior to the shooting?

  • Rebecca Gardner

But “Plenty of Fish” was the unexpected link.

        • Bluto

What self-respecting woman would frequent a site called that.

          • Reality.Bites

It’s as in “plenty of fish in the sea” and it’s quite a popular dating site, considered more respectable than apps like tinder or grindr. I met one boyfriend and one good friend through there. (It’s all sexes and orientations, and allows you to filter what you’re interested in, so I didn’t see women’s profiles and they couldn’t see mine.)

(I should have said, considered more respectable by some people and that I’m not that sort of person. I met my previous and my current boyfriend on grindr.

          • Bluto

I understand but “fish” is a bad euphemism when females are involved.

      • Lumpy Gaga

        BAD DOG!

  • Bad Tom

WHY DID YOU DRIVE HIM THERE?

What’s the percentage of domestic violence incidents involving a firearm that’s between cisgendered couples? Maybe it’s the heterosexuality that’s really to blame.

      • JCF

Inasmuch it would be nice to think so, there are terrible domestic violence issues in the LGBT community as well. Get guns away from ALL abusers, straight-gay-bi-lesbian-trans!
