ALABAMA: Fake Robocall Pretends To Be Jewish WaPo Reporter Seeking Dirt On Roy Moore [AUDIO]

“Hi, this is Bernie Bernstein, I’m a reporter for the Washington Post calling to find out if anyone at this address is a female between the ages of 54 to 57 years old willing to make damaging remarks about candidate Roy Moore for a reward of between $5000 and $7000 dollars.

“We will not be fully investigating these claims however we will make a written report. I can be reached by email at [email protected], thank you.” – From the fake robocall, delivered in a stereotypical Jewish/New York accent, sent out in Alabama today.

Breitbart has reported on the call without questioning its authenticity. Interesting, yes?

  • WaPo needs to file a defamation and slander lawsuit IMMEDIATELY.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

      Yes, yes they do.

    • JAX

      The question is: Against whom?

      • That’s for the discovery phase. There’ll be phone records.

        • Lizard

Just like the little shits in high school who harassed me and my family with obscene phone calls, phone records will reveal the truth.

          • So very sorry you had to endure that. (((hugs)))

          • Lizard

            Thank you 🙂

      • margaretpoa

Somebody paid for that effort. A subpoena should be able to discover who.

      • marshlc

There’s a whole newspaper full of highly motivated investigative reporters already on the trail to find out.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Bernie Bernstein…really? That’s what they went with? Yeah, not at all obvious. Fake Jesus on a stick, even when they pretend to be the people they hate, they still get it wrong. Morons, morons all….oh and sleazy, scumsucking reporbate cheating fuckwads.

  • Pollos Hermanos

Apparently Jewie Jewsenberg was too over the top.

    • Lizard

      Jewie Jewenstein!

      (I’m going to hell.)

    • melllt

Jewie McJewsenberg was considered, but rejected because it wasn’t obvious enough.

      • safari

        Beat me to the McMadness.

      • And the ‘Mc’ would confuse Alabamans.

        • Reality.Bites

You just tell them that’s the name a fast food chain is required to use in New York City.

And then you tell the chain is Chik-fil-a.

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

            Oooh thats a good snap

        • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

          “Pull” and “Push” confuse Alabamans.

      • Nic Peterson

Any relation to the Kushners? Maybe through a marriage?

    • MB

Isn’t he the brother of Harvey Liebovitzenstein ???
      😉

    • “Shlomo Sorosenstein”

      • E.J.

Shlomo is the NY Times reporter……That call will be next week.

    • zhera

I’m surprised they didn’t use Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. The ignorant people who believe the robocall would believe it with those names, as well.

    • Someone else came up with it, but I’m preferential to Shlomo Jewgold.

    • teeveedub
      • Michael R

He just has a bit of the genecktecessoink. No big whoop. Go on.

Hammer time! One of the very few Hanukkah movies! (but not appropriate for most children)

      • juanjo54

It is almost time for the annual viewing of this movie, my antidote to the season.

        • B Snow

It’s been in our Netflix queue for years and we never quite manage to put it at the top for Hanukkah…..

    • Todd20036

      How about “Israel McJewface?

    • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Like, who would have even believed that? Other than voters in Alabama, I mean.

    • Comixbear

I’m not sure which is more offensive to me…That the GOP thinks that people are stupid enough to fall for this obvious piece of hackery….or that people ARE stupid enough to fall for this obvious piece of hackery.

    • jerry

The name and the M.O. have James O’Keefe written all over it. He’s had some quite spectacular fails recently, so he probably had time to put this together for some RW PAC.

  • MBear

    LMFAO

  • Henry Auvil

Bernie Bernstein?! LOL!! You can just imagine the nose on that jew. But I guess he’s really good with money.

  • Mike in Texas

Did anyone listen past “Bernie Bernstein”?

  • Michael R

    1. How did they get the numbers ?
2 . Is this illegal several ways ?

    • 1. Robocalls can be targeted by exchange/location or just call a shit-ton of sequential numbers in a given area code
      2. Yes

  • gaycuckhubby

I wonder what will happen first. Tony Perkins putting out a press release condemning Love winning in Australia or a statement condemning Moore abusing minors

    • Friday

      He’s already taken Moore’s side. 🙂

  • teeveedub

These stupid fuckers will stop at nothing, even to their own ultimate detriment.

  • margaretpoa

Hear that, Republicans in Alabama? The GOP thinks you’re stupid. Prove them wrong.

    • Talisman

      Not even possible.

    • teeveedub

I don’t think your entreaties will help. They revel in their own stupidity.

      • margaretpoa

        Apparently

    • MBear

  • Michael R
  • Mike C

Again, when you think the bar couldn’t get any lower….

  • safari

Close your eyes. What was the name of the family of bears in that children’s book series?

    • Lizard

I think Michael R beat you to it.

      • safari

Not quite. It’s Bernstain, not Bernstein. People from the other reality remember the latter, not the former.

        • OCW

          actually it is Berenstain

          • safari

            O_O
            The plot thickens.

        • perversatile

          Even better-
How did the evil queen in Disney’s ‘Snow White’

  • coram nobis

Maybe they were trying to make people think this was the reporters from the WaPo, you know, Charles Bornstein or Rob Woodwood? “All The Presidents Then” movie.

    • Natty Enquirer

You mean the guys from Vasergeyt?

  • safari

False Flag. Alabama doesn’t have telephone techology.

  • Natty Enquirer

I would call it “high-school” but that’s an insult to high school students. Love the unmistakably southern accent creeping in at “investigating.”

What high school? They don’t cotton to higher lairnin’.

  • paulrees100

    OT:

On Aug. 3 of last year, just as the US presidential election was entering its final, heated phase, the Russian foreign ministry sent nearly $30,000 to its embassy in Washington. The wire transfer, which came from a Kremlin-backed Russian bank, landed in one of the embassy’s Citibank accounts and contained a remarkable memo line: “to finance election campaign of 2016.”

    https://www.buzzfeed.com/jasonleopold/secret-finding-60-russian-payments-to-finance-election?utm_term=.qdkdQREAV#.vrOo1WP7K

      • safari

        Indeed. It makes no sense.

They never expected anyone to look in a folder titled “Illegal Acts I’ve Committed”

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

My Dino sense is tingling, and tells me the deplorable freaks behind this transparent robocall are all connected to Breitbart in some way. Just another example of how the Mercer’s money is being used to sow bigotry and hate.

    • BJORN RAGNVALDR

Connected to? My little leathery buddy, I’d say it WAS belchfart behind this.

    • Reality.Bites

This may be in poor taste, but would not dinosaurs be better off fitted with Dino sense that works on, say, the approach of meteors, rather than human politics?

      • Dreaming Vertebrate

Wouldn’t humans be better off, if more of them had the sense not to vote for imbeciles like Dotard Trump?

Alejandro Burzaco, a witness for the prosecution in the case, said in court that he was aware of six media companies involved in bribes, including Fox, O Globo from Brazil, Media Pro from Spain, and Televisa from Mexico.

Fox Sports is by far the largest of the group, however, and is owned by 21st Century Fox, the multinational conglomerate controlled by Rupert Murdoch.”

    • BobSF_94117

It’s not illegal anymore for U.S. companies to bribe officials in foreign countries.

  • ultragreen

For some reason, I’m not ‘shocked’ at all that such fake robo-calls have occurred. I hope someone is able to trace the calls to the original source and figure out who is really behind them. It wouldn’t surprise me if Roy Moore himself authorized them.

    • Natty Enquirer

That would take a subpoena for phone company records.

Sad fights like this have to happen.
Sadder still is that unlike David, there are many LGBT people who never recover the relationship they had with their parents.
Come next month on December 2nd, when New York’s State Senate voted down a marriage equality bill in 2009, my friend’s “parents” made a facebook post celebrating that fact and how their tough “love” which included throwing him out of the house didn’t “fix” him but hopefully rejection of marriage equality in NY and elsewhere would and he would come back to Jeebus and the church.
Suffice to say, that was the final nail in the coffin for him.
Yes, even after the previous things they had said and done to him, he still hoped they would come around.
That post made it obvious that was never going to happen.
It has been almost eight years since that awful day and he hasn’t spoken to his “parents” since and vice versa.
Sad to say but you know that is going to be the case in Australia as well.
And all because people take the word of some crap written thousands of years ago.
    I will never get that.
End of rant, back to celebration!

O/T: There appears to be an attempted military coup taking place in Zimbabwe against the massive homophobe, Mugabe. Some headlines: “Soldiers takeover Zimbabwe broadcaster.” “Zimbabwe’s military chief accused of treasonable conduct.” “At least 3 explosions in Zimbabwe’s capital.”

  • Silver Badger

OT: Every year I have to roust out homeless people trying to get out of the cold, by sleeping in our trash/storage locker rooms. Every year they keep getting younger. It breaks my heart to have to send someone my grand-kids age out into the cold and dark, but I don’t have a lot of choice in the matter. I’ve reached an age to where giving shelter to strangers is ill advised. There are no shelters in our area. It’s either kick them out or call the cops and file charges. I hate it, but as always, I do what I have to do. Sorry for the downer folks, but I needed to talk to someone. Thank you.

        • TuuxKabin

You’re the building superintendent? Large guard/herder dog would be good. Their instincts would be on your side while herding instinct would keep them ’rounded up’ away from you is my experience.

          • Silver Badger

Yep. I’m one of the resident owners and the facility manager. I am considering another dog. I’m not quite ready to take on that responsibility again. I’ve buried so many over the years, and now I would have to worry about maybe leaving one an orphan as well.

    • This a shared space managed by a landlord? You might want to have a chat about the need for locked access.

I am the facility manager. We have many locks as it is, but I am going to add at least 4 more tomorrow. I locked down the other building a year ago. After tonight, I’ll have support to spend the money for extra locks.

Same here in NY on the state level.
Drives me nuts when some folks downplay some of the seats flipped last week here when they were in the reddest parts of our state.

        • The GOP leadership is gonna be panicking about all this.

The one marquis race they have the best chance of winning…and their candidate is a child molester. And they keep losing these special and off-year elections at the state level.

True, the Dems couldn’t flip those other seats during the earlier special elections, but it could well be it’s taken this long for the Donald fatigue and rage to really set in.

          • Ninja0980

I know the GOP here in NY (including my Rep) are sweating bullets.
If the red parts of NY are getting flipped now, then next year will be a bloodbath for any GOP in a swing district and even red ones.
I will say my district will be one of the ones to watch next year.
If Katko goes, it will be a lonnng night for the GOP.

O/T but did want to do another mini-rant.
Yes most of the Trump judicial nominations have been white men but the few women and POC he has nominated (and have been confirmed) to the courts are just as horrible in all areas in regards to LGBT rights, voting rights, reproductive rights etc.
IMO, this is one area where pushing race and gender is a bad idea because if there is another SCOTUS nominee, I can bet my house it’s going to be a woman or POC like Clarence Thomas was.
Focus on how out of the mainstream these guys/gals are and not their race/gender.
Other areas we can point out race and gender but not on the judges.
    End rant.

    • Talisman

The oldest SCOTUS justices are Ginsberg (84), Kennedy (81), & Breyer (79). We lose any one of them while a repuglicant is in office, and we lose the progressive social agenda. The odds aren’t favorable.

Kennedy is inconstant – he has been an ally on social issues, but a foe on others. The signs say he is ready to retire.

Ginsberg is not in the best of health. She’s had both colon cancer & pancreatic cancer. She also has a stent, which suggests some cardiac issues.

Information on Breyer’s health is unavailable.

The fourth oldest is Clarence Thomas (69).

      • Ninja0980

Kennedy is still one of the most conservative justices to ever serve and the fact he is seen as a moderate shows you how far to the right the Republicans have been able to take the judicial branch too.

  • gaycuckhubby
    • Lizard

That could be a coincidence. Some counties only have one high school.

Yeah. I just thinks it begs the question… how did he first meet his wife?

        • Lizard

Stories conflict, actually. Once he said it was a dance recital, once at a church Christmas party. Some say he first saw her at a dance recital in her teens and they later met up at the party.

          • gaycuckhubby

Hmmm… everything about Roy is creepy and suspicious.

          • Lizard

Moore is indeed creepy and suspicious, but the fact that an accuser and his future wife were classmates isn’t all that surprising and doesn’t necessarily indicate anything nefarious. There might have only been one high school in that area and county high schools can be large. I didn’t know 95% of my class when I graduated.

Now, if there was proof that they’d recently communicated, that might be suspicious.

          • gaycuckhubby

I don’t think it was illegal. Just icky.

          • Lizard

            Oh, hell yeah. Definitely icky.

Bet that’s an awkward class reunion…

          • -M-

Point is the woman he married was in high school when he was thirty-something and preying on teenagers.

          • Lizard

Again, that doesn’t seem surprising to me. It indicates a consistent pattern for preference–women around 15 years younger than him.

          • -M-

It’s encouraging that at least they aged with him, but it does reinforce the impression that it was his pattern to go after teens as a thirty year old.

But we already knew that. He pursued several teenagers when he was in his thirties. This is already documented.

I guess what I don’t understand is why the high school classmate thing is a revelation. I thought people were implying that that the wife and victim might have been friends and been planning this to some greater end than we see.

          • -M-

No. Just the icky realization that his wife is the same age cohort as the girl he tried to rape.

So was Kayla the one that didn’t get away?

That they first met near a mall store’s dressing room is total coincidence.

I’m assuming he was talking about the shooting in California

    https://twitter.com/TheDweck/status/930659528013627392

    • No, I honestly think Donald believes the entire country put itself on hold while he was gone.

“Gee Jim, we’ve got another mass shooting, dozens dead in this here church.”
“Well, I guess we can haul away the bodies before they start decomposing, but we gotta wait for the President to get back before anybody can even touch the crime scene.”
“Yup. Until he gives the green light, we sit tight. What’s on TV tonight anyway?”
      “Another shooting…California this time.”
“Lucky them. President Trump will be back soon.”

The FBI and Law Enforcement HAVE arrived…. “smart college man”.

  • kevin000

This is so bad that it’s unbelievable. But what if this really is the set up for a reveal right before the election of some email showing that actually came from some democratic group? The backlash from angry Republicans could result in Moore winning and Washington Republicans coming together behind him. It’s more devious than I would generally credit Republicans with but not all of them are dumber than a box of rocks.

    • Please. Get a grip.

    • Lizard

You’re leaning dangerously into conspiracy theory territory there, mate.

    • David Walker

I’m returning to the more cynical side. I think I will be surprised if Moore loses. Seriously. It has nothing to do with issues or sex and all about continuing “the good fight” won last year and, as several of the honorable banana republicans have said, “It’s more important to achieve our agenda.” This is comedy to them.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

It would be stupid for any dem group to do this. Because honestly, what the hell tops being a child predator?

No, I think it’s a GOP group doing what they think will make their base go “libtards!”

  • gaycuckhubby
    • Lazycrockett

If we run, we win. That is what this wave is showing.

      • Ninja0980

I know Republicans in NY are shitting their pants right now.
The victories we got last week point to a statewide wipeout and they know it.
Too bad they decided Republicans like Richard Hanna should be shoved aside in favor of folks like Chris Collins.
They are going to be wiped out here next year and they won’t have anyone but themselves to blame.

        • Lazycrockett

Im interested to see how many red districts actually has dems running in the mid west. Too often the GOP run unchallenged time and time again.

          • Ninja0980

            Yup.
The most surprising thing last year in 2016 was what happened in Kansas.
Despite the horrible things that happened nationwide, many of the koch brother Republicans either lost to moderate Republicans(like my grandparents were) or to Democrats, the biggest one being Blue Dog turned Republican Janice Pauls.
And if we can do that last year, we can certainly do it next year and in 2020.

        • Ross

They will be wiped out IF we have honest elections.

The #1 issue should be: PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!!!!!!!!

        That’s kinda radical thinking.

      IMHO
This is what happens when the Democrats field a candidate that isn’t a member of AARP.

I am not saying the ‘old’ Democrats are not qualified, but young ones bring out voters.

      • Tulle Christensen

seems to help if the candidate is not a cis-male too

      • jerry

It’s not necessarily age…a lot of districts that were reliably Republican, it’s difficult to get a serious, electable candidate to run. But this shows what can happen.

  • OT — I have a ticket to see Book of Mormon for the first time (tour company visiting locations in Florida right now) so in honor of the marriage equality vote in Australia here is an adorable performance from Tom Ragen’s channel by the Village Full Time with cute Aussie boys and girls of “Turn if Off” — and they tap dance! • Lizard

To be fair, it just says they’ll discuss the introduction, not that they’ll actually introduce them yet. With all the indictments falling recently, they might be hammering out ideas for how to move forward if Drumpf is eventually personally implicated.

        • Max_1

Cong. Goddlette is the Judiciary Chair… it all begins from his committee. Today many a Dem accused Sessions of lying under oath.

          Well see tomorrow…

          • thatotherjean

Sessions was either lying under oath, or so forgetful that he has less than no business being Attorney General of the United States. If you believed him, you’d doubt that Russia even existed, since he has no recollection at all of talking to anyone remotely connected with it.

        • Let’s just say I’m not getting my hopes up. There’ve been ample grounds for impeachment since Jan 21.

The real question is whether the Washington Post and the New York Times will identify the party affiliation, not only of the Members on whose behalf U.S. taxpayers paid $15 million, but also the party that controlled the House while the harassment took place.

Of course, will the Post and the Times note that the only reason Congressional staff had a forum to which to make complaints was thanks to Newt Gingrich (R) and the Republicans’ 1994 Contract with America, which promised that Congress would hold votes to place itself under laws covering other workplaces in the U.S.

Before then, during decades of Democratic control of the House, Congressional staff had no recourse.

      None.

They didn’t have to worry about not being believed, because no official entity would listen to them.

That’s why Capitol Hill was called “The Last Plantation.”

He had his ego pandered to so much that he 1, pledged allegiance to Putin. 2, reneged on his campaign promise to hold China responsible for currency manipulation. 3, cowered from Kim Jong Un’s “old” insult. 4, failed to put the Phillipine president on the spot for drifting out of an alliance with the US. And 5, casting into doubt the future of the trade relationship with Japan.

But hey, at least he got to hear a song about himself being sung by a mass murdering dictator.

I usually flag them, but don’t immediately block them. That way I could flag “Andrea” for both SPAM and impersonation (of a real human being).

Of course, now it’s for people to figure out whether this is an incredibly stupid move that’s intended seriously by a Moore supporter, or an intentionally stupid move intended to damage Moore by a Moore opponent (Calling Turdblossom!) or a twisted attempt to make Moore look good by making it look like his opponents tried to damage him this way.

It should be straightforward to figure out who paid for the robobcalls. If anyone actually bothers to look into it.

    • Reality.Bites

My guess it’s an attempt to shore up whatever percentage of the deplorables are only mostly deplorable and make them doubt the truth of the accusations because that and that alone is the only reason they’re considering not supporting Moore.

Because for you or me, even if we believed Moore was being targeted unfairly, there’s still no reason to ever consider supporting him.

  • Chris Bartlett

the tragic part is that its going to work. They are not targeting intelligent, rational thinkers but the lunkheads of their base that might be growing a conscious.

Sheesh. Firefox has updated and changed the tab colors to white text on black without providing any obvious way to change it back. Now we have to waste time trying to undo this change, if we don’t like it. Thanks, Firefox! Also, can we get some programmers who make it easy to change text size anywhere on a browser/os just as we can change it on webpages?

Not surprising that the Alabama GOP would try this, as most right-wing rednecks in that state will gladly swallow it hook, line, and sinker. Of course this idiotic ploy will backfire on them once mainstream media gets their hands on it. I trust that the Washington Post will put a trace on those calls and sue the living daylights out of the perps.

Gee I wonder which President and which secretary of state is responsible for turning Libya into a slave state?

      • zhera

You don’t think the actual slave traders have some responsibility? Besides, it’s the EU that is working with Libya to keep immigrants out of EU.

LOL. Drumpf literally on Saturday: “People that don’t know me, they say I like to watch television – people with fake sources. You know, fake reporters, fake sources. But I don’t get to watch much television. Primarily because of documents. I’m
      reading documents. A lot.”

Sounds like a guy with a Southern accent trying to impersonate a Jewish person.

  • Tor

Didn’t Bernie Bernstein cover the Bowling Green Massacre?

  • goofy_joe

The accent was off too, sounded more Boston than NY.

  • John Calendo

    YO SOY BERNIE BERNSTEIN!
    SOMOS TODOS BERNIE BERNSTEIN!

  • Bernie Bernstein! Are we sure this wasn’t an Onion story?

  • Slim Compersion

So the right wing has gone from Fake News straight to Fake Jews.

  • trouble94114

Well, at least it wasn’t Boaty McBoatface

    • Pip

I guess they figured Jewy McJewface wouldn’t be as believed.

      • Slim Compersion

Yes, because the “Mc” part would be anomalous. “Jewy ben Jewface” is more like it.

  • JWC

  • Hata H. Zappa

Can the Post sue the Moore campaign for false impersonation if he is linked to it and proven to be the source?

  • Ore Carmi

This has been a year of learning over and over again how gross (some) people in this country are.
