LIVE VIDEO: New Roy Moore Accuser Comes Forward

TMZ reports:

U.S. Senate hopeful Roy Moore has a new sexual assault accuser who is coming forward with Gloria Allred by her side, and we’re streaming it live.

The former Alabama judge, who’s now running for Senator, was recently accused of pursuing relationships with underage girls … according to a Washington Post article. Allred says her client claims she was a minor when Moore sexually assaulted her.

Moore’s denied the previous claims, and threatened to sue the Post. We’ll see how he reacts after this accuser lays out her allegations in the news conference.

OT Breaking: Senator Menendez trial jurors officially deadlocked.

    • Judge sent them home for the day, will have them come back tomorrow to try again.

(This is normal procedure. Judge *may* try one more time after this, open to discretion if they report continuing deadlock. If it sticks, then it’s officially a mistrial.)

  • Todd20036

The deplorables will call her a whore. Either she’s lying or she “seduced” Moore.

        • ben-andy

A reason to go after young girls. They don’t have a lot of penis to compare it too. The old man says “I have a really nice penis.” and they think they now know what a “nice” penis looks like.

          Sad.

Maybe, but it’s also cognitive dissidence. She was assaulted, but those who accused Trump are merely unholy liars.

  • Buford

Per her story, Moore sexually assaulted her… but is it accurate to refer to her as a minor if she was of the age of consent at the time of the assault (16-yo)..?

It’s a serious question – what’s the legal definition of ‘minor’ as it pertains to this case. TMZ says she was a minor when Moore assaulted her, but she was 16… legally old enough to consent.

    • Gigi

She said she was 15 when Moore first approached her, but he waited until she was 16 before he assaulted her. [Edited.]

      • Buford

        I heard 16… ??

      • Gustav2

He started to groom her at 15 and took the ‘opportunity’ after she turned 16

        • thom

Hmmm. It’s almost like the assistant DA was aware of age of consent laws

          • The_Wretched

He’s also been mentioning maternal consent now and then. Parental consent to marry gets AoC down to 14.

    • Cuberly Deux

She was 15 at the time of the assault.

      • Buford

No, she said she was 16, didn’t she…?

        • Cuberly Deux

Not sure why but they showed a portrait of her when she was 16. MSNBC is reporting that she was 15 at the time.

          • Gustav2

15 when they first met and he started to flirt with her at the restaurant. Just turned 16 at the time of the incident.

          • Buford

            Agree – that’s what I heard.

          • Cuberly Deux

            Yeah, I just read that.

            It’s still flat out assault.

          • Buford

She was born in 1961 and the assault took place in Dec 1977.

    • Talisman

Typically, if the age difference is more then 3 years, the older person can be tried for statuary rape. Usually, at the discretion of the parents of the younger person.

      • Buford

Moot to my question. I’m referring specifically to whether she was legally a minor if she was at the age of consent when this happened. The age of consent is 16, and she said she was 16 when this happened… so is it accurate for TMZ to refer to her as a minor?

        • Ragnar Lothbrok

Minor & age of consent are 2 different legal terms.

          • Buford

Cool – that’s my question – can you expand on that…? What’s the legal distinction…?

          • Ragnar Lothbrok

            I think Wretched answered

          • thom

Does minor even matter if age of consent is reached?

          • Ragnar Lothbrok

I’m sure that would vary widely by state, should ” something happen “

        • The_Wretched

Depends on TMZs standards. Typical for the media is to refer to anyone under 18 as a minor. It doesn’t float with State law and history.

          • Buford

Yeah, that’s kinda what I was thinking… if she’s under 18, they call her a minor despite her being old enough to consent.

          • The_Wretched

Subtle jab at Alabama for a relatively low age of consent? You can’t vote until 18 and aren’t bindable in contract until then either.

          • thom

isn’t 16 age of consent in Most states? I don’t think it’s Unique to Alabama

          • The_Wretched

About half. the rest are above 16. 12-14 isn’t uncommon globally. Muslim/ arab areas are usually lower still but is conditioned on marriage.

It’s a weird compromise between biology and society. I’d rather higher AoC but expanding romeo/juliet exceptions to 4 years or so.

        • AmeriCanadian

I don’t believe she said she ever consented to his advances. So the age of consent becomes a moot point.

          • Buford

That’s the dumbest comment here – congrats.

This not an issue of consent. The question is actually simple – TMZ says she was a minor when Roy Moore sexually assaulted her, but she was actually old enough to consent (16) when the assault took place… so is it accurate to refer to her as a minor? If she was old enough to consent, I don’t think it’s accurate to call her a minor in the context used by the TMZ story.

          • BobSF_94117

The only issue here is that you apparently refuse to grasp what the word “minor” means and that it is unrelated to the age of consent.

          • AmeriCanadian

At least I’m too dumb to get my news from TMZ and then go to blogs to find out if what I heard on TMZ makes sense or not.

          • Buford

The point is whether TMZ deliberately misrepresented the crime here by suggesting that the woman was sexually assaulted by Moore when she was ‘underage’. I think that’s what TMZ attempted to do… and it’s not surprising because TMZ is not a valid, credible source for news.

    • Hue-Man

      wiki

In the United States as of 1995, minor is generally legally defined as a person under the age of 18. Although in the context of alcohol or gambling laws, people under the age of 21 may also sometimes be referred to as “minors”.

      • Buford

I’m still struggling with the TMZ wording – “Allred says her client claims she was a minor when Moore sexually assaulted her”.

If the definition of ‘minor’ is anyone under 18, the TMZ sentence above is meaningless. I’d suggest, instead, that the TMZ wording is deliberately suggesting that this woman was underage when Moore assaulted her, and that’s not true if she was 16 when it happened since 16 is the age of consent. That’s my issue with the TMZ story… deliberately conflating ‘minor’ with ‘underage’ in a way that’s not accurate.

        • BobSF_94117

The sentence isn’t meaningless, it’s accurate. He sexually assaulted her when she was under 18, 16 to be specific. It wasn’t “sexual assault” because she was below the age of consent, it was (allegedly) sexual assault because it was done against her will.

          • Buford

It’s nonsensical for TMZ to emphasize that the woman was ‘under 18’ when Moore sexually assaulted her when the age of consent was 16. If the victim could have legally consented to sex with Moore at age 16, why is it necessary to emphasize that she was under 18…??! Not buying it.

I think the more logical explanation is that TMZ was hoping to conflate ‘minor’ with ‘underage’ in order the make the story even more salacious than it already is.

          • BobSF_94117

It’s not nonsensical. It’s accurate. Are they doing it on purpose to be inflammatory? Probably. Welcome to modern “journalism”.

Regardless of their motive, most people think it’s pretty salacious for 30yos to sexually assault teenagers, even if the teenagers aren’t jail bait anymore.

          • Buford

Again, that makes no sense. It’s akin to writing about an alcohol-related incident by emphasizing that the subjects were under 25-yo. It might be factually accurate that the subjects are under 25, but it’s nonsensical to the story when the drinking age is 21. That ‘nonsensical vs. accurate’ distinction is one you seem to be struggling with.

I agree that the story is ‘salacious’… that’s why I called the story ‘salacious’ above.

          • BobSF_94117

What is nonsensical about it? Most Americans think it’s inappropriate for adult men to “date” minors, even if it’s not illegal in many states.

          • Buford

You’re either too stubborn or too dense for me to continue trying to explain this to you. Go re-read the explanations I’ve already posted… and go in peace.

What she is about to undergo at the hands of her own people is more punishment than I’d be willing to inflict on someone.

    • It is entirely possible to support her accusations against the pedophile Roy Moore while at the same time noting she was a fool for not opposing another man who preyed on many, many women: Donald Trump.

      • thom

Not disagreeing. But I wouldn’t come forward and make a public statement knowing that I would be discussed but thousands of people online.
So, I’m proud of her, I think she’s Brave, and I will withhold judgement of her.

    • Boreal

Lots of pearl clutching. She deserves some sympathy for being a victim who obviously learned nothing about pedophiles since she supported trump.

  • Joe in PA

So he waited till a week after she turned 16 so he could force her head on to his crotch.

Yeah, that’s some chivalrous shit right there.

    • Boreal

      Southern gentleman.

      • Phillip in L.A.

“Arch your back, child, and get that gentleman’s balls up off that cold marble floor!”

What is: the punch-line to a ‘joke’ about a ‘Southern gentleman’ father walking in on his daughter being raped.

    • Gustav2

      A Southern Gentleman!

  • Winston Statehill

Deaf person here. No captioning on this. Would someone give me the gist of what she said and what that drawing was about, please? Thank you in advance.

    • pleasebereasonable1

forced her head in crotch. Drawing – my guess – is to show how hot she was at 16?

      • Gustav2

        Pretty much.

      • Winston Statehill

        Who drew the picture?

        • pleasebereasonable1

Street artist at Disney or some such place

          • Winston Statehill

            Thank you.

        • Ragnar Lothbrok

          No idea

    • Gustav2

He groomed her for months, one cold night when her boyfriend was late he offered to take her home and parked in a dark area…groped her breasts and shoved her face in this crotch.

      • Joe in PA

AND just weeks past 16th birthday. Pig.

        • Gustav2

It’s almost like he just read the law or something.

    • The_Wretched

Drawing was in lieu of a photo of her at that age.

  • Dayglo

If they boot Roy out, the election may require a write-in candidate. Think about it β€” they’ll be asking Alabamians …. to write.

    • djcoastermark

An “X” is considered as a valid signature on a ballot in AL. The write ins should be interesting. How many xxx ratings, I mean write ins?

No. More likely, they want Alabuttholes to vote for Moore, then after he’s expelled they can pick their own lackey to be senator.

    • greenmanTN

      Talk about voter suppression!

    • SilasMarner

      LOL!!!

  • Cuberly Deux

Not sure I can handle watching this being run in a loop on cable news.

    • The yearbook citation is incredibly damning. Establishes presence…and why the fuck would Moore include his address?

(on edit, appears to be the name of the restaurant)

      • Snarky

That looks like the date he signed it, and the name of the restaurant. But he DID include that he was the D.A.

      • GayOldLady

There’s really no reason for him to sign her yearbook. He wasn’t a faculty member or a parent or a coach.

        • Reality.Bites

True. My guess is he asked and she didn’t know how to refuse.

          • pleasebereasonable1

She said she felt honored because he was a bigwig

          • Reality.Bites

Ew. I liked her more in my version.

          • It’s not uncommon for a prospective victim of a sexual predator to feel flattered at first, because they’re usually pretty good at the being all friendly and charming part.

Then they get the victim alone…and well, there it is.

Given how she describes it, it does look like Moore wasn’t above using force when thwarted, up to a point. This is a kind of new development because the WaPo reports didn’t have a physical coercion element.

What it suggests to me, at any rate, is there will be many more victims.

        • MikeBx2

And even a male faculty member or parent or coach wouldn’t have written about how beautiful she was. Very telling.

          • JCF

            Or bloody well shouldn’t!

      • Snarkaholic

    • GayOldLady

He was born in 1947, he was 30.

      • And she’d just turned 16.

        • Natty Enquirer

And the problem is that it was an assault. Not that she was a minor, because 16 is the age of consent in Alabama. And not because it is distasteful to think about. He committed a crime and that is the issue.

          • Taylor Bixler

Consent being the key word in all that.

          • Snarkaholic

            True…yet they call it “courtship.”
Courtship is dinner and a movie, NOT uninvited groping.

          • Phillip in L.A.

Tragically, in that State, and in his County, he was the sole person responsible for prosecuting such crimes.

      • Tom G

        Yes, he was 30

      • djcoastermark

          • Cuberly Deux

Yeah I didn’t see how that was an address.

          • Cuberly Deux

So was he stalking her at her job then?

          • Joe in PA

Oh yeah, if you can find it, watch her entire statement. Unbelievable.

        • Todd20036

Yech. The only adults I could see writing in a year book are maybe respected teachers or even a principal.
And Moore calls her beautiful and leaves his address.
          Nothing creepy about that!

          • Cuberly Deux

        • Phillip in L.A.

With pounding heart, I asked one of my favorite high-school teachers to sign my yearbook. She raised her fountain pen from the essay she was grading, signed her name right across the tiny, glossy portrait of herself in the “Faculty” section, and it was all over in two seconds flat!

(Incidentally, she is featured in Medved’s & Wallechinsky’s What Really Happened to the Class of ’65?).

          • JCF

    • AmeriCanadian

I don’t hate her for voting for Drumpf. I just don’t understand it…at all. I can’t fathom supporting a party that openly calls for collective oppression of oneself.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

I think it is a mix of the people around her being conservative, church being conservative and a lot of self blame/hatred. It is like a religious flavor of living in 1984, I suppose.

      • clay

She maybe hates herself for being a “weak, dirty, woman”.
Roy probably helped her get there.

        • JCF

          THIS!!!!!

    • Bambino

I don’t pretend to understand the sexual assault experience had done to her psychologically. The negative impact will manifest in some way during her entire life.

    • JCF

Hate her Drumpf vote, not the poor abused Alabamian who cast the vote. The difference is compassion.

I think a lot of the high&mighty judgment on this thread, comes from not understanding what it means to have been born female in an uneducated Alabama household in the 1960s—and THEN being molested! Don’t act like *you* [NB: I’m not speaking to you personally, S_I] would have transcended this background (to be an Always-Blue voter)—you just don’t know.

    • Boreal

They will not cede power and any threat to their majority will be resisted no matter what. We’ve already seen that with dump.

      • Reality.Bites

They’ll be happy to get rid of him – after he wins them the seat. They want him to step aside in some manner so they hope the stories will stop. If he actually loses the election, they’re fucked.

    • Sam_Handwich

“If [Moore] refuses to withdraw and wins, the Senate should vote to
expel him, because he does not meet the ethical and moral requirements

      • PickyPecker

HA! ‘Ethical and moral requirements of the United States Senat.’

    • The_Wretched

Seems like a backstop to me. They are telling the republican voters to vote for Moore anyway “since we’ll just replace him”. that way they are voting for a republican to be named later instead of a Moore vote now.

    • JCF

And you’ll “expel” the President for the same reason?

  • Snarky

Her story is incredibly damning, and personal. It’s difficult to watch her relive this awful incident. My heart goes out to her and all the other victims.

    • April

Yeah. I want to hear the facts but I’m all stressed out. Just reminds me how badly I handled my workplace sexual harassment and abuse. The abuse was bad enough but the Management where I worked sat on their hands hoping they could run me off rather than punish my abusers.

      • Snarky

I’m so sorry, and I imagine you and a lot of other people are reliving their abuse as these stories make national headlines. I know it’s good to get the abusers’ names out there, and for people to come out of the shadows if they feel it’s the right time, but lots of people must be living in misery right now, just being reminded of this shit.

At least people know they’re not alone. No matter what they do with their stories, they know that much.

    • Dale Snyder

Agreed +1000. I can’t bring myself to watch it. The scars are still there 40 years later, that poor woman.

    • AmeriCanadian

I agree. She does come across as believable and I don’t think the emotions that accompanied her recounting are easily faked.

      • Natty Enquirer

Not trying to play devil’s advocate, but there is a reason most crimes have a statute of limitations. Memory is unreliable. People can be utterly sincere, honest, and trustworthy, and still be wrong.

I have mixed feelings on this. I agree that human memory is fallible. However, with advances in DNA testing or in the light of newly found irrefutable evidence, I’m not sure that I fully agree with hard limits of statute. The problem, as I see it, is that our laws are not keeping up with technological advances.

          • Phillip in L.A.

“our laws are not keeping up with technological advances”

True. But the Common Law of England tends to be reactive, and not pro-active, from its very nature (i.e., post hoc adjustments, adjudications; even the passage of statutes!)

One must draw a line somewhere to protect against “stale claims,” fading memories, and disappearing witnesses/
evidence, and statutes of limitations are the best we currently have for that purpose.

          • AmeriCanadian

Thanks for the constructive discourse. I appreciate it.

  • Lars Littlefield

Other Side of Topic: Something that I find curious is that no women have been accused of molesting young gay girls during this big outing. Just men. I know many women whose first sexual experience was with a much older woman. I had a famous Lesbian for a roommate when I lived in SF. She took great pride in giving comfort and sexual pleasure to many young girls in those days. She really enjoyed moving on my straight female friends who showed up at the house and giving them deep passionate kisses, whether they wanted them or not. She’s still alive and continues to work on her sexual manifesto. I’ve no doubt she’s working her mojo on the 16 to 24tear old set as well.

Without having to name her, I’m sure many here at JMG have read her books.
    Hmmmmmmm ……

    • Opinion Sousaphones

I think your roommate might have difficulty if she ran for office. In a hotly contested race, opposition research would find this.

      • Lars Littlefield

I don’t know. Maybe. I don’t know if she aspires to hold office. She’s a rather popular figure in the LGBT community.

    • djcoastermark

Interesting, now that you point it out. Do any women here have any input ?

      • MaryJOGrady

I only know of one female sexual abuser, whom I once met at a conference. She was a teaching nun at the time of the offenses. In a memoir she described how discovery of her molestations brought her teaching career and life in the convent to an end, but the proper legal authorities were never informed.
In the UK and Ireland there have been legal cases brought alleging inappropriate sexual behavior by teaching nuns toward their students.

      • Phillip in L.A.

I am not a woman, but I was molested/raped by one.

        • djcoastermark

The one good thing coming out of all this recent spate of accusations and denials, is that it has opened up real dialog to address the problem, out in the open. It’s going to take a while, but real change will come of this.

          • Phillip in L.A.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see how much “real change” comes about, but I agree about getting it more out into the open!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

You know, I’m all for calling out predators, be they man or woman…what I can’t abide are whisper campaigns. If you know something to be true, speak it completely and stop playing games. This is what Christians and McCarthyists do.

      • Lars Littlefield

I’m not trying to be coy or start a whisper campaign. If that was my purpose I would out right name her. I’m seriously curious. If a woman tells me her coming out story and, is often the narrative, she met an older woman during her high school years who became her first big love it seems no one sees anything wrong with that. There seems to be a general consensus that it’s OK. But if that narrative is about two men I think it’s rather obvious that we all condemn it.

    • Ben in Oakland

The vast majority of molesters are male, something like 97%.

      • Reality.Bites

And few of those women would be in positions of power that would make their victims coming forward newsworthy.

      • Phillip in L.A.

        … and heterosexual–about 90% (from GLAAD’s statistics)

  • Opinion Sousaphones

So, why did not Trump support Moore, who is a Bannon pick?

    • Reality.Bites

Because Trump creates his own chaos. He has no need for people who create their own.

  • April

Oh, everything is fine. Back then he was a sinful “young” man but no worries. He got saved and received his official “Get out of hell free card”. Move on you anti Christian haters…

Give them a few more years. It’s just as likely as not.

  • Paula

I hope she doesn’t live in Alabama. now.

    • Tulle Christensen

She might have to leave the US for her own protection, you know how the Republican base is these days

      • Paula

Yep! They are such good x-tians.

    • Joe in PA

      She does live in AL.

      • Paula

I wish her luck or police protection.

        • Joe in PA

I dunno, they might look at her as ‘one of our own’ and be more kind.

          Nah.

  • Lazycrockett

I just wish that women would pick better representation than Gloria Allred.

    • Joe in PA

      “Better” or less sensational?

This was about as toned-down as I’ve seen Gloria.

    • Joe in PA

And BTW Lazycrockett…what’s up with the Christmas attire? Even that rush-the-season PickyPecker hasn’t adored himself with his holiday finery.

      • PickyPecker
        • Joe in PA

I knew you would have that ready. Thanksgiving is going to be a challenge…being a chicken and all. Pilgrim hat…that’s it!

        • djcoastermark

Are you getting dressed for thanksgiving ? (groan)

        • Phillip in L.A.

Hi, PP! Which part of you will be “gr[o]w[ing] three sizes that day”?

      • Lazycrockett

I figured the Grinch would be quite popular with this crowd so I figured I should lay claim quickly.

That plus a lot more what about Bill? What about JFK? What about George Takai? Weinstein!

    • Joe in PA

And damn, I had a “straight-ally” friend post some Bill Clinton whataboutism shit on FB yesterday. This is a normally VERY progressive woman…very active in Democratic politics. Dunno.

I can’t imagine how big of a risk she is taking by making this announcement.
    Good on her!

    • djcoastermark

I venture to say she won’t be getting many pot luck church social invitations in the neighborhood anytime soon.

  • Ben in Oakland

    She doesn’t look 14. I don’t believe her. /s

  • Ninja0980

Taking a big risk here, good for her!

  • kaydenpat

She looks credible to me. He’s a pedophile.

  • KarenAtFOH

Her account leaves me crying and shaken. I guess I’m being triggered over my own past abuse. Say what you want about Gloria Allred, but that poor accuser needs some of Gloria’s badass right now, and I’m glad she has her support. I was in San Diego when Allred went after Bob Filner and took him down, which he deserved.

    • Phillip in L.A.

Totally agree about Ms Allred! Although personally I tend to find her somewhat repugnant, I would rather have her on my side in a case of this ilk.

  • JCF

For the last 2 years of Rethug politics (the Age of Drumpf), I keep thinking “Well, NOW I’ve lost my ability to be shocked, appalled and disgusted.”

No, I haven’t. My disgust, my RAGE: still intact!

Reposting these two comments from last week, as they apply to this VICTIM, and her politics, also:

“Can we please set aside her voting history now, for the purposes of
HONORING her very difficult decision to come forward and tell what Moore
did to her as a child? I think we know who she voted for, only because
she was asked, and it bolsters her credibility.”

“She is minimally-educated, sexually-broken “Po’ White Trash”. Do I wish
she voted her own interests, Democratic? Of course. Do I hope she may
have her “consciousness raised”, and vote D in the future? Absolutely!
But, coming from the background she’s had to date, there is ZERO
expectation she could have transcended it, and voted “D”, to this point.
Try having some empathy, people—and then set your education, cultural
capital, and mental health 99% lower.”

What is all the fuss about? It is long past time that the GOTP of the Koch Brother’s creation be displayed for just what it is; pedophiles, rapists, liars & thieves all being Meat-Puppets for their money masters. These creeps are all criminal in their treason, obstruction of justice and contempt of constitution.
Erect the Guillotines and Gallows and let’s have a good old-fashion blood bath in Washington, District of Corruption to send a clear message that this shit ends now.
Long past time for these traitors all to be brought to justice. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a6c6baa53da58d33a48e6074635d3e2b0bc1cd79c83b651cc141a58e58ff5dda.png
